PassXPCService asks permission every day!
for the past several weeks, every time I wake the Mac Pro from sleep, log in, I get a little screen asking for admin credentials...the System asking permission to change something (what, it doesn't say).
I thought to fire up console today and around the time I logged in it says:
11/1/12 7:09:47.687 AM com.apple.PassXPCService[11366]: PAPassValidator: _signatureIsValid failed to load signature file
Anyone know what this is about? How to shut it off or otherwise resolve it? "PAPass" doesn't ring any bells for me.
Thank you!
It means some of your files are locked or have wrong permissions.
Back up all data now.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Be sure to select the whole line by triple-clicking anywhere in it. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar. A text window opens.
In the Terminal window, type this:
resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’renot going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

Default browser, But still asks permission?
On Windows 7 Every link I click on, even if firefox is already open and it only needs to open another tab, I see this message:
"Do you want to allow this program to make changes on this computer?"
Of course I want it to make changes on my computer, it is my default browser.
Anyone know, how can I tell windows to "bug-off" and let it open without asking permission every time.

How can I stop firefox from asking to update EVERY DAY?
Firefox occasionally wants to update itself. Great. Sometimes I don't want to perform the update at that moment for any number of reasons, so I tell Firefox - Ask Later.
Firefox then asks again the next day, and the next day, and every day after. That's just annoying.
If I say "ask later", then ask no less than a week later. Better yet, give me the option to tell Firefox when to ask again.Go to the Outbox and delete the mail.
The Outbox is under Local Folders. -
Why am I being asked to reset my Apple ID Password every day or 2??
Every day or 2 I am being told my password is invalid and I am receiving e-mails from Apple saying my password has been reset. It is getting rather annoying have to enter a new password every 2 days!! Any help???
Cause you entering incorrect info for login too many times. Perhaps mixup happens cause you use more then one ID and it gets hard to control which password you use for which id. Suggest come up with ONE password and next time you are prompted to do that on another account, use same password. If I am wrong, and you do not have more then one account - may be someone else is using your account or trying to login with incorrect info that they deem to be correct.

My apps keep asking to update every day.
I've been doing this for about a week and it's getting old, and I know there is something wrong. Every day I wake up, go to my computer, and all of my creative cloud apps need updating. I do it, and sure thing, the next morning same thing...
I've removed the creative cloud desktop app and reinstalled, and it still happens.
Anyone?
Thanks in advance!D-katz if you are continually being prompted to reapply updates then it is likely the file permissions under your current User account have become compromised.
Please try applying the update under your your default administrator account. Please see Log in using built in-administrator | Create local administrator account | Windows 7, Vista - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/create-local-administrator-account-windows.html for details.

What's the power of spending more time every day in your IT career ?
What's the power of spending more time every day in your IT career ?
When you do the research to find the factors of the successful people, you'll find that they ALWAYS spent a lot of time every day in their businesses.
The IT technologies change so fast and explode. The performance of IT people with 20 years experiences can be EASILY catched up by a IT people, maybe you, who has only 6 or 7 years or even less if you spend over 80 hours or even more every week on your job and on the latest technologies.
The reasons are listed below:
1. The out-of-date IT technologies is no use anymore. It's like the out-of-date IT books. The people with 20 years experience can't rely on his last experience any more.
2. If you spend 80 hours every week, you'll absorb doubled the knowledge and experience than the people who spends only 40 hours every week. You may catch up with him who has 20 years experiences with your 10 years experiences. Not only this, most of your knowledge and experiences are newer and useful than his.
3. Because you spend 80 hours, you have plenty of time to focus on your tasks. When the task comes in, you may finish your tasks many times faster than him and you may be the only person who still has the time to do any extra or urgent tasks. Because you have more time, you may prepare your next task to be ready to finish your next task even faster and you may absorb the latest IT technologies from a learner level to an expert level while other people is still doing his tasks. And due to your more spare time to learn the technologies all the time needed to do your task, you have much more knowledge needed to do your task and can finish your task much faster than others.
According to my experience, if the comparison of the knowledge the worker has is 1 to 5, the real hours needed to finish a task may be 1 to 10. In IT field, if you know how to do it, you need minutes, but if you don't know how to do it, you need months to do the error-try or starting to learn it and do it. Please notice that the knowledge can be used for many times and the 1 to 5 and 1 to 10 comparisons will repeat again and again. Without spending more time on getting more knowledge, the comparison of 1 to 10 is still happening.
4. Like trying to save the money, most of his 40 hours will be spent on his tasks. He may have only 5 hours left to learn new IT technologies. If you still need to spend the same time to finish your tasks like him, you still will have 45 hours to learn new technologies. You grow 9 times, 5 hours to 45 hours, faster than him. If you keep working and learning the new IT technologies 80 hours every week, you'll find that you'll need much less than 35 hours like him, you may have 60 or even more hours every week to do more tasks to get more experiences and to learn more latest technologies.
----- Someone asked me after read the above "You're absolutely right, but, what motivation can make people do that ?". I told him that "Don't ask me. Ask your boss" -----1) LabVIEW is a graphical based programming environment and
LabWindows/CVI is a C based programming environment. Both can be used
for similar tasks. Users familiar with C may prefer CVI. LabVIEW is
typically easier to learn if you are unfamiliar with both.
2)
The Run-Time Engine is a separate component that can be installed to
execute LabWindows/CVI programs and LabVIEW programs. It is free of
charge for both LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI.
3)
LabWindows/CVI does not convert any LabVIEW programs into C code.
LabVIEW programs are already compiled as you write them, so you won't
need to convert them to C to use them. You should see similar
performance in similar LabVIEW and CVI code.

I ask because every time I did call they could not fix the problem, as in I could not send mail, I was told it was my Internet, then they tell me it is my computer. After spending many many hours on the phone with Apple, I was told I had to reload my hard drive. Which by the way takes a lot more then a few hours. The next day I found I still had the same problem. I could not send mail... I found the problem my self// I didn't have a mail box set up to send mail. How sample that was. Then the next time if I wanted to empty trash I had to turn off the computer then reset to do so. When I called tech support she tells me that is normal and they had to do the same thing every time. Well she is wrong in that if you use "empty securely" and not the one that just says empty trash then you do not have to reset or turn off your computer.... So I ask what am I paying $245.00 for? I am sure I will need support at some time, and at least it does give me someone to talk to.

I thank you all for all the replies..
I will be buying the service plan if only for the hardware... I really can not say much about the other support, other then every time I get a female support tech she seems to not know what she is talking about and says that is the way it works... I just keep calling back until I get someone that will know a little to help fix the problem. And yes I hate to say is most likely a male tech.
I do agree apple is NOT what they started out to be... How sad!!! MADE in CHINA very SAD. And here I thought I was buying USA.......
FYI - there has not been a name brand consumer personal computer actually manufactered in the USA in years. Lenovo, Dell, HP, Acer, Apple, Samsung,... - you name it they are ALL made in China or Tiawan. Often many of those brands are being assembled by the same Chinese company in the exact same factory, pulling parts (hard drives, displays, RAM, etc) from the exact same bins. Foxconn for example, which makes iPhones and iPads for Apple, also makes dozens of other makes and models of tablets, ereaders and smart phones for other companies. Like it or not, but the consumer electronic manufactering center of the world is China.
The only consumer computers actually made in the USA these days are by local custom build companies, and it has actually been that way for many years now (I think twinhead may have been one of the last with a plant in the USA - they are still around, now GammaTech, and they still do their "final assembly" in the USA but most of thier manufacturing is done in Tiawan and Malaysia).
By and large, the USA has been out of the actual consumer electronics manufacturing/assembly business for a decade or so now. -
How do i get my mbp to quit asking permission to do everything
since restarting my computer after months of being on, I noticed most when i open a safari page from the desktop it asks permission, to open where as before it would just open, the computer is suddenly asking permission for every little tasks, works fine, but annoying????
When that occurs, press COMMAND , (comma) which will give you the Preferences for that application. Modify same to suit your needs.

HT201270 Why do I get a message about updating carrier settings on my iPad every day?
I get this message every day. How can it need to update the settings every single day? It is weird. Ive been getting this for 2 weeks now.

Thanks.
Well I've been on to Apple Support again and they say that since I did a factory restore I'd have a virgin copy of the iOS so it can't be a problem with that. I asked about there being a bug in the iOS but he wouldn't hear of this - no one else seems to have complained to Apple about this but I did mention this Discussion Group. All he could suggest is that I try another computer, to do a factory restore again there and then come back to the Mac!
I do have a WIndows XP virtual machine and am trying that just now, to see if this gets rid of the problem, and I'll report back. However it's not everyone that would have the facility to go down this route! -

The following article may help you to make decision:

My experiences: there are many computer equipments have been running 10 or even 20 years continuously and now no one is willing to turn them off because they may never turn on again. Just ask someone who has few FEP's (Front End Processor) running now.

What is the fix for some applications repeatedly asking permission to accept incoming connections?
On every restart, AutoPairs and Epson Event Manager asks me to reject or agree to allow incoming connections. It is very aggravating and time-wasting. I know other Mac users who have the identical problem with other applications on their Macs.
Isn't there some way to make my Mac understand that "Yes" means "Yes" once and for all?
I am presently running Yosemite, but this was a problem with prior OS X versions too.
Respectfully,
NateThis is a comment on why you might, or might not, want to use the built-in Application Firewall.
The firewall blocks incoming network traffic, regardless of origin, on a per-application basis. By default it's off, and when turned on, it allows applications digitally signed by Apple, and only those applications, to listen on the network. It does not block outgoing traffic, nor can it distinguish between different sources of incoming traffic, nor does it filter traffic by content.
No matter how it's configured, the firewall is not, as some imagine, a malware filter. If that's what you expect it to do, forget it. All it will do is bombard you with pointless alerts.
Consider some scenarios in which you may expect the firewall to be useful.
1. You enable file sharing, and you allow guest access to certain folders. That means you want people on your local network, but not outsiders, to be able to access those shared folders without having to enter a password. In the default configuration, the firewall will allow that to happen. The router prevents outsiders from accessing the shares, whether the application firewall is on or off. But if your computer is portable and you connect it to an untrusted network such as a public hotspot, the firewall will still allow access to anyone, which is not what you want. It does not protect you in this scenario.
2. You unknowingly install a trojan that steals your data and uploads it to a remote server. The firewall, no matter how it's configured, will not block that outgoing traffic. It does nothing to protect you from that threat.
3. A more likely scenario: The web browser or the router is compromised by an attacker. The attack redirects all web traffic to a bogus server. The firewall does not protect you from this threat.
4. You're running a public web server. Your router forwards TCP connection requests on port 80 to your Mac, and the connections are accepted by the built-in web server, which is codesigned by Apple. The application firewall, still configured as above, allows this to happen. An attacker hacks into the system and tries to hijack port 80 and replace the built-in web server with one that he controls. The good news here is that the firewall does protect you; it blocks incoming connections to the malicious server and alerts you. But the bad news is that you've been rooted. The attacker who can do all this can just as easily turn off the firewall, in which case it doesn't protect you after all.
5. You're running a Minecraft server on the local network. It listens on a high-numbered port. You, as administrator, have reconfigured the firewall to pass this traffic. An attacker is able to log in to a standard account on the server. He figures out how to crash Minecraft, or he just waits for you to quit it, and then he binds his own, malicious, Minecraft server to the same port. The firewall blocks his server, and because he's not an administrator, he can't do anything about it. In this scenario, the security is genuine.
6. Here is a more realistic scenario in which you might have reason to enable the firewall. Your MacBook has sharing services enabled. You want those services to be available to others on a home or office network. When you're on those networks, the firewall should be off. When you move to an untrusted network, you can either turn off all the services, or enable the firewall with a non-default configuration to block them. Blocking is easier: one click instead of several. -
is it bad to use tc as a every day hard drive i use a 750 gb g drive for time machine an was jus wanting to kno if it was bad to do or is it jus like using any other hard drive
I'm not sure how to interpret your question. By "TC" do you mean "Time Capsule"? Do you have a Time Capsule? How is the 750 GB drive connected to the rest of your system? Are you asking if you can use for other things a volume that Time Machine is using for its backups? If so, that's not a good idea. For one thing, Time Machine by design will eventually consume all the space on that volume, which will cause problems for anything else you have on it. For another thing, Time Machine won't be backing up those files on the Time Machine disk, which means you'll only have one copy of them.

Safari quits unexpectedly after 10 minutes just once every day?
Hi everyone,
Basically the question says it all. Every day without fail i'll open my Macbook and go onto safari, after 10 minutes or so of doing anything safari will just quit resulting in me losing whatever I was doing. After re-opening it's fine for the rest of the day/night and just does the exact thing every day?
Any suggestions? It doesn't happen with any other browsers but Safari is my favourite so I don't particularly want to stop using it.
