Past events are deleted

Hi,
I noticed that my past events are suddenly not showing up in iCal. Actually, this is true only of the calendars I've created myself, not the ones I subscribe to. Could I accidentally have changed some preference? I tried quitting iCal, changing the date to a week ago, then reopening iCal, and the events of last week still didn't show up. Ideally I would like to retrieve those past events, but at the very least I'd like to figure out how to stop this from happening so I don't lose any more. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Cari

Welcome to the discussions, Cari.
Look in Preferences/Advanced and see what setting you have for "Delete events n days after they have passed"

  • Past calender events are deleted on backup & restore

I have the storm set to never delete, however on backup all past calender entries are deleted.  Immediate restore does not restore these items. I print out the deletions and additions at confirm stage
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks nicky berry

I hate to say it, but it sounds like you may have some corrupt data in the calendar application. Unfortunately if this is the case and the data has somehow been deleted, there is no way to bring this back.

  • Past events are being altered automatically

For some reason my calendar has started to delete the contents of some past events.  All events are in one iCloud calendar.  I can't work out whether they were created on the iPad, iPhone or iMac in terms of synching. I need these to research comments made at the time in the notes fields and it's deleting the entire contents other than times and dates and comes up as "new event".  Does anyone know why this is happening or how I can find out which device has the problem?

You have this - go to settings > mail, contacts, and calendars > scroll down to 'calendars' section > where it says 'sync' it probably says 'events 1 month back'
select that bar, then change how far back you sync calendar data. It's not deleting your info, it's just not syncing it to your phone

  • Syncing calendars ( Past events being deleted)

When i sync my iphone it deletes the previous appointments on that day. i end up with a blank calendar on my computer but the entries remain on the Iphone. Any suggestions?

Found the issue for me. The events are not deleted, but filtered in the standard calendar view. The iPhone shows everything as it should. Outlook 2003 has all the events to as seen when going to categories view.
It seems that once events pass on the iPhone and then a sync via iTunes to Outlook 2003 the "All Day Event" field is removed from the calendar entry.
Creating another Day/Week/Month View in outlook 2003 that has a filter to only include calendar entries where the "All Day Event" field "does not exist" will allow viewing the "hidden" past events.
Hopefully this will be fixed VERY SOON.

  • IPhone calendar alerts continue after calendar events are deleted

I had several recurring events in iCal on my iPhone which finally came to an end.  I deleted the events, but the alerts continue.  Every day I am receiving alerts for events which are no long occurring.  How can I delete these alerts.
I am using an iPhone 6 (iOS 8.1.2), but these events were created last year when I was still using an iPhone 4.  I sync my phone to a MacBook Pro (OS 10.7.5) over iCloud.

Just to add to Doug's post...
I'm on the same system - syncing between my iPhone (4) and iCal on my Mac via MobileMe.  Never had any problems when I was phone iPhone 3, and not sure when I started getting this problem with my iPhone 4 (may have been when upgrading to new MobileMe calendar), but I am not getting pop-up alerts which I have set up in iCal on my iPhone.  They do pop up on my Mac desktop, but not on the iPhone.  The thing is, when I go into Calendar on my iPhone, all the events that I created in iCal are there to be seen in Calendar on the iPhone, and when I select one of those events, all the correct information (including the alerts) are there to be seen.
So the information all appears to be correctly in the iPhone ... and hence I would not have thought it could be a syncing issue.
But come the time for that alert to pop-up on my phone and it just doesn't do it.
I have checked other issues mentioned, like the time zone.
... I've just applied the fix suggested by diana1953 (but in my case applying MobileMe where she has referred to Google Calendar / Gmail) and it seems to have worked on the test event I set.  Thanks.

  • Suddenly my calendar events are deleted from 2 months ago and all before that.  I like to keep that information.  How is that done?

How can I stop my I pad calendar from deleting events in the past, like all of them from 2 months ago and earlier?
    Thanks.

When you connect your iPad to your computer, open iTunes, click on the name of your ipad and then on the info tab. In there you'll see the options for the calendar, one of which is how far back to keep info. Set it as far back as you want. Just know that calendar data is part of what makes up the 'other' part of your memory consumption. So more data like that you keep, less room you will have for other stuff.

  • My iCal runs very slowly. Is there a way to delete past events quickly without having to delete each event individually?

Ever since my new Mac OS update, my calendar runs very slowly, sometimes freezing. What shall I do? Could it be that past events are slowing it down? If so, how can I remove them easily without having to scroll through everything and press delete?

What settings have you in Preferences/Advanced delete events after they have passed?

  • Can you add a past event Into iCal?  I want to do this for record keeping.

I want to add past events to my icalendar for record keeping. When I try it disappears right after I add.  Can I do this?

You don't mention your OS or iCal versions but, based on my own OSX.6.8 and iCal v4.0.4 (1395.7) then go to ...
    iCal > Preferences > Advanced
... and look at the Option for Delete events n days after they have passed and ensure that either the option is not checked (which should keep past events for ever) or set to the number of days after which you are happy that past events get deleted.
Other parameters can also be set for the treatment of To Do items within that same preference panel.
I guess, although I do not know, that other versions of iCal and Calendar have similar options somewhere within user customisation.

  • How do I restore past events to my iPad calendar?

I use the calendar on my IPad a lot, but when I went to look at an event from 6 weeks ago, I realized all my events except the recurring events from more than 30 days ago were missing.  I found online that I should change my "sync" under settings->calendars to something more than 'the last month', which I did.  I changed it first to 'all events', waited about 30 minutes, and when my past events still didn't show up I tried again with '6 months'.  Still none of my past events are showing.  I don't use calendars on any other devices (Mac or phone).  Any other suggestions on how to restore my events?
    Thanks!

Are all your past events present when you sign in to iCloud.com  with a web browser on your computer?
    If so, try this:
Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > In the Calendars section tap Sync > All Events
    Then
Settings > iCloud > toggle off Calendars, delete from phone. Wait for it to finish then turn it back on

  • Ical deleted all my past events

I am using iMac, iPhone4s, iPad, iPod - yesterday, all of my past events on iCal, across all devices, were deleted. I am not currently using Time Machine on my iMac, and I need to get these events back - I use them at the end of each month for billing purposes. I did not alter my syncing options on any device or on iCloud -- the events have been there since I started using iCloud, now suddenly, they are all gone (everything prior to yesterday's date). Any help in recovering these items would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time!

About your only option would be to try to recover it from your iCloud backup.  There's a user tip here on how to recover contacts from an iCloud backup: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4841.  Just substitute calendar for contacts and the process would be the same.  The key for this being successful is to disconnect your router from the internet (step 4), allowing you to turn off calendar syncing with iCloud and keep the calendar on your iPhone before it is overwritten by the iCloud calendar.
If you have any other calendars on your Mac be sure to back them up before trying this using File>Export>Export.

  • I used to be able to add an event in the past on iCal, but can't now. The event immediately deletes itself. Is anyone else having this problem?

I use my calendar to keep track of things and sometimes I like to add past events so they are on my calendar. Starting today, iCal hasn't been letting me do that and it's very frustrating!

Hi!  I was having the same problem too- was entering an event from 2 months ago but it would then disappear.   I tried entering several events, some of them multiple times but they kept disappearing.   Finally figured it out though:  go to Settings: Mail, Contacts, Calendar.  Scroll to calendar, then You have the option of adjusting the sync time of your calendar.  Mine was set to "1 Month" so everything older than that was disappearing.   I changed it to "6 Months" and when I returned to the calendar all events I previously entered that had seemingly disappeared, magically reappeared!  Even in the multiple forms I had entered them so I deleted the duplicates!  Good Luck!

  • Why are events being deleted in my history (prior months) on iCal?

After downloading iCloud, I've noticed that any even scheduled in prior months has been deleted.  I like to keep this info for reference points in my business.  Can someone please give me advice on how to keep all past events on my Ipad / iCal?  And how can I restore these past events onto my iPad's iCal?  They are still showing up on the iCal on my iMac, which is really confusing!  Thank you!!!!

sorry, "I've noticed that all the event scheduled in prior months have been deleted"....

  • Why does ical delete my past events when all settings indicate that it should not?

All of the boxes, about deleting past events, in ical preferences are unchecked, so I can't figure out why ical deletes my past events.  Could it be because of a setting on either my iphone or ipad causing this to happen?

I had the same problem a few weeks ago and called apple support.  The solution is as follows:
Most apple users have multiple devices using icloud such as an iPdad, iPhone, and other computers.  In my case, I had two computers, two iPads, and one iPhone.   After speaking to apple support, I realized that one of my ipad's setting were set to delete events older then 2 weeks.   In short, if you are expeirienceing problems with ical deleteing events, you better check all your devices.  If just one of them is set wrong in your preferences, you will lose past events.   Even check computers you gave to your cildren or other members of the family.  You will probably find out that the settings on one of these machines is causing your problems.

I have accidentally deleted all past events from shared iCloud calendars when removing from one mac. How can I get them back?

Why would you be surprised?  You were syncing your Notes with iCloud or a Mail Account.  Synchronization means when you make a change on one device, it affects all other devices that are synched for the same purpose.  Like when you delete an email (usually) it also disappears from your other devices as well.
