Paste Attributes TO clips in the Browser?

With my underwater footage, often a Color Corrector filter worked out for one clip would be usefully applied to a group of clips shot under the same conditions.
I've been able to copy clips (from Timeline or Browser) with filters applied and then Edit>Paste-Attribute the filters to clips in the Timeline. But I don't get the Paste-Attribute menu box when I select a clip in the Browser that I'd like to paste the filter to. Both the User Manual and The (3.5) Book suggest that this is possible.
It would be a lot more convenient to apply a refined Color Corrector in the Browser and be able to check the result without rendering.
Hope that as usual I have missed some dumb detail. Please tell me how to do it right, somebody - Forum Search wasn't helpful.

It worked! (after I figured out to use the little drag hand icon and not the tab...) I know it would be better to get color properly with the camcorder in the first place, but U/W lighting is an art I am still working on.

BTW if I apply a stored color corrector to a clip in the Viewer and then tweak it, that won't change the filter parameters on the filter saved in the browser or on any of the other clips that had that filter applied, will it? All the clips are master clips...

Scaling Multiple Clips In The Browser?

I have hundreds of clips in the browser that need to be pre-scaled down (all the same) to be efficiently edited into a multi-video track sequence. That is, set their scale as part of the clip in the browser befor adding to the timeline.
Anyone know a way to do it to all the clips at once?

In the FCP Browser, click on the source clip that is showing up sized incorrectly to select it. Once it is selected, type Command + 9 to see the item properties for the clip. Either report those properties here, or take a screen shot of the item properties and post the screen shot here.
Next, click anywhere in your sequence timeline and then type Command + 0 {zero} to see your sequence settings. Either report those settings or take a screen shot of the sequence settings and post that screen shot here.

I have one specific library that when I select the "view all clips" in the browser drop down box, FCPX locks up. Rebuild the library? What would be the best method?

Yes, Force quit is the only option. No background tasks running, nothing on FCPX works, save I can move the beach ball around.
All the other menu options work fine. In fact, FCPX works in the library except when I select view all clips in the browser.
I am running Version 10.1.3 . It is only this library that has the problem. I am a new user so I only have three or four libraries so far. Most on the same local external drive.
The only difference I have been able to determine is the library in question has files on my boot drive as well as the local external. Could that be the issue?

Select one and click cmd-A which selects them all.
Then click the import button if it hasn't started already.

Losing the audio track when moving a clip from the browser to the timeline

Today we were trying to add two clips from the browser in Final Cut Express HD to the timeline that was created yesterday. The problem is, the clips we were adding today are not moving with the audio tracks. All other clips from when we created the movie are fine but the two we added today have no sound. The audio works when viewing the clip in "viewer" but not once it is moved to the timeline. Any thoughts?

Look at the left side of the time line, there is a device (the patch panel) to set the current video and audio target tracks. (little V1 and a1 a2 icons). Swith them to desired tracks to select the target audio tracks (that's where the video and audio-or just one of them-will be inserted in timeline upon editing). There is also a contextual menu (control click) with reset panel command.

When I copy something in Mozilla Browser, if I close the browser, I cannot paste it in another place (the browser forget if it is closed). This is not heppening in Internet Explorer.

When I want to paste that information on any other place (in a document, in chat, in messenger etc.) there is nothing to paste.
The browser forgets the information copied if it is closed. If it's not closed, he doesn't forget.
This is happening on any PC, desktop, laptop and it doesn't matter if it is on vista, windows xp etc.
This problem doesn't exist on Internet Explorer.
Can you tell me if I have a way to change this problem ? To choose whether i want to be that way or not.

I know this, but i was wondering if there is a way, a setting which will make Mozilla to not forget the inofromation copied after it is closed.
Internet Explorer doesn't clear the information copied on clipboard after it is closed. And you don't have to make a setting for this. He just remember it.

Trouble importing clip in the browser

Hi,
I am facing a new problem with my FCP 5. When I capture about 2 hours of video, in the browser it shows only 5 mins. duration of the clip however when I look inthe Hard Drive where it is captured I can see the complete 2 hour video. When I import or open the same video in browser, again it shows only 5 Mins.
How do I import the complete video?

OK .. that IS weird. No INs or OUTs set on the clip, and its full length when played in QT. Try this; import the captured QT file (File->Import) and see if it shows full length in FCP. If it does, I' try trashing FCP's preferences.

FCPX: Is there a way to show which clips in the browser exist in the currently open project?

I have many clips (1000+) in my event for a travel/destinations style video. I edit many of these on a regular basis, and I am finding it very difficult to keep track of which clips I have already used in my project timeline. Is there a way to set the project browser to display or filter unused clips? Or am I able to set up a smart collection to achieve a similar effect?

First off Tom, Wow. You are the best. Many thanks. Maybe I need to find a new tread for this but here goes. I'm scared to upgrade!!!! Sitting here with 3 external hard drives all with footage that I will use or have used all ready for parts of my final video. Reading about upgrades and libraries is frightening. Could I get get myself in trouble trying to upgrade midstream? Other thread I should be swithing over to?

Is it possible to see the titles of clips in the browser?

Often I give movies I import into iMovie a name or title. However, I can't find a way of making these titles visible in the program window, either in the clips area or the project itself. As I'm often using clips that are visually similar, seeing the title of the imported file would be a help.
Is this possible?

I have this problem also. I had to convert 192 files so that iMovie could import them, now they all have the same date. I named them after the original date they were taken, but there is no way to view this date once they are in iMovie, or to sort by the file name. VERY frustrating

However now I copy the clip I want o use the attributes from - then I selct PASTE ATTRIBUTES. In the past a new dialogue box would appear and offer me the opportunity to select the attributes or effects I wanted to COPY and PASTE. Hoever now - there is NOTHING.
I also want to REMOVE the ATTRIBUTES from 287 clips - but apparently I can only do this one at a time? That seems like the most ridiculous thing in the world. Certainly this can't be true? Is there no way to remove ALL Attrributes from all of the clips at the same time?
Anyone? Anyone?

I cannot reproduce this. It is working as expected here: select a clip, copy, select another clip (or clips), paste attributes, and I get the usual window - this works for audio only clips as well as other clips.
I suggest you try deleting FCP X preferences with Preference Manager and try again.

Select the clips you want, and delete the effects in the Inspector by selecting and hitting the delete key.

Rotate Multiple Clips in the Event Browser (help)!

I make no apology for posting this a second time - there were no replies to my first post and if you've ever contemplated rotating something like 400 clips by opening them one by one in the Timeline and then adjusting the Rotate parameter in the Inspector, you'll know how I feel.
I want the correction to be on the clips in the Browser, because there's a lot of waste footage and it's so hard to trawl through it upside down. Rotating in the Storyline is dead easy but it doesn't affect the Browser clips - and that's what I need.
I'm sure I read you could do this - and I'm sure I tried it, and it worked - but I can't get it to work again.
I'm convinced the Browser Thumbnails turned the right way up - but I may be hallucinating.
I know it involved opening one clip in the timeline and either adding the 'Flipped' effect or changing the Rotation in the Inspector. I then (somehow) applied that change to the rest of the clips in the Event Browser.
Already tried copying and then Cmd+Alt+V, on all the selected clips in the Browser, but no joy. I also tried adding the rest of the Browser Clips to the same Timeline (which then magically becomes a Storyline) and Copying and Pasting there - but that doesn't affect the Browser Clips.
(Maybe it's my age).

OK - so here's how I did it in the end . . .
Copy a rotated clip in the timeline.
Right-click a clip in the Browser.
Choose 'Open in Timeline'
Press Cmd+2 to select the timeline.
Press ' i ' to select the clip in the timeline.
Press Alt+Cmd+v to Paste the Effects.
I got a stiff neck doing it - SURELY there's a proper way to do it?

Why clip speed and pitch changes when I drag it from the browser to the timeline ?

In fcpx when I play the clip in the browser it is fine but when I drag and play the same clip in the time line the audio and video clip speed plays slow....and I can hear that weird wobble sound .....why is this happening.....? Kindly help.

1)I have already done that but in that timeline also with 25 fps specified the clips are playing slow ,leave aside the hay wire going clips....
2) when I extract exactly 2 seconds of clip from the browser, almost 48 frames ...the extracted clip in the timeline shows two or three extra frames ...that is may be because of the handles ?or some other issue
3)but when I make a new project/timeline with 25 frames ....and then add clips it works fine....
definately issue is with the framerate but I will have to begin from scratch of 300 files ...so do you think this already made and copy pasted sequence should work fine in the new timeline as you said ....as it is not working....and secondly does quality of video suffer if you bring it down from 25 to 23 frames in that case I will work all over again.......just waiting for your reply ...thank you.

Paste attributes prompt box (only 1st linked video & audio clip)

what is up with that box? how can I avoid this? I need to paste attributes to all 4 audio tracks and not just the 1st one!
The box reads:
Paste Attributes will only use the first video and first linked audio clip for parameters and content to be pasted. Do you wish to continue?

You'll get that warning if you copied more than one clip. The message is telling you that it will only paste the attributes of the first clip of the group you selected.
To avoid that warning, you should only copy ONE clip. After you've copied one clip you can then past the attributes of that clip to as many clips as you select.

Can you find out if a clip has been used in a timeline within the browser?

i am using hundreds of clips and i don't want to use one twice - or leave one out. years ago in premiere they let you see USED CLIPS and it showed you how many times it was used and where it was within a timeline. does that feature - or something like it exist in FC?

Yep, that'll show dupe clip usage in the timeline, but to see used clips in the browser you have to specifically search for them. With the browser window active, press Cmd-F to bring up the Find window, and change the For: popup to Used Media (or Unused Media) as desired; you can limit the search to specific sequences and/or filter the search by adding multiple specific search criteria ... finally just press the Find All button.
