Paste in Place = differing results

Hi,
Could someone explain to me why (usually when pasting on a different layer) Paste in Place sometimes pastes the objects in the far top left of the document instead of where you'd expect ie...
in place?

I just had exactly the same problem... but slightly different: when I "paste in front" my object on a different artboard (same size as the other one) my object appears on the far bottom right (apparently just the opposite of you)... It's really annoying as I'm using that function quite often.
Strangely if I use "paste in place" it works fine... is it the same for you? I mean have you tried other "paste" functions?
I suppose it is a bug but I even after restarting Illustrator it stays the same.

I get different result when I paste with mouse and shift+ins

Sometimes I get different result when I paste the clipboard content with mouse and shift+insert key combination. Why? What can I do to stop this annoyance?

Just to add a little to the above, there really is no universally applied standard (not even close) for how the primary, secondary, and clipboard buffers should be used. Any X program can use them however they wish. But there are some common patterns: selected text should be placed in the primary buffer, and X pastes from the primary buffer with either middle click or shift-ins by default.
This default can (and unfortunately often is) overriden by clipboard managers - I don't know why they don't stay true to their name and just manage the clipboard buffer, but they often don't.
<mini rant>with no clipboard tools installed, selected text in any program I have is in the primary selection, and shift+ins or middle click paste from this primary selection. Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V post to/from the clipboard buffer. No need for extra tools. If I install any clipboard manager, this default sanity of X11 goes strait to s(&*Y. I don't like clipboard managers </mini rant> <mini praise> X11 is great without any of that cruft added </mini praise>

Matlab 'place' command gives different result in Mathscript/Labview

Hello,
I am trying to implement a order reduced observer in Labview. First I used Labview blocks for programming but it happens that I get different results when I am using Matlab. For that reason I used Mathscript to make a simple 'place' command to check it. The result in Labview and Mathscript is the same, but not in Matlab...
This is the instruction in Matlab:

Indeed there are a lot of gains that places the poles on the desired locations. BUT, seeing as the Varga's SEAP algorithm is implemented, the G matrix is selected through a uniform white noise generator and the desired characteristics are verified (controllability). This does not unsure optimization regarding stability margins or disturbance rejection (sensitivity minimization regarding perturbations an matrix A or B).
As an example, the system presented in this thread, the algorithm implemented in CD Pole Placement.vi computes an observer gain that determine a 7,4455 value for closed loop infinity norm. The place algorithm in Matlab computes an observer gain that determine a 2,8230 value for closed loop infinity norm, so better noise rejection or robustness.

Paste in Place in Photoshop CS6 is not working, am I missing something?

I've been using the Creative Suite since CS4, but still count myself as a beginner.
I'm building a psd file with vectors from an ai file. I recall that in CS5 and CS5.5 I had no issue copying a vector from Illustrator and then using "paste in place" to land it in the same relative spot on the Photoshop canvas. Today, my world has crumbled! Try as I might, I cannot get my vector shapes to "paste in place".
I am using Windows 7, service pack 1, and CS6 64 bit edition. Both Illustrator and Photoshop were entirely up to date as of today, and I'm in the midst of doing a reinstall, just in case that helps anything. I have already tried dumping the preference file, to no avail.
Having taken a look through the forums, it seems that Illustrator's clipboard has been handling data differently somehow, and I'm pondering whether this might be the culprit of my issue. However, copying and pasting in place within Illustrator seems to work fine, problems only arise when I copy from Illustrator into Photoshop.
I feel that I am likely missing something easy to overlook, and I would greatly appreciate some help.

I asked a friend about this issue, and he says that functionality was never there. Is that true? Perhaps it should be, it would be extremely useful. Even though I thought I recalled having done this in the past, I guess I must be mistaken.

Illustrator has a different origin behavior. There is a global origin and a per artbord origin. you need to fix the problem in AI.

Same Effects Panel parameters-different results on Tiff & Psd file format?

Just a quick question to all the users and the Adobe Lightroom team & see if anybody has the same problem.
I have one file saved in a Tiff format & the exact duplicate saved in a PSD, however when I sync the Effects Panel settings between the two, I get different results. The difference isn't black & white but clearly visible. The grain in the PSD file is less coarse & pronounced and the post crop vignetting is much more subtle. The color balance is also different. In other words every adjustments seems to be more subtle & less pronounced on a PSD file compare to a Tiff file.
Not the end of the world but clearly something to keep in mind when syncing settings between the two formats and something that shouldn't be there in the first place.

It sounds very much like 11 is exporting 25p/30p which is why you see non smooth motion.
25p/30p is the result of deinterlacing 50i/60i. When you take two FIELDS that are 1/50th or 1/60th apart and create 1 image, these images will be 1/25th or 1/30th second apart.
You can create 1 frame through several methods.
With iM09 deinterlacing occured only if you imported as LARGE, OPTIMIZED video, or used a function or FX that scales video. Perhaps with 11, Apple has decided that its time to FORCE any kind of interlaced video to be deinterlaced.
In other words, LARGE and FULL only relate to size.
One possible advantage is that Apple has finally decided to deinterlace using BLEND during import. This would look better, but it creates 25p or 30p video.
They may hinting its time to buy a progressive camera.

Select statement returns different results from 9i and 10g

I have the exact the statements running on Oracle 9i and 10g, why do they return different results?
Select unique(GroupDesc) , GroupSeq from Module where ModuleId in (Select ModuleId from User_Access where UserId='admin') and Status='A'
In Oracle 9i:
Both columns returned as follows...
GroupDesc | GroupSeq
In Oracle 10g:
Only one column returned, the column with unique keyword was missing...

yes, the table structure... actually the CREATE TABLE statement...
with some sample data (INSERT INTO)
and the actual queries (both of them - copy-paste them from each separate environment)
you can use tags around the statements this will format it to a fixed font - making it easier to read

Java - Platform Independent, so why different results?

This isn't a code specific topic, but I hope someone can still help me out with this. I've been developing a bit of code for a Java class that I'm taking, working in a small group with a few friends. I spend an entire weekend pounding out a GUI for this project, and upon completion, test it thoroughly and agressively, absolutely TRYING to get it to crash. Once I'm satisified it's got more safety features than a Volvo, I pass it along to my friend and ask him to play with it a little and see what happens.
Well, suffice to say he gets COMPLETELY different results. The layout of the GUI is the same, but on his side, when the code executes to remove a JLabel, it removes a couple of others with it. Upon staring at my code for hours, doing handwritten walk-throughs of the code itself, and doing more staring at the code, I can't understand for the life of me what's causing this. On my side, the one JLabel disappears just fine, reappears when the code is executed to restore it. On his side, multiple JLabels disappear, and refuse to reappear.
I've tried changing it from setting them to disappear to setting them to setText("") and turn white. The same thing happens... multiple JLabels turn white and remove their text.
The only common denominator I can get out of this is that his machines (he's tested more than one) are all multi-core systems (dual core or quad core), where mine is single core. Even then, I see nothing in the code that even if it were threaded should cause this to happen. The functions are extremely specific. Still, I'll confess to not knowing a THING about threading, could this have something to do with it? I can post some code if that would help, but there's quite a bit of it...

I don't currently have my code available, but I've got a pseudocode outline of what's supposed to be happening, if that will help any... if not, sorry for just cluttering things up... >_>
In response to the JLabel array quesiton, I have an X x Y sized grid made of JLabels, dynamically drawn based on user input (how many rows and how many columns they want). While those are in an array, they're not involved in this part of the process...
The way this works is the project is a simulation of an assembly line on a shop floor. There are four types of mahcines, called BodyAttacher, Painter, InteriorAssembler, Wrapper, and Conveyor. There can only be one BodyAttacher, Painter, InteriorAssember, and Painter. Conveyors are essentially unlimited. There is a JLabel for each of these machines labeled with the name of that machine. Each one is setText to their class name. To ensure the user can ONLY place one of the first four machines, the code below kicks in. For simplicity's sake, I've included only the mouselistener for the BodyAttacher and the function that it calls, because they all do the same thing (except for a different instance of a machine).
The method that happens when the user does this goes like this:

How do you "Paste In Place" in javascript?

I'm seeing a problem when running copy merged and then paste from script. If there is no alpha component in the mask, it looks like photoshop internally crops the layer to useful content. Then when you paste, it pastes only the useful content meaning meanin it's translated so pixels at the top and left have content. This is really stupid default behavior. However, the UI has a way to work around this, you run Edit | Paste In Place and it keeps the translation component it figured out when running copy merged. Great.
Unfortunately since I'm working from script I don't see a way of running Paste In Place as it is not in the commands exposed on Document. I tried looking at the javascript recording and there appears to be nothing output for that specific command. Argh! Does anyone know if photoshop has a way to script this?
Otherwise, I'm gonna have to look at a completely different way of recording out this stuff.

Before copying the merged layer to the clipboard try getting the layers bounds to get size and location.

Returning Different Results Based on Input Criteria

I have a complex nested select statement. Based on selection criteria I want to return different results. Say for instance I had an input parameter Called Products which could contain a Yes/No Flag. If the Flag was Yes then I would want the "top" select, statement to be The following:
Select Product, Time_ID, Amt
From
My Complex Nested Select
But if Product was set to "No", I would want the following:
Select Time_ID, Amt
From
My Complex Nested Select
I know, or course that I can have two COMPLETE set of SQL which are invoked based upon testing the value of the PRODUCT Parameter, but If I duplicate the "inner nested select" then I have 2 sets of select staments to maintain. Is there an alternative to this? Could I make the inner portion which does not change a function of some sort so that my code would look something like this?
Select Product, Time_ID, Amt
From
Execute myNestedSelectFunction
But if Product was set to "No", I would want the following:
Select Time_ID, Amt
From
Execute myNestedSelectFunction
This would atleast ensure that I only have to go one place to maintain the logic of the "static Nested Select" statement.
Just want to make sure I do not have a real viable alternative to "duplicating code"

Different results from MAX and Labview

Hi all,
We did an impact testing a couple of days ago, and I got very big acceleration (the peak is about 300g, which is much larger than the estimated value).
And then I tried a small imact test in the lab using a steel plate which is less than 1 lb to impact a steel ruler, I still got big peak number (more than 200g, which is impossible). And then I tried the small impact test again by using MAX, the peak number is about 12g, and the curve seems like pretty reasonable. I was wondering why I got different results by using MAX and Labview?
Also, sometimes when I connect the SCXI-1001 to the computer, it says the USB is malfuntion and cannot be recgonized by the computer, and turns out the driver file does not exists. But most of the time, it works very well and the driver file does exists. Why this happened?

You can do that. A task can only have the same types of inputs, meaning Analog Input, Analog Output, Digital Input, Digital Output, etc. Different sensors are just read with Analog Inputs. So they all can be in the same task. In MAX, just set up a task a configure each channel as it should be. Then use that single task in your LabVIEW code.

I used just the character
^
This is defined as anchor character for the start of a line (See the documentation link you posted -> chapter 'Special characters for search strings') .
As I understand it, should the FIND REGEX statement does the same as the CL_ABAP_REGEX and CL_ABAP_MATCHER classes. Therefore, I do not understand, why both implementations deliver another result.
And I didn't find an answer for that. Does anyone else?

Is it possible to only select visible layers to copy/paste in place.

I must be missing something. In Adobe Illustrator, when you select a layer (or sub-layer) to copy, is it possible to only copy the visible layers and not the hidden ones?
When I supply my clients with their final illustrator files, I only want to include the approved art work. Currently I make a copy of the file and go through and delete the hidden files, it would be much easier to just copy and paste in place the visible layers into a new Adobe illustrator file .

Here's an example of why, I may have 3 heads on a character. Since the character is copy and pasted into different boards, and scenes I build them once (think modular illustration). I need to be able to copy and paste, the talking head and not the Neutral or thoughtful heads. That is the overall goal of the post.

Does Acrobat XI paste-in-place?

It's been a long standing gripe that when you cut and paste elements from one PDF into another that the precise position is lost. Illustrator and InDesign both support this feature. Has this been addressed in the XI version?

Can confirm that the Content Editing > "Edit Text & Images" can copy paste to the offset position.
However this tool does not allow you to select a form element to allow you to copy it.
The Interactive Object > "Select Object" tool copy pastes to the center of the page.
So as far as I can see paste in place for form elements is still broken.
The only way we have got around this is create a text field as big as the page covering everything else.
select all and copy. then paste. The result is centered then deselect all and then select the big 'placer' field and delete it.
A cludge of a work around but so far the only way in Acrobat X1 and below. on both Mac and windows.

Oracle function and query return different results

Hi, I am using oracle 10g database.
Function is :

But if I run same query in the function seperately ;

I get different result 11344 (which is the right one).
Table and function are in the same schema.
What can be the problem ?

1. i think ur parameter name and Column names are same Firstdate and seconddate try to choose different name
2. try using Trunc function around your dates
where trunc(tbl.myDateColumn) between trunc(firstDate) and trunc(secondDate)then compare the result....sometimes time elements comes into play.
