Paste In-to-Out?

Hi and thanks to all for stopping by!
I just want to Paste IN-TO-OUT. Is this possible? I have tried the usual - setting in/out points, but paste only adheres to the entirety of what has been copied.
Sorry to bring it up, but in Avid, you can see the clipboard contents, and simply overwrite or insert from there.
Is there a way to see the clipboard contents or to simply paste in-to-out?

That would be "paste to fit" where it modifies the pasted clip's duration to meet
the in/out point duration.
I just want to for example:
Copy my 8 tracks of audio from one clip, and paste them into the correct place in the sequence at my designated in/out points. Therefore, it's only pasting the amount that I've designated (not the entire clip that I copied).
Of course, there are many long ways to do this, and this all derives from the problem of not being able to un-nest. See, I need to nest because I'm syncing up to 6 tracks of audio, and it is extremely cumbersome to work with that many in a sequence. So I'm nesting the 6 tracks, but now I need a way to un-nest when I'm done. If I could double clip on each clip (shot) when I'm done, and copy/paste all the audio tracks back into my scene sequence, that'd be fine. But when I double click on a clip, it only retains the In point - it doesn't retain the out point set in the scene sequence.
So I guess I've ended up with my original question - can I copy something and then paste it just into the in/out points I've designated in the sequence?

I am trying to paste a phone number out of an email in my work environment to the dialing pad of the phone.
When I do that, I receive the error message that I am not allowed to paste work content into a personal application, although I am in the work environment and I have also opened the phone in the work environment.
When the email recognized the phone number "automatically," I am able to call that number.
I am using a Z30 with the software release 10.2.1.2102.

Hmmm go back and sign out and turn off iMessage then after that reset all settings, its not going to delete anything off the phone. After reset all settings. Go back turn imessages on and sign back in.

Paste function grayed out

I am working on a survey using Adobe FormsCentral, purchased version (not the free version). Previously i was able to copy or cut, and paste portions of my form to new areas. Today the paste option is grayed out. If i click cut, the element i attempt to cut becomes grayed out, but i cannot paste it anywhere, or undo.
I have tried re-starting both the chrome web browser, re-signing in to forms-central, re-booting the entire computer, tried both web-view and pdf view, tried making a copy of the entire survey. nothing. no ability to paste. I can copy and paste parts of the web to word doc, so i dont think it is my clipboard.
the only difference i can see between today and a week ago when i last edited is that i now have five responses from my team collaborators who took the survey in order to give me feedback. could these responses somehow prevent copying or cutting/pasting?

I just tried it on another computer, which only had firefox (no chrome). It worked fine - i could once again cut and paste. As a test, i downloaded chrome onto that computer, and low and behold, it did not work.
Now i am back on my own computer, and can successfully get it to work with firefox. I guess chrome must have updated in the last week, and something is not working now. I had not thought to try another browser, since I had the functionality on chrome previously.
Anyways, problem solved for me, i will just use firefox!

"Paste" is grayed out

When I copy a selection from one image in CS6 I am unable to paste it into a second image (same file format, TIF). The Paste command is grayed out. In CS4 I never had this issue. Running it in OS X Snow Leopard.

Thanks for that, marksey. I hate change in apps, and CS6 has plenty of changes — albeit I'm sure they're all (?) for the good. Have just discovered why I couldn't find image scaling in the Print dialog box, for instance — never had to scroll a Print box before!
Still, the adjustment is easier than, gasp, Excel 2011.

Can't cut copy paste; all grayed out?

I just download a movie from an archive site. I chose mpg-1 as the compression and sent it to my movies under applications. I opened it up and the file read .mov. I then opened it up to cut away un-needed parts by using the slider clips. When I got to edit, the cut, paste, copy, trim selection options are grayed out. I have QT Pro and am using QT 7.0.4 I'm a little new at this. What can I do other than opening it in imovie because that keeps the entire file in place. Any ideas?

I chose to download a mpg file. It reads as a .mov after download. Shouldn't QT work? Or is it not really a .mov file?<<</div>
It is downloaded as an mpeg file but when you used the browser plug-in you apparently chose "Save as Quicktime Movie." That puts a QT or .mov wrapper around the file. If you choose "Save as Source." the downloaded file should be saved exactly as the file was on the sending site.
Even though the file may have a .mov icon it is still an mpeg inside the QT wrapper. QT will not support the editing of the file or allow the export of sound to any new format. QT Mpeg Limitations

Pasting Images w/out Background Help

Hello All,
I'm still learning InDesign and I have always had a problem with pasting images that have their background removed and are GIF or TIFF files and then once pasted into InDesign the white background appears again. I often open the image in photoshop, use the magic eraser to remove the white background and then save as a GIF or TIFF. Yet whenever pasted into InDesign the pesky white is back. Please help, I am open to options but would appreciate the easiest and most effective.

As Bob said, NEVER paste.
But in case you are using "paste" as a shorthand for placing an image
and are doing it correctly, another thought.
When you save from Photoshop, are you electing to save transparency?
That's an option on the save dialogue.

Not getting past step 2 out of 3 with flash installer. please help!

Im trying to run MP3 rocket pro.
I have already made it run once since downloading it. Once i closed mp3 rocket and tryed reopening it. I got the box saying i needed to install flash player 10 or higher. I go to adobe and download it. I open up my download folder and hit run and the box disaperes but nothing happens. i then try to click on the download box again but it says only one program can run at a time. Im stuck at this point. i have gotten nowhere with internet Explorer so i uninstalled it and tryed to download chrome but now thats not running correctly . I have tryed installing and uninstalling adobe and mp3 rocket and got nowhere. its just chewing up my internet.
this is a 2nd hand laptop so should i just do a rebot and be done with it or ?

Nobody can tell you anything without proper system info or other technical details. That aside, there's a whole Flash Player forum where people deal with this all the time and you may simply get better answers overall

Since I upgraded, I am having problems with words coming out wrong. For example, it is supposed to say "Who's Online in the last 15 minutes;" it actually says "Xip(t pomjof jo uif mbtu 26 Njovuft;" but when I copy and paste, it comes out correct.

URGENT:Must delete my alias but still access that old email in/out in past.

I MUST immediately no longer send or receive email from an alias email name i have set up on my dslextreme ISP.
I know i can do that if i go onto that ISP and 'delete' that alias. Then that alias will no longer be used to either send or receive, they said. OK.
But definitely want and need to still be able to see all the old email I have ever sent or received (over the years) in the past.
Doesn't seem right that it might be lost, all my old in and out records, and not viewable ever again in my 'MAIL' aplic.
I want to still be able to access and read all my old in &/or out mail.
My ISP tech support said I could delete that alias on their end, but if I maintained it on my Apple 'MAIL' it would be constantly searching for an inactive address and sending me messages every day that it was unable to find that account. That's okk, I guess, now that I think about it. I just worry that I must somehow still be able too read all my old past in and out letters. If I can do that I'll be happy.
Doesn't seeem right that if I make an email address deleted or inactive on MAIL Prefs, that I can never see those old messages again.

If the account was a POP type account, your emails should already be stored locally. If the account was an IMAP type account, then it is saved on the server, so if you will lose access to the server, you should copy them locally. If you don't know, you should be able to tell by opening Mail preferences to the Accounts pane. Select the account in the sidebar and look under +Account Information+. The +Account Type+ should be shown there.
If it is IMAP, you can copy your email to your local drive.
Look to the bottom of the Mail window sidebar. You should see a plus sign. Click that and select +New Mailbox+. In the drop down dialog box, for Location select *On My Mac* and name it. A good name might be "email from (alias)" or something that refers to that alias. You should see a new +On My Mac+ section appear in the Mail window sidebar, if you did not have one before.
Repeat the plus sign +New Mailbox+ command again and again, to create folders (mailboxes) within your previously created folder. Now copy your email as you see fit from your existing account email folders to your +On My Mac+ folders.

Copy and/or Cut and Paste no longer works from within Firefox yet I can Paste to Notepad and yet again copy the same text from within Notepad or any app will not Paste back into Firefox, thanks

I 'Copy & Paste' from within Firefox quite often but for some reason the function has stopped working when using some sites, even the menu item 'Paste' is greyed out, yet I can open Notepad and 'Paste'. I tried pasting into 'Notepad' then copying from Notepad and pasting back into Firefox, which I've found in the past sometimes works but today even that does not work. I accept it may not actually be a Firefox problem but I have noticed since upgrading to the latest version, I am having several problems with crashing and hanging exceedingly long execution of the browser.

How can I keep my text format after pasting a text with a different format?

No matter when and where I start to write some text (whether it is a SImpleText, E-Mails, or anyother application's doc), if I have to cut and paste a text from a different source that is formatted differently than my original text (ie. the one I am already using ), once I have pasted the differently formatted text in my doc, the typeset changes while it continues to type with the same formatt used in the text I just pasted.
How can I continue typing with the same text formatt used before pasting the new text, after pasting the new text, without having to change size, font style etc. Is there a short cut?
What I have been doing to avoid this problem is: I usually type my entire text content (whether it is an E-Mail, or other doc) then, once I am done typing, I paste the text that was cut from a differently formatted document, so that my text remains with the same formatt in its integrity, while the pasted text stands out differently, but it is a bit complex doing that , because I not only have to remember to paste the other text when I am done typing (I run the risk of forgetting to paste the text I need to insert--which has happened already) or I keep struggling with my formatt change after the pasting of the new text, so my document text starts looking like the same text as the one which was just pasted.

(1) First, let's make sure we're talking about the same thing. By "SImpleText, E-Mails" you mean TextEdit and Mail, right?
(2) Some apps (TextEdit, Mail) use the text engine provided by Mac OS X. By and large, these apps will behave in a similar manner. Others (eg, MS Word) use their own text engine, and their behaviour can be quite different. For such an app you need to consult its manual.

(4) However, if you may want the pasted text to retain its own attributes, while you continue to type in the previous style. I don't know of any shortcut or command that will achieve this. However, you can try to work around it.
(4.1) TextEdit has the Copy Style (⌘⌥C) and Paste Style (⌘⌥V) commands. If you haven't yet used it, ⌘⌥V will insert the default style. So type, paste, ⌘⌥V, then continue typing. If you have used, it will insert whatever style was copied. You can, type, ⌘V, click somewhere before the pasted text, ⌘⌥C, click after the pasted text, ⌘⌥V, and continue typing.
(4.2) Alternatively, type your text. Then type one more character, eg, "x". Then ←, ⌘V, ⇧→, and start typing. The new text should adopt "x"'s format. (This should work in Mail, too. I don't know, because IMHO e-mail should always be plain text.)

How do i copy and paste selected rows from numbers to another numbers worksheet

I have asked this question before, but it sounds as if numbers did not have the update at that time. I have pasted a spreadsheet from excel into numbers. I would now like to take selected rows, for example, row 5, row 9, row 22, row 27, etc, copy these entire rows, and pastte into another blank numbers work sheet. In excel, one can hold down the ctrl key, and click on each row they want to copy, and all will be copied in one operation, Than you can paste into a new excel work sheet. I have tried this on my ipad 2 many times, holding down the command key, and tapping on each row I want to copy. I just cannot get this to work. Please let me know how to do this, if numbers even has this possible. Thanks.

Command Key.... on ipad? Ddint know there was one.
As for copying non-continuous ranges, cannot be done on ipad at this time. On a desktop maybe, but i cannot test it right now.
Each row can be done individually, or you could sort the rows to grab the range you want. To do this (espeically if there is nothing that is unique about them), just make a new column and place a 1 in the cell for each row you want to copy, sort. That will place all your rows together and enable you to copy.paste them back out.
If you want to preserve the original sort order, make another column (I usually use A for this) and put in =ROW() as the equation. Fill it down for the whole table and copy/paste values over it. now after you do any kind of sorting, you can always return the list to the original sort order.

Cannot copy and paste in Leopard "anywhere"

Simple Post. I simply can't copy and paste since I've installed Leopard. I'm running 10.5.1. It appears to copy but paste not only doesn't work, the selection "paste" is grayed out under the edit menu. Help! I've searched the site and can't find the answer.

Try this
Go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist and
com.apple.LaunchServices.plist and trash both files then log out and back in or restart. (EDIT: You may have to rest a few Finder prefs)

Can't Paste Images in Photoshop CS6

Hi,
I'm trying to copy images from File Explorer to Photoshop CS6, but when I press Ctrl+V nothing happens. When i go to Edit, Paste is grayed out.
Please help!
I am using Windows 8 64 bit.

Also, I can't drag and drop, and when I go to File > Open > Pictures only one folder shows up (Evolve) with nothing in it. Even though I have tons of other folders and images.

Can no longer copy and paste filenames from the finder to other Apps?

Did Leopard remove the ability to copy a file or folder name in the finder, and then paste that into a text editor?
I have a need to copy file and folder names from the finder, then paste those names into BBEdit. I've been doing this for years. Now with Leopard, I can copy the file or folder names, and even see them in the clipboard of the Finder. But when I try to paste them into BBEdit, TextEdit, Word, Pages... nothing happens. And Paste is grayed out in the target application. As if I had never copied the item in the first place.
Can anyone else copy filenames in the finder? Or do I have a system-specific problem?

Never mind. Apparently there was something going wrong with the Finder. I ran Onyx, and things are back to normal now. I was concerned because I actually saw similar but not identical behavior on two Leopard machines. Running Onyx on the 2nd one now.
