PASTE not working :(

So simple... I have a headline in InDesign that i've converted to outlines, and tried to cut/paste into Illustrator. But no dice.
So I tested in PS. And it worked like it should.
So then I try copy/paste a shape into Illustrator... and NO DICE.
The only thing that works is if I copy the TEXT and paste it into an Illustrator text box.
This is really frustrating... any ideas?

Here's a workaround:
Make a pdf from InDesign, open it in Illy. Now you can copy/paste as you wish.
I've often done this, and not just with outlined text elements. You can copy pretty much anything from a pdf.
Careful though; InDesign produces a lot of masks so if the pdf file is complicated it can be a bit troublesome finding out what is what. It sometimes helps to turn off the preview when you open the pdf in Illy and find your way around by double-clicking on things with the direct selection (white arrow) tool. Hide bits you don't want to copy.
Another thing; outlined type is not grouped, so you have to select the letters carefully and group them as soon as you paste into Illy.
And of course any images are embedded, so you might prefer to copy them to Photoshop, re-save and re-link them.

Cut/Paste not working in Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac

I am using Microsoft Remote Desktop V8.05 build 24428 on a Mac under the latest Mavericks OS, and I find that Cut and Paste are not working. When I paste on Remote Desktop Windows always pastes the last thing cut/copied under the Windows remote session,
rather than whatever I just cut/copied in another Mac window.
I am well aware that the keystrokes are different, and I tried to follow the instructions on another question which indicated that I should select the console session checkbox on Remote Desktop's 'Connection' configuration window. However Remote
Desktop no longer seems to have that option ... the topmost line now shows 'Admin Console' and checking it did not help with cut/paste.
I hope you can tell me how to get this working as cut/paste is a great convenience.

Clipboard redirection is not supported in current versions of Microsoft Remote Desktop. However, I will help to submit this as customer wish to the product team.

Dreamweaver copy and paste not working

Hi
The copy and paste functions on my Dreamweaver have stopped
working.
The copy and paste functions are greyed out in the edit drop
down in both code and design views. Ctr C and V are also not
working.
Tried various fixes including moving the config folder and
reinstalling but nothing has worked.
Any suggestions?

You can try this simple fix -
Quit DW.
Find this folder -
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
8\Configuration\WinFileCache-*.dat
(these folders are normally hidden - you may have to use
Explorer > Tools >
Folder Options to unhide them)
and delete it.
Restart DW. Works better?

Assuming that your system runs Windows, there are a number of ways to paste the contents of the Clipboard into your document. The most trustworthy way is to use CTRL+v

Middle-click for pasting not working

I'm not too sure what the problem is, but here's my setup:
I've got X installed, with a minimal .xinitrc for wmii (following https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wmii)
Right now, it's really just

in order to simulate the middle button (my laptop only has 2 buttons).
I've also got gvim (following the advice from https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=124842&p=1) installed. At best, I expect that middle-click pasting should work between different tabs of firefox, but even that doesnt work?

It could either need cleaning or a a software reload.

Cut, Copy and Paste not working Photoshop CC

Cut, Copy and Paste are not working in Photoshop CC.
I tried resetting my tools and preferences, using edit > purge, reinstalling Photoshop CC and reinstalling OSX. Nothing has worked! Help!

For about 2 weeks I had this problem and today I fixed it!
Didn't fancy doing a Reset of Firefox as I'd only just done one a few months ago, manually.
Basically, I uninstalled ZoneAlarm. I've been a ZoneAlarm fan for years but the software just got worse and worse and for about a year this weird thing pops up while I'm in Firefox by pressing CTRL Enter or something, it's like ZoneAlarm has put some kind of layer between me and the browser.
Anyway, uninstalled it, it rebooted and did a scandisk which did find and fix a few errors too, so could also be that.
But I'm happy without ZA now as I've found a better one called Online Armour... non of that sneaky trying to install toolbars in your browser rubbish of ZA.

Cut/copy and Paste NOT working, NO malware and registry edit only temporary in FF 18.0.2

I've followed EVERY suggested "cure" for the FAILED Cut/Copy - Paste function in FF 18.0.2 without success and am entirely considering UNINSTALLING FF and going back to IE8. There are MANY FF features I like and want to keep it but the simplest things become so frustrating ...
SUCH AS: 1) Clipboard has worked ONLY SPORADICALLY no matter what I do, 2) Why is there no URL history while using PRIVATE BROWSING so I can retrace my own steps when needed by either pressing the BACKSPACE key or clicking the back arrow. Pressing the back arrow ONLY goes a certain number of steps back and then loses my origination point., 3) Why does the EMPTY CACHE button NOT clear all HISTORY. i.e., I go to a website, say Yahoo email, do my thing and sign out, then click HOME then Empty Cache and enter Yahoo email for a different email account and Yahoo recognizes my attempt and enters me into my previous email User name. Shouldn't happen, in my opinion. Any help here, WITHOUT run AV/malware detection/clean and delete registry entries since NONE OF THESE do anything positive??

Copy/Paste not working in Firefox v23 & v24 without ZoneAlarm installed

Recently I updated my Firefox from version 22 to 23 and I noticed copy and paste text from web pages in Firefox to other applications like notepad and even Firefox not working in my windows 8 x86. Copying text from other apps like notepad and pasting to Firefox works fine!
I also updated it to beta v24 and same problem is still there. I don't have any issue with IE.
BTW I don't have ZoneAlarm Installed.

If it works when you boot Windows in Safe Mode then it is likely that your security software is causing this problem.
Other programs apart form ZoneAlarm can cause such issues as well.
Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

Cut and Paste not working for specific client?

I have recently upgraded some users to Gui 710 Patch 8. However on one users install, she cannot copy and paste the entire content of a cell. For example:
If she copies aaaabbbbbccccdddd, she'll only get aaaabbbbbcccc. For some reason it gets truncated.
I have tried this on my identical install and can do the exact same cut and paste for the same input field fine. I did a reinstall of her Gui, but that did not help. I checked her user parameters and could not find anything to alter this behavior. I tried "Quick Cut and Paste" also, and that yielded the same incorrect results. I did not see anything else in the Options / I18N that would alter this?
Any ideas where to look?

Thanks for the reply. I did try the cut & paste option in the expert tab and that did not work.
I am copying from a normal user input field to another input field. This is not static text that you would have to CTRL+Y to copy.

Copy and paste not working across all apps in lion

Copy and paste stops working across all apps in lion. It maybe some compatibility issue. After a reboot I am able to copy and paste but at some point it stops functioning.

I am also having this problem. After running for a while copy/paste stops working, whether from menus or using the keyboard equivalents.

IPhoto Paste not working

The paste function on my iPhoto has stopped working. The paste function works on the rest of my computer but when I try to copy and paste within iPhoto it just doesn't want to work. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

I have been using iPhoto for about six years and have always used the cut/copy paste function to move photos between events. It has just suddnley stopped working out of no where.
I appreciate the way you have suggested but it seems a little more work and complication then a simple copy/paste

Cut and paste not working in iphoto

I can't cut and paste between events in iPhoto any longer. i tried flagging a photo but the add flag item to event was grayed out. how can you move photos between events. i tried dragging but page didn't scroll very well so was a little inefficient

I see, in the "Photos" album I cannot cut and paste either. I can cut the photo from the event, but not paste it into a different event, because It is impossible to select the event for pasting in the Photos album.
@ Terence Devlin, is pasting into an event supposed to work inside the Photos album?
I can paste into an event in the Events view. And dragging and dropping between events is working well in the Photos view.

This cannot work in Photos view, because "Add flagged items to the selected event" requires an event to be selected, an in the Photos album is no selected event. You can create a new event from the flagged photos and drag this event on top of the event where you want them to go.
So, I am afraid you will have to switch between the Photos album and the Events view to move your photos around.

Paste not working properly in DW for Mac

Ok, here's a gripe which has long irritated me, but which is so minor I've not bothered posting about it before now because by the time I fight my way through the Adobe site, login to the fora, type and post a message, I fixed the problem manually, but it's got to the stage where it's got my goat.
I'm using DW 9 (CS3) under Mac OS/X Tiger (10.4), but the problem's occurred in previous versions of DW. Basically, I can't paste anything but bare text into design view. It doesn't matter from which application I've copied, even bare text in a web page, hitting Cmd-V does zip. I have to go into Paste Special and choose Text Only - all other options do bubkes. I can go into Code View and paste which of course just drops in unformatted text. This is a real PITA in situations like now, where I've got to go through 3 pages worth of academic references manually inserting carriage returns then formatting text as bold and italic. Is this a known 'issue' with DW for Mac? There's nothing wrong with the DW prefs that I can see, and I've been using this damn software for the best part of a decade so it's not as if I'm a newbie, though my Mac usage is relatively recent (last couple of years).
I've got to say that DW on the Mac, as you guys across the Pond say, sucks bigtime. It's memory usage is less than optimal (activity meter sometimes hits near 100% processor usage if DW's working), it's often keyboard-abusingly slow, and there are so many little 'idiosyncrasies' that irritate that it would take pages to outline them all. The irritations are so minor that it's not worth posting about them usually (getting to this stage has cost me 15 minutes, in which time I could have added all the CRs in my ref list), but it does grate that hundreds of dollars worth of bloatware grinds along on what is pretty much a top of the range machine (Macbook Pro). Luckily I'm not paying for the software - my employer is, otherwise I'd be really narked. I only use it on account of the site management capabilities which aren't duplicated AFAIK in any Open Source software.
Ok, that's that off my chest. Back to basic sodding text editing that I shouldn't have to do...

Just to add another gripe about DW for Mac, it hangs and/or crashes on a regular basis. For example, I've just now asked it to open a small (8kb) XML file and it's gone into a funk with the old spinning disk, which I'll have to force quit. No big, but not what you'd expect of a 'premium' product.

Copy and Paste not working properly in MLion

A week or so ago I purchased and installed the upgrade to Mountain Lion OS X. Whenever I try to copy large number of files from one folder to onother in my desktop, the copy and paste process does not.
Copy/Paste of a few files works, different from the previous OS system but works. However, if I copy 3000 files or more then the computer slows down significantly or freezes. The little colorful spinning wheel replaces the cursor arrow and cannot use anything else in the computer. I need to abort the finder (op+com+esc) to stop the process. While copying large number of files the copy status bar never appears to show the copying process. I was used to see the copy status window with information about the number of files, their size, time remaining and the little bar in the middle growing from left to right as the copy process continued. None of this happens with MLion.
I called Apple for service. I spent hrs with their customer service people on the phone who suggested a number of things that we implemented to try to correct the problem. Nothing worked! Finally they asked me to reinstall MLion and so I did. The problem was not fixed. They asked me turn on, off, unplug the computer, etc. and nothing fixed the problem.
In sum I just want my old OS system that used to work fine. MLion is substandard, we do not want our money back we just want the computer to work as it used to so we can return to be productive again. Any suggestion on how to reinstall SLeopard without having to reinstall every single piece of software in the computer? Thanks.

I was downloading Midi files from a reliable website that I've using for years www.vgmusic.com. I was using Safari, so I downloaded Midi soundfiles from a particular videogame using the ALT key to speed things up. Say I downloaded 120 small (10-100KB ) files. I SHIFT selected them from the Downloads Folder and then I dragged them with CMD to place them in my 500GB (the non-system) partition. It got stuck. File is being used, was the message given.
So I thought it was Safari-related, so I switched to Firefox and downloaded another batch and dragged them to my Midi folder on the 500GB. Same thing. I've restarted and quit all open programs. I thought it was an external drive that was hogging access, so I unplugged all my external HDDs (320GB FAT32, 1GB NTFS, 3GB HFS+).
I also thought that VLC was the culprit so I reinstalled it and erased the preferences. Now it is not running.
Now I have some greyed-out files that are zero-kilobytes in the destination folder.
Let's say I try to move the first one "pkrs_petersburg.mid" and "pokecenter.mid" , this appears,
A message saying "preparing to move to "PokemonRSE" "preparing to move 2 files". Come on, I would expect to see this if the files were large, these are 23KB and 9KB!!
The message is in French and it means "It's not possible to move the file "pokecenter.mid" right now because it is being used by another task, such as the copying or moving of a file or the emptying of the Trash. Try again once the task is finished.
The other message (from a previous attempt) is "It is not possible to place all selected files in the same place: at least one of them, named "pokecenter.mid" is being used."
I already emptied out my Trash!

Copy and Paste not working in the apple email app

I have an iPhone 3GS and copy and paste works fine everywhere else. For some reason, copy and paste will not function in the email app. Is this normal? When advertising copy and paste, Apple's website describes being able to copy and paste in email. I understand that paste shouldn't show up when reading a received email, only copy or select. But I am getting no options. The weird thing is, if I double tap a word or paragraph, the highlighting tool shows up. I am able to adjust what text is highlighted with the "bars." But once I take my finger off the highlighting tool, no option menu pops up. The text remains highlighted with no ability to click copy. Also, the highlighting tool only appears if I double tap. If I hold my finger down, a magnifying glass appears with a curser (but no keyboard b/c it is a received message) yet if I take my finger off, a "select" or "select all" doesn't appear. Clearly something has to be wrong right, otherwise why would I be able to highlight text? Anyone else have this issue/ know how to fix it / suggested troubleshooting tips?

copy&paste does behave differently in mail than other apps... i have found that if you hold for the magnifier to appear then slightly drag left and let go you then get the select button...
while in other apps just tapping grabs the selection... it's def. different in mail but it is there!
