Paste Remembers Layers - CS6

Why doesn't Illustrator CS6 remember the layers, sublayers, and graphic styles of the multiple components of an object that I'm copying and pasting, either to another document or within the same document?
"Paste Remembers Layers" is checked.
The pasted object comes in all on the same layer, the top layer that subsumes the several layers upon which the compnents of the copied object are located. And the pasted object has neither fills nor strokes,
Is there some other parameter I have to select?
Is it a new bug?
It seems like something as simple as copying and pasting (either within the same document or to a different document) an object that consists of things on different sublayers, and whose sublayers have graphic styles applied to them ought to be basic to the Illustrator works.
What is wrong?

I just tried making a new master layer, and put all the layers into it as sublayers.
Paste remembers layers is checked.
The pasted object appeared in the master layer, not in the several layers that the components of the copied object are in.
And I don't have any extensions for my clipboard or thrid party tools for my OS (Windows 7). None that I've installed or know about anyway.

I am studying the advanced layer operations with Illustrator CIB.
I played with Paste Remembers Layers but only found out when it is unchecked, the layers copied from another file are pasted into the active layer; no other difference.
Could someone please describe for me what Paste Remembers Layers is actually supposed to do?
I've read other posts concerning the option, but I'm still not clear.

I don’t think it’s a misnomer, it remembers the name of the layer to paste into.
Suppose you copy something from a layer named “A” and paste it into a another document.
It will create a new layer with the name “A” if such a layer does not exist
It will paste it into a layer with the name “A” if such a layer exists.

How to use "Paste Remembers Layers" through JS?

I need to place a library assets. So that i gave assest.placeAsset(activeDocument). But it is placed in the active layer. The library asset was created by so many pageitems in different layers. Manually the paste remember layers is perfectly working. i don't know how to do in Java script. How to do?

Is it possible to preserve layers from Indesign to Photoshop and copy them all in one copy/paste rather than copying each layer individually?

Not as far as I know.
Should no one else have better info and if the task is a frequent one you may want to look into Scripting for automating it.

CS 5.5 Mac - can't copy and paste between layers

I'm running CS 5.5 on Mac (OS 10.7.4). Try as I might, I can't copy and paste between layers.
Create new document
Create new layer (= 2)
With first layer active, create text box and type randomly
Swtich to pointer, select text box, Copy
With second layer active, Paste
Error message onscreen:
<<Cannot paste or place onto locked or hidden layers. Do you want to unlock and show all affected layers in order to paste?>>
If click OK, the source layer (layer 1) becomes active again, and my text box gets pasted in. The destination layer (layer 2) is untouched.
Both layers are visible, neither of them are locked.
Any ideas much appreciated!

It sounds like you need to trash your prefs. See Replace Your Preferences
And it shouldn't throw that message, but also check to be sure that Paste Remembers Layers isn't checked in the Layers panel flyout menu or you'll never get anything to paste from one layer to another.

Copy/Paste in Photoshop CS6

No matter what I do, I cannot copy/paste in photoshop cs6.
I'm trying to copy a layer from one tab (project) to another. I've also trying dragging it but it just won't do it.
I've worked in CS5 and this has never been problem. What am I doing wrong?

I jumped form CS2 to CS6, so I had this same problem. I am so used to dragging my layers in, and I didn't want to submit to the "duplicate layer" method. Followed PECourtejioe's instructions too literally so my layer didn't copy! But then I inadvertantly figured out, you must bring your pointer BACK DOWN into the screen/canvas and it will copy. DUH! (I was dragging to the tab and holding my pointer there to no avail!) It was then when I accidentally moved my mouse into the screen did I notice a little "+" sign. Also, other forums make sense when they say, depending on where you point your pointer in the destination canvas, is where your image will land. Holding "shift" before you drop into the screen will center it!

Yes, other users have complained about that. Unfortunately, Fireworks' development was halted a year ago, and I would be surprised if Adobe spends any money or time to fix bugs and interoperability issues in Fireworks. I would not expect any real updates or fixes.
Tough to swallow, but FW is dead in the water and EOL'ed.

Why Can't I Copy/Paste Into Dreamweaver CS6?

I am running Windows XP Professional w/ Service Pack 3 and I have Dreamweaver CS4 and CS6 installed.
When I work on sites in CS6 I find I'm having issues with copying and pasting. It doesn't matter where I try to pull the information from, it won't paste into Dreamweaver CS6 (code view or design view). It seems to work fine in CS4, as well as every other application I try to paste to.
I don't have CS4 and CS6 open simultaneously. I just kept CS4 because it had a bunch of info on other sites I need to transfer over, as well as testing CS6 before fully commiting to it.
Any insight or help would be appreciated.

I have this problem, too, and it's driving me f'n crazy, too!
While I'm happy other forum members are offering to help by asking diagnostic questions, why grill us over what we have installed and what we can and can't do? This is a problem shared by many users. Why is the burden of "proof' on our shoulders? No offense meant, Nancy and Murray, but are you going to be able to resolve this bug? Unless you work at Adobe, I doubt it! It's not something WE are doing.
I've been using Dreamweaver since version 1.0 in 1998 or so, and I've never had this problem. It seems like something that should be pretty basic to identify and fix. Shouldn't Adobe be on these forums asking what programs we have installed on our machines and what we can and can't do? What help is it if a fellow forum member asks these questions? Adobe is a major corporation that should be listening to our issues, especially if we're forking over $600 PER YEAR for Creative Cloud!
This problem needs to be fixed, and it needs to be fixed now. I can't work like this!

Why does pasting multiple layers into a different comp ruin the order?

I have 6 layers in a comp, and I'm taking them across, via copy/paste, to another comp. Each second layer is an Alpha channel for the one below it. However when they're pasted into the next comp they ALWAYS are reversed, or randomly resorted, ruining everything about their blends and alpha relationships with one another.
Why does After Effects do this? Is there a way to prevent it from happening?
This doesn't just happen in this instance, I've noticed it nearly always happening when pasting multiple layers.
Is there ANY conceivable benefit to this happening, ever?

Layers are pasted in the order they are selected. Select the top layer first then shift select the bottom and they will paste in the same order. Select the bottom layer first and then shift select the top and the layer order will be reversed. Ctrl/Cmnd + select layers in any order and they will be pasted in that order.
Lets assume you have layers in this order. Red, White, Blue.
Select Red then shift select Blue, copy and paste and you'll get Red White Blue.
Selec Blue then shift select Red, copy and paste and you'll get Blue White Red.
Ctrl/Cmnd + select White, Red, and Bluae, copy and paste and yo'll get White Red Blue

Cannot copy and paste in InDesign CS6

I am trying out InDesign CS6 as an upgrade, but I cannot copy and paste.
Does anyone know about this or have a solution?

Is this from within a document, or trying to paste external content, or both? Have you tried Replace Your Preferences ?

Adjustment layers effects not applying when flattening image or merging layers CS6

So about a week ago I noticed something changed with my adjustment layers. In an image I would make a selection and start using adjustment layers to edit that selection, and then once I was finished, I would merge the adjustment layers together so that I could erase outside areas where the effect was not intended. However, whenever I merged the layers, the effects would go away and the thumbnail preview by the layer title would become blank (gray and white transparent) as if there was not anything on the layer. I messed around and I reset Photoshop, and then I thought the layers were fixed. They were somewhat fixed, except I've started having trouble again. Now I'm having difficulty editing this one image i'm on. It's a portrait with a photoshop-created red mask going around eyes, and I used the dissolve layer effect on the original mask creation which was black at first. Then I selected that selection and made more layers editing the hue, saturation, brightness/contrast, and exposure.
I tried to save the image as a jpeg, and the effects were messed up. The hue and all other adjustment layers seemingly applied, except the dissolve effect does not show up at all. So I tried to fix it manually. I flattened the image first with intention to then save it as a jpeg, but as soon as I flattened the image, again the dissolve effect was not applied. Then I tried to merge the layers, and yet again, the dissolve effect was not showing up. It shows up fine in PSD form, something's wrong with the conversion process. Please don't be mean to me. I'm not great at photoshop, I'm not saying that I am or claiming to be a pro or anything I just want help from people who actually get it. I have CS6 and use a Macbook Pro.

I stopped even trying to read this append. For is seems very complex and overwhelmed my little mind. Please consider including some screen captures showing your Photoshop window with your document that your writing about open and the layer palette shows the structure of the document. For me examples and screen capture of the steps involves involved would be very helpful.

Can't create frames from layers CS6

I have looked at multiple tutorials saying that to create an animated gif in Photoshop CS6, you just open the Timeline palette and select "Create Frames from Layers" from the dropdown. I don't see this option, not even grayed out. What is the problem?

Non responsive copy and paste in Illustrator CS6

Hello,
Since April we are using the Adobe Design suite CS6. We are experiencing some serious copy and paste issues. When our users try to copy some artwork and paste it into the same image again, it might occur that the system is non responsive to the action performed. Really nothing happens.
This happens in about 50% of the times. The other 50% the artwork will appear within a delay of about 5-10 seconds.
Anyone having similar issues? Of could point us to any working direction?

Mocha Corner Pin Data Changing Scale of Solid Layers (CS6)

Hi, im new to the adobe forums (not after effects though) and im having some trouble with Mocha tracking corner pin data. I have been practicing this sub-surface skin effect from Iron Man 3 that Video Copilot made a tutorial on, but im having some problems. The first time i did it, everything went fine. I got the effect the way I wanted it and it looked amazing. The second time, things began to go wrong. I had all my footage elements in the correct place and pre-composed. I had tracked out everything in Mocha previous to creating the effect. I selected the correct corner pin data type (the one that does not support motion blur) and copied to clipboard. I pasted it onto the composition with all the effects footage and... it got about 3 times smaller. Ive tried to do this many times since then and it keeps happening. Ive resorted to using a null object when this happens, but i want to know what im doing wrong. Ive looked all over the web and someone has probably posted a fix somewhere, but im tired of looking. Please, if you know whats going on, reply.

I took some photos of a simpler version of whats going on.
Just in AE with my footage.
About to track in mocha.
Tracked in mocha (only tracked half because i didnt want to wait).
Adding a solid to paste my corner pin data to.
Masked it to where I wanted it.
Selected the type of data I wanted.
Copy to clipboard.
Paste.
Great... the insert image thing grayed out.
Going to have to post the last pic separately.

Copy and Paste Multi Layers

I have a picture with several layers. I doubled the width of the canvas size to fit two up for printing.
How do I copy all the layers to paste an exact duplicate with all the layers in tact without having to flatten the image?

Thanks...That's a neat trick, but not quite what I need to do.
I need to select each layer as a group then duplicate them to create the same picture side by side or drag and drop all the duplicated layers intact on the extended canvas. I cannot use the picture package because the size is not a usual format.
In short, we have Employee badges that are printed through a 4 x 7 printer, to save paper we want to print the badges two up, but the layout template with its numerous layers is only one up.
It would be really easy just to flatten the image, then duplicate the layer, but each badge has text layers that change with each employee's name, number etc., so all the layers have to be editable when there are two up.
The issue is how can separate layers be copied and pasted or selected and dragged and dropped as a group in Photoshop and still retain the editable layers?
