Paste Special link from excel to Ms project 365

Hi
I don't have a paste link button on my ms project 365? I am trying to import an excel sheet and the option to link the two isn't available on the project side? Can someone please advise.

If you're using Project Pro 2013 for Office 365, Julie's right: in the task ribbon, under paste, click on "paste special" then "paste link".

So I am trying to link an existing excel worksheet to MS Project. The desired functionality would be for users to keep updating information in excel, which would update MSP.
Problems are,
-I cant seem to get the mapping wizard to select the cells I want to link.
-Can i make it so that the MSP automatically updates with information as it is updated in excel?
-Am I completely wasting my time here, is it better spent throwing excel out and starting fresh with project (including trainng users)

I would challenge you why your schedulers need to type the updates into Excel instead of just typing the updates directly into the Microsoft Project schedule. If you absolutely need to follow the path of entering the updates into an Excel workbook,
Microsoft Project has an Import Wizard that allows a user to update a project using data from an Excel workbook. Keep in mind that the process of importing the data from Excel to Microsoft Project is MANUAL and not automatic.
I have personally used the Import Wizard to import updates from Excel to Microsoft Project, but with mixed results, some good and some bad. It is not a process I would personally recommend because it seems to behave inconsistently. If you have
your schedulers type the updates in the Microsoft Project schedule directly, you will not see the inconsistent behavior I have seen with the Import Wizard. Just a thought. Hope this helps.

Firefox doesn't store the bookmarks as separate files in a folder, but uses a sqlite database file with the name places.sqlite.
You will have to export those favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in Firefox.
Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML : "From File"

Automatic Linking from Excel 2013 to Word 2013 not working.

I use Word and Excel to create reports about certain real estate properties. When I have a new job, I just rename the old files and continue working. I also have active links from Excel into Word that are set to automatically update. I
used to use Office 2003 and all worked fine. Now in 2013, after I rename and convert the files to the 2013 file formats, the links do not update automatically. Here are my steps:
1. Copy the 2003 Excel and Word files to a new folder (these files link properly, where if I make a change in Excel 2003 it automatically flows to Word 2003)
2. Rename the Excel and Word files to the new job name and convert them to 2013 file formats.
3. Open the now 2013 Word file and do not update Excel links (as it is still linked to old 2003 file).
4. Break all links in Word 2013 to the Excel 2003 files.
5. Insert new active Hyperlinks in Word 2013 to the Excel 2013 files making sure that it is set to "automatic updates".
HOWEVER, now the links will NOT automatically update. If I have both Word and Excel 2013 files open and make changes in Excel, you do not see them in Word. You have to right click on the area and choose "Update
Links". Is there anywhere else that controls the automatic update features?

I actually can reproduce this problem on one Office 2013 machine, but on the other machine with Office 2013, it automatically updates the link as it should.
You can create a new Word document and a new Excel file, copy the content from the old files to the new files, re-create the link, check if the link can automatically update.

Why do I get jumbled text when pasting a graph from Excel (mac 2011) into Illustrator cs6

The Goal: To copy a graph from Excel (mac 2011) and paste it into Illustrator cs6 as a vector graphic.
The graph's vector and layout is okay. Yet, the text / copy is jumbled text:

In Excel, right click and choose Format Chart Area. In the dialog at the left, choose Fonts. Change the font to Arial or something other than Calibri (Theme Body). Then copy/paste.

Is it possible to paste multiple selections from excel?

How do you detect in Java whether a multiple selection in excel has been copied to the clipboard.
For instance: I have an excel spreadsheet - 3 rows x 3 columns. I highlight the first 3 rows in column 1 and the first 3 rows in column 3 then I copy this to the clipboard (ctrl-c). If I now go to a text editor and paste this then the data from all 3 columns, not the expected 2 columns, appears.
Likewise, in Java I have tried using the clipboard object looking at all the different data flavours to find a way of detecting that only data from the 1st and the 3rd columns were copied. But I can't find a way.
This is most likely a microsoft issue in that they never make this information available from the clipboard.
Can anyone shed any light on this one?

Vector problem after copy/paste from Excel

In the past I've been able to drag or copy and paste an image from excel into Illustrator. I've lost that ability (sometimes I'll get a shadow image copied in, but it is not in vectors and it is not editable). If I save the figure as a PDF to copy it into Illustrator as a vector formatted object I cannot figure out how to change any formatting/colors. I can select individual bars in a bar graph, I can add an outline to them, but the option for changing the color is completely absent. I am fairly new to this, but would love help. I've tried releasing the clipping masks, but that only fills in the entire body of the chart with color. This literally all worked fine yesterday (and I can modify prior charts that I already imported with no problem). I'd love some help and feedback as I am fairly new to this and could be missing something! Thanks.

How to copy and paste from excel in Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.2 using the Mozilla 17 as my browser?

I'm using Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.2.300 and Mozilla 17 as my web browser, and I'm trying to paste a number from excel directly into a cell in a data form in Hyperion.
ie. after I copy the figure from a cell in excel, I go to a cell in Hyperion Planning and either press Ctrl+V or use the right-click mouse button on the cell where the Copy/Paste/Cut... menu appears.
Either way the number is not pasted (nothing happens)
On the other hand, if I double left-click in the cell (which is used for entering values manually in Hyperion Planning) the number if pasted correctly, however this is not a good workaround.

Yes you're absolutely right, I created VR from the manage form's menu. So I use standard HP 11.1.2 functionality. I've seen it in new features while read Oracle documentation. Also with testing of approvals in Proccess managment I use distinct colours for negatives and diff values (greater 1000 and 100 in my example). Colours work fine, but i can't say it about aprovals :). And all these examples of using planning form VR's i've taken from oracle administrators&user guiide and from presentations of EPM 11.1.2
In addition I've started work with Hyperion products 2-3 month ago. Hence I have to read a lot of information because my previous experience was OLTP, RDBMS not OLAP.
As a first step i wanna know all standard possibilities of product i use. And also best practice and some often used technics. Many thanks for your idea with Smart list and BR i'll try it (though i use EMPA and Calc Manager rules). I know that soon I have to use Java API's, so I might read and learn Java to write the simplest code first. But for me it's too much info i have to load into my brain in such short period :)
As a resume, my opinion it's a bug of new features EPM 11.1.2. But maybe I'm wrong cause none has said the same

How do i copy and paste selected rows from numbers to another numbers worksheet

I have asked this question before, but it sounds as if numbers did not have the update at that time. I have pasted a spreadsheet from excel into numbers. I would now like to take selected rows, for example, row 5, row 9, row 22, row 27, etc, copy these entire rows, and pastte into another blank numbers work sheet. In excel, one can hold down the ctrl key, and click on each row they want to copy, and all will be copied in one operation, Than you can paste into a new excel work sheet. I have tried this on my ipad 2 many times, holding down the command key, and tapping on each row I want to copy. I just cannot get this to work. Please let me know how to do this, if numbers even has this possible. Thanks.

Command Key.... on ipad? Ddint know there was one.
As for copying non-continuous ranges, cannot be done on ipad at this time. On a desktop maybe, but i cannot test it right now.
Each row can be done individually, or you could sort the rows to grab the range you want. To do this (espeically if there is nothing that is unique about them), just make a new column and place a 1 in the cell for each row you want to copy, sort. That will place all your rows together and enable you to copy.paste them back out.
If you want to preserve the original sort order, make another column (I usually use A for this) and put in =ROW() as the equation. Fill it down for the whole table and copy/paste values over it. now after you do any kind of sorting, you can always return the list to the original sort order.

Japanese characters retrieved from UTF8 d/b from excel

Hi All,
I am generating a csv file(comma seperated) through a query from Oracle 9i database. There is one field which is Japanese. Our database is UTF8 enabled and when the csv file is opened from notepad/textpad then it is showing the Japanese characters properly but when we are opening the file from excel(which is our requirement) then the data is not coming properly.
I am copying the data below directly from the excel sheet. CLIENT_NAME_LOCAL(NVARCHAR2 field) is the field which captures japanese. It can be seen that the data for the FUND_CODE=811018 is correctly coming but for 809985 it is seen that the CLIENT_NAME_LOCAL and FUND_CODE columns are getting concatenated with a ・ sign in the middle and so in the FUND_CODE column the FROM_DATE value is coming, though the delimition ',' can be seen between the two fields when I'm opening the file from notepad. It is to be noted that I've used the CONVERT function in my query after this to change the CLIENT_NAME_LOCAL column to 'JA16SJIS' characterset but nothing got changed.
N.B- I've copy and paste the data from excel so in the html format it seems that the FUND_CODE and FROM_DATE values are on the same vertical line but it is not so.

You can open UTF-8 files in excel:
1. change file extension to .txt
2. in excel: Open/File -> point to your file
3. excel opens file convert dialog, in "file origin" field choose: "65001:Unicode (UTF-8)"
4. proceed with other setting - You got it!
This procedure work for sure in Excel 2003

Loading data from excel to BPS layout

Hi,
I have BPS layouts in place and also excel sheets which are exact replica of those layouts.
I know 2 options to load excel data into the BPS. These are:
1) Copy and paste the data from excel to BPS layout.
2) Create a flat file in line format from excel and then use method explained in document "How to Load a Flat File into BW-BPS Using SAPGUI.pdf".
Is there any other way I can upload the same?
Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.

Thanks to Vlad, Laurent & Srini for prompt replies.
But here the user needs to load data directly to the transactional cube.
So it is a case of "instead of keying in values" on to the BPS planning layout, user wants to upload the data from excel into the BPS layout.
Planning is done on SAP GUI and not web browser.
I am able to do the same using the document "How to Load a Flat File into BW-BPS Using SAPGUI".
But in this case the data needs to be converted into a simple csv file in line item format before it can be uploaded.
Is there any way, where we can upload from excel file without having it to change to csv format as required in "How to Load a Flat File into BW-BPS Using SAPGUI"?

New line duplicated when import from Excel

An SQL server (2014) field of type nvarchar(MAX) is populated directly by pasting data copied from Excel.
In corresponding Excel cell there are several "\r\n" (CR/LF), but after pasting it seems like each "\r\n" is duplicated. How to paste and get the same number of "\r\n" as the originating cell value ?

Actually I used SSIS import (by starting the wizard from Management Studio: Right click Database and choosing Tasks/Import Data... which starts DTSWizard.
So the problem was actually showing up when using SSIS import...
On the other hand, when directly pasting the same data (by using something like Management Studio, right click Table and choosing "Edit Top 200 rows"), only the first line (the text before the first "\r\n") is kept and prepended by a
double quotation mark (") which is a loss of data and of course an even bigger issue.
And silly me, my statement was wrong again (and all the time).
I was fooled by C# (theStringFromDatabase.Split("\r\n".ToCharArray());) actually returned with the empty strings (lines) between the "real" lines, don't understand why though.

Hyperlink from Excel to Beehive Online

I created an excel navigator with some links from Excel to Beehive online a few months ago.
It has stopped workiing in the meantime, even though I know I have not made any changes to my links. This is not just happening on my PC, it is occurring on at least 2 other PC's that I am aware of.
Can anyone advise me?

The BeehiveOnline system has been regularly upgraded over the last few months - the change from 1.5 to 2.0 would have changed the workspaces URL to teamcollab - maybe that has broken the link. Why not start again and replace the links with the correct ones from the current system?
Do the links work in a browser and not in excel?
