Pasteboard color in Normal View mode

I know I can change the color of the pasteboard when in preview mode, but does anyone know of a way I can change the color of the pasteboard when in normal view? Or a way to have white-filled objects/text pop-up off the white pasteboard?
(The white is great, but when working with a lot of reversed copy, dealing with frame edges across multiple text boxes can become confusing and having to switch between color and white text can be tedious)

This is a total workaround:
Go to the master page for the document.
Draw a frame that covers the whole pasteboard.
Draw a smaller frame that is slightly larger than the pages for the master.
Select the two frames that you just drew.
Choose Object > Paths > Make Compound Path.
Apply a light color to this object. This object will color the pasteboard for all pages that use this master. Duplicate for any other pages.
Optional steps
Put this object on its own layer. This allows you to turn this color on or off.
Set the layer as non-printing. This object shouldn't print because it doesn't touch the pages, but if you're paranoid, set it not to print.
Save as a snippet that can be dragged onto other documents.

  • Why are line graphics not showing up in Preview Mode when they show in Normal view mode?

I am using CS4, I've used InDesign for 4 years. I can not figure out why this is happening...
From the Tools panel, I am using the line and circle tools. Drawing lines (arrows) and circles on my document, with a stroke weight of 1. The lines are the top item on my page, the last thing I draw. I draw lines that would go over not only other graphics, but over text as well.
Problem is that they only show up in Normal view, not Preview view. Hence, I don't think they will show up on the final document.
I've used these tools often, and the lines not showing is a new problem. Can anyone shed some light on why this might be happening?
    Thanks, Louise

I looked and yes "nonprinting" was ticked in the Attributes panel.  THANK YOU :-)
I knew there had to be a simple solution and I was so frustrated it was eluding me.
    Thanks again.

  • I've customized my Firefox in full screen mode by clicking on full screen option. Now I'm not getting it back in normal mode even after restarting firefox and even restarting my system. How could I get it back in normal display mode? Thanks !

    yeah it worked.... Thanks... :)

  • Normal blend mode + transparency

I've searched around for help on what happens to create the resulting pixel color when normal blending mode is used in conjunction with transparency. Most of the sources I've read simply say that there is no blending in normal mode. Clearly, that can't be true when the top layer has some transparency applied. Sure, we interpret that as no blending. Our brains see it as a simple overlay. But two pixels of different color are displayed in the same location. Some kind of mixing is going on to display the result. What's happening?
Thanks for your help. I know this is purely academic, but it's gnawing at me.

Have You tried simply running a test with some Solid Fill-layers?
The resulting values for the channels seem pretty simple to calculate if the lower layer is solid:
    resultingValue = lowerValue * ((100 - upperOpacity) / 100) + upperValue * (upperOpacity / 100)

  • Applying star rating/color label to "Current Pick" in Stack View mode

Is it possible to apply a star rating/color label to the "Current Pick" in Stack View Mode? Thanks.

is there a way of applying both the five-star rating, AND the green color label at the same time, with one keyboard shortcut, or otherwise?
If you need to do this in exactly one action, then I don't think there is a way to do this. Of course, if you want to accomplish this in two actions, you can select all the 5 star images, and then apply the Green color label to them all in one step, but that isn't what you asked for.
Is there any way to make my five-star rated photos more visually prominent in the grid view?
    Not that I know of
ANother thought is to create a smart collection of your 5 star images, and then you can use the smart collection to view the 5-star images (none of the other images will appear)

  • Any way to get frame accurate in icon view mode?

Does anyone know if there is a way set frame accurate in points in icon view mode?  I know that if you are "hover scrubbing" a clip, and then click on it you can use the JKL keys to shuttle through the footage.  But is there any way to go frame-by-frame through the footage as well?
I ask because I have a 4-camera shoot where the clips were synced by a slate clap.  I'd like to make a multicam clip from the shots so am going through and setting the "clap" as the in point of each clip, and then using them as sync points for the multicam clip.  I hover scrub to the general area of the slate clap (works great) then use the JKL key to narrow in "clap" even more (also works great).  However, it is nearly impossible to stop exactly on the frame where the slate hits using the JKL keys.  So I would like to get in the general vicinity using JKL, and then use some other keys or method to get to the exact frame of the "clap".  One would assume that the arrow keys would do this, but they don't.
Does anyone know if there is a way to accomplish this?  Thanks in advance for any help.

I understand your point, and it never ocurred to me that I part of my normal workflow when doing things like that to more than a few clips is to select all of the clips and put them all in the Source Monitor with a single command. (Select them all, right click, and select "Open in Source Monitor".) So I don't go back and forth between windows. I guess I have been doing it so long I missed that step in the explanation. Sorry about that. Also, please understand that I skipped CS4 and CS5 so when I started using CS6 I have never really been comfortable with the hover scrub for anything serious. Not yet anyway.
I figure that all of the clips will end up in the Source Monitor anyway before they hit the timeline, so why not put them up there and as I finish with each one I close that window and start on the next one.
Those of us who go back to when Premiere became Premiere Pro have been waiting for some of these features a very long time. Slap-your-head it might be to you or me, but Adobe only has so much money to pay engineers and there is always something more important to work on. Like becoming codec agnostic or handling huge frame sizes. Adobe has borrowed many features from FCP, but it is still a work in progress. We just submit feature requests and attempt to convince others to do the same. You can't imagine how much time we spent a decade ago getting people to create the proper sequence. Now you just drag a clip to the New Item button and your sequence is perfect. That is magic to someone like me, who taught people how to use Premiere Pro 1.5 by copying FCP tutorials and recreating them in Premiere Pro (for Lynda.com) using the same footage.
Jim Simon is often quite vocal about things he would rather see done that some of the requests. I agree with him most of the time, but every now and then a little thing I think should be done is not on his list and he will let me know in no uncertain terms why he thinks what he thinks. He can be pretty persuasive and it is difficult to argue with his logic. The Adobe folks read these forums, yes, but they read the feature requests and look to see how many customers want certain things done. Not a bad way to prioritize. Now that more FCP people will be submitting requests, there is a good chance that you will see more features that you want.
So, while it may be obvious to you, it isn't obvious to Adobe until the masses speak. I suggest that you might want to consider being a rabble rouser, getting like minded people to put in the same requests. That is probably the best way to get what you want.
As for going in reverse.... I think that if you have never had some of these things, they are not important to you. They are not all like adding reverse. Some are but some of these are like the tailfin on the 1959 Caddilac. The higher the better back then. But are they necessary?

  • In normal view, half the page disappears off right of screen. in full screen this does not happen. what can be done to correct the screen ratio for normal screen?

version 5 loaded on windows 7. all went well for a while. one day while using, ratio of normal screen doubled in width; i.e. half the page disappears off the screen to the right (on a wide screen). when full screen mode applied, ratio is fine. it only happens in normal view, which is the usually prefered option. I cannot determine any means within the program to resize the normal screen. nothing else is affected, only mozilla firefox in normal view. not that when program is opened from keyboard the page is correct for a moment, then enlarges the width with 1/2 page dissappearing.

This issue can be caused by the Babylon Toolbar 1.1.8 extension

  • Firefox 3.6 starts in taskbar mode, not normal screen mode

Firefox opens only as an item on the Windows taskbar, instead of in "normal" screen mode. I then have to click on the taskbar item to get Firefox to open in normal screen mode.
By normal screen mode, I mean the mode where Firefox fills up part of the computer screen and Firefox can then be resized or moved around the screen as one desires. I am not talking about opening Firefox in what is variously called "full screen," F11, or maximized mode --- and I do not want Firefox opening in such a mode.
I have a wide screen monitor which I use to open and view several software programs at the same time, something which is very handy when you want to compare information from a program on one's computer with information from a Web site, and I need Firefox to open in normal screen mode to permit me to do this multiple program viewing.
I have tried the following plugins , but they either do not solve my problem, or only allow me to start Firefox in full screen mode:
    - AutoHide
    - Full Fullscreen
    - FullerScreen
I have tried searching the Firefox help database, and have done a more general internet search using Google, and have not found any information on this problem.
Is there a Firefox configuration setting I can make to direct Firefox to always open in normal screen mode?

Reply to Cor-el's June 6th message: I created a desktop shortcut and tested it a few times, both various times during computer sessions and a few times just after I had powered up my desktop computer. The shortcut always opens Firefox in "normal screen mode." I also tested opening Firefox from the Start button menu item I have had for several years. The menu item also always opens Firefox in "normal screen mode."
It is only when I use the Web/Home button on the Microsoft internet keyboard that Firefox opens in "taskbar mode." Also, this problem has only been occuring for the past 6 or 7 months. Before that, I could always open Firefox 3 in "normal screen mode" using the Web/Home button.
Note to the other eight people who also indicated they have this problem: My version of the problem seems to be with Firefox's interaction with the software for the Microsoft internet keyboard. I would appreciate it if you could post a reply to this discussion informing everyone whether you have this Firefox startup problem when you use a dedicated keyboard key, or if you have the startup problem when you use just a desktop shortcut or a Start button menu item. Thank you.

  • When running Firefox with normal view with bookmarks and tabs the display for the tab is jumping up and down about 1/4 of inch - display is ok if used in full screen but when go back to normall havers again. this ony started happening last night after

Am having problems with display hovering in open tabs. I used Full screen last night when browsing for first time and since then when I go back to normal view the window shakes up and down about 1/4 inch and have to go to full screen for steady view. The toolbars are all steady it is only the web page.

Do you have any saved bookmarks on the Bookmarks Toolbar, or that that Toolbar empty and you have it being displayed??
Try opening View > Toolbars and click on the Bookmark Toolbar item to remove the check-mark, and then see how that affects that "jumping" or vertical oscillation of the UI.
If that doesn't solve your problem, you can try the Firefox SafeMode and verify that problem doesn't exist in that troubleshooting mode.

  • 70D Live View Mode Not Working

All of a sudden Live View Mode doesn't work on my 70D.  Setting is enabled.  Pictures show on my screen for a few seconds after it's taken, but screen is black while taking pictures even when shutter release button pressed down half way.  Any ideas on why this might be happening?

Is exposure stimulation turn on/off? does the photo taken look dark? You can try to reset it to factory default.

  • Bring stripes in list view mode please!

I don't know what happened! I lost the stripes (the alternated light blue line) in list view mode in Finder and in Mail and iTunes and every program that uses some sort of list view.
I tried to use this command
$ defaults write com.apple.finder FXListViewStripes -bool TRUE
    $ killall Finder
but it didn't work... please help it's driving me nuts

Ok now the strangest things is that the stripes appear when i switch in dashboard, and they disappaear once the shadow of dashboard is gone. It's crazy, the stripes appear only if a shadow is over them. Even in a picture of a supposed striped list view, the light blue color doesn't appear until i use dashboard (I'm starting to think there's something wrong with the graphic card rather than finder)

  • Is there a way to make InCopy open all documents in normal screen mode, always?

Is there a way to make InCopy open all documents in normal screen mode, always?
Now it opens in the screen mode the InDesign page is in when checked in. We don't want that.
    Thanks,
    Frederik

No, there's no way to get rid of it in InCopy.  InCopy opens layouts in the mode the InDesign user saved them, including Normal vs. Preview, Frame edges showing or not, Hidden characters showing or not, and so on.
You could try asking the designers to switch to Normal view before saving the INDD file.  Or you could assign a keyboard shortcut to the Normal view in InCopy and tell everyone to use that. We're on Macs so we use Control-N for Normal and Control-Shift-N for Preview.

  • Soft Proof view mode problem for MOAB Slickrock Metallic Pearl Paper

I use the Soft Proof mode in Lightroom (LR) for editing printed output, and use either custom color profiles that I make (Spyder Print) or profiles supplied by the paper manufacturer.  This feature works very well, much like the Custom View mode in Photoshop (PS).  MOAB/Legion makes a neat paper called Slickrock Mettalic Pearl, that mimics the old Cibachrome prints, and the supply a color profile that works well in PS.  However, when I toggle on the Soft Proof mode using this profile in LR, the image goes completely white, except for deep blacks which show up as bright green.  When I actually make the print from LR, the print comes out okay, but there's no way to know if it's true to the proof view, since the proof view is unusable.
Viewing, editing and printing the same image in Photoshop (PS) 5.1 works fine.  Editing and printing when view mode (Proof Setup > Custom) is to the same profile produces a print that's true to the proof view.   So it seems that the problem is between LR and the .icc file.  Here's the link to the profile file:  Go to MOAB Slickrock Metallic Pearl Epson R2400 EPL.icc.
