Pasteboard size is huge when I create a new document

When I create a new document or open an old document in InDesign CS4, the pasteboard is huge. For example creating an 8.5x11 document results in a pasteboard that is 36 inches wide buy 12 inches high. I have read all the solutions posed in other threads and none of them help restore the pasteboard to a reasonable size.
I typically create a document with 0,0,0,0 for margins. Minimum vertical offset for pasteboard in preferences in 1 in.
I uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign but the problem is still there. The problem is global (any and all documents i open).
Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?

Are you sure facing pages wasn't selected when you created the document? How many pages are there?
The standard pasteboard dimension is 25.5" wide for non-facing 8.5" wide pages. As far as being a waste of space, you'd be surprised at how often you might need to move a page-wide object onto the pasteboard and still have the ability to see or edit the whole thing.

When I create a new document and close it the icon is not visible in the finder until I do a search. Then it shows up. I can't move it to other locations.

So where have you saved it to?
When you search for a file that is a search result not actually a folder.
The real location of the file should be shown in a chain of nested folders along the bottom of that window and you can open the folder that the file is in by double clicking on the enclosing folder's icon.
You need to pay attention to where you are saving files or you will have trouble opening the correct one later.

If you have come from Windows the method of saving, finding and organising files is not too dissimilar.

When I create a new document in inches, with the ppi set to 300 in advanced settings, my document is still calculating at 72ppi. How do I change that?

When I try to create a document at 6in x 4in and ppi is set to 300, when i flip to pixels it should be 1800px x 1200px. But its not, it is calculating the dimensions at 72ppi. Why?!?

You are getting entagled in the two confusing meanings of the term pixels, namely as a unit identical to points and equalling 1/72 inch, and the basic component of raster images (and effects).

Crashes when I create a new document

When I open the Flash CS4 application, it starts up fine. If I select create new flash file, the entire application crashes. That's as far as I can get. I've made all of the recent updates that I can - it's flash version 10.0.2 … I'm running OSX v10.4.11
I've tried restarting, that doesn't do anything. I've also tried starting up Flash with nothing else open. Doesn't help. Haven't re-installed the entire thing yet (probably what I'll do next).
Any suggestions?

Illustrator CS4 opens but won't create a new document

Hi,
I've got an Illustrator CS4 problem. I can launch Illustrator CS4 and it launches quite happily. However, when i create a new document nothing happens. When I open a document nothing happens. I'm a local admin on my PC. It's running Windows XP SP3. I've re-installed Illustrator to see if that fixed the problem but it didn't. I have Photosop CS4 on and it opens documents etc without a problem.

If you cannot create new docs, it doesn't see its templates, most likely. For whatever reason they are either really not there or simpyl blocked by the operating system due to permission issues. At least one of them must exist or else the dialog won't open up. Check the program directory (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS4\Support Files\Required\New Document Profiles) and your user home directory. Other than that it could of course always be more generic graphics card problems...

When to Create a New SC

We have five applications to create this year, and a debate has arisen regarding how many SC's to create. Three of the applications relate to Operations; one to HR; one to IT. The three Operations applications are un-related to each other. When I read the documentation, it appears that we should be creating 5 SC's, one for each application, as none are related by functionality - they are NOT "functionally-related development objects". Development and implementation will take place at different times, as well.
So, the question: how do we determine when to create a new SC? What are the rules or guidelines to follow?

Generally, the size of an SC u2013 that is the number of DCs it contains u2013 is not limited. The size
does not even influence the speed of the build process, because the DCs are the units for the
build process.
One exception is the assembly process, in which the entire SC is built.
In the following cases, you need more than one SC:
1) The installation is carried out on different platforms.
The J2EE part of your application is to be installed on the SAP NetWeaver and
another part as a standalone client application.
2) There are different delivery and maintenance cycles.
You should not mix Portal Business packages you develop with applications,
because the portal content is updated more often than the functions of the
application.
3) You use layered development
A framework component should be developed and tested before the dependent
part of the software.
4) There are technical reasons.
-You want to deliver some product parts together with the source files (to allow
modifications) and others as archives only. The setting of whether to deliver SCs
with or without source files is made in the CMS on the SC level.
-You want to define different build variants for different groups of DCs.
According me, your thought of creating 5 different SCs sounds logical.

When I create a new file with 500px wide by 500px long it shows up on my screen as a rectangle.

When I create a new file with 500px wide by 500px long it shows up on my screen as a rectangle. When I go to Image > Image Size it still shows the image as 500 x 500 yet it is clearly not a square. This also occurs if I try to create a circle, selecting the ellipse tool a checking the box for it to make a perfect circle it shows up as an oval.
I have Photoshop CS6 on a macbook.
Any help would be appreciated, I consider myself decently knowledgeable in Photoshop and I've looked through the settings, but I can't seem to figure out the issue, it's been happening for a while now, it's not a one-time fluke thing.

All of a sudden I noticed that most of the folders on my computer were no longer using the folder icon, but the generic document icon. I had to manually change back the icon being used by opening Get Info for each folder and copying and pasting the generic folder icon from some folders that remained unchanged. Now whenever I create a New Folder (right click -> "New Folder"), the icon that shows up is the generic document icon (white page with top right corner turned down). And I have to manually change it so it shows up as a folder in Finder or on my desktop. I don't know why or how this switch happened. All of the folders now on my computer look ok, but I need to change the default so when I create a New Folder it uses the correct icon.
I have also Forced Relaunch of my Finder and rebooted the system. I downloaded Candybar but am not sure what will fix anything, so I haven't proceeded.

If you have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar

I have tried changing the way tabs work in Options but nothing checked or unchecked results in the specific way i want to have new Windows open and STAY on that newly created Window and not be YANKED back to the window i duplicated.

The original window did not have a Flash object, but does the window that hides itself contain a Flash object? That is the usual pattern for this bug in the plugin's protected mode feature.

When a new album is created it will fill with whatever is in the right hand window, If you're in the Events or Photos mode it will contain all photos in the library. Yes, strange behavior.

Unfortunately, the uncertainty arising from the rounding has been up several times here in this forum.
I just came to remember a warning that needs to be given:
The rounding of the representation of a numerical value may be harmless in itself, but if you use it for any operation that changes the value, such as multiplication or whatever, things will go wrong because the operation will be made on the basis of the rounded value instead of the true value. So, as in your first case in post #2, 39.625 rounded to 39.63 will become 79.26 instead of 79.25.

According to your post, my understanding is that the user could not create a document library.
To narrow down whether the issue is related to the user permission, you can check which permission the user has.
You can also assign the user full control to check whether it works.
What’s more, did the issue occur in other sites? You can check with other sites or create a new site to check whether it works. Maybe the site has been corrupted.
To quickly and accurately find the issue, I recommend you can check the event log and ULS log to see if anything unexpected occurred.
For SharePoint 2010, by default, ULS log is at
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS
You can check the ULS log by the methods here:
