Pasted text is always plain

Hi folks,
Whenever I paste a section of text into a message from, say, a website that has been formatted a certain way, Mail always turns it into plain text. I checked the compose preferences and it says that it's on Rich Text Format. I can change the formatting once it's imported but it's a bit of a hassle. Any suggestions?

Hi Johnny,
It likely won't work from a Website, since you're only seeing/copying the text, not the hidden HTML.
Try pasting it into Text Edit with Paste & Match Style to test what is really being copied.
Only workaround I can see is viewing the Source and copying the HTML also.

Pasting text from other apps not always work

Is this a known problem or any way to avoid it? I usually receive emails with copy of text that was already checked for spelling errors, and when I try to copy the text from the email to AE and paste it into the text tool, it does not work 90% of the time, and if it works, it works only once, the next time I copy paste something it keeps always pasting the same old text. I noticed this on all the computers where I have AE installed.

Just a quick update.
This problem has resurfaced AE CS6 (mac OS 10.8.x) this time.
The copy/paste into the search bar doesn't seem to work anymore.
I sent Aobde a note via their Bug/reports page - - (I'd suggest everyone do that.)
So far, my only working solution is to quit/restart AE. --
A shame for any 21st century software not to copy/paste formatted, or unformatted text.
(BTW - the copy/paste text from within AE comps/layers works fine, just not clipboard content from outside . . . I'm going to poke around at a few likely culprits and attempt to troubleshoot a solution for my needs, but I can say it's a different problem than my Oct. 2010 post above.)

Is there some 3rd party utility that will always paste text as plaintext?

There's no need for one... most apps that support styled text will have a "Paste and Match Style" option in the Edit menu, which essentially strips the formatting from the text in the clipboard before pasting it (which, of course, causes it to match the formatting of the text you're pasting it into).

Can't paste text in a Web-started application

I am facing a problem with a limited (but growing) number of users: they are
unable to paste a block of text into a text field. Apparently the problem
occurs in Windows 7 only that seems to isolate the Web-start application into
a sandbox. What is strange is that the application is signed and requires
full access to resources. Since I am not a windows 7 user I can't reproduce
the problem, also with other Windows 7 users things work fine, what's curious.
I can't determine if the program would also be trapped in other I/O operation
cause registration (for which paste is needed) is first step and user can't
proceed any more.
Did anybody else have incur in the same problem. Do anybody know what user
shall do to unlock the paste operation?
I am sure there is some solution otherwise any RIA application deployed with
Java Web Start would be excluded by all future (Windows 7) market, but I don't
know what to tell my user to proceed.

I think I spotted the problem, but unhappily got no confirmation from user (despite my kind request to perform a new test with modified code). The issue is probably not related Windows 7 but to the kind of mail program is used to "cut" the text. Some mail program encode it as plain text, others as rich text and still others (like Firebird I use) as html. I perceived this using your code and I was surprised (I was expecting text/plain). This explains why only certain users report the problem.
What is strange is that Java, under JNLP is unable to convert text/xxxx to text/plain when pasting in a text component, as it does if desktop-started. I am already sure it is text/xxxx because in a previous situation I asked user to perform a paste into a notepad and it worked fine, it doesn't paste only into a JText component. Probably when Java is not webstart-launched it uses native conversion and when web-started it considers MIME type. If not plain text returns an empty string.
I basically used your code, but considered only first MIME type and, if not text, I reject paste and ask user to go though a plain text editor. In my case it does not make sense trying to manage HTML or RTF: that would be an overkill.
Let's wait and see next case, anyway the inability to paste text/xxxx into text components this is a considerable limitation of web-started programs.
The good news I discovered during tests is that (apart new logo), deployment has really improved, at least timestamp is correctly handled. Until few months ago I had to start the application 2-3 times to have jnlp perceived that some jar were updated.

Problems copying and pasting text on Ipad

since updating to iOS 8, when I use the Touch and hold copy function to copy text, it sometimes pastes the correct text and sometimes pastes text that I had copied a long time ago.
For example, I touch and hold some text until the black "copy" option appears, I copy an address from eg. Mail and paste it into Maps and it might work, but when I then copy a different text like a name and paste it, it will paste the address from before.
It seems to be completely random regardless of which apps I am copying from or pasting to. Any answers would be appreciated!

Yep, it's a feature that Apple announced called "Intelligent Text Selection". It's supposed to make it easier to copy columns of paragraphs of text from a multi-column document and keep the paragraphs in the right order when pasted into a new document.
It works perfectly if you actually have a newsletter or other multi-column document and want the paragraphs to stay in order. You are seeing an unintended result. The new "Advanced Artificial Intelligence" is not properly analyzing your document.
Intelligent text selection has been added in Preview. This has to do with the app's ability to select text in PDFs. In the current version of Mac OS X, selecting text in PDFs is not always logical. For example, if you have three text columns and just need to select the text in one of them, you may not be able to do it. "Advanced artificial intelligence" included with Snow Leopard "analyzes each PDF document to understand the structure of its words, paragraphs, columns, and visual layout and create a map of the document’s organization," Apple reveals. "Preview uses this information to help you accurately target the text you want to copy and paste, even if the text is in columns."
It would be nice to be able to turn this 'feature' off:

Cp5 - Pasting text from Notepad into a text box

I posted this message in the "Getting Started Forum" but there isn't a whole lot of activity in that forum.
Hopefully someone can help me because I have a lot of text to paste into a lesson.
This seems like such an elementary requirement and I am almost certain that I have done this before but...for some reason, copying text from Windows Notepad into a Captivate 5 text box just isn't working today.
Basically, the paste option is simply not available!
Yes, I can copy paste into other applications; Captivate is the only application that is blocking this Windows function.
If I insert a Text Entry Box, I am able to paste single lines of text (from Notepad) but obviously this isn't going to work as a text box.
Is this by design or has something gone haywire?

I have had that happen to me too. I am always copying and pasting into my Captivate projects. But sometimes the paste option is just not available. What I have done, is to save everything and close the application and start it again. Seems there's a lot of little irritating things like that with Captivate, that's corrected with a restart. I tried to paste text from another site into my Firebox document, but it says "Firefox does not support Copy & Paste". How do I enable clipboard? I never had problems like this on Firefox before...why?

I tried to paste text I copied from another site into my Notepad++ (as I've always done in the past with no problem).

Pasting text from word replaces Keynote styles

I get documents that are styled in Word that I have to convert to Keynote. Even though my text boxes are styled in the Master Slides, when I copy and paste text from word it comes in with all of word's formatting and disregard's Keynote's styling for that text box. I tried to convert the word docs to rtf or just plain text, but the text just imports without Keynote's styling applied to it. It would be very tedious to have to style each text box as I bring it in to Keynote. Does anyone have any suggestions to make the workflow less painful?

How to auto-style the pasted text at Keynote?

Currently I'm preparing a presentation via Keynote but there is a problem. I gathered information from my friends as .txt and .docx files. I've chosen the "Leather Book" template. When I paste the text from the .docx file, color and font of the text doesn't change to match the "Leather Book" template. However,.txt files seem to be okay. They just take the style of template. Is there an easy way to automatically convert the style of text to match the template's default style?

Thanks for answering. I've just figured it out And for those who struggle with the same problem,there is another way I found out: Open the document with Pages, File> Export> Plain Text. When you save the file as plain text,you can just copy and paste without using "paste and match style".

I'm using Firefox w/ Yahoo Mail on a Mac. When I try to copy/paste text in the body of the emai, it thinks I'm inserting a picture & all kinds of little text boxes appear. What can I do to get rid of all the little text boxes?

Never got a warning that this apps do not work In my language. They are available in my country's AppStore and that was the reason I bought the iPad.

All iWork apps, both for iOS and OS X, have always had bugs that make them unsuitable for RTL scripts for most purposes. The only solution is to use something else.

I have difficulty pasting text into the file name field (prefix only) while saving files. example: File name is Pic123.jpg and I want to rename it ABC123.jpg and I have ABC loaded into the WinXPsp3 clipboard. When I highlight\right-click\delete "Pic" then attempt to paste the ABC, I get either no reaction, or upon multiple paste attempts, the ABC is appended to the end of the file, after the extension, as "Pic123.jpgABC". If I delete this unwanted suffix, or repeat the process several times, eventually I can delete the unwanted portion of the prefix and paste the desired text. Sometimes it works fine first try, but mostly it takes several tries. I'm using Firefox 3.6.3 but the problem existed in whatever previous version I had too. This issue only occurs when using the delete/paste; I can always manually change the name by typing. Thank you for your help.

Copying and pasting text inserts

Hi all,
When creating certain projects, I like to use the same font size, colour, style etc throughout the whole project. So I would love to be able to copy a text insert and then paste it many times into other parts of the project, thereby only having to change the text content. At the moment I can't seem to be able to do this and its a bit frustrating having to set up each text insert from scratch every time.
Years ago I used an old Windows-based video editing package called 'Arcsoft'. It is light years behind iMovie in so many respects but it did allow you to copy and paste text inserts which was really helpful.
Can anyone advise me? Is there something I am missing?

Pasting text into InD CS5 crashes after upgrading to Mountain Lion

I upgraded my iMac to Mountain Lion over the weekend and since have problems with InDesign CS5 crashing when I paste text from one InD document to another.

In-place upgrades are always a crapshoot. Try trashing the prefs (see Replace Your Preferences), but most likely you'll have to reinstall ID at the very least. YOu may have to do a clean install on the OS as well.

Captivate 7 Widget Copy/Pasting Text Creates Double Text

I'm using Captivate 7 on a Mac OS X.9 machine and every time we use a Insert>Interaction and have to paste text from either a Word doc or plain text document the text double pastes into the Interaction Widget. This causes issues because its difficult to edit text in the small widget area. Also, once pasted the Widget removes all the paragraph spacing.

We understand not to copy text from Word which is why we copy it from Word, paste it into a plain text document to remove all formatting, then paste it into the Interaction. It still pastes in double. This has happened in the following types and it is only a MAC issue. We can replicate it on two Macs in the office but not on any Windows machines.
We do use Full Screen but its still small and I have a very large screen.
Accordian, Tabs, Process Circle, Timeline, Circle Matrix, Pyramid (both), Glossary. These are the ones we have used/tested.
