Pasting a set of pixels

Hi
I'd like to paste a set of pixels into a layer, but when i try and do this using the rectangular marque tool it creates another layer over the top of the one I'm trying to paste into. Is there anyway of pasting the pixels into the same layer?

Doing Edit - Paste Into with a selection present causes the creation of a new layer with the selection creating a layer mask to allow the data pasted to be visible only in the previously selected area. You can then move it around and merge it into the layer below as you desire.
That's the way it's designed to work.
The "Into" part of "Paste Into" refers to pasting "into the selection", which is what you get with the process noted above, not "into a layer".

Howdy, I'm copying from indesign and pasting intophotoshop, and the 'pixels' keep shifting--I'm using points as the measurement in inDesign and would think they would translate to the PS pixels but not so much. Is there a setting to turn of anti-alaising or something on paaste? Are the units of measurment just a hair of enough different that it causes issues?

just sorted it out...
Seems my default in PS for placing the object from the clipboard is set to W: 101.7% H: 110.0% instead of 100%/100%.
Putting it back to 100% fixed it.

After restoring my ipad from itunes, I can't get past the set up screen

How do I get past the set up screen after restoring a new iPad 2 from an iTunes backup. I'd like to sync my apps on my iTunes to my iPad.

I can't change my Apple ID. It would mess all my stuff up.

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone (if you're using iOS 7), then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

Normally, I would suggest restoring the iPad and uninstall and reinstall iTunes but you have done both of those things - more times than you ever imagined!
Have you thought about turning auto syncing off?
Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
If you do this you can backup the iPad right away before it syncs. You may want to go into all of the iTunes tabs and just make sure that all of the current content on the iPad is selected to sync before you actually do sync.
This doesn't solve the problem, but it would prevent the automatic sync and erasing content. Hopefully, in the next few days- when iOS 5 is released - you will also be relieved of this weird iPad behavior - since the iOS devices are supposed to become PC free.
BTW - and this is no excuse for what you are experiencing, but I have found that some of the game apps that I had on my iPad turned out to be quite troublesome and after I removed them, my problems went away. I know that is almost sacrilege with regard to the Angry Birds addiction .... But I'm just saying ...

You need to set up an iCloud account before you can back it up. And you back it up directly from the device - iCloud.com has nothing to do with it. Follow the instructions in the link below to set up your iCloud account and to set up Automatic Backups:

How to paste exposure setting to multiple images

Hi all:
I know this question has probably been asked many times but I couldn't find any answer using the search so please be patient with me. :)
I came from the world of RawShooter Premium and I realized that my version of RSP can't read RAW file from the Canon 30D so I got the Adobe Lightroom to process my images. All is well until I decide to paste the exposure setting from one image to multiple images. I know there is a copy and paste button in the "develop" mode but it doesn't paste the settings (color temp, exposure, noise, etc) to all the images even when I highlighted the images I want to paste. I can do that in RSP, which save a lot of time.
Can anyone shed some light on this? I would really appreciate it.

In develop, copy and paste only works on the selected image. You can sync or auto sync (control-sync) there.
If you want to copy and paste to multiple images using shift-control-C and shift-control-V, you can do that in grid mode.

How to set a pixel to certain value in a Graphic object.

I want to set a certain point in a graphic context to a new Color value let say i have a point (x, y)=(100, 100)
and i have a JFrame window i can do like this
Graphics g = getGraphics();
Now i want to set the point(100, 100) to a new Color say red.
Please tell me how to do that.

I was wondering about this earlier today too...
you can use Graphics.drawLine with the startpoint and the endpoint equal to draw a dot on that pixel, but this seems like overkill.

How do I write a script to set maximum pixel dimensions?

I need to batch process JPGs and limit the maximum dimension to 500 px. This has to apply to the largest side of the image, either height or width. The other side should auto size proportionately. I'm currently having to make these size changes manually. I haven't found any script language or function that will let me set the largest pixel size to 500 px, regardless of which dimension is the largest.
Example:
1. If the image is 1000 px w x 750 px h, I want the script to resize the image proportionately for the largest side, changing the width to 500 px
2. If the image is 750 px w x 1000 px h, I want the script to change the height to 500 px and the proportions conform accordingly for the width
Any ideas are grately welcomed.

Using CS4 - in the past PS set up a file for images saved for "web

I am using PS and Dreamweaver CS4. In the past, when saving an image for "web and devices", PS set up a separate file for saved images which then showed up in Dreamweaver. I have somehow lost PS in Dreamweaver. Instead, Photoshop puts the saved image back into the original file.PS is grayed out in Dreamweaver so cannot connect back to any images from Dreamweaver either. How do I get back to preferences I originally set up for saving images for web and devices. I have Windows XP Professional.

Save For Web is an Export, not a Save. That distinction means it saves out a copy, leaving the original as it was. The export destination is set in the SFW dialog, and is sticky. The next time it exports to the same location unless you change it again.
So you just need to point Dreamweaver to where your SFW exports go. That's all.
(Disclaimer - I don't use DW, but I assume it works like any other software).

How do I set up pixels and resolution to print out my illustration?

I want to print my illustration which I'm going to paint on Photoshop 5 to the size of 8x10(inch) at Walgreens.com. How do I set up the pixels and resolutions in Photoshop to start with?
There was a guideline at Walgreens Photo site, and it says "Minimum Recommended Image Resolution for 8x10 (inch) is 900x720 pixels." But when I set up the width and height of pixels to 900x720 and resolution at 360 and then painted there, the print outcome was chopped off at top and bottom (I selected 8x10 print size.)
How can I set up the right way so I can print right?

OK, it says minimum requirements. Which makes sense, the quality would be horrible below 112 ppi.
8" x 200ppi = 1600px
10" x 200ppi = 2000px
900px / 8" = 112.5ppi
720px / 10" = 72ppi
Can you see in the above math why part of the picture would be chopped off.
Lets do it this way:
900px / 72ppi = 12.5"
720px / 72ppi = 10"
900px / 360ppi = 2.5"
720px / 360pp = 2"
10" X 360ppi = 3600px
8" X 360ppi = 2880px
If you specify ppi you must specify the physical dimensions (inches) Especially when the printed paper is a known variable. The pixel dimensions they mentioned was a guideline not a requirement. They only wanted to make sure the quality did not fall below that value.
