Pasting and keeping inside coordinates

Again. I know it has been discussed several places recently, and there are some workarounds or ways to achieve same coordinates when pasting inside a frame.
However I had in an earlier version a script "PasteInto CS3" which pasted frame and picture and afterwards deleted the pasted frame.
The thread "paste into command in InDesign cs3 doesn’t remember X/Y coordinates" referred to:

However I cannot search or find the thread. I never made the script work in CS5 as for deleting the pasted frame (deleting the source frame and keeping the picture in the new host frame).
I think this would be the easiest way.

Thank you Peter, but it didn't help.
If I copy the source image using the direct selection tool the script tells me:
"Sorry, this paste into script needs a picture and it’s frame to be copied"
And if I use the Selection tool it tells me:
"Sorry, the link to the copied frame is missing. Please update the link and try again"
- and, no link is missing.
Do you have any ideas?

Can I paste and keep the same columns and rows?

Paste problems. I regularly download data from the Transport for London, Oystercard website. When I used Windows I could highlight and copy on their webpage (displayed in columns and rows) and when I pasted into Excel it pasted the data in the same format (columns and rows). With iPages when I try this it pastes everything into a single downwards column. Paste and Match style does not seem to alter this just the font etc. Am I able to paste in iPages in the same format as I copy.

I'm guessing you're using Safari to access the web site. The problem is with Safari, not Pages (no "i") or Numbers. Safari just doesn't "understand" tables in web pages & puts lots of spaces and/or returns instead of the needed tabs. I long since gave up & use Camino or FireFox for copying the tables to Numbers or any other program I want the data separated by tabs. There are some web sites, Discover Card is one, that appear to have tables but the data doesn't copy as such.

I need to copy text from indesign CS3 into the backend of our new website but as soon as I paste the copy into the backend all formatting (italics, superscripts..etc) disapears. is there a way that I can copy and paste and keep the formatting? At the moment I have to copy and paste from indesign into word and then change the font to the webfont , copy all again and then paste into the web. Please let me know there is an easier way.

You almost certainly did something wrong there.
You say you "exported to RTF and then copied and pasted". Copy/pasted what? The InDesign text? If copying out of a Word document works for you, export text to RTF then OPEN that in Word. You should be seeing the same formatting as in your original document. THEN copy this text.

For example, TextEdit has "Paste and Match Style" which does what you want. Microsoft Word has "Paste Special …" with various options. I don't know Filemaker, so don't know what is on the "Edit" menu.

Open a Windows Command prompt, e.g. Hit Start > Run, type in CMD and press OK.
Type in SUBST E: C:\<enter>
This will map E: to C: until the machine is restarted or you enter SUBST E: /D at the command prompt. Now you can try uninstalling or upgrading the software again.
(If upgrading software which lets you choose a location, install the software in the default location, not on the E:\ drive.)

If you get caught with a bounce that does not stop, Command . (period) should do the trick.

How can I paste a double spaced document in Mail and keep it double spaced?

I need to paste a double spaced novel into the body of the email. I can't send the document via attachment or any other way. When I paste it returns to single spaced even if I paste and match style. Can someone help?

I don't see any such option to set spacing. I think your only choice would be reformatting the document such that you have to enter two linefeeds instead of setting spacing because Mail will not honor the normal RTF spacing.

I can't get mms (astoundingly shortsighted for an advanced phone), and if I get an email or go to that rediculous viewmymessage.com (which is more difficult that any human should have to deal with) I can't store the picture. I want the pictures friends send me, just drop to my gallery, from any source besides go home and re-load them on your tower and drop them in iphoto and sync your phone. I mean really that's just silly. The world's most advanced phone and you can't get a neat picture from your kids phone to you and keep it??? Help me out here someone.

I am not sure I understand your question. You did not supply the full troubleshooting information, and remember we are only fellow Firefox users we can not see your machine or your homepage.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select

How do I print a booklet with a colour cover but with black and white inside pages?

I need to print a large amount of booklets, which have a colour cover but are grayscale on the inside. However, I am having trouble setting up my document to successfully do this and I am unsure if it is something I can change in InDesign or if it is something I should figure out with my printer driver?
We used Page Plus for these booklets in the past and were able to do this with the same printer, so that makes me think there might be setting I could change in InDesign to achieve the same result.
It integral that the printer knows that the inside pages of the booklet are black and white, as we get charged per copy for colour printing and it is vastly increasing our printing costs.
My coworker believed that exporting the file as a PDF with the options: Colour Conversions (convert to destination - Pressure Numbers), Destination (sRGB IEC61966-2.1), and Profile Inclusion Policy (Don't Include Profiles) is making a difference. However, I don't believe is is the case.
If anyone had another suggestion that I could try, that'd be great!!

I tried with the following details:
Target-Profile: Dot Gain 15%
Convert to Target Profile
Include Target Profile
If I do it this way I get:
Target Profile not included
Wrong numbers for my colors
(I tested with a self-made color wedge on the page for the percentages of Black shown below)
Seen in Acrobat Pro 10 with proof simulation "Dot Gain 15%":
100 % Black => 100 %
80 % Black => 82 %
60 % Black => 63 %
40 % Black => 43 %
20 % Black => 22 %
I could convert to "Dot Gain 15%" in Acrobat Pro's Preflight Panel, but this would show the same wrong percentages (just tested).
What I can do, however, is printing to PostScript with color separations, only color channel Black.
That would work, if I chose a Distiller setting, that will not change the color, to convert my separated PostScript file to PDF.
Seen in Acrobat Pro 10* with proof simulation "Dot Gain 15%" or any of the other available gray scale profiles.
(Acrobat Pro 11 might get this wrong due to a bug)

This separated PDF (channel Black only) can now be converted with a self-made correction* in Acrobat Pro's Preflight Panel to a gray scale PDF/X-1a.
If done right * the color values stay as defined in inDesign.

Have a grayscale profile representing the channel Black of your intended output CMYK or generate one!
In my case the base CMYK profile was: ISO Coated v2 300%.
And I got a "Black Ink of ISO Coated v2 300%" profile for Grayscale conversions by generating this with my PhotoShop app.
Maybe optional, but helpful:
Change the color settings of Acrobat Pro X to use the color settings file you generated in PhotoShop where:
Grayscale is defined as the black channel of ISO Coated v2 300%: "Black Ink of ISO Coated v2 300%"
Mandatory, but somehow tricky:
Then on to the Preflight Panel of Acrobat Pro to generate a custom preflight profile.
None of the ordinary ones will fit exactly (at least in my Acrobat Pro X).
1. Make a duplicate of an already stored Preflight profile that converts color to Gray. Name it appropriately.
2. Include a single correction for converting to Gray Scale (at this time, or if you do something like that the first time, it's not possible to change or duplicate that single correction)
3. Save your new profile. Close the profile.
4. Open the profile again.
5. Now, suddenly it's possible to duplicate that single correction (converting to Gray Scale).
Do some changes, appropriate correction options, eg. adding "Black Ink of ISO Coated v2 300%" as OI to the PDFs you will convert.
4. Use that duplicate single correction in your new Preflight profile.
5. Save your custom preflight profile.

How do I copy parts of layers from one AI doc into a new AI doc and keep/create same layer names?

How do I copy PARTS of layers containing many objects from one CS5 AI (v.15.0.2) doc into a new CS5 AI doc and keep/create the same layer names?
To start with, I have one fairly complex AI document with 100 layers, with several hundred items in each layer. For example, one layer named "Stars" contains 400 separate stars (not grouped), another layer named "Crosses" contains 300 separate crosses, and a 3rd layer named "Text" contains 200 separate words (not outlined).
If I select, by marqueeing a section of the image/artboard, some (but not all) of the individual items contained in the several layers, then paste that selection into a new CS5 AI doc, I cannot get them to create new layers of the same name. Instead they go into one general layer (e.g. "Layer 101") as a jumble of discrete, but unorganized objects (no layers or sublayers). In other words, I have lost the 3 main layers from which I selected a bunch of objects.
Checking "Paste Remembers Layers" has no effect on this result. In fact "Paste Remembers Layers" does not remember layers at all. Only if I select ALL the items in the several layers will it paste those layers by those names into the new doc (or create new layers of the same names).
Of course it is a COLOSSAL waste of time copying the ENTIRE document, then pasting the WHOLE thing into the new doc (with layers retained), then deleting the parts I DON'T need, so please don't suggest that as the solution.

No Monica, nothing in Plug-ins other than the standard installed items (extensions, filters, formats, etc.). No 3rd-part clipboard extension on my computer that I'm aware of, either. All frustratingly basic. And my other CS5 Adobe programs appear to work well, at least to the extent that I am familiar with them.
So, from what I can tell of the various comments (thanks to all of you), am I correct in thinking that it seems I can't, in fact, do what all of you can do (that is, copy some objects from some layers in one doc and paste into another doc preserving those same layers by name and organization, and each containing the correct objects from each original layer)?
If so, that solves half my issue - "is it supposed to be possible to do it"; leaving just the other half - "why can't I do it too".
I'll get those screenshots made and posted later just in case I haven't adequately described the issue, or y'all haven't understood it.

I have a new computer. Moved (using Windows) the "My Music" folder to a USB drive. When I copy it to the new computer and import the folder, the playlist is not linked.

Don't import it.
Quit iTunes.
Copy the entire \iTunes\ folder inside \My Music\ on the extenal to \Music\ on the internal then launch iTunes.
Everything should be there.
