Pasting Attributes - Replace instead of adding

When I try to paste attributes in FCPX 10.0.6 instead of replacing the attribute it adds it. For example if I have a compressor on my audio track and I adjust the settings in one clip and I want to apply the settings to a different clip instead of pasting the compressor over rthe old one it adds a new compressor to the old one. In one case I ended up with 4 compressors on my clip that I had to manually deselect three of them. If I tried to delete one thay all go away. Before 10.0.6 I used to paste effects all the time but replaced everything. Now we can select what we want but it just seems to add the effects on to what is already there.
I can't find any documentation from Apple on pasting attributes or pasting effects.
Anybody have an idea how to make this work?

In my workflow I frequently do multicamera edits. At the end I need to apply audio correction and color correction. Before 10.0.6 I would select a clip and copy it and then "paste effects" onto different clips. That action basically replaced whatever effects were there with the new effects being pasted. With 10.0.6 if I just want to copy the compressor settings from one clip to another without affecting any other effects I try using paste attributes and only choose the compressor. But instead of pasting the settings to the existing compressor it adds a second compressor. Is this how this featrure is supposed to work? If I paste effects instead it replaces but it replaces everything. I thought the new feature does the same thing but selectively?

  • Paste Attributes - Content

    Scenario:
Three video tracks of equal length stacked right over each other. Each track squeezed back a bit, so all tracks are visible at once. I can copy/paste attributes (contents) to two of the three tracks. When I try to copy/paste attributes (contents) to video layer 2, black appears where I expect video to appear. I can copy the clip using paste attributes (contents) to the other tracks, but for some reason, track two only will show black.
I know of a workaround for this issue, but what am I doing wrong?

gotcha ... sorry John, I wasn't paying enough attention, I see now that you specifically mentioned pasting content in the subject title.
well that is strange .... are you sure that the content you're pasting in has sufficient duration to fill the clip it is replacing? ahhh, i see you already checked for that.
a workaround template method would be to build your composition using nests instead of clips ... position the nests as you did the original clips, then rather than pasting content you could just drop the new clips into the placeholder nests

  • How do you set the number of rows in a spreadsheet, so that even when you drag data in, in writes over those rows instead of adding a new row?

How do you set the number of rows you want in a spreadsheet, so that even when you drag data in, in writes over those rows instead of adding a new row?

After the discovery reported above, I filed this report :
    Bug ID# 10073038
    Summary:
When Numbers is used on a system with decimal comma a csv file may be good AND wrong
    Steps to Reproduce:
With Numbers v2, you introduced an interesting enhancement.
In system using the comma as decimal separator, Numbers requires csv files using the semi-colon as values delimiter.
In fact it’s true if we OPEN the document dragging its icon on Numbers one or thru the open dialog.
    This said.
    (1) Drag and drop a csv built with the 'semi-colon' standard on a table or on a sheet
    (2) Drag and drop a csv built with the 'comma' standard on a table or on a sheet
    Expected Results:
Every normally constituted user assume that in
case (1) he will get a perfectly built table
case (2) he will get every cells of a row in a single cell
    Actual Results:
In fact you forgot the drag and drop way of use and in
case (1) every values separated by semi-colon are inserted in a single cell
case (2) values separated by comma are correctly spread in a table
    isn’t it ridiculous ?
    Regression:
Except looking in  QuickView to see which is exactly the structure of the file to decide the way we will insert it in a Numbers document, we may use an applescript fair enough to replace the semi-colons by TAB characters
    or
to replace the commas by TABs and the decimal periods by commas
    Notes:
While I am on this subject, I wish to make two proposals:
    (1)  It would be fine to format the date according to the ISO format year-mm-dd when you export a Numbers doc to csv.
Doing that, dates would be imported correctly in every countries.
At this time, on an English system, you export as mm/dd/year.
If the doc is open on a system using the format dd/mm/year, the results will be odd.
On a system using the format dd/mm/year, you export this way and so, if the doc is open on a system using the format mm/dd/year the results are odd too.
As every localized versions accept the ISO format (at least on entry), using it in the export scheme would give a correct behavior everywhere.
    (2) It would be fine to add the format Tab Separated Values in the Export pane.
TSV + ISO date format would give documents opening flawlessly everywhere.

  • After paste attributes(transform and crop), it is strange crop...

    Hi everybody~
I did copy from one clip and then paste attributes to same positon, scale , and crop.
But after that, like that above image, crop is problem.
Of course I replaced source clip again and no problem.
But I want to know why that problem occured.
    Help me~

What about the frame size of the project?
I tried with two clip recorded with my MBP's iSight camera (at 640x480).
On a 640x480 project, I could not make the problem occur. Paste atributes worked correctly.
On an 1080p project, the problem manifested itself. It seems that pasting atributes somehow messes up the spatial conform parameter: while it still shows as "Fit", it appears as if it were set to "None", as far as I can tell.
(Of course, such an error has not effect when the dimensions of the clip coincide with those of the project it is in).

  • "Paste Attributes" question.

    Hi,
I've got a hundred or more 4x3 clips in my 16x9 timline. Automatic Duck brought over the "Center" value in the Basic Motion filter, but lost the Scale and Distort values.
I would like to paste the default attribute of 133 for scale and 33.3 for distort to expand the 4x3 clips to fit a 16x9 frame, but when I paste attributes, I lose the "Center" value. In this case the Center value is used to determine which part of the 4x3 frame gets cropped in the 16x9 sequence.
Anyway, is there any trick to pasting the attributes, but preserving the Center value?
    thank you....

one way to adjust scale only might be to export an xml of your sequence and then open it in a text editor... you could then do a search and replace on:
    <parameterid>scale</parameterid>
    <name>Scale</name>
    <valuemin>0</valuemin>
    <valuemax>1000</valuemax>
    <value>0</value>
    and replace it with:
    <parameterid>scale</parameterid>
    <name>Scale</name>
    <valuemin>0</valuemin>
    <valuemax>1000</valuemax>
    <value>133</value>
it might work ... it would depend on what text editor you used (it would need to be able to handle UTF-8 character codes)

  • Scale Attribute Times and Paste Attributes not working as did before

Using Copy and then Paste Attributes as I have done many times before upgrading the FCP 5, the option to "Scale Attribute Times" is grayed out and the keyframes are not placed correctly. This happens even if the cips are the exact same duration. I read a post from November that states that this feature is not working is FCP 5. If that is so, has anybody found a work-around or know of a fix?
    Dual 1.25 G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   FCP 5.0.1

The problem is that the content is replaced correctly but the keyframes move (they were originally at the beginning and end and now they are not). The "Scale Attribute times" box is grayed out.
I just tested this out and, from what I can tell, FCP (5) now needs Timecode to match in order for Paste Attributes > Content (with keyframes intact) to work as we'd like.
I placed a 10 sec image - with (the default settings of) In at 1:00:00;00 and Out at 1:00:09;29 - in the Timeline. I set keyframes for Scale & Rotation at the In and Out points (100% & 0 degrees -> 200% & 360 degrees)
When using the Paste Attributes > Content method with a second image having identical timecode In & Out, it works fine.
However, if the second clip's timecode is not the same - say In is set at 1:00:02;00 and Out set at 1:00:11;29 - then the content will be pasted but the keyframes will not adjust for the new timecode. They remain at the first clip's points (that is,1:00:00;00 and 1:00:09;29).
So, you can try to match timecode (which isn't always convenient) or you can...
Select the first clip & copy
Overwrite/replace the (first) clip with the second clip
Paste Attributes > Basic Motion (or whatever attributes you're pasting, except Content)
Or was that a workflow you were hoping to avoid?

  • Paste attributes Help Please....

    Hello,
I've ugraded to 6.1 and find myself doing subtitling for foreign language TV commercials.
I noticed that some of the text is plain when it should have been set to bold. In the past (FCP 5.1) It seems that I have been able to paste attributes to text and fix things that way. However, 6.1 does not seem to handle paste attritutes the same way and I cannot seem to change text this way.
I have to change over 100 pieces of text from plain to bold and find it utterly idiotic that I cannot make a simple change through paste attributes. Do I really have to change all these pieces of text one by one??!!??
Any insight into this delema would be greatly appreciated.

Paste Attributes NEVER supported text settings like this. The text is a clip, plain and simple, and "video clips" don't have bold settings.
If you have to replace LOTS of clips like this, look into a product for FCP called Traffic. It's made for that sort of work.

  • Pasting Attributes with Title 3D? - A follow up inquiry

    Hello All,
The other day I asked whether it is possible to copy and paste attributes from a text 3D title to another. The answer/solution offered was to take a "master" format, and then change the specific names and titles in each clip.
I keep thinking about this solution, and it surprises me. In the same way that one can take an Excel spreadsheet and copy the format from one to another, I would think that it would be advantageous (as well as popular) to have such control with titles in FCP.
I'm not a programmer, so I don't know if this is asking the world. Is it just a feature that hasn't been developed, or is it a complicated function, or do folks simply determine up front what the titles will look like, and if they change their mind, go back and retype all of the information?
    Just curious.
    Thanks.
    DG

Title 3D does let you create and save "styles" that you can reuse whenever you choose to do so.

  • Trying to Paste Attributes - AUDIO ONLY. I copy the clip I want - then click Paste Attributes - previously a box appeared with options - now nothing appears.  Only happening with AUDIO attributes.  Anyone else experiencing this?

I am trying to Paste Attributes of AUDIO ONLY - from one clip to another audio clip.  These are the settings for the VOICE OVER on my 15 minute project.  This has worked before.  However now I copy the clip I want o use the attributes from - then I selct PASTE ATTRIBUTES. In the past a new dialogue box would appear and offer me the opportunity to select the attributes or effects I wanted to COPY and PASTE.  Hoever now - there is NOTHING.
I also want to REMOVE the ATTRIBUTES from 287 clips - but apparently I can only do this one at a time?  That seems like the most ridiculous thing in the world.  Certainly this can't be true?  Is there no way to remove ALL Attrributes from all of the clips at the same time?
    Anyone?  Anyone?

I cannot reproduce this. It is working as expected here: select a clip, copy, select another clip (or clips), paste attributes, and I get the usual window - this works for audio only clips as well as other clips.
I suggest you try deleting FCP X preferences with Preference Manager and try again.

Select the clips you want, and delete the effects in the Inspector by selecting and hitting the delete key.

  • After upgrade to FCPX 10.1, paste attributes no longer works. Has any one had a similar experience or have an answer?

After upgrade to FCPX 10.1, paste attributes no longer works. Has anyone had this issue or have an answer to it?

Are you sure it does not work at all? Could be a problem with a particular project, or clip.
Create a completely new project, add some clips to it, Cmd-C in one clip, and try Paste Atributes into another. Does it not work?
Also, by "does not work" do you mean it is greyed out, or the window appears but nothing happens when you click "Paste"?

  • Can You Copy and Paste Attributes in FCPX?

I'm just getting started with my FCPX training, (after years of edidting in FCP).  I frequntly use the "copy and paste attributes" feature in FCP, (say you make some adjustments to a clip, you can copy these attributes and paste them on to another clip).  VERY SLICK and USFULL.  Does anybody know how this is done in FCPX?  Thanks

Similar though you don't have the same level of control as you'll notice. Copy the clip you want to use as the source and then Paste Effects- both from the Edit menu. This will copy over everything so plan things out if you want to use this feature.

  • Copy/paste Attributes to multiple clips supported in CS3?

Adobe premiere pro 2 doesn't support this function. Is not possible to paste attributes (including frame Hold settings) onto multiple (highlighted) clips, the option becomes shaded if you try. It was supported in 5.0 and 6.0 but was dropped in recent versions. Anyone try it?

  • Pasting attributes not working properly in FCPX 10.1

I have an ongoing project in which I use the paste attributes command frequently. I've noticed in 10.1 that the paste attributes doesn't work properly. In particular the trim and possition attributes. When I paste the attributes, the image is trimmed and the possition is moved, but not the same as the clip from which the attributes were copied.
    Any ideas?

I'm having the same issue, and no one seems to have a solution/know whats going on...

  • Copy Paste Attributes

First off - I will admit I am a FCP editor who is figuring out Motion in fits and starts. Basically what I am building is a bullet point graphic of 5 list items where it starts with all 5 visible, fully opaque, and after a couple seconds, 4 lines dim to 10 percent opacity and the 5th line grows larger and moves to the center. I built the first version of this, keyframing all the opacity and move/grows. I then save the project and rename it "2nd line move." What I want to do is be able to copy the attributes from the one line that grows and moves ("1st line move") to the new, renamed project. In FCP I use copy/paste attributes for situations like this. I can't seem to figure out how to do it in Motion, without pretty much creating new keyframes on each version of the same graphic.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    hi,
a simple way is to click on the object you have animated, and then simply to click and hold on the position parameter name in the inspector and drag it to the object you want to copy the animation too.
You can do this for the scale parameter as well.
