Pasting in iOS 6 retains style information that it didn't used to.

As of iOS 6, if you copy a URL from Safari, switch to Mail, and paste, the font will be smaller. Any type you create after that url will also be smaller. There seems to be no way to get the font back to normal.
The only way I have found to work around this is to open up the SMS application, open any SMS message thread you have in progress, paste the URL into the message field, then select the url form the message field, cut it, move to the mail application, then paste it in. Now you have removed the styinling information and behavior is as it was in iOS 5.
Are there any apps that you are aware of that strip styles from text?
I have tried pastebot, which doesnt work. Emailing them did not get a reply.
Suggestions? Anyone else annoyed wiht this, or is it just me?

How has your work as a software architect or developer changed in the past year?
There are always new technologies popping up in IT and some of them vanish quietly. That's IT. And that's the difference between an real architect and a software architect (buildings and bridges are built based on the same principles of structural analysis as hundreds of years ago).
Last year Docker appeared on the stage. As A. Cockroft put it, Docker wasn't on anyones roadmap for 2014 - its on everyones roadmap for 2015.
Obviously as an Oracle ACE Director I focus on new technologies in the cloud and middleware space, including open source projects.
How have you adjusted to that change? Was the adjustment difficult?
Well, my trick is to explore technologies early and then decide for myself if it's more marketing or worth to evangelize it. Obviously this is time consuming.
I presented the possibility to run WebLogic on Docker and also to run Docker containers in public clouds already at Oracle Open World 2014. At that time only 2% of the audience was aware of Docker! During a 1 day cloud workshop at the German Oracle User Group Meeting a month later in Germany I did a hands-on demo.
Today everybody is crazy about Docker. It's certainly a hype and it nicely goes with the micro services trend. Unfortunately this also means that people forget about open technical issues.
Now Oracle officially certified WebLogic to run on Docker! That is really cool. Interestingly this is based on the work that Bruno Borges from Oracle did and open sourced on github.
How might your work change over the next year?
Myself, I expect to focus more on container orchestration, PaaS, and on big data (machine learning will be a part of it). Again there are dozens of open source projects in this area yet Oracle is surprisingly well integrated with its own big data product pipeline.
Also I am expecting verbal fights with those who rejected SOA some 5 years ago but now believe that microservices are the silver bullet.
Same as with those who believe that they do devops but they actually don't.

I tried to re-install OSX Mavericks. Get error that I didn't use ID that purchased OSX Mavericks. How do I get it to install?

My biggest suggestion would be to check and make sure that the app works with iOS 8. If their app is not compatible, then there is a possibility that the app will crash every time you open it or some other way that makes the app unusable and then you would be unable to access that data. As long as the app is compatible with iOS 8 then updating your OS shouldn't cause you to lose any of the information within the app. As others are suggested, make sure you have a backup but just note that once you update to iOS 8 you cannot revert back to an older version. How do I export an album from the iPhone Photos app in a form that retains location information so I can import it to ArcMap or Google Earth?

I have an iPhone 4S with OS 5.1 installed and I have taken several hundred photos that are geotagged and that show up in the Places page in the Photos app. These were taken for field work and have data in them that we want to use to tie information in the photos to locations in a GIS application. Therefore I would like to be able to export the mapped locations along with the photos in a way that would allow me to upload the locations to ArcMap or to Google Earth. I know that the individual photos have location information but the process of uploading them to Panoramio one at a time is labor-intensive, whereas I can take an entire album in the Photos application and quickly display locations tied to photos on the screen.
Also these photos were taken before I enabled iCloud on my iPhone and I'm wondering how to upload them even though they were taken previously. When I go into the "share" menu my only options are email, tweet, message, and print. I'd like to send the whole album to iCloud so I can at least bring it back into applications on my Macbook Pro.
Does anyone have a recommendation as to how I can go about doing either of these things?

Go to about half way down the page. The script works well, but I'd like to change it so that I only export Versions w/ a specified "main rating" (or greater than a minimum rating)
If you look at the script, there's a line:
"set theimages to every image version as list"
FYI: "image version" is an Aperture class that represents an image version. "main rating" is a property of "image version"
Is there a way to modify this applescript statement to spec only those "image versions" that meet a min "main rating"? I tried a bunch of things, and none of them compiled. (I need to learn Applescript)
If not, then how could this be done w/ a little loop in Applescript?

That's the entire point of the update. To prevent unauthorized activation of an iPhone. To discourage Theft.
If there was a way around it, it would defeat its purpose.
The only way to get past that is to contact the original owner and ask that they remove the lock with their Apple ID.

What I have done is to set up a different sign in (is that called an Apple ID?) within iTunes (I now have two different names I can use to sign in to iTunes). They both still use the same iTunes and my personal apps and information appear to be available to my second sign in name (the second sign in name is what I intend to use for the company iPad). It sounds like you will still want to link your iPad and computer, but you want to prevent the iPad from syncing information from your computer to your iPad. I have an article here for you that can help tell you how to set this up:

You will want to follow the steps here to set up the iPad for syncing, but when it comes time to sync, you'll just want to make sure that the boxes for syncing the multitude of items that you can sync remain unchecked so that none of that information gets synced into the iPad.
Another note: your second Apple ID will not be able to access the apps, music, movies, tv shows, etc., that you have purchased under your primary Apple ID. Even though it seems that the secondary Apple ID still has access to those items, that is just because you are viewing your second Apple ID through the iTunes Store section on your computer and you have those items saved locally on your computer. You will need to repurchase and download all of the content that you wish to use again on your second Apple ID, if that is what you wish to solely use on this iPad.

I am playing a facebook game called Kingdom of Camelot. This come up when I refresh the game. To my knowledge no information is sent. I need it to stop interfering with my page when i refresh . I have deleted/uninstalled my extensions and plug ins and i am still getting the message.

Perhaps someone should report this to MarketWatch. There are ways for web developers to work around this issue (GET after POST, for example).

In past discussions about this message, I have never seen an easy solution. Arguably it should be made a user preference: those who prefer to be warned about the risk that they will double-submit a transaction or instruction on a poorly designed site can have their warning, and those who prefer to take their chances can take their chances. Not sure whether that is on anyone's "to do" list.
Separate issue: I wasn't aware of any difference between 3.6.12 and 3.6.13, but both are riddled with security vulnerabilities so it's hard to recommend using either of them at this point.

The syncing of Notes, isn't a back-up. All it does is to sync Notes to other devices. Whether being a Mac, another iOS device or icloud.com
This is the same with Contacts, Calendars and what not.

An iPhone backup to a computer via iTunes stores the photos in a backup file that is only meant to be be used if needed to restore back to the phone. There is 3rd party "extractor" software available but otherwise the photos are not directly viewable.
The backup via iTunes was a good idea and your Camera Roll photos should be there and should be able to be restored to your new phone. However if it was me I wouldn't rely on that alone. I would also import the photos to a computer where you can see and verify that you have a copy. That is a good idea at any time (not just when you know you might need it). Any phone can be lost, broken, suffer hardware issues, etc at any time and lose all data on it.
