Pasting in Keynote

I know there are going to be a lot of raised eyebrows at this, but trust me it works for what I need to do. I make "reward" badges for my company, and for years have been making them via - Image and badge compilation in Photoshop, and then a quick copy and paste onto a Powerpoint slide (6 to a page) and printed from there. I switched to a Mac a few months ago and bought iWorks. I am having a huge problem in pasting my "badge" into Keynote as the image does not paste at the size created, but arrives HUGE and has to be manually resized - a really significant waste of time.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening or what I am obviously missing and doing wrong? Having resized the image, if I then copy and paste it back onto the slide (just testing) the dimensions are retained and it is perfect, so it has to be some setting with the pasting?? Tried both paste and paste and match style even though I know that's for text. Had to rule it out as an option.

A change is as good as a holiday they say, so now you have changed to the Mac don't stop there.
I suggest you try this instead.
1. Open +Pages > New from Template Chooser > Layout > Blank+
2. +Toolbar > Shapes > Create a shape+
3. +Inspector > Metrics (6th tab) > Make it the size you want+
4. Drag one of your Photoshop badges onto the shape.
5. Click on the image and an Edit slider will pop up. Click on the little icon on the left. Your badge will shrink to fit.
6. +Menu > Format > Advanced > Define as Media Placeholder+
It may be ticked already. You now have a badge that will shrink fit anything dropped onto it.
7. Click on the image and holding down the option and shift keys drag out a copy to one side.
8. Selecting both images drag copy down till you have all 6 badges. They will align and click to each other's edges.
9. After doing any straightening out necessary, +Menu > File > Save as Template… > Give it a name+
This should now appear in the *Template Chooser* under a 3rd heading *"My Templates".*

Chart pasted into Keynote (from Numbers) won't update. Please help.....

When i copy a chart from Numbers 09 and paste into Keynote 09, it won't update (if i make a change in Numbers). It's the same problem if i try and paste a chart into Pages also. Any advice (i've tried the usual solutions)???

This is the procedure for charts:
Updating a Chart Copied from a Numbers Document
If you’ve created a chart in Numbers, you can copy it and paste it into your Keynote
presentation. After it’s been pasted into Keynote, the chart remains linked to the data
tables it references in Numbers.
To change the chart data, open the original Numbers
document and edit the data there, save the Numbers document, and then refresh the
chart data in Keynote.
To update a chart after you’ve updated its data in its linked Numbers table:
mm Select the chart on the slide canvas and click the Refresh button that appears.
Note: You must save the Numbers document before copying and pasting your chart
into your Keynote presentation and after editing the Numbers data tables that the
chart references.

Cut and Paste into Keynote

When I cut and paste an image from another keynote or a full slide (same dimensions), I often get a question mark in a box with the slide/image being 'x' out. How do I resolve? Thanks.

How do I keep the same size slide when copying/pasting in Keynote??

I have several presentations in Keynote. But when I copy from one, and paste into another, The slde is now shorter, and not as long. as I try to "stretch" it out, it becomes higher also at the same time, and I loose part of my slide.... Any help would be much appreciated...

Try and activate either track # column, or album column header.

Applications that can copy and paste between Keynote?

I am looking for both graphic and web appliations that can copy and paste scalable elements between it and Keynote. I create a lot of graphics in Keynote and I am hoping to find editors that can handle those elements. I already own PowerPoint, and it does an OK job. I you have any suggestions, I would like to here it.

Shapes created in PowerPoint can be placed on to a Keynote slide using copy and Paste.
Illustrator is the number one vector application and Illustrator files can drag and drop on to the slide.
The HTML export from Keynote as you have discovered, is only designed to make simple HTML slide shows

Can't paste into Keynote from Photoshop

I am trying to copy and paste from Photoshop to Keynote. I know this works because I can do it on my computer, but an associate is trying to do it from her computer and the paste command is grayed out. Only difference is that I am using CS4 and she is using CS3. Any ideas?

My guess is that she is not coping anything in Photoshop, which is why the paste option is greyed out. Make sure that she has the appropriate layer selected in photoshop before she copies.

Keynote 6.0 copy-paste is not working

I am not able to copy or paste anything (text nor images) within and from Keynote 6.0.1. Anybody else has this problem?

Copy and pasting images, text, shapes or graphs between slides should work without issue in 6.5.
There are some issues pasting into Keynote.
Delete Keynote, empty trash then install from the Mac App Store.

Pasting imprecise in Keynote 6

Anyone besides me experiencing imprecise pasting in Keynote 6? If I copy multiple objects and paste them to another slide (or just back to the same slide) they end up in another position than from where I cut/copied them.
Even if I notch the objects back into place, they are still a bit off. It's horribly annoying. Keynote 5 was rock solid in this regard.
Well... just one more bug in a horrifyingly bug ridden piece of software, I'm afraid. I'm flabbergasted that Apple has allowed something so bad to be released.

Keynote 6 copy and paste

I was creating a presentation with Keynote in Mavericks. I copied an image from a Safari page and pasted it into a slide and got a small box with "text" in it. The same image pasted into Keynote 5 worked fine. Copy image from Keynote 5 to Keynote 6 worked fine.

I do not think that cut and paste should be an option for any acceptable operating system and certainly not for a Apple Computer! I was very happy when a couple of operating systems ago it was possible to Drag and Drop via shifting through the Dock and waiting that the application by which you would pause in the Dock, would open so that it would make possible to drag and drop from different windows. This WOULD be especially useful considering a lot of nice applications are now full screen, but ..... that does not work either!! So I would expect cut and paste would work, but .... it does NOT! I have to bring both the applications from full screen app to windows format, bring them on one desktop and than drag and drop, and then I can make them full screen again until the next "drag and drop". Is this Apple?!?!?!?!?!? And this is just one of the things which do NOT work. It does not belong to this thread, but Hands off and Hot spots also do NOT work with a NEW MAC BOOK PRO Retina,, NEW IPHONE 6, AND NEW IPAD AIR2. I am _VERY_ disappointed in Apple lately....

Hey where can I watch all the past Apple Macworld Keynotes?

I was surfing around the Apple website to look for past Macworld Keynotes but it only goes back to the Keynote where the iPhone was introduced is there anywhere else that I can watch other past keynotes?

I couldn't find any doing a Google search. However I did find the MacWorld 2006 Keynote.

What can be done to have keynote & numbers to open in iWork '09

Loading up a disk for iWork '09 gives the three apps Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. However, only Pages opens properly. Numbers partially opens, but I can't get access to files I've made in the past. Keynote doesn't open at all. The version of iWork being used is 9.0.1. Easlier folders have been removed, and after loading iWork '09, I also sequentially loaded 9.0.3, 9.0./4, and 9.0.5. Any suggestions as to what to do so that I can open Numbers and Keynote (Pages openss OK)?

The main problem is a missing document type declaration (DTD) on top.
To fix this in DW, go to Modify > Page Properties > Title/encoding Choose a DTD that fits your coding skills. If you're intent on using tables for layouts, then I recommend HTML 4.0 Transitional. Hit Apply. Repeat with other pages.

Copy-paste of a chart or table in new iWork creates a low resolution raster rather than a vector

In iWork '09 I regularly copied charts, tables, etc. from iWork applications to other applications. They were in vector format. For instance, I have made a chart in Numbers, copied it, and pasted in Preview. This resulted in a vector which I saved to PDF, everything in less than 5 seconds.
It seems that in the new iWork this is not possible anymore, because the result is a low-resolution raster, which totally broke my workflows.
Is this an "enhacement" of the new iWork or I am missing something?

A possible explanation for our discrepency:
If I copy an entire page from a vector pdf using the thumnails bar in preview and paste that page into keynote, the image is a raster.
If I select a portion of that page with the preview selection tool, copy, and paste into keynote, the image is a vector.
This issue is especially damaging because I can't drag and drop pdf files I create into keynote. Major bugs have been introduced with regards to vector images, and I'm unable to identify a single rule characterizing this process. This is a disaster as I've relied on keynote as a longterm storage and organization tool for many vector images. Many of these images have now been corrupted in what I assume is an irreversible process.

Keynote Color Space Mismatch?

i am ecountering this strange keynote behavior. when i place a png file either as a background to a slide, or simply drang and drop it into keynote the rgb values of the image are changed. this happens despite the file having srgb embedded as a profile. this leads to somewhat inconsistent colors between my deliverables.
in keynote, when i use the sampler of the color palette i can tell that it uses "device rgb" upon placing the image. as an example:
the color (srgb) 191/189/174 gets converted to (device rgb) 203/200/188
does anyone understand what is happening here or how i can ensure that the image gets placed/imported properly?
any leads are greatly appreciated.

as a small addition as i keep playing around with this issue. i just discovered that a plain copy & paste from photoshop straight into keynote seems to preserve the rgb values. this is very strange. see image for an example. left one is dragged into keynote, right one is the correct color just pasted into keynote.

This is happening because you dont have a colour managed workflow.
Keynote will use which ever profile has been set in System Preferences > Displays.
For example, if you have set Display settings to Adobe RGB and you place an sRGB file in Keynote, the image file will be changed from sRGB to Adobe RGB, therfore the colour values will change.
The rule for using images in a colour Managed workflow is to use the same profile in the host application
(Keynote, Photoshop, Preview) as the image file has, or convert the incoming file to the hosts profile.
So if you have mostly sRGB images, while working in Keynote, change the Display setting to sRGB.

Changing a video in Keynote to trapezoid shape

Need a keynote guru. I would like to insert 2 videos on the same black slide next to each other, and have them trapezoid in shape.
Can this be done in keynote.

Masking a video can't be done directly - the option is greyed out. That leaves you with two choices:
A. Within Keynote:
1. Create a covering frame using Keynote Shapes to form a trapazoid opening
2. Select them together and assign a black fill then
3. Group the shapes
4. Clone the frame (Option-Drag)
5. Place one frame in front of each video
Note: Do not group the video with the frame or you will not be able to play the video
B. Using thirdparty applications to create the trapazoidal frame
1. Create a black masking frame in the shape you need, copy as required.
2. Paste into Keynote and use as a "mask"- like frame in front of your video
3. The same Note applies - don't group with the video

Importing Keynote slides into Pages

I'm new to a Mac. I'm doing a copy and paste of Keynote slides into a Pages document. The quality of the slide image is very poor when printed. I've done this many times before in Windows (with PPT and Word) and the quality is very high. I thought it might be the slide template I chose but then tried several others and the quality is still poor. Anybody have any suggestions?

Why not check what it is you are getting when you copy and paste?
Is the entire slide being rasterised to a bitmap?
What resolution is the original slide and is it being changed when you copy and paste.
More to the point is how are you printing the final Pages document?
If you are going to .pdf file first and there is transparency, reflections or shadows then that will be rasterised to a low 72dpi thanks to Apple's bad settings in OSX's ColorSync filters.
If the Keynote images look fine in Pages even when you zoom in on them, then the problem very likely is the ColorSync filters.
