Pasting object in another layer

Is it possible to cut objects from one layer and paste into another?
I know how to change layers. But picking an object in the layers list and dragging it to another is little cumbersome

Select an object on layer 1
Cut
Select an object on layer 2 (notice that layer 2 is now selected in the layers pallet)
paste
Object is pasted onto layer 2. I just tried it, so I know that it works.

  • Actions- move object to another layer

Is it possible in Illustrator CS4 to record an action that selects a particular object in a layer called base & move the selected object into another layer called blue & lock the layer that the object was moved? Any suggestions are welcome

An Action can record the assignment of a Note to a selected object.
An Action can select an object by its Note.
An Action can record the locking of a Layer if it is done in the Layer Options dialog, not by just clicking the Lock icon.
The problem is recording a step that will switch you to another Layer. However, selecting an object makes its Layer the current Layer. So, you can, for example:
Assume you have two Layers: Base and Blue.
Assume there is an object on Layer Blue with a Note: "OnBlue".
Assume there is a selected object on Layer Base that you want to move to Layer Blue.
    The Action would:
    1. Cut the selected object to the Clipboard.
    2. Lock the current Layer Base. (Toggle Dialog Off.)
    3. Select the object that is noted “OnBlue”. (Thus, LayerBlue becomes the current Layer.)
    4. Paste (or PasteInFront or PasteInBack to cause it to paste in the same location).

  • What's the easiest way to move or copy an effect from a layer or object to another layer or object?

If I drag an effect from the target circle of one object to anther in the layer's panel it replaces the effect along with all appearance. But I want just to add the effect. For example, a layer has a drop shadow and a path, round corners. I want to move the drop shadow from the layer  to the path so that the path now has the round corners and the drop shadow.
To do this I have to open the shadow effect of the layer wright down its parameters, then create a shadow effect for the path with the same parameters which is a lot of work. Any easier way?

    Thanks Monika,
May be I'm not understanding you or may be you misunderstood me.
    This is an example:
Create a document and a path (for example a box) and apply Effects > Stylize > Round Corners
In the layers panel, click the target circle of the layer and apply Effects > Stylize > Drop Shadow.
Now I want to move or copy the drop shadow from the layer and add it to the path without removing the Round Corners effects already applied to the path.
The result for the path should be Drop Shadow effect added to it and the Round Corners effect remains.
The result for the layer should be no effect remains for it in case of moving the effect or the Drop Shadow effect remains in case of copying it (holding Alt key while dragging from its target circle).

  • How to fix an object in one layer to an object in another layer?

I have tried to find a soloution to this in the forum, but perhaps my english not being native prevents me from using the correct search terms - so here it is for you to solve
Layer one: background with some rocks
Layer two: a person standing in front of green screen.
The person in layer two is "placed" on a rock
Now, in layer one the camera is slowly turning left to right.
I want the person in layer two to still stand on the rock, even though the rock is "moving"
I have solved it by manually moving the person frame by frame so his position on the rock is the same in every frame, but this is very hard work, and also very hard to do well.
Question:; Is there a way to make PP understand that the person in layer two should be in the same position related to the rock, even if the rock is moving?
Using PP CC and have access to CC
Thank you in advance - hope you understand the question!

This is called tracking, and this is the job for a compositing application, e.g. for After Effects, rather than a non-linear editor.
In After Effects you can track objects with legacy point tracker or with Mocha, which is a separate application included with After Effects.
See this help section on point tracking and this tutorial on planar tracking in Mocha.

  • Moving an image on a different layer moves other objects in another layer?

I've got two layers (this happens with only one layer as well). In the first layer I've got an image, some rectangles, and a couple of text boxes. In layer 2 I've only got one image. When I move the image up or down Muse also moves some of the objects in layer 1. How can I prevent this from happening? It's resizing or moving them all out of wack.

    Hi Cfriedman,
Kindly lock the layer that you are not currently working on, before making edits or moving content in the other layers. (In this case, lock layer 1 before moving objects in layer 2)
Locking will ensure that you do not accidentally select and edit the objects/layers.

  • How do I copy and paste a shape (or layer) from one file to another keeping all of its attributes?

Our department currently uses MS Paint to place varied colored boxes for callouts on top of screen figures used in our documentation. As you know, MS Paint is not a robust image editing application, and we are frustrated at its limitations (especially not having a "non-destructive" edit capability). Consequently, we are evaluating a trial version of PS to see how a workflow could be developed that would allow the department to use callout boxes "stored" in a PS file that could be applied in an easy, consistent manner to our screen figures (but also keep each callout box editable) using PS.
Consequently, in PS using the shape tool, I created a file with our colored boxes for callouts, each on its own layer. Now I am trying to determine how you copy and paste a box (or layer) from this file to a "working" file (one containing a screen figure), while keeping all of its attributes (color, line weight, being editable, etc.). I can't seem to find an option to do this. Is there? If not, is there another workflow in PS that you can recommend for this type of procedure?

Thanks - I used the Layer > Duplicate command and it worked great!
P.S. How do you drag and drop a layer? I tried dragging a layer to the other open image, but nothing happened. Do you have to hold down a specific key for this (I'm using Windows)?

  • Selecting objects in a layer to copy and paste into a new doc?

How can I select all objects in a layer and copy and paste the objects into a new document? We are having issues with the copy and paste method. Is this because it uses the operating systems clipboard?

the sample I mentioned describes how to duplicate all selected objects in a document, using
    var docSelected = app.activeDocument.selection;
it is usually not advice to use the selection for this kind of stuff, to work with ALL pageItems in a document use
    var allPageItems = app.activeDocument.pageItems;
now if you only want to copy items in a layer you can use either the index number (for instance, top layer index = 0) or the name of the layer (for instance "Layer1"), use this, you don't have to select them
    var topLayerPageItems = app.activeDocument.layers[0].pageItems;
    or using the layer name
    var Layer1PageItems = app.activeDocument.layers['Layer1"].pageItems;

  • Can no longer paste objects from one lesson to another (Captivate 4)

    Hello folks,
Until a few moments ago, I was able to copy elements (a combination of Captivate objects including text box, icon, and a text caption) from one lesson to another lesson (in a separate copy of Captivate 4). As a result of the copy/paste, I had a duplicate group of objects, complete with the same settings and x/y coordinates.
But suddenly, the only option I have after copying, is "Paste as image". Clearly, that is not what I want... I used to see "Paste Object".
Can anyone explain why I can no longer copy/paste objects?
BTW, I can still copy/paste within the same lesson.... but I can no longer copy/paste to a different lesson.
    I hope this makes sense.

    Hi there
What happens if you restart Captivate? Or even the PC? Does it return then?
    Cheers... Rick

  • Is it possible to clone an object from one image and paste it on another image?

Is it possible to clone an object from one image and paste it on another image in Aperture?

    As Frank said,
but Aperture has a nice clone tool - the drawback is, that it only works within one image.
What I sometimes do - as a workaroud, when I want to use the clone brush, is to combine the image I want to clone from and the image I want to clone into, into one single image by printing them together to pdf as jpeg. Then I can clone from the second to the first, for example, to be able to add an fairy to a flower: Picking up the head of the fairy in the right image and brushing it into the left one. Occasionally I prefer the Aperture brush to the Photoshop lasso.

  • Select layer/object will not move in PS, but will move another layer. Need help

I appreciate the help ahead. I cannot figure this out with my Photoshop CC.
Basically when I select a layer on the right, and then go to move the object in that layer, it moves a different layer behind it.
In the screen shot below on the left I am selecting the artwork layer on the right, which is the flip flops on the shirt.
From here I can use the arrows to move the graphic. However, as soon as I use the mouse to select the flip flop graphic and go to move it, the layer selection on the right jumps to the shading and moves a background layer.
What am I doing wrong? Super frustrating!
    Running Win 7 x64 8 gig ram, i7, 2 gb Nvidia card.
    Thanks!
    Jason

You probably have Auto Select Layer on. (Options bar)

  • Can't grab Object under another Object

    Hi,
I hope somebody can help me with this:
In one of my slides I have two highlight boxes which occur at
different times during the slide. One is larger than the other, and
the smaller one fits entirely within the border of the larger one.
The problem is that I can't grab the smaller highlight box to edit
its position because the larger highlight box is always selected no
matter where I click. I can click on the smaller highlight box in
the timeline and double-click to edit its size and position using
screen coordinates, but this is very hit and miss. The only way
I've been able to do it so far is to move the large highlight out
of the way, edit the smaller one's position, and then move the
large one back to its correct location. Is there a way to grab the
smaller highlight box without having to do this?
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Hi Eric
You didn't say, but hopefully you are using Captivate version
    2. If so, this will be infinitely easier.
If you are using Captivate 2, just click the Object row in
the column where the eye icon is at the top to hide the object in
front. Then you are free to double-click the highlight box that is
    behind.
If it's Captivate 1, you might try right-clicking the one in
front and sending it backward a layer or two. Or, you could cut it
and temporarily paste it to another slide, work with the one you
want, then cut from the other slide and paste back.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How can I make an image appear partially in front and partially behind another layer in Adobe Illustrator?

How can I make an image appear partially in front and partially behind another layer in Adobe Illustrator?

Put the image behind the layer (at the back of it or on a layer below). With it still selected, Copy.
Now Paste in Front (Ctrl+F). Depending on your Paste Remembers Layers setting, you may have to bring the newly pasted copy to the front, or to the upper layer.
Draw a shape over the image to define the portion of it you want to appear "in front."
With the shape and the image selected, clip the image using the shape. (Object > Clipping Mask > Make)

  • Paste from Illustrator to Photoshop, I cannot see the pasted object

Sorry for this dumb question but I have tried everything I can think of before asking this question.  I have a single grouped object in Illustrator and I select the object and "Copy".  Then I open up a new photoshop project and choose "Paste".  Then I get four questions:
Smart Object, Pixles, Path and Shape Layer to choose from.  No matter which one I choose I get a large box with an X.  I cannot see the object just the box that is x'd out.  This must mean something but I cannot figure it out.  When I place it dissapears.
Please what is the secret to pasting objects into Windows Photoshop CS4?
    Thanks, Brent

Magically, pasting started working.  Maybe, my computer was running out of memory or something.
    Thanks for your helpful answer.

  • Trying to copy and paste objects in keynote 6 I only get a hyperlink when pasting. Anyone else having the same problem? is there anywhere I can change it so that the copied object is pasted directly into the new slide?

    Hi
I am trying to copy one object from one lside to another slide in the same presentation. The only thing I get when pasting is a hyperink. Does anyone know how I can turn this off so that the image or the object is pasted as copied to the new slide?
    Thanks a lot

there are some unexpected issues when copy and pasting.
As a workaround, use duplicate slide to get the same object in another slide, (select the slide in navigator and command D or right click > duplicate)

  • Photoshop cs6 error "could not use the type tool because the target channel is hidden.  happens when im typing in photoshop, go to another layer and then come back. can't alter text at that point

photoshop cs6 error "could not use the type tool because the target channel is hidden.  happens when im typing in photoshop, go to another layer and then come back. can't alter text at that point.  i really need to get thsi figured out. thank you.

You may have answered my question. I AM using the 64bit version of Illustrator CS6. I had no idea there were bugs in it that affected paths copied and pasted from Illustrator to Photoshop.
A bit more about what I'm trying to accomplish... I'm trying to follow Deke's tutorial (http://www.deke.com/content/dekes-techniques-018-creating-a-3d-pie-chart) which is already difficult since so much has changed between CS5.5 and 6, but then on top of that, I keep getting errors!
So I created the pie chart exactly as he shows and copied and pasted into Photoshop exactly as he does. Before submitting this post, though, I tried drawing just two very simple triangle shapes, copying them both and pasting them into Photoshop as a shape layer. The shapes weren't overlapping, but they were a part of the same shape layer just like the pie chart tutorial.
Thanks for your help. If there is anything else I should try before just giving up because of the 64bit bugs, please let me know.
