Pasting Speed Change attribute to multiple clips

Since the FCP7 upgrade, I can no-longer paste speed changeattribute onto multiple-selected clips and have them ripple accordingly downthe timeline. I often have to match my video track time to the audio track timeand normally do the math to find what percentage the clips have to belengthened, change the speed on the opening clip, copy that clip, select theremaining clips, and paste the speed attribute to the selected clips. Before 7,they would change speed as well as length, now pasting the speed attribute onlychanges the speed and not the length of the selected clips, even when 'Ripple'is checked...
it's a serious time killer to have to do them one at a time...
This issues has been posted by atleast 2 other posters and hasnot received any replys.  Pleasehelp us.
thanks

Sorry KV, I don't think you can do that anymore. Most folks really didn't like the old speed handling functionality pre FCP 7 and were seriously pleased when it was reinvented ... unfortunately "you can't please all the people all the time". Why not just nest the video track and then apply a single speed change to the whole nest?

  • Change duration of multiple clips "as one" overall clip?

    Here's my situation:
I have a song at 127 BPM. I have a music video (muted sound) at 125 BPM.
I've spent a long time slicing up clips from the video into different channels and muliple clips to form one timeline (but with many clips and channels lined up).
I now want to change the overall duration of the video clip to match the BPM of the song (which I should have done in the first place), but the video is, as previously stated, sliced up in mulitple clips in multiple channels. How can I change the duration of all clips at one time, where the end and start of the clips still line up to eachother?
This would've been incredibly easy if there were a un-nesting feature. Where I can nest multiple clips, change the duration, and un-nest the clips to slices clips with a changed overall duration. (Which is not possible. Yes, I can drag the clips out of the nested clip, but the clips will still have the original duration).
TL;DR: How can I change duration of multiple clips "as one" overall clip?

Never mind. I've found a alternate solution. I used a time stretch calculator at http://mp3.deepsound.net/eng/samples_calculs.php and time stretched all the clips to match the BPM of the song. Now I only need to snap all the clips, which can be done one by one, but I found this trick to snap all the clips at once: http://vimeo.com/27428526.

  • How to change effects on multiple clips

Is there a way to change and/or adjust effects/filters on multiple clips at once?  I have added an effect on a scene and I want to adjust the overall level to all the clips, i.e. the amount of the effect applied.
I highlighted all the clips and made the adjustment in the Inspector, but it only made the adjustment to one single clip even though I selected all.  I REALLY do not want to sit and adjust each one seperately.
    Anyone with an answer?  Thanks

I am not adding an effect. I am adjusting ONE single effect within multiple clips that have multiple effects. if I just copy and paste it copies ALL the effects, which I do not want, because I have different effects for different clips. i.e. different color schemes etc.
In otherw ords, I wnat to be able to EDIT effects in multiple clips. E.G, I have added color correction, "looks" filter, etc to multiple clips.  I just want to change ONE of those effects in multiple clips without disturbing the rest of the effects in those clips.

  • Changing volume in multiple clips at once?

Im going crazy pulling the volume level up and down to the same level in multiple clips, are there any way to mark the clips and change the level in all of the at once?

    Several ways to do this.
    select clips
CMD ] to raise 3dB, CMD [ to lower 3dB
CMD - to lower 1 dB, CMD + to raise 1dB
CMD OPT L to enter a numeric value either relative to the current level or absolute level

  • Change properties to multiple clips?

Hi, I was wondering if I could change the reel name of clips in an entire bin? I thought there was a shortcut?
    thx! ea

You can select multiple clips and then Control-click (right-click) in the Reel column. That brings up a shortcut menu of all existing reel names from which you can select the right one, with that change cascading across all selected clips. You may (or may not) get a dialog warning you that you're changing the source file.
Of course, your Browser will need to be in List View to accomplish this. Also, if your reel name doesn't exist in your project already, you'll need to enter it manually - click into the Reel column - for a single clip, then try this whole process.

  • Copy/paste Attributes to multiple clips supported in CS3?

Adobe premiere pro 2 doesn't support this function. Is not possible to paste attributes (including frame Hold settings) onto multiple (highlighted) clips, the option becomes shaded if you try. It was supported in 5.0 and 6.0 but was dropped in recent versions. Anyone try it?

  • Change center of multiple clips in one operation

Say I have 10 JPG files each as 10 second clips. I drag them to the timeline, I select all of them. I now want to move all of them into the top left quadrant of my canvas. I can't see how to do it given that motion seems to be set on a clip by clip basis. Is there some way of creating a filter that I can drag onto the selection to affect all clips? Again I can't seem to see one in the filters list. Is it a question of joining all of the clips into a single clip and thus applying a single motion in the viewer?

Adjust one image the way you want it. Copy, select the images, and use the paste attributes function.

  • Change duration of multiple clips

Is there a way to change the duration of multiple still photos at the same time (rather than doing it one-photo-at-a-time), without changing the zoom levels and Ken Burns effect that has been applied to some of the photos?

O.k, I know what happened with my test project. My photos all had the same zoom setting. My Ken Burns photos all had the same zoom setting as well, a pan from left to right like train cars moving past, that I cribbed from another project to do the test. Since the zoom settings and KB effects were all the same to start with, I couln't tell that they all were being conformed to the settings of the first photo when I changed the duration. Sorry.
Looks like you'll have to just brew a pot of coffee and start the tedious task. But there might be some groups of photos that have the same zoom levels, and you can use my suggested procedure to change the duration of those as a group.

  • How to change attributes of multiple devices ?

This is something I thought would be straightforward but for the life of me I can not see how is it done in ZCM. I just want to set a property for a number of devices - based on a manual selection or maybe search results. E.g. I would like to set a location for all devices added on a given day. I can easily do a search to bring up a list of the devices but can not see a way to set an attribute for those. Am I missing something obvious here ?
While on it, is it possible to set device attributes from bundles ? E.g. as a part of post-imaging process I would like to set the location or the department for that device from a linked bundle.

Guys, "cannot be done" would still be a valid answer :) I doubt it can't be done, after all it seems to me like a pretty basic feature. I would even be happy to change the attribute for a group of devices - e.g. create a dynamic group then change location for the members .. but I can't see a way of doing that either.

  • How do You Make Accurate Speed Changes To Clips?

How do you apply a speed change to an audio clip in with frame accuracy? I have 2 audio clips, one from a camera and the other from a cheap solid-state recorder. The latter has audio drift and needs a one-off, constant adjustment to sync it with the camera audio.
However, FCP only wants to execute clip speed changes down to 1/10th of 1%, which is not small enough. Does anyone know what to do here - either within FCP or Sountrack Pro? Thanks.

I just know that often when capturing long segments of DV tape for our shows, we occasionally get a clip that comes in at 47.998 or 48.002, instead of the solid 48kHz.
When I export to aiff, it seems to clear up any sync drifting we experience with the original clips.
    Might give it a go.
STPro is a solid option as others pointed out. I simply suggested a quick fix to a possible sync/drift issue. (quicker than learning a new interface...though that's something that should be done anyway, for the tools STPro offers).

  • How can I/Is there a way to: apply a preset effect to multiple clips?

I will be editing a music video from this weekend in Premiere Pro CS4, is there a way I can paste a custom preset to multiple clips (selecting hundreds) without clicking each one and pasting/dragging?
If this can be done it's going to save me hours and hours of work!
If I try at the moment by CTRL clicking a few clips is only pastes/drags into 1 of the clips, not all of them!
    any help would be appreciated

    Yes, see the section
Copy and paste clip effects and
Apply effects to clips in the Premiere Pro Help.

  • How to change Opacity Blending on multiple clips...??

    First the problem:
    Whenever I open a Premiere v6.5 project, CS4 does a "conversion."
Maddeningly, during this process, it changes the Opacity\Blending Mode of every single clip in the project to "Color" instead of leaving it at "Normal."
Since I am working with Stereo (3D) footage with a different camera on V2 & V1, I always have at least two, and often many more, video tracks (for titles, etc).
This means I have to go through every single clip on every single video track and reset it to Normal before I can proceed with the project! This can be upwards of 500 clips.
    PITA!!
    1) Does anyone have any idea why this is happening & how to prevent it?
    or,
    2) Is there a way to change this setting in all the clips at the same time?
Whenever I select multiple clips, no Effect Settings (or whatever Shift 5 is called) appear. Only there for single clips.
    TIA,:-)

Do one clip, copy (rightclick) the clip, select all the others and paste attributes.

  • How to change color on multiple text clips

I just finished creating a video with a lot of moving text. It's about 40 mins long. The client wants the text color to be different in the video. My problem is I have multiple text clips (hundreds) that I need to change.
Is there a simple short cut to do this. I love how in fcp you can use the past attributes feature to paste drop shadows and other motion elements on multiple clips. I haven't seen this option for color though.
    Thanks,
    Cody

    Thanks Mjax4,
That's definitely one way to do it. The only negative is having to render all of that.
You cannot simply copy/paste the color...
Here's another way to do it. Note: this isn't really elegant AND it's still going to require rendering - so it might not work for you. But, I guess with any 'workaround' you've got to weigh the pros & cons, though, eh?
    Anyway, you could
1.) Put a Color Solid on the video track above one of your titles.
2.) Set the solid's color to the exact color you want the titles to take on.
3.) Set the solid's composite mode to "Travel Matte-alpha". (This will use the alpha info. from the text clip to cut a hole into your now-colored solid.)
4.) Copy this clip to all the other titles, above them.
Again, this is just another workaround...so your alternatives are:
    • Bear down and re-do all the graphics properly...time-consuming!
    • Use one of the "other" techniques and wait on a render.
They both cost you time. But at least with rendering - you can do whatever else you want while it's happening. It's wait-time. Not WORK time. Up to you!
    Hope this helps.

  • Changing multiple clips

I have figured out that I can paste an effect across multiple clips... but I have not figured out how to change, for instance, a "Motion" attribute like "Opacity" across multiple clips at once... is there a trick I'm missing, or do I need to pick a similar "effect" and paste it across the clips?

Once you've adjusted the opacity on one clip, copy it (Command c) then select (highlight) all other clips on the Timeline to which you want to apply the same opacity levels. Right-click on one of them and select Paste Attributes. When the Paste Attributes window opens, click on Opacity.
If there are other attributes you want to paste to the other clips, click those as well.
