Pasting Transitions in FCP - Length ends up being 1 frame

Lately I've been having an odd thing happen whenever I try and paste any transition in Final Cut Pro - instead of it being whatever length it was on the original that I copied, when it is pasted it ends up being 1 frame in length. Odd thing is that this only started recently, and it is happening on both my work and my home computer, so it seems to be an upgrade issue.
And before anybody asks, yes I am sure that there is enough room/handles on either side of the clips for a transition. In fact, if I drag the transition to the same space/point, the transition will apply itself perfectly.
But if I paste the identical transition to the identical place, I get a sliver of the transition that is only 1 frame long. I can change the length of it manually (which is a pain in the butt zooming the timeline big enough to see it, much less click on it) and that works fine. But for some reason pasting a transition, be it one of FCP's standard (like Cross-Fade) or a 3rd party, whether it was copied from the Timeline or the effects window, results in the transition being 1 puny frame long.

I've experienced this from time to time, with no known complete fix.
Yes, it's very odd behavior...you could try trashing preferences.
The only solution I've found to work (inconsistently, BTW) is to 'drag' the ending edge of the outgoing clip away from then back to the edit point...likewise with the front edge of the incoming clip (don't 'move' the clips...just drag or roll the edge of the clip). Then, I'll paste the transition. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It's almost quicker to zoom in and change it manually.
Sorry it's not a real solution.

You need to give a lot more information about the media specifications and the project properties you're using in the different projects.

How Come My Transitions End Up As Black Frame?

So Im working with 1920 x 1080 Sony EX1 footage and when I export it as movie my transitions like dissolve, fade in fade out end up as a flash of black. When I changed my export settings to pixel aspect ratio to square it worked but the film ended up being 600mb for two minutes in length. I also fixed it using the flicker effect filter but why is it like this?
Also when I use MPEG streamclip to make file size smaller the transitions end up being very pixelated and theres a loss of quality. I tried all the 1920 x 1080 presets on it with H264 and limit date rate of 3000bs.

What are your sequence settings? They match the source material's properties exactly, right?

Is there some sort of Shatter Transition in FCP

I am looking for a transitions that shatters the end of one footage and the beggining of the next footage zooms in. Is there such transition or is there a method to do this. If I have to I can Manually zoom in the footage but I want the transition that shatters.

I guess a better way to describe it would be like a break through. I want it to look like the secondary footage was breaking through the primary.

The 'Winmail.dat' problem has been extensively covered in these forums, I would search for that (a Google search works well) and unfortunately I have not seen the pdf print problem before, but assuming the software is current and functions normally (other than the pdf print problem) I have no suggestion other than the obvious (but time consuming) re-installation of Office.

Delete the email. The zip file will have no effect on your iPhone.

Problems with Transitions in FCP Exported Files - How to Fix?

I have completed an HD 16:9 project which plays properly with transitions in FCP 5.1.4, but when I export it, the transitions have a momentary "blink" to black just as the they begin, and then they complete normally -- a very distracting annoyance. I tried several different transitions, and the same problem occurs. I also tried exporting to several different formats and the problem persists. I also tried applying the flicker filter and the deinterlace filter with no success. I would appreciate any help!

I would also check to make sure the frame rates between your media and sequence really match. This type of thing has also been seen when working with 24p DV50 material - renders such as transitions were showing time shifts and repeated frames.
If this is HDV, you might try isolating one offending transition, exporting the clips as AIC and rebuilding an re-rendering it just to see if it helps. If it does, you could probably use media manager to convert all of the clips in your sequence and reconnect automatically.

Transitioning from FCP to PPro - Control-v command

Hey guys,
I'm transitioning from FCP to PPro, and a shortcut that I use quite often is Control-V. This razorblades/cuts the selected clip/clips at the exact frame where the time indicator is sitting. Is there a similar shortcut for PPro? I know I can hit the Cut key and then click where I want to make a cut, but it would be much easier to simply hit a shortcut key stroke, and cut exactly on the frame without having to guess if the razor tool is on the correct frame.

The basic guideline is a system has to be supplied on its own physical disc. The general retail version of Tiger always has its own disc. However, there are disc-less legal versions of operating systems out there. It's just a question of their legality in this case. I used to work at a large institution which had an OS license for many thousand Mac computers. Nobody had a disc. You would log onto the institution's server and download a copy and burn your own if you needed to install an upgrade. This was only for computers owned by the institution, so in theory at least the institution had control of existing copies of the system.
I called Apple about this a year or so ago, back when they still had some copies of Tiger for sale through Apple Support (not Sales). This was in response to another person on Apple Discussions in the same situation as yours with a download copy. I was wondering if somebody could buy a license of a disc-less institution which no longer had a need for an older OS version and then sell those (kind of the way you can sell an old set of retail system discs as an individual). Anyway, I couldn't get an answer out of the support person at Apple. Their basic reply was that if I wanted a set of Tiger discs why didn't I just buy them from Apple and couldn't they put me through to the customer service person who would be happy to take my credit card number? I repeatedly asked them I didn't want that but this was a question on Apple Discussions and was this a legal copy of discs? Same response telling me to just buy a set from Apple. I never did get a yes or no answer.

every beta release of Premiere becomes really unstable whenever I cut and paste transitions. Stock or 3rd party transitions, doesnt matter.... 4.0 - 4.1 beta, doesnt matter either...

Yes, it's sweet when something works perfectly out of the box. It's usually nice when a couple of updages cure all ills. Unfortunately, there seems to yet be a "perfect world." Agree with Jim that until it's discovered, other methods must be employeed. A Feature Request/Bug Report would be the best way to deal with this for now.

Frame sequence to quicktime ends up with freeze frames at end

I'm just using Compressor 3.5.0 to convert animation file sequence (24fps) into quicktime Proress422HQ (23.976fps). Any settings end up with freeze frame at the end of clip. I've tried 24fps to 24fps and still got same problem. Being curious, I've tried to convert to MPEG4, and still got the same problem. Originally the source format is PNG sequence, and I've convert the PNG into TIFF for test purpose. Still no luck. Does anyone ever experienced the same problem? Thanks for sharing.

Solved by changing the frame rate of the footage (image sequence) into any other frame rate, then change back to desired frame rate. In my case, after load the image sequence >check inspector of footage >change current frame rate (from 24fps to other fps) >change back frame rate to 24fps. Same bug in version 3.5.2. Hope it helps.
