PATA Raid Question using Nvidia Raid

Hi!,
I have 2 Seagate 120 gig ATA drives (not SATA) I have installed on my PC. One is set to master, the other is set as slave.  I decided to raid them (mirroring) using NRAID.  Here is my question. It seems everything is working fine and the raid is healthy but 1 thing concerns me...........The drives are not exactly the same size. 1 shows up as 111.79 GB the other shows up as 111.76 GB. I know its not a huge difference, Should I be concerned?

Strange, what does the RAID BIOS say?
Maybe it's just a bug somewhere in the utility?

  • [Athlon64] PATA RAID Roaring

I got the PATA - RAID array setup and it went very well actually. There are so many options that
there was some trial and error.  Once I got to windows I had to go to disk management and activate the array. I don't recall seeing that writtrn anywhere.
What surprised me was have striping works. I just thought I'd get one drive for 80 gb but I got one for 160 gb.
Can't say why I choose that over security except that I have backups of my backups particularly now with all the prep that went into
setting this up. I had to dump a few games but if need be I have all the savegames.
Partition Magic doesn't really know what to make of the new arrangemnet but I think I confused it.  What's a good option besides partition magic?
I was having a real bugger getting a new XP install because the installer reported it had to put some files on my array but couldn't in it's present form. I didn't understand why but knew what it wanted to do and since I'd been through that I said no way!
I used ghost to clone my install and was able to make this a dual booter(which I must have for testing new programs before I decide to keep them) but strangely I had to unhide as well as set the parttion active.....welll Blah, blah, blah...eh?
This chart is in my manual and it doesn't make a hell of alot of sense to me. Unless it just states that the Promose controller
can support RAID or SATA but not both. I was able to create the PATA array but I could run my SATA drive of the same controller
    so I used VIA's option
This is one great motherboard. I haven't had any trouble with it at all. In fact this whole setup has lasted me longer than any previous setup I've had.
Well, it's back to sorting things out and fixing all the shortcuts but that's waaaaaaaayyy better than reinstalling everything
    GREAT MOBO.....GREAT FORUM!!

The chart basically spells out in a confusing way that you can hook up your SATA & PATA drives in any combination you want EXCEPT you cannot hook up only a second PATA drive without a first PATA drive.  SATA does not have this restriction.
Does it reveal if I can hook my PATA RAID up and my SATA drive to the Promise controller?
I couldn't seem to get that done but I'm not going to fool with it anymore for awhile as I am now back to the "enjoy using my computer"

  • Noise when using NVIDIA HDMI output

Trying to use audio over HDMI output on an NVIDIA GTX580, using nvidia 331.38, results in the audio transmitted with a large amount of noise on top of it. I'm not sure quite what is helpful to say here, though. Just using ALSA, no PulseAudio or anything.

    Hello, long shot, but...
Go to System Preferences > Universal Access and down in the Display: section make sure that the Enhance contrast: slider is all the way to left to Normal, or more to the right for less Contrast.

  • MacbookPro Retina how to use NVIDIA display

How to do I use NVIDIA display for my MBP Retina 15"?
I tried Apple -> About this Mac -> More Info -> Display and I am unable to select NVIDIA display, only the Intel HD display shown.
Please help what should I do?

The NVIDiA card will kick in as needed. To get an idea of when it's in use, download and install Cody Krieger's gfxCardStatus - it will let you know which GPU is being used at a given time and which apps or hardware are dependent on the NVIDIA GPU.
    Good luck,

I am interested in how users can post questions using IP/TV while the presentation is ongoing. What is the process behind this as I don't really see how it works, any kind of insight would be useful.
    Many thanks Alex

When you set up the program, you can (or not) enable interactive "from the field" questions.
The client provide a button that can be pressed to flag the presenter that a field question is pending.
The presenter can then address the questions as possible.
Depending on the scope and location of the audience, you may also consider bringing up a conference bridge for voice-based questions.
    Good Luck

  • Do I have to use IDT audio? I want to use Nvidia audio. No more IDT!

    Pavilion DV7 3300, Windows 7 64-bit
I do not want to use IDT Audio anymore, I downloaded the new Nvidia driver and it comes with HD Audio. Can I disable or uninstall IDT and use Nvidia audio? If not, what about Realtek Audio over IDT?!!! Thanks in advance!

It isn't a matter of simply choosing which software/driver you want to use.The hardware in a machine determines what driver will work. For instance, to use a Realtek driver you must have a Realtek audio chip on your machine's motherboard.

  • Using nvidia-settings without X/over ssh

I have a computer with an nvidia GTX 670 that I want to control remotely. However, I have problems using nvidia-settings over ssh. When trying to use it, I get this error:
    ERROR: Cannot open display ':0.0'.
When a user is logged in an xfce session locally, I can use nvidia-settings without issue, using the command line over ssh. As soon as I log out from the xfce session, I get
    Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key
    ERROR: Cannot open display ':0.0'.
ERROR: Unable to query attribute GPUCoreTemp specified in query '[gpu:0]/GPUCoreTemp' (no Display connection).
How can I use nvidia-settings without the need for a user to be logged in locally?

I am trying to do the same thing with a GT 240. I found something promising here:
    https://sites.google.com/site/akohlmey/ … s-X-Server
Since you do have a local monitor, it may be easier not having to fake one. I don't have a monitor, I haven't gotten around to trying the Xorg stuff yet.

Thanks.  Unfortunately, I need to make a master DVD that can then be duplicated in bulk as a single layer disc.  This surprises me because I tried burning a different DVD project that has worked in the past which is also 4.5 GB and now I could not burn that either.  I also reencoded some material to get the new project down to 4.4 GB but it still would not burn.  Any ideas are appreciated.

  • HT5312 i could not follow anything, it needs to be clearer, and i all i wanted was to find the answers to my questions, you told me how to make an itunes account. and i'm pretty sure the questions used to be "first teacher" and "favorite teacher"not partn

HELP i just could not figure out how to find the answers to my security questions, and i do believe that the questions used to be "who was your first teacher" and "who was your favorite teacher" but now the second one is "where did you and your partner go on there first trip together, so now i'm wondering if i dont even have the answers anymore! why, have you changed the questions, and i really am having trouble following the help pages. i need help, it wont let me buy any songs or apps, so i've been saving the links and names to songs.

We are fellow users on these forums, you're not talking to Apple or iTunes Support.
If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then steps 1 to 5 on the page that you posted from should let you reset them : go to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account, then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you should see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you won't get the reset option - you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down the page that you posted from to add a rescue email address for potential future use.

  • Xorg freezes on startx [solved using nvidia 185.13 beta driver]

I'm guessing this has been said before. I don't know if this a evdev hotplug problem or a nvidia problem.
    Geforce 6600 GT (agp)
nvidia  180.29 driver ( tried both pacman -S nvidia and the driver directly from nvidia )
I have nvidia in the Modules section and hal in Daemons for the rc.conf file.
I tried an older nvidia driver but it 177.80 but that wouldn't work either.
The http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA helped me upto this point. I've never had problems like this with other nvidia cards or drivers.

I've already done that but that alone didn't work. I had to revert this back to default

    Option "AutoAddDevices" "False"

Now that it's deleted, the mouse and keyboard works.

  • Question using an external RAID enclosure

I am considering purchasing an external RAID enclosure (4-bay) made by Rosewill. Has anyone had any experience with them? I'm specifically looking at the model RSV-S4-X which includes a PCIe Sata card and cable.
Any "gotchas" I should be looking at or taking into consideration?
    Thanks in advance.
    Carl

Well, I had spent time trying to find reviews but where I did find a review it was with Windows - not Mac OSX. And the reviews I read were mixed. So, the question here was if anyone had experience with this product (or something similar) with a MacPro.
    Thanks,

  • Pata raid on 3.

Does NV-RAID work with PATA drives on K8NGM2-FID?
The raid section of the manual implies that it supports PATA as well as SATA. However, I can't configure PATA drives for RAID in the bios.

Yes.It can support both raid array but make sure that you've same HDD model with same capacity. Make sure that you've the NVIDIA disk for the RAID. Ensure that you have enable the RAID config in the BIOS setup.

I'm trying to use the raid controller to setup 2 IDE (PATA) drives.  The manual suggests that PATA drives can be used as part of a raid.  However, I cannot get into the raid configuration in the BIOS.  I enable the raid in the BIOS but I do not get the F10 prompt to get into the Raid Bios configuration as stated in the manual.  How do I configure the raid?
    Thanks in advance.

have you got the Raid disk from the NVIDIA? When you install the Win XP you'll notice that installation on the RAID press F6 immediately and you'll prompt to install the RAID using the Disk from NVIDIA.

  • PATA Raid

Is the best configuration for each drive to be set as Master on IDE1 and IDE2
Will RAID 0 work if I have IDE1 hooked up to both hard drives, one as master and one as slave?
I tried using my IDE to SATA drive converters but could not get them to work sucessfully using the SATA 3 and 4 for RAID.  Its probably best to use a true SATA drive on those ports.
    Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply, this is my first MSI board and I have ran all of the PATA to SATA converters without any problems in my ABIT boards.
I tried them earlier, but windows kept freezing during a reboot.  I could not get into WinXP at all, stayed on the loading screen, but it was very light in color almost transparent with the loading bar on the bottom stuck.
I will try using them again on SATA 3 and 4.  Maybe they don't like my WD drives, they ran fine with my Maxtors for over a year in my NF7-S.
