Patch 11724962 - 10.2.0.5.3 PSU

Hi!
I'm running databases 10.2.0.5.0 on AIX 5.3. I applied patch 11724962 - 10.2.0.5.3 Patch Set Update. Everything is OK, no errors. I believe that select version from v$instance return me 10.2.0.5.3... But I got 10.2.0.5.0 Why? Where I lost?

  • Errors on applying PSU patches for GI (Grid Infrastructure) 11.2.0.3

    Need help!
This is all in the version of 11.2.0.3.   We created a single node GI with ASM by the user grid.   Grid home is /grid/product/11.2/grid/   And oracle home created by user oracle at /oracle/product/11g.    I have downloaded the GI PSU patch 16742216 for GI and Oracle DB PSU patch 16619892.   I just want to apply the patch to GI home, then Oracle home with different PSU.   Here is what I did after unzip the patch for GI:
    1.   Stopped ASM instance and stopped listener (these are owned by grid)
    2.  Created a ocm response file at grid home by grid user:   $ORACLE_HOME/OPatch/ocm/bin/emocmrsp   -no_banner
    3.  Use the root to run grid profile to setup grid GI environment
    4.  Use the root to run as (as described in Oracle instruction):  opatch auto /home/grid/patches  -ocmrf /grid/product/11.2/grid/OPatch/ocm/bin/ocm.rsp
But got this error.   For some reason it looks for Oracle home, not grid home, although I do not have any oracle home environment setup in root user:

I ave applied patch 6600051 for 10.2.0.4.2 version instead of 10.2.0.4 and so it required the PSU patch 8833280 as prerequisite. so i installed PSU patch 8833280 followed by 6600051 for 10.2.0.4.2.
    Please confirm the stpes:

  • Need to evaluate CPU or PSU patches

    Hi,
Our business is on the way of migrating the databases. Before migrating the databases, we need to evaluate whether we need to apply CPU or PSU patches after migration.
If we are positive on applying CPU patches, then we will migrate the oracle_homes as well, as we have been applying CPU patches after every release.
In case if we are positive upon PSU patches, then we will be migrating only the databases.
So with this scenario, we need to evaluate whether we need CPU or PSU. I did a basic analysis and found that PSU contains the CPU plus non-security updates. Therefore applying PSU is beneficial. Also we cannot mixmatch the patches i.e. if we are applying CPU, then we have to apply only CPU patches and if we are applying PSU then we have to apply only PSU patches. However we still need to know further details which could be captured from the answers to below questions.
    1. What are the risks and impacts of applying the patches.
    2. When Oracle releases both CPU and PSU, on what basis can we evaluate whether we need CPU/PSU when we are applying for the 1st time.
    3. If, after a period of time after applying patches, if we encounter any bugs and Oracle recommeds to apply a bug fix, what will be the implication that will be encountered if we have to apply on top of CPU or PSU patches.
    4. Will any situation arise where we need to apply a CPU patch, when we already have been applying PSU patch. If so do we have to rollback all the PSU patches or only the
    5. Do we need to install new oracle_home each time we are applying PSU patch
    6. Are there any ways we can reduce downtime. Are these hot patches. We have reduced our downtime while applying CPU patches by applying through OEM. How do we knoe whether they are hot or cold patches
These are some of the questions. Maybe later on i may get more questions. But I would like to get a clear idea.
Note: I had to write this elaborately, so that I can make myself clear on the scenario and also to avoid redundancy while posting messages.
    Thanks

  • Patchset vs patches

    Hi all,
I am not a DBA and am a bit confused about patches and patchsets.
I have read about them and I would just like confirmation, please.
    From what I understand:
Patches are individual fixes for the Oracle database, which you can install one by one.
Patchsets instead contain all fixes to bugs that have been found in the version of Oracle Database in question, and get released not as frequently as Patches, i.e. once a quarterly.
If this is the case, can I assume that patchset for Oracle 11.2.0.2 released in July 2011 would contain all the fixes of individual patches for Oracle 11.2.0.2 released up to July 2011?
i.e. would this patchset coniatn the fix for Patch 9824435: ORA-600: INTERNAL ERROR CODE, ARGUMENTS: [KOKEGPINLOB1] that was released on 23rd March 2011?
    My assumption is yes.
How can I determine what patchset has been installed against a DB (the opatch seems to only return patches) and what was fixed within that patchset?
    Thanks very much in advance.

    mBk77 wrote:
    Could you just clarify, please:
The reply from 909592 seems to indicate that the July 2011 patchset would change the version from 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.2 applying all the individual fixes for 11.2.0.2. (11.2.0.1 not 0.2)Yes, if you apply all the patch sets till July 2011 then your db version will change to 11.2.0.1
The link from mbk77 seems to indicate that the July 2011 patchset may contain all the fixes for 11.2.0.2 up to July 2011. The article also seems to indicate that if you use PSU you should not go back to install individual patches. If you apply the all the CPU available then there is no need to apply the individual patches which were relesed prior to that.CPU contains only commulative cpu patches. And cpu patches are only security patches.
    >
    >
So, if the DBA states that the install of 11.2.0.2 was done with all the psu up to and including July 2011, could I assume that patches released for 11.2.0.2 prior to July 2011 (as per the example earlier mentioned) have been included?Oracle Critical Patch Updates (CPU) will contain both the PSU and CPU, so the DBA may choose to apply a whole CPU or only the selected patches in the PSU patch bundle. This is not correct AFAIK. CPU doesn't contain PSU(patchset update , which includes the BUG fixes). CPU only contains the security patches. However PSU does contain the CPU patches.

Go through the below doc once...
    http://www.oracle.com/us/support/assurance/leveraging-cpu-wp-164638.pdf?ssSourceSiteId=otnen
    @OP,
Its recommended to apply latest PSU based on your release i.e 11.2.0.2.0 (this will include all previouds PSU as well as CPU).
The Database Patch Set Updates and Critical Patch Updates that are released each quarter contain the same security fixes. However, they use different patching mechanisms, and Patch Set Updates include both security and recommended bug fixes. Consider the following guidelines when you are deciding to apply Patch Set Updates instead of Critical Patch Updates.
Critical Patch Updates are applied only on the base release version, for example 11.2.0.x.0
Patch Set Updates can be applied on the base release version or on any earlier Patch Set Update. For example, 11.1.0.7.2 can be applied on 11.1.0.7.1 and 11.1.0.7.0.
Once a Patch Set Update has been applied, the recommended way to get future security content is to apply subsequent Patch Set Updates. Reverting from an applied Patch Set Update back to the Critical Patch Update, while technically possible, requires significant time and effort, and is not advised.
Applying a Critical Patch Update on an installation with a Patch Set Update installed is not supported.
For more information on Patch Set Updates, see Note 854428.1, Patch Set Updates for Oracle Products.Hope this help

Edited by: rootsman on Apr 12, 2012 1:36 AM

    Hi Rootsman,
There are 2 possible causes for this issue.
    1. Because an incorrect syntax was used to apply the SQL part of the patch. If the password for the user is not added in the command line, the rcuJDBCEngine will fail. The rcuJDBCEngine will not prompt for the password (like sqlplus does), if it is not provided on the command line.
    - Incorrect syntax
    +$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rcuJDBCEngine sys@<host>:<port>:<SID> JDBC_SCRIPT post_install_script.sql $PWD $ORACLE_HOME+
    - Correct syntax
    +$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rcuJDBCEngine sys/<password for sys>@<host>:<port>:<SID> JDBC_SCRIPT post_install_script.sql $PWD $ORACLE_HOME+
    2. This problem may also occur if the password has been supplied on the command line but includes some special characters.
The solution is to stick to the syntax described in the README.txt which states to enter the sys password on the command line:
    +$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rcuJDBCEngine sys/<password for sys>@<host>:<port>:<SID> JDBC_SCRIPT post_install_script.sql $PWD $ORACLE_HOME+
If there are any special characters in the password, enclose the password in single-quotes ' '. For example:
    +$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rcuJDBCEngine sys/'<password>'@<host>:<port>:<sid> JDBC_SCRIPT post_install_script.sql $PWD $ORACLE_HOME+
    Hope your problem gets resolved.
    Thanks,
    Cris

  • SAP Bundle Patches VS Orclaes CPU Patches

    Fellow admins
Sorry I am new to these Oracle CPU patches what is the difference between SAP Bundle and Oracle Patches besides Oracle CPU's are for Native ORacle systems and the Bundle patches have fixes related to SAP's interaction with Oracle? Is there any other things I should be concerned with?
    Thanks
    Mike

    Hello Mike,
    An SBP contains the following:
o  The current Patch Set Update (PSU).
o  SAP-specific single patches and merge patches that are required but not contained in the PSU.
o  Generic patches that are not contained in the PSU.
o  The current SAP-specific optimizer merge patch.
o  README.html: Installation description for the SBP.
o  bugs_fixed.html: List of patches included.
SBPs are cumulative; that is, the next SBP contains all patches of its predecessor plus the newly-added patches.
You can find further information on note [1137346|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1137346].

Log transfer and log apply is going fine as of now.Why you didnt applied on primary?
As a process you have to apply binaries of standby, then binaries of primary and run catbundle psu on primary. So that when you start log transport then automatically all the changes will be applicable/view modifications/Compile will be done through archivelogs from primary to standby.
check this note how to apply CPU/PSU in standby environments.

  • Weblog server licensing and 11.2 grid oms psu ?

    Hello all,
I had couple of questions( i have already tried searching in the oracle docs and metalink notes, but could not find anything on it). First thing, looks like oracle 11g OEM Grid requires a Weblogic server. Which is fine, But wanted to know do we need to pay extra for this or is it part of oracle 11g OEM Grid diagnostic pack licensing?? If so, i was looking for a official answer (metalink doc or oracle doc)
Also another thing that I was curious was OMS? Is OMS only at 11.1.0.1.0 version or can this be upgraded to oracle 11gR2? As from below link, i only see 11.1.0.1.0 software.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/oem/grid-control/downloads/index.html
The thing that confused me was this link below. As in the below doc, it says to apply patch 10270073 to OMS home(psu patch). So i was wondering, after PSU patch is applied. Is the OMS going to be at 11.2.0.2.1 ??
    http://camoraict.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/install-oracle-enterprise-manager-11gr1-on-oracle-vm2.pdf
    Patch 10270073
    11.2.0.2.1 Patch Set Update

    Enterprise Manager Restricted-use License
•Enterprise Manager includes a restricted-use license of the Oracle Database for use as the Oracle Management Repository only.
Additional database options or additional servers for disaster recovery require separate licensing. Customers receive one single-instance database with the Grid Control, or RMAN, repository. To protect the repository with Data Guard, customers need to purchase a license for the standby site. To protect the repository with Oracle Real Application Clusters, customers must license the second node for the database, and both nodes require an Oracle Real Application Clusters license.
•Use of Oracle WebLogic Server with Oracle Enterprise Manager is restricted to the servlet functionality without clustering for the Oracle Management Server (OMS).

  • Installing Patch 9654983 help needed

Hi I am trying to install patch 9654983.
the read me says to take the following steps:
    unzip p9654983_11201_<platform>.zip
    cd 9654983
    opatch apply
however ... when i try and run the command opatch apply, i get the following error:
    [matt@localhost 9654983]$ opatch apply
    bash: opatch: command not found
    Any ideas??

Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
Sorry im really new to both oracle and linux ... the following are the pre-installation instructions:
    2.3.1.1 Environments with ASM
If you are installing the PSU to an environment that has Automatic Storage Management (ASM), note the following:
For Linux x86 and Linux x86-64 platforms, install either (A) the bug fix for 8898852 and the Database PSU patch 9654983, or (B) the Grid Infrastructure PSU patch 9343627.
For all other platforms, no action is required. The fix for 8898852 was included in the base 11.2.0.1.0 release.
    2.3.1.2 Environment Checks
    1.
Ensure that the $PATH definition has the following executables: make, ar, ld, and nm.
The location of these executables depends on your operating system. On many operating systems, they are located in /usr/ccs/bin, in which case you can set your PATH definition as follows:
    export PATH=$PATH:/usr/ccs/bin
2.3.1.3 One-off Patch Conflict Detection and Resolution
For an introduction to the PSU one-off patch concepts, see "Patch Set Updates Patch Conflict Resolution" in My Oracle Support Note 854428.1 Patch Set Updates for Oracle Products.
The fastest and easiest way to determine whether you have one-off patches in the Oracle home that conflict with the PSU, and to get the necessary conflict resolution patches, is to use the Patch Recommendations and Patch Plans features on the Patches & Updates tab in My Oracle Support. These features work in conjunction with the My Oracle Support Configuration Manager. Recorded training sessions on these features can be found in Note 603505.1.
However, if you are not using My Oracle Support Patch Plans, follow these steps:
    1.
Determine whether any currently installed one-off patches conflict with the PSU patch as follows:
    unzip p9654983_11201_<platform>.zip
    opatch prereq CheckConflictAgainstOHWithDetail -phBaseDir ./9654983
    2.
The report will indicate the patches that conflict with PSU 9654983 and the patches for which PSU 9654983 is a superset.
Note that Oracle proactively provides PSU 11.2.0.1.2 one-off patches for common conflicts.
    3.
Use My Oracle Support Note 1061295.1 Patch Set Updates - One-off Patch Conflict Resolution to determine, for each conflicting patch, whether a conflict resolution patch is already available, and if you need to request a new conflict resolution patch or if the conflict may be ignored.
    4.
When all the one-off patches that you have requested are available at My Oracle Support, proceed with Section 2.3.2, "Patch Installation Instructions".
    1. im unaware if I have Automatic Storage Management (ASM),?
    2. how do i check to Ensure that the $PATH definition has the following executables: make, ar, ld, and nm.
    3. [matt@localhost 9654983]$ opatch prereq CheckConflictAgainstOHWithDetail -phBaseDir ./9654983

Bit lost from this point, where to go from here, because these are oracle patches, not sure if there is any sap notes out there can help.

    Hi Rizwan,
Could you check  patch 11724962 applied for what purpose? Does it recommended by SAP?
As far as I know, there are no conflicting patch as long as we use mopatch for fresh installation and/or updating oracle previously updated using mopatch.
Not sure about sapnote regarding this, I would recommend you to open customer message to Global Support in parallel.
    Thanks

  • Suggested patches on top on OMS 12.1.0.3

    Hi,
I colleague of mine suggested applying the following 3 patches on top of 12.1.0.3
-Oracle JAVA SE home - see http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/security/javacpujun2013-1899847.html
-Base Platform Fusion Middleware home PSU 12.1.1.0.6 Patch 17071664
-Oracle Database Management Plug-in home Unix: BP Patch 17366505
I am hoping to get some comments from the experts as to whether or not these are really required.
    Thanks
    Steve.

    Hi Steve,
The note suggests recommended patches for different versions of OEM. PSU 4 on top of 12.1.0.2 is the latest PSU as of now.
As per my knowledge there no PSU released for 12.1.0.3. The note will be updated when PSU for 12.1.0.3 OMS will be released.
However, you can review the Bundle Patch information in below notes once which should meet your requirement,
Enterprise Manager 12.1.0.3 Bundle Patch Master Note (Doc ID 1572022.1)
Enterprise Manager Base Platform Management Agent 12cR3 Bundle Patch Bug List (Doc ID 1580355.1)
    I hope this helps.
    Regards,

  • Connect thru oracle wallet

I am trying to do a connection thru an oracle wallet with the string:
    Custon JDBC URL:
    jdbc:oracle:oci:/@pm102139
This has worked in the past , but now returns:
Status: Failed - Test failed : no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path
    version: 1.5.5.59.69
    Build: Main - 5969
    Oracle 10.2.0.4.0 in Solaris 10
    $java -version
    java version "1.5.0_22"
    thanks.

Could this have anything to do with Patch 9352164 10.2.0.4.4 PSU? This has been installed since it last worked.
    thanks.

  • Average Active Sessions graph not updated after restart

    Hi,
I just wanted to ask - I have restarted a database (11.1.0.7) with GC 11.1.0.1 but after the restart of the db the graphs on a performance tab are not updated. It means that the doesn't refresh and doesn't show actual data...
I checked jobs on the target database and GC repository but nothing is broken. Info on Home tab of the target DB is actual but not the graphs..
I also tried to clearstate and restart the agent but no change..
    Any idea?
    Thanks

This is a bug and can be solved by applying
Patch 10307099: PERFORMANCE CHARTS DO NOT UPDATE AFTER DATABASE IS RESTARTED
This patch is included in the july 2011 PSU: Grid Control Patch Set Update 11.1.0.1.4 for the Oracle Management Service, see MOS doc ID 1334286.1

    1. OMS 10.2.0.5
    2. Cloud Control 12c
    我打上了11808680,但OMS Configuration还是failed。
