Having some trouble installing this patch. Have not found anything that helps. Here is what I am getting:

This appears to be an attempt to install the same architecture and
version of a package which is already installed. This installation
will attempt to overwrite this package.
pkgadd: ERROR: attempt to unset package <SUNWcbreg> version <1.0,REV=2005.07.01.10.53> package zone attribute <SUNW_PKG_HOLLOW> from <>: the package zone attribute values of installed packages that are set to <true> cannot be unset

No changes were made to the system.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Hello,
i ran into the same problem: at some point the recommended cluster patchset issues warnings about not installing the patches:
The logfile
/var/sadm/install_data/Solaris_10_x86_Recommended_Patch_Cluster.log

It seems, that at some point the patchadd process does an su to the install user if one exists, otherwise to user nobody. If the patch files and all parent directories are not readable by either install or nobody, you get the above mentioned error message.
So there are two workarounds:
1. Setting execute permission for all on /var/spool/patch so that the user nobody can read all patch files and execute a pwd in the patch directory hierarchy.
2. Add an account "install" to the system
useradd -u 0 -o -g 1 -c "Install user" -d / -s /bin/true install
The second workaround did the trick for me!!!!

Cannot install patches via Connection Manager or Update Manager
I tried installing 137 outstanding updates via Update Manager, but they all failed complaining about digital signatures not being verified.
Then i tried using the online "Connection Manager". I managed to queue the 137 jobs no problem, but then they have been stuck in a pending state all day. Is there something else I'm supposed to do?
Is there any way I can just download a patch cluster like I used on all the previous versions of Solaris... it would be so much simpler. :-)# showrev -p | egrep -e '119107|121118|121453|119108|121119|121454'

Can't update Proxy preferences
I'm running Release 1.0 (Version 2005.05.20.10.51 of package SUNWupdatemgrr) on sparc, and I'm not able to change my password settings in the proxy authentications preferences.
First I have installed the preview of the software (downloaded in June), then I've seen there is a 1.0 release and I removed the 2 packages SUNWupdatemgrr, SUNWupdatemgru.
As a second step I re-installed it.
# ./installUpdateConnection

Has someone the same experience?
Nickyes there are 4 asteriks, and the file secret.conf had an empty password in it. After entering a password and 'OK' this file had my password in clear text.
To the best of my recollection I used 'Apply', then 'OK'.
At the moment the program starts with a pop-up window <Error: Unable to download document : "collection/default" response code was 302>
and later if I click on File > Preferences I get a Java Exception :
# IO Exception while reading pid file.

SIGBUS in operator new / delete
Hi
My application crashes from time to time with SIGBUS. It is a multi thread application. Here are the last 2 stacks on the thread with SIGBUS

I didn't post the entire stack (eliminated the calls on our code, the lines are irrelevant).
I still consider the corruption of memory as a possible reason, but it looks more and more that the issue is located inside the OS libraries. The both cores are located inside the dbm calls... Any insights on these cores?
Below the machine description
Thx in advance, Radu

Patch: 119130-20 Obsoletes: 119086-05, 120342-04 Requires: Incompatibles: Packages: SUNWjfca, SUNWjfcau, SUNWfOK, I see that dbm_open is NOT mt safe. But please look at the stack, it shows:
[1] dbm_open[...]
[2] dbm_open[...]
[3] operator new[...]
which means the implementation of operator new is calling dbm_*. I didn't implement operators new/delete, they are Solaris implemented.
I agree there are several explanations, including:
1. the stack is wrong - unlikely because the others frames are matching perfectly with my code
2. because of other problems in my code the stack or other parts of memory are corrupted
In this moment I would like to know if Solaris implementation of allocation of memory is USING dbm_* and if so, how it is supposed to work. If not, anybody has any idea why dbx shows me this kind of stack (operator new/delete calling dbm_* methods)...
As I said, the cores I have show this kind of stack over and over again. That's why I am supposing there are chances the problem being somehow related to OS... Obviously I am further collecting them and hope to see something.
Using dbm in an MT program is a source of several of
these errors, which is why I recommend resolving that
issue first.I am not using dbm_* calls anywhere in my code (not directly at least)...
Thx

Showver -p no longer show any patches installed
I am at a loss here and I don't know what to do. I am running Solaris 10 03/05 and did ran smpatch update and everything appeared to be fine installed no problems. Well now my system tells me no patches installed and I can't back down anything at all. smpatch analyze fails and returns an exception (1). As mentioned by the subject of this post showver -p tells me I have no patches installed but when I got to /var/sadm/patch and look in this directory I have a huge listing of patches installed on this system.(2) I'm trying and trying to get this system up for production as a development server for our team but i'm having nothing but problems once I get these patches installed. BTW zones doesn't work as well as several other things with this release that I believe need to be patched. One thing to note is that I have my /var/sadm symlinked to /usr/sadmv because I do not have a big enough var slice to download and manage patches. Can this cause the problem? I'm getting very frustrated at this point. Thanks for any help.
Regards

Configuring fixed patch baseline
Could you please assist. I would like to set up fixed patch baseline, but am having difficulties locating the files to edit (or a command to achieve this)
I understand that the first step is to copy current.zip to current_<date>.zip (for example, but can't locate collections file that some documentation refers to - http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/features/hub_articles/local_patch_server.jsp
This is what I have in /var/sadm/spool/cache on UC Proxy:
Database
entitlement
https%3A%2F%2Fgetupdates1.sun.com%2F%2Fdetectors.jar
https%3A%2F%2Fgetupdates1.sun.com%2F%2Fdetectors.jar.lmd
xml
I am not asking how to use smpatch to modify patchpro.patchset, but where to specify what the available patchsets are.
Any advise would be very much appreciated. Thank youThank you for your response. Yes I have done the smpatch analyze and got the current.zip. Actually things have moved on from when I posted this question. This is what I have done:
On the UC Proxy server created the directory structure under /patches:
/patches/Database with a copy of current.zip called baseline240707.zip
and /patches/Misc which contains detectors.jar
(/patches is my cache location and download directory, as it can be seen from below outputs:
server# patchsvr setup -l
Patch source URL: https://getupdates1.sun.com/
Cache location: /patches
Web proxy host name: myproxy
Web proxy port number: 8080
server# smpatch get
patchpro.backout.directory - ""
patchpro.baseline.directory - /var/sadm/spool
patchpro.download.directory /patches /var/sadm/spool
patchpro.install.types - rebootafter:reconfigafter:standard
patchpro.patch.source - https://getupdates1.sun.com/
patchpro.patchset - current
patchpro.proxy.host myproxy ""
patchpro.proxy.passwd **** ****
patchpro.proxy.port 8080 8080
patchpro.proxy.user - ""
On client side:
client# smpatch get
patchpro.backout.directory - ""
patchpro.baseline.directory - /var/sadm/spool
patchpro.download.directory /var/sadm/spool /var/sadm/spool
patchpro.install.types - rebootafter:reconfigafter:standard
patchpro.patch.source file:/patches https://getupdates1.sun.com/
patchpro.patchset baseline240707 current
patchpro.proxy.host - ""
patchpro.proxy.passwd **** ****
patchpro.proxy.port - 8080
patchpro.proxy.user - ""
Note: /patches is shared from the server and mounted on the client as /patches.
With this setup smpatch analyze on the client works ok - I've generated a list of patches, then using this list downloaded patches to the server without any issues.
However, I now have a different problem.
I am trying to run smpatch download on the client (thinking it should find patches in /patches and download them to /var/sadm/spool). I may be misunderstanding something, but I expected this to work. smpatch download fails with -i <patch> or -x idlist=<mylist> - the error message is the same "The following patches were not downloaded" and it lists the patches. I am currently looking into why this failed, but if you can suggest what to try it would be great (or confirm if this should work)
The outputs you requested earlier:

Questions on Patch Deployment - From older post.
Almost a year ago I had a post with questions on the patch scan process.
https://forums.novell.com/novell-pro...s-updates.html
I have been reviewing my patch process again due to Student laptop's getting re-imaged this summer. I am hoping I can get some additional information based off the replies from that post.
1. It was stated that monthly patch bundles were created and deployed. I am unsure how that is best accomplished. If I create an all Microsoft (Windows 7 for example) Patch bundle for each month, yet the workstations it is deployed to may not require the patch, would this not cause the bundle to fail? If it just fails on that section will the remaining patch's continue to deploy?
What is the best way to deploy a monthly patch bundle? In the past I would create a patch bundle through the Patch Management area for Windows 7 but assign to only a single workstation and then go back and assign to the Windows 7 group as a "run on ref" option. Is it better to assign the patch bundle to all nonpatched devices? If this is done will a system that is reimaged and no longer has the patch or a new system created after the bundle create be automatically assigned said bundle?
Any other good strategies for patching systems? I create custom bundles for Adobe, Java, and Quicktime to ensure I control how they are deployed. Java seems to be one that works better when older versions are not installed. This method seems to be working well for those products. It is my MS Windows updates that are way off the mark. I have most of my systems with 60 to 80 patches reported ready. No matter how many times I deploy the patches they never seem to report as patched on the devices (Even tho the bundle reports back as successful). I am getting ready to start an SR since I think this is an issue with the server since so many of my systems are doing this. Good deployment procedures would be nice since I really hate to mess with my Universal WIndows image since it is working so well. Recreating it just to patch it with the latest Windows Updates would be pain.
Thanks

BhaskarHello Bhaskar,
is the transport already approved?
If not approve it and try it again. (also it is a local one)
If not check the objects and unlock them manually the following way:
SE03 => Unlock Objects (Expert Tool)
But if you approve your transport... the objects should be unlocked.

Edited by: user7640966 on Nov 24, 2011 9:07 AMHussein,
One thing which I noticed now is in the apps Tier the
tnsnames.ora under $TNS_ADMIN
shows entry like this:
PROD=
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<appsServerName>)(PORT=1521))
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<dbServer>)(PORT=1521))
(CONNECT_DATA=
(SID=PROD)
)Actually *(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<appsIPaddress>)(PORT=1521))* this line in the tnsnames.ora is not correct. In fact the appsServerName should be replaced with dbServerName
I deleted the tnsnames.ora and reran autoconfig but it is again recreating the same entry.
Any clue how this can be fixed?
Thanks

How to find out the list of patches applied without using inventory?
Hi,
I have been asked this question once.
How will you find out the list of patches applied to Oracle Database Home without using commands like opatch lsinventory -detal etc...
I think registry$history is a view from where we can find out the list of patches applied.
But I think it will not include all the bug fixes, stand alone or one-off patches. It will mainly list out the CPU patches applied(correct me if I am wrong).
Thanks,
