Patch 4547809. Upgradte to 9.2.0.8

Hi all.
I want to upgrade my production database from 9.2.0.6 to 9.2.0.8 applying the 4547809 patch. It's running in a Sun Solaris 64 bits 5.9.
My question is what to do with the patches showed in the note 388281.1 of the known issues to the patch Set. Because some of them show in the readme:
You must have NO OTHER PATCHES installed on
# your Oracle Server since the latest patch set
And I want to know if I can apply all of them or they are incompatibles. Must I apply ALL the patches showed in the note or wait until issues happend? It's production DB.
Regards.

All installed.
They put the warning as a standard practice with the readmes of all patches because the application of any patch can add risk to the processing environment.
Thanks.

  • Downgrade after installing patch 4547809

    Hi all,
In order to avoid the problem that I wrote about earlier, I want to go back to version 9.2.0.4.0, after installing the above patch which took the installation to 9.2.0.8.0.
Yes, I omitted the step in which the installation is being backed up.
Yes, I have installation sources for the old version.
If I get rid of the current Oracle installation completely, and install the older version from scratch, then
    - what data should I back up?
    - is there anything that I have to take care of?
    Cheers, thanks.
    Benjamin.

Please be careful with the wording in your error messages. Are you getting "you are not authorized to use this functionality" from FR Studio? Typically if you apply updates to the server side you need to have the same updates applied on the client side too - since you just patched FR from the server side, I bet this is the issue.
Try to run the FR studio from the server and see if the message appears.

  • Problem in Oracle9i dbca

    Hi,
    I am installing Oracle9i RAC on ia64 servers RHEL4. I have installed JDK patch 5390952 and clusterware/DB patch # 4547809
Ocm is running fine. When I try to create database with dbca, it stops at 37% and displays messages - "ORA-01503- CREATE CONTROLFILE FAILED" "ORA-01565-ERROR IN IDENTIFYING CWMLITE01.DBF" "ORA-27047 UNABLE TO READ HEADER BLOCK OF FILE". After this installation stops.
I tried changing size of cwmlite01.dbf etc but it does not help.
    Appreciate any help on this.

    Hi user644753
Did you apply also your patch set on your cluster ?
Can you manage to create the database manually?
It seems that the creation of the control file is failing, read that:
    Doc ID:      Note:1077033.6
    Subject:      ORA-01503 And (ORA-01160 ORA-01110) Or (ORA-01565 ORA-27406)
    Problem Description:
    ====================
You are attempting to recreate the controlfiles for an existing database.
During creation you may see the following errors:
    Case 1:
    ORA-01503: CREATE CONTROLFILE failed
ORA-01565: error in identifying file '/u02/oradata/RM805/system01.dbf'
ORA-27046: file size is not a multiple of logical block size
    - or -
    Case 2:
    ORA-01503: CREATE CONTROLFILE failed
ORA-01160: file is not a data file
    ORA-01110: data file : '/u02/oradata/RM805/system01.dbf'
    Solution Description:
    =====================
    Adjust the DB_BLOCK_SIZE parameter accordingly:
    - If you received the errors in Case 1 (ORA-01503, ORA-01565, and ORA-27046),
you should decrease the value specified by DB_BLOCK_SIZE before you attempt
    to recreate the controlfile.
    - If you received the errors in Case 2 (ORA-01503, ORA-01160, and ORA-01110),
you should increase the value specified by DB_BLOCK_SIZE before you attempt
    to recreate the controlfile.
    Explanation:
    ============
Both cases occur due to an incorrect setting of the db_block_size parameter in
    the "init.ora" file.
Case 1: The specified db_block_size in the "init.ora" is too large.
Case 2: The specified db_block_size in the "init.ora" is too small.
The database blocksize must be specified correctly in the init.ora in order
    to successfully recreate the controlfile.

    OR
The information in this article applies to:
Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition - Version: 8.1.7.4 to 9.2
This problem can occur on any platform.
    Symptoms
    Getting
    ORA-01503: CREATE CONTROLFILE failed
ORA-01160: file is not a data file
    ORA-01110: data file : '/oralce/oradata/TRDPS/rbs01.dbf'
when trying to create a controlfile
Even after setting DB_BLOCK_SIZE parameter to correct value referring to Note:1077033.6
    Changes
    ORA-01503: CREATE CONTROLFILE failed
ORA-01160: file is not a data file
    ORA-01110: data file : '/oralce/oradata/TRDPS/rbs01.dbf'
Errors while trying to create a controlfile.
Confirmed that it is a datafile and is not corrupted.
And db_block_size is set to correct value. (verified from the output of DBV on the datafile)
    Cause
Most likely the file will be from a different incarnation after an open with resetlogs.
    Fix
Copy all datafiles from the same incarnation as the system datafile and try creating the controlfile again.

In order to upgrade your 9.2.0.1 to 9.2.0.7.. you must apply the Release 2 (9.2.0.7) Patch Set 6 (Patch 4163445); but i suggest if you want to continue with a Oracle 9i that you upgrade to las path set 9.2.0.8 (Patch 4547809) for 9i
you can start reading the readme notes for the 9.2.0.7

    Hi,
Pls check your  Patch level of SAP-HR , EA-HR   HR extension components and also ur SP level of Software components installed in the portal i.,e SAP_ESS and SAPPCUI_GP.
And go the SAP NOTE and check whether it matches both the ways else any patch level upgradtion need to be done....!
Consult with the basis person also .....!
Let me know whether this solves or not...!
Mostly u may need to increase the Backend Patches ...for both HR components...!
    Regards

Kindly help me with link to download oracle client for 9208 version for Windows 2000 32 bit.

Refer readme for patch 4547809 on MOS.
Section "12 Patch Set Components " - table entry "Oracle Client required support files " confirms that this patch can be applied on 9.2.0.x client installation.
There is no sentence indicating the same in 9.2.0.8 readme (which is there in any 10.2.0.x readme).

  • 9i to 11g but instead got 10g

At my place of work at a state government of Florida, our agency decided to upgrade from 9i to 10g. I wonder why we did not upgrade from 9i straight to 11g? Any possible inferences or ideas as to why not?

    Hi,
    Yes, you can upgrade,
But minimum required version is 9.2.0.8
in case if you are lesser than this, then apply 9.2.0.8 patch set (Patch 4547809 )
Note 551141.1 : Database Server Upgrade/Downgrade Compatibility Matrix
Then upgrade the database to 11g (say latest 11.2.0.3)

  • Interoperability Notes for Patchset

    Hi
Reading note for Patch 4547809, preparing for the patch set that will update our 9.2.0.5 to 9.2.0.8, it explains:
If you are an Oracle E-Business Suite customer and you want to upgrade your Oracle E-Business Suite release 11i database server to this patch set, then you must check the latest certification status and Interoperability Notes available on the OracleMetaLink Web site at:
    http://metalink.oracle.com
Could someone please make this a little more specific??
    Thanks!
    AIX 5.2
    EBS 11.5.10
    Oracle 9.2.0.5

    Thanks Hussein.
One last thing (for today :) :
we are told in the same README:
This patch set includes Oracle Universal Installer release 10.1.0.5. You must use this Oracle Universal Installer to install this patch set and not Oracle Universal Installer from the 9.2.0.x maintenance release media or Oracle home.
This is not a complete software distribution. You must install it in an existing Oracle9i release 2 (9.2.0.x.x) installation. Users applying this patch set must use Oracle Universal Installer release 10.1.0.5 (provided as part of this patch set) or later to ensure that their Oracle home can be patched in the future. Oracle Universal Installer release 10.1.0.5 is also installed when you install this patch set.
This, in effect, is telling us to install the OUI 10.1.0.5? But we must FIRST download and install it?
OK, I think I understand - as it says, above, Oracle Universal Installer release 10.1.0.5 is also installed when you install this patch set.
    from http://searchoracle.techtarget.com/expert/KnowledgebaseAnswer/0,289625,sid41_gci1232869,00.html#
The Oracle Universal Installer is included when you download Oracle software. You could choose the software you want to install from this page.
Please take note of the license agreement that you must agree to prior to downloading the software. I'm not sure why you would need that specific version of the OUI. Is this version specified as required in a patchset document? If so, the specific OUI release will usually be provided as part of the patchset downloaded from Oracle's Metalink Web site, so that you will not have to download it separately.
So, I dont think I need to take any further action - it will be included in the Patch Set. I am just curious as to how this works - we need it to install the patch set, but its included in the patch set? When does it get installed? With the patch set?
    Thanks, again, Hussein.

  • Confused about update method in JComponents

    Hello,
I'm a bit confused about the update method in JComponents. What I remember from applets was that the update method was called whenever something changed such as a window being dragged across it or something.
I've written a class that extends a JPanel and overwrites the paint method. Any components I add to it aren't drawn. I can add JComponent.update() methods to my paint() method but this is very inefficient as I'm having repaint() called by a thread 15 times a second. I tried to put the update methods in the JPanels update() but that doesn't work, in fact update isn't called at all. What does update do ?

Let me take another crack at it...
    1) Grab the 9.2.0.8 patchset for the Oracle database (i.e. patch 4547809 on Metalink assuming you're using 32-bit Windows). Install this to upgrade your Oracle client to 9.2.0.8. Installation instructions are in the README.
    2) Grab the 9.2.0.8 Oracle ODBC driver, which you already appear to have, and follow the installation instructions in the README you're looking at.
