  • Solaris 10 X86 kernel patch 118844-30 ... probably bad

I installed the patch on some Dells. Seemed to run fine.
    Actually, I installed 121127-01, 113000-07, and 118344-06
first since they were required by 118844-30.
Some problems have now turned up.
    1. When you power cycle one of the patched machines they
    refuse to boot with
Warning - The following files in / differ from the boot archive:
    /boot/solaris/bootenv.rc
    to continue booting .. #svc clear system/boot-archive
and then demand the root password.
    2. Randomly, when you do a reboot, a patched machine will claim
that the hardware has changed and demand that you run
kdmconfig. Simply going in and out of kdmconfig, without
    changes, does the job. Weird.
    3. I went to patch the next machine and after the patch
install and reboot, it was a total brick, with the error
    File not executable
Panic : No entry point in kernel/unix
    Press any key to reboot
And, naturally, this patch cannot be backed out. For yucks
I tried the equivalent patches on a sparc. No problems. So
I think Sun effed up the GRUB stuff in the kernel patch

Ok ... I noticed that deep down in the README for the patch
they say to do a "reboot -r". Cute. We'll try that.
That seemed to go ok, but when I tried a power cycle, it
    wouldn't boot, claiming
SMF database integrity check of /etc/svc/repository.db
    failed making me run
    /lib/svc/bin/restore_repository
which turned out to be a struggle.
My advice - stay FAR AWAY from this patch. At minumum,
it makes the power up boot process VERY delicate. Wait
for the -32 rev, which I predict will not be long in coming.
    Thank you sun.

  • Patch for HTMLB Handling of Internet Explorer 7

    Hi,
My project is using <b>Portal NW04s SP9</b>. When I logon to Portal using Internet Explorer (IE 7), javascript error "_htmlMessageBar is undefined" came out and all the function links such as Help, Personalize, Logout are not function at all.
I read the <b>SAP Note 990763 - HTMLB Handling of Internet Explorer 7</b>, and glad to see that, this issue can be fixed by applying <b>Patch 4 for NW04s SP9</b>.
However, I am not able to get Patch 4 for NW04s SP9 in SAP Service Marketplace! I downloaded and deployed the <b>Patch for PORTAL 7.00 SP09</b> (Patch Level 10 - which I think is the most relevent patch) to my Portal Server. Bad luck, same problem still exists.
Is there anyone has downloaded and applied the Patch 4 for NW04s SP9 before?  Can you please tell me where can i get this patch?
    Thanks a lot,
    HauChee

    Hi Nitin,
    Thanks for your reply.
Finally, I found the correct patch file under <b>SAP Support Portal -> Download -> SAP Support Packages -> Entry by Application Group -> Support Packages and Patches -> SAP NetWeaver -> SAP NETWEAVER -> SAP NETWEAVER 2004S -> Entry by Component -> Enterprise Portal -> PORTAL FRAMEWORK 7.00 -> #OS independent -> Patch for PORTAL FRAMEWORK 7.00 SP09</b>. Click on the <i>info</i> link, you can check out the patch info, and you will find out that, it included the <b>HTMLB Supports IE7</b> in patch level 4.
Anyway, thank for your suggestion and I appreciate that.
    Thanks,
    HauChee

Guessing here, but you may want to double check your kernal parameters and your OS patch levels. I've seen bad kernal parameters as the root cause of a lot of shared memory issues before.

  • ORA-01788: CONNECT BY clause required in this query block

My Oracle version is: 10.2.0.4.0 (for both DEV and PROD)
Below is the SQL which throws error ORA-01788 on PROD during the execution. I can guarantee that the syntax is right.
Also, the odd thing about this is that, it works fine on the DEV which is the same version as the PROD.
So, could anyone help explain why? Is it a oracle bug?
is there any easy workaround for this?

  • Device history report incredible slow

    Hi,
Our device history report is incredible slow. We have had the same problem from the start using the SAP ME product.
Device history report is very useful, but has no value when it takes 2 minutes to run.
We are running 5.2.5.4 release. Performance in application is good and all other reports are running fast. Debugging shows me that the code could be improved for this report. At one time report was improved to run in "only" 20 seconds.
Last time I think the issue was fixed in SP03 Patch 1. It's really bad for the product that this useful report is this slow.

    Hello Knut Ole,
I would suggest opening a support ticket in order to investigate the performance issue. SQL trace with timing information must be analyzed.
    Regards,
    Alex.

  • Lots of missed calls on my iPhone 3G

Has anyone experienced missed calls on iPhone 3G? I have experienced a great number of missed calls on my brand new iPhone 3G. Lots of calls got directed to my voicemail. My phone never rang... Sometimes when the signal bars indicate the reception is strong, this problem still occurs. I went to the AT&T retail store where I got the phone and was told that I should go to Apple Store. I went to the Apple store in Valley Fair in Santa Clara, CA, but got no help at all... The guys at the Genius Bar in the store were impatient and ignorant...
Any suggestions? Should I reset the phone? Would Apple's latest patch fix the problem?

Too bad noone was willing to help you at either store.
Try this, turn off the 3G radio and see if it improves. If not go back to where you bought it and ask to return or check your provisioning.
3G reception is poor on the iPhone.

I think this patch is "bad" as it has been released... but I have as yet seen no acknowledgement of that. Anyone else tried this patch?!
The machine reboots and runs, but in what state is it left with the new patches running on the old kernel?
I have posted this to other related groups. Thanks. jj.

    JJ,
I downloaded and tried to install this patch this weekend. I am having the same problems. Anyone know where I can get patch 108528-21? I need this for a piece of software I am installing.

  • Bad pixel patch correction in 2D image

In one CCD image (600X800), I have few patches of bad pixels (few are in irregular shapes, few are in regular one like rectangle of 8X8 pixels). For correcting these bad pixel patches, I am looking for some surface fitting function, which should have provision for excluding the defined pixel location.
These bad pixel patches needs to be computed by fitted surface only.

    ashok_kumar wrote:
    HI Thoric,
    Thanks for reply,
When I convert the image in 2D array, bad patches also comes into 2D array.
    of course...
and when I tried interpolation2D.vi, it considers these bad pixels for interpolation also.
I need to exclude these pixels for fitting (interpolation). How to exclude these points ?
    Kindly help.
exactly, and this is where it gets complicated. So long as you know where the good and bad pixels are you can work on subsets of the 2D array that contain only one bad pixel, replacing that bad pixel with an interpolation of the surrounding good pixels. So, try working on 3x3 or 4x4 subsets that each contain only 1 bad pixel and perform the interpolation on each one at a time, putting the new interpolated result back into the original 2D array. With a knowledge of where each bad pixel is you can attack each one singularly.

  • What exactly became of the "bad patches"

Some months ago the http://www.sun.com/forte/developer/hotnews.html page advertising that some BAD patches existed without going into too much detail about them. I experienced an application breaking in DBTools.h++ after applying some recommended patches for Sun Workshop 5 and therefore rolled them back. I even stepped through the debugger and saw erroneous assignements to a template class' constructor arguments.
    My revisions before patching were: 107295-01, 107311-09, 107354-01, 107355-04, 107357-07
The changed revisions after patching were 02, 11, 02, 06, 09 respectively. These are still the recommended patches and I have tried patching a completely unpatched machine at a different site also using DBTools.h++ and seeing it break again.
    Questions are:
Can I obtain the older revision levels of the patches ?
Can someone shed some light on what approach to take to this ?
    Thanks

    Hi Chris,

  • Help please - Bad crashing, freezing, lines and pale patches and more

I wonder if anyone can help me. I am not very technobod and there are progressively awful problems on my Mac until it is now so slow.
I need to fix it before it dies altogether, or I throw it out of the window.....
    Problems:-
Thin black lines randomly appearing across the windows.
Ghosting of windows, they leave another version when moved.
Sometimes windows just white out in areas with scribbly lines like pretend text.
Sometimes windows have large bare patches all of a sudden or go see through
Programs keep just quitting for no reason.
The whole computer just freezes every now and then. Sometimes it waits and returns, occasionally it crashes completely.
It is really painfully slow and can take me considerable minutes to open a new window or get something else up on screen.
The tool bar sometimes goes all skeletal with no background.
Loads more silly things like this... all random.
It is driving me absolutely potty. It's only used by me doing emails, filing pics, designing jam labels, letters, going on forums and things. I don't give it loads to manage unless I'm doing something spectacularly stupid. This computer ought to be big enough to run a design studio....
I have tried mackeeper, found it gave more problems than it solved, and uninstalled that, I've tried Clean my mac and only cleaned some, I left the universal binaries and the Caches alone. I then tried Onyx and fixed some listings (I kept the report) and cleaned up the caches in that, then restarted.
It is now even slower than before I started fixing it, and all of the problems are still here. I've got time machine for back up.
What can be going wrong? Is anyone able to help over the next couple of days?

It has taken me this long to reply to you because it is so slow.

  • Bad patch 118844-30

Just wondering if no one else is having issues with the Sun kernel patches?
A month ago we tried to install 118844-28, which failed to install see http://forum.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=28707&tstart=0
Now they release a new kernel patch, which seem to have the exact same problem.
The patch refuses to install saying that patch 117435-02 must be installed first and machine must be rebooted. The 117435-02 patch came with the installation of the OS.
    From the prepatch script     #
         # biosdev failed. We can still apply the patch if the rootdisk
         # is the same as the bootdisk
         bootdev=`prtconf -v /devices | sed -n '/boot-device/{n;p;}' | grep pci | cut -f 2 -d \'`
         rootdev=`df -k ${BASEDIR:-/} | nawk 'NR > 1 { print $1 }'`
         if [ -n "$bootdev" ] ; then
              ls -l $rootdev | grep $bootdev > /dev/null
              if [ $? = 0 ]; then
                   return 0
              fi
fiRunning prtconf -v /devices will result in the following (among other things)name='bootpath' type=string items=1
                value='/pci@0,0/pci-ide@7/ide@0/cmdk@0,0:a'
    name='bios-boot-device' type=string items=1
value='80'Since they are still using sed -n '/boot-device/{n;p;}' which will return value='80' this patch will fail to install.

I've been trying to upgrade past 118844-26 for a while. This machine started out as a Solaris 10 x86 1/06 DVD install. I experience errors like you guys have listed here. My favorite so far was this, though:
