Patch confusion again

Hi hussein,
I have two (2) instances of EBS 11i named DEV and DEV2. Installed them both separately using rapidwiz.
Scenaro 1:
a) I applied patchA to DEV.
b) I copied the data only (proddata) to DEV2, and run rapdiclone so that the DEV2 instance have the DEV1 database. I mean their database contents are identical, but the appstiers are not because patchA was not applied to DEV2 apps tier side.
My question is can I apply patchA to DEV2 instance just to update the appstier side or the forms executables?
thanks a lot

Hi xyes;
I have two (2) instances of EBS 11i named DEV and DEV2. Installed them both separately using rapidwiz. Those ebs has same patch level?
Scenaro 1:
a) I applied patchA to DEV.
b) I copied the data only (proddata) to DEV2, and run rapdiclone so that the DEV2 instance have the DEV1 database. I mean their database contents are identical, but the appstiers are not because patchA was not applied to DEV2 apps tier side. You mean you run preclone on DEV on dbtier than copy from DEV to DEV2, then post clone db succeded and db is up, so yes we can say DEV db=DEV2 db,but what happen DEV2 original DB?

  • Local patch server confused again

Starting earlier this week, Solaris 10 clients that connect to our local patch server
only report that patch 121118-08 is required. Running `smpatch analyze' a week
ago showed many more patches. After 121118-08 is applied, another `smpatch
analyze' says `No patches required.'. One of these clients needed 139 patches before,
and now needs none! What happened?
Solaris 10 machines that don't go through the local patch server are behaving
normally. Restarting the local patch server didn't help. The local patch server's

and was working a week ago.

Here's a bit more data. Clearly it's the LPS that's messed up. As you can see above the LPS is getting an old current.zip but the LPS host actually gets the correct one when it goes to the same site to get the same file.

  • GB legislative patch confusion

We went live on HR and Payroll in March (11.5.10.2), so of course I then had to look at legislative patches.
Having found note 145837.1, I though this was not too bad, but I am now getting confused.
Just wondered if anyone else has gone through the following and can offer me any advice ....
    1) In the past month or so, patches 6652235, 6825361 have appeared under 11i RUP2 for GB (145837.1) and are still listed in the Change History, but are no longer in the GB section. Why is this ? They do not appear to be have been included in other patches.
    2) I have today found note 123810.1 (Oracle UK Payroll 11i Mandatory Patches). This lists 6811030 - P46 Car Changes, but these P46 updates also appear to be in 6652235.
Do I need both or just 6652235 ?
    3) Similarly, note 123810.l mentions 6786778 (P11D Legislative changes), but these also appear to be in 6825361
If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
    Regards,
    Colin

    Hello,
The communication from Oracle Payroll UK suggests to apply GB Legislative Patch 6825361 (a HRGlobal patch) and 6786778 (for P11D). 6652235 seems to be an older version of 6825361.
As you went live only this March, I think you may have to generate P11D from legacy system. If that's the case then 6786778 can wait.
Please note that Patch 6899505 is another patch for budget changes. The new tax rate is effective from 18-May-2008 and this patch must go into production before that.

  • Ghost Vulnerability patching confusion

    Hi all,
We are currently running ACS v5.4 and were looking to go to patch 7 initially to combat shellshock.
Then GHOST came along so we waited for Cisco's advisory on the best version to go to.
This has now come out and the advisory is less than helpful!!! - https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCus68826
On one habd it seems to say 5.4 is good and on the other that all versions are vulnerable!
Can anybody clarify what patch/version we need to negate the vulnerability please :)
    Document is too confusing!!!
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
I have double checked and all 5.x versions are affected. The fixes are not available for 5.4 or 5.3 but 5.5 and 5.6. Kindly upgrade to get the fixes.

  • Forte 6U2 - patch confusion

While trying to update our compiler to the newest patch set, I ran into the following problem. From access1, patch 111683-14 requires patch 111690-10 or greater to be installed. 111690-10 is not listed on access1 as a patch. When I tried to install 111690-10 after getting it from sunsolve, the patch installation failed, saying that "One or more patch packages included in 111690-10 are not installed on this system."
111690-10 appears to be an update to the Fortran subcomponent of Forte 6U2, (I guess contained in the Hi-perf package), which we did not install, because we don't use fortran. But this is sort of a problem, because it means that we can't install the latest debugger patch.
    Any suggestions?

You can find 111690-10 from access1 at:
    http://access1.sun.com/patch.public/cgi-bin/show_list.cgi/wrk/Forte_Fortran_6u2_SPARC
With the next dbx patch release, the dependency problem will be removed. Please wait until the next dbx patch comes out.

  • CPUJul2010 Patching Confusion

I have installed Grid Control 11.1.0.1 on RHEL 5 64-bit and it is working fine (as far as I can tell). Now that the CPUJul2010 is out, I applied this to several servers, yet the number of "Security Recommendations" have not changed. In GC 10.2.0.5, the number of Oracle Homes would reduce when a CPU was applied. In GC 11.1.0.1, they count the number of databases (or other related objects) running from that Oracle Home, and yet the CPU was applied and the number is not reduced. Anyone have any pointers of where I can look? Trying not to open a SR, but I will if I have to.
    Thanks
    //Karl

Sorry for not being complete in my original posting. Yes, the job does a host refresh, and then I did one by hand. Thinking it was some other process, I waited overnight, and came in this morning, and sure enough the number of Security Recommendations have not changed. When I click on the number, it takes me to a hybrid of Grid Control and My Oracle Support, where it shows each database (if that is what is on your Recommendation list), the server, and which patch it thinks you need to apply. I just want the databases in which I applied this patch to disappear off this list and any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I suggest you read the documentation and try to understand PL/SQL. Then tackle the exams.
The documentation is on line. Good places to start are:
    the PL/SQL User's Guide http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/appdev.920/a96624/toc.htm

You should also check out the SQL reference http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96540/toc.htm , as that has lots of examples of SELECT and DML statements.

  • IPTC confusion - again

    Hi folks,
since I am using LR 2. 3 (64-Bit edition in my case on Win XP 64bit edition) I encounter a problem with the IPTC handling in the XMP files.
Whereas formerly there only existed 1 keyword section, there are now two of them. The keyword list of both is identical.
Does it really make sense to have redundant information?I wonder if this is a bug or a feature.
The problem I do have with this: I am using a special software (Breeze Browser Pro) for years to manage the entire metadata stuff. Now that these two keyword sections exist, I am no longer able to work with the keywords reliable. Some changes are not visible to LR.
(Yes, I intend to not use LR for the metadata editing, since BBPro is much for flexilbe, easy to handle many files and much more quicker in
doing this part of the workflow.)
How does it look like in the XMP file:
    Keywords 1
    <rdf:Description rdf:about=""
        xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">
       <dc:description>
        <rdf:Bag>
--> list of keywords starts here <--
    Keywords 2
    <rdf:Description rdf:about=""
        xmlns:lr="http://ns.adobe.com/lightroom/1.0/">
       <lr:hierarchicalSubject>
        <rdf:Bag>
--> list of keywords starts here <--
Are these two keyword section really necessary?
    Thomas

... though I asked LR to re-read the metadata from the XMP file and they are definitely in the keyword-section starting with
    <rdf:Description rdf:about="" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">
    Hey Thomas!
I'm not sure why this is happening. The section you indicated is using the Dublin Core Metadata Standard which is generally compatible with all standards compliant software that reads/writes IPTC data. I assume BreezBrowser is among these.
The second section where the hierarchical presentation of keywords lives is more adobe centric.
You may have to try some experimentation to see where the process is breaking down.  Make a few copies of some images with the metadata stripped out. One way to do this is to save for web as JPEG from Photoshop.  Put these in their own directory. Import one to LR and give it one keyword. Open the other in BB and give it a different keyword. Then import them each into the other program and assign a third keyword. Something controlled like that to see where the ball gets dropped. Not using hierarchies or synonyms should keep both program concentrating on the section you indicated.
From all indication at both products' websites they support what you are trying to do.

  • [SOLVED] DWM - how do you apply patches with patch?

I'm totally new to dwm (it's working great by the way) and patching. I'm having problems understanding how to use the patch program. The basic usage on dwm site says basically:
    patch -p1 < path/to/patch.diff

Ok thanks but I'm confused again (I know..). I managed to patch the files config.def.h and dwm.c in the source dir and noticed there is yet another config.h file there as well. Now, the in the top level dir with the PKGBUILD I also have a config.h, which is the one I do my config changes. I'm confused because I now have these three header files (2x config.h + config.def.h) which are supposed to have the same source code? I've read around on the net, but haven't gotten any further answers yet. What are the purpose of each config and how should I use/update/manage them when recompiling? This is my situation:

  • CMCOLL patch4 ....... (UPGRADE EP TO THE LATEST PATCH)

    hi,
I successfully installed patch 4 of portal server. Now i want to upgrade it further to patch 29. But before applying this patch, is there any need to apply CMCOLL patch first? Is there any dependency?
For applying CMCOLL patch 4 i am refering to SAP note 736243.
Acc. to it, first i'll have to deploy CMCOLL patch4 thru SDM. and the next step is "Deploy Portal SP2 patch 4 Hotfix 3".
Now here the problem is, before applying hotfix 3, i need to install hotfix 1 and 2.  But if i am applying the next patch to portal server, then there is no need to install the hotfixes for the current patch. And if i am upgrading it (portal server) to the latest patch, then again my first question of dependency 'll arise.... Now i am totally confused.
So in brief, wat i want to do is,
1> upgrade SAP J2EE engine to PL29 : This has been done
2> Patch portal server with PL29 : Patch 4 applied successfully
    3> Patch CM&COLL with PL29 : CM_COLL version=60 SP2 Patch 3 Hotfix 3
    If u want the procedure how i installed patch4 of portal server : EP6 sp2 patch 4  problem .........
    urgent help required ....
    bye n thanx.....

    >>Upgrade CM&COLL to SP2 Patch 4 as described in SAP note 736243
Tht means, b4 this, i need to install hotfix 1 and 2 of portal server. (I dont know whether hotfix 1,2,3,4,8 are avialable for portal server patch 4 and if yes where?)
then while applying CM&COLL patch 4, next step would be apply portal server patch4 hotfix 3.
    >> Apply Hotfix 8 (newest) for Patch 4 as Hotfix 4 is a prerequisite for installing CM&COLL SP2 Patch 5. (SAP Note 786452).
I didnt get, wat to install next? CM&COLL patch 5 or portal server hotfixes ..... and is there ne SAP note available to install CM&COLL patch 5?
and 1 more question, when applying CM&COLL patch4, i need to stop the servlet engines ..... but i dont know how to stop it or rather i dont find it newhere... the only service running in cluster with this name is servlet_jsp .... is this the same service which i need to stop
    reply ASAP ....

  • Questions on Patch Deployment - From older post.

Almost a year ago I had a post with questions on the patch scan process.
    https://forums.novell.com/novell-pro...s-updates.html
I have been reviewing my patch process again due to Student laptop's getting re-imaged this summer. I am hoping I can get some additional information based off the replies from that post.
    1. It was stated that monthly patch bundles were created and deployed. I am unsure how that is best accomplished. If I create an all Microsoft (Windows 7 for example) Patch bundle for each month, yet the workstations it is deployed to may not require the patch, would this not cause the bundle to fail? If it just fails on that section will the remaining patch's continue to deploy?
What is the best way to deploy a monthly patch bundle? In the past I would create a patch bundle through the Patch Management area for Windows 7 but assign to only a single workstation and then go back and assign to the Windows 7 group as a "run on ref" option. Is it better to assign the patch bundle to all nonpatched devices? If this is done will a system that is reimaged and no longer has the patch or a new system created after the bundle create be automatically assigned said bundle?
Any other good strategies for patching systems? I create custom bundles for Adobe, Java, and Quicktime to ensure I control how they are deployed. Java seems to be one that works better when older versions are not installed. This method seems to be working well for those products. It is my MS Windows updates that are way off the mark. I have most of my systems with 60 to 80 patches reported ready. No matter how many times I deploy the patches they never seem to report as patched on the devices (Even tho the bundle reports back as successful). I am getting ready to start an SR since I think this is an issue with the server since so many of my systems are doing this. Good deployment procedures would be nice since I really hate to mess with my Universal WIndows image since it is working so well. Recreating it just to patch it with the latest Windows Updates would be pain.
    Thanks
    Richard

  • Confused by the removal of aggregate/index tables in HANA

    Hiya,
I've heard that HANA removes the need for aggregate and index tables like BSIS, BSAS, VRPMA etc.
Is HANA smart enough to do this? Or does Simple finance (sFIN) do this?
I mean if we were to replace our Oracle DB with HANA would the index tables no longer exist?
Or would we then need to implement simple finance to then remove the need for index tables?
    Thanks in advance!

    "HANA is just the DB."
I wouldn't say it's "just" a DB, but for the point we're making here you can say that SAP HANA is mainly used as a DBMS and not as a application platform.
"To remove index tables, aggregate tables etc you can activate business functions through SFW5 to improve specific lines of business."
That's not generally true. Some enhancements (like the VBOX removal) are delivered via enhancement packages. These change the software, but typically don't make a new product out of your system.
"Installation of sFIN, or S/4HANA contain more deeper changes to both the tables and ABAP code - that improve speed and efficiency."
Nope, these are actual new implementations. These are new programs that do similar things as the former NetWeaver programs. But they are newly written code.
This allows for much more radical redesign of functionality leading (hopefully) to even more improvements.
Coming back to your first sentence: the more radical the software changes the more tightly integrated the solution will be with SAP HANA. More and more function will actually run "in" SAP HANA, making it more than just the DB.
Ok, I hope this didn't increase the confusion again.
    Cheers,
    Lars
