In the doucment under section Applying the Release Update Pack, it is mentioned
Note: As OracleAS 10g Patchset 10.1.3.x for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 document is updated regularly, verify the latest copy of Note 454811.1 (for 10.1.3.5 ) or Note 728531.1 (for 10.1.3.4 ) and apply all required patches mentioned in the document, before upgrading to Release 12.1.2.
As the OracleAS 10g Patchset 10.1.2.3 for Forms and Reports for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 Note 437878.1 document is updated regularly, verify the latest copy of Note 437878.1 and apply all required patches that are mentioned in this document before upgrading to Release 12.1.2.Is this step need to be done before uprgading ?

Patch Select Confusion

Hi all,
I select my patches with a food pedal ("next patch") During my gig yesterday I had a very nice situation: I touched the pedal and the next patch was selected but it didnot stop there it went on and on and on and jumped from one patch to the next. I just could not stop it. Great! We had to interrupt the performance.
Question: I use a Kurzweil k 2000 as a master keyboard. Has anyone experiences with that gear? Is it a problem of the pedal? Of the keyboard? Something else? For some reasons midi signals are send to MS, but why?
After the gig I worked for about 2 hours with the same setup and everything was fine. Hmm. any ideas?

Hi all,
for thouse who are interested, maybe I found the reason: I read in the k 2000 manual that if you use the k 2000 as a midi contoller only, it's important that you set the midi to "midi" because if it's set to "both" (=midi can be send to the keyboard and to MS) a so called "midi loop" can happen and I think that that happend to me during the gig.
Last two gigs no problems happend...

Local patch server confused again

Starting earlier this week, Solaris 10 clients that connect to our local patch server
only report that patch 121118-08 is required. Running `smpatch analyze' a week
ago showed many more patches. After 121118-08 is applied, another `smpatch
analyze' says `No patches required.'. One of these clients needed 139 patches before,
and now needs none! What happened?
Solaris 10 machines that don't go through the local patch server are behaving
normally. Restarting the local patch server didn't help. The local patch server's
URL is `https://getupdates1.sun.com/solaris/'. It hasn't been changed for some time,
and was working a week ago.

Here's a bit more data. Clearly it's the LPS that's messed up. As you can see above the LPS is getting an old current.zip but the LPS host actually gets the correct one when it goes to the same site to get the same file.

Patching dual stacks ABAP + JAVA simultaneously

Hi,
I would like to know if I can patch ABAP and JAVA on a dual stack system at the same time. According to the patching document I can run an SGEN when the JSPM is running but it does not tell me why I can not patch a dual stack system simultaneously. I have discovered that the JSPM restarts the dispatcher in order to update itself. After this initial step the ABAP stack should remain available providing the kernel has been manually updated.
Does anyone have any advice on this?

Hi,
I had a similar case where I had to install a java stack for an already existing CRM system running on Windows/SQL Server.
I installed a different SID for Java on the same host and I installed the Java database as a second database in the same SQL server engine.
Therefore I shared the hardware resources but still had 2 separate stacks as best practice.

Evdev + logitech mx510 + xorg patches

I've been trying to get my Logitech Mx510 mouse (10 buttons) working for 2 weeks, on and off, and finally realized today that I would have to patch and rebuild XOrg to make it work.
I know what's required, and I know how to do it, but the technical parts are over my head (patch files confuse me to no end).
Would someone else be willing to help me out with this? I think that several people (fellow gamers? ) could benefit from having a fully working 7+ button mouse.
Anyways, using the default XOrg PKGBUILD + new patches should work fine, but the Gentoo patches have to be re-written to work with Arch.

No need to rewrite the Gentoo patches. Just apply the following patch to the the original xorg PKGBUILD:

Apply patch without database

Hi, I install oracle 11.2.0.1 software without db to my os.
Before creating a new database I want to apply the patches which this version needs.
Is this possible or should I create db and apply the patches later? In patch document,
it mentions the steps as I already have db. Thanks.

When you choose "custom", the script that gets generated to create your database starts with nothing and does a CREATE DATABASE. So your database is created from the git-go with the patched system. If you chose one of the pre-defined database types, it gets created by restoring a 'seed' database that was most likely created at the base level, so would need to have the database portion of any patches applied.
I never use the pre-defined databases, for this very reason.
(PS it would be very educational for you to go through dbca twice, once for a pre-defined db, and once for a custom. At the end, simply select 'create scripts' WITHOUT actually creating the database. Then study the scripts.)

Question: Does it means that moving foward, the released dates for critical patch will be on the Tuesday closest to the 17th day of January, April, July and October even for 2014 and 1025 unless further notice from Oracle?
Am coming out with a patching document so thinking if the dates are actually fixed now.

If you are having problems with updatemanager and/or smpatch we should be able to assist you, however if you wish a speedy resolution we would suggest that you raise a support call with your local solutions centre.
Using smpatch, when configured properly, isn't all that bad. Yes it could be a lot quicker, and it does have problems from time to time, but is due to be 'replaced' by a new framework based on the UCE engine. We're still not sure how that's going to turn out, so watch this space. As for whether smpatch works outside of Sun, yes, I can say that it does - I even got it running perfectly well on an Ultra 1 with Solaris 8 at home, even when configured to use another Solaris 9 box as an LPS.
I much prefer the command line smpatch to the GUI updatemanager, but as they say, each to their own.
If you are really that unhappy using smpatch then there are alternatives. Sun also provide patch clusters (as already mentioned) along with the enterprise class software Sun Connection (formally UCE / Aduva).
If you want to look outside of Sun then there is always PCA, which I'm sure you'll find using google. Please note that we do not support PCA in any shape or form, so if it breaks your system, don't blame us for the breakage.

This is first time i am implementing 2 node RAC.
I Installed Grid and Database successfully, and my RAC instance working fine.
My Concern is,
I want to test thoroughly my RAC instance, require tips.
I want post installation steps and Patches for the database and grid, Kindly provide me.
Because i searched some documents but still got confusion, can you please provide the patches.

But the Patch:12419378 it is taking too long time, because i started almost 1 hour back but it seems it is stopping at Patching component oracle.ldap.rsf.ic, 11.2.0.1.0..
what could be the reason? is it take long time at this stage?

Manual Segment Management - Learning Question

I'm currently trying to learn as much as I can and am still new at it. Does anyone know of a good book or link that talks about manual segment management? Most of what I have found is a very short blurb that doesn't really discuss specifics. I would like to know what tasks a dba needs to regularly do when a tablespace is set up as manual.
I feel pretty confused and have a specific question*. Sorry if it is a dumb question... I know a lot of you don't like questions that you feel are beneath you. If you don't like the question, please just ignore it and don't gripe me out.
If the datafile is set to autoextend and the segment management is manual and the extent management is local is there any specific task a dba needs to perform for autoextend to work? ( I guess the mixing of manual and auto terms is kind of confusing me) In this specific instance I am most interested in the system tablespace specifically (the dev box I'm learning on is setup that way).

You should not be creating any object in the system tablespace. All user objects should be in the users tablespace, or other tablespace created for the purpose.
The only objects in the system tablespace are those created by the Oracle install scripts (e.g $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/catalog.sql) , and you really should not be making changes to them unless recommended by Oracle Support, install document, patch document etc. The only thing you need to check is to either :-
1. make sure there is free space in the system tablespace by resizing the datafiles (select from dba_free_space and dba_data_files)
or
2. make sure autoextend is turned on for one system tablespace datafile with proper maxbytes and increment_by, and sufficient free space on disk for the file to extend.

Error while click on the accounts created in AD

Recently we have installed IDM 8.0 and mYsql as a idm repository.Started creating users in domain controller with default attributes after succesfull configuration of Active directory resource .It all works fine for creating the user.After created the user in Active directory when i clicking the user account in IDM console to see the assignment or to update anything I am getting the following error.I enabled from trace workflow and gateway logs.However this not happend in IDM 7.1...Please help me out where should I go to debug and resolve the issue.Thanks in advance for all

We have installed IDM80 gateway software on domain controller.Its a brand new server.We didnt install any pacthes for IDM80..We just installed gateway software that come along with IDM 80 bundle.Do I need install the patch for gateway?
