Patch for Symbian Anna released? (Nokia E7)

Hi All
I am not sure what is going on.
My E7 was serviced by NOKIA care Point one week ago. Phone came back to me with Symbian Anna and all updates applied (I checked it same day the phone was back)
Today, when checking Applications>SW Update I noticed this:
My Question is:
Is this update about patch for Symbian Anna?
Because here are details of my system:
I am confused because same set of updates came from Nokia when I was updating from Symbian^3 to Anna.
Can any one explain this?

let me give you some more flashes:
1. 7370 reset will tell you that all the 3 updates are required.
2. after doing so, ovi store will not work.
3. you will scour this forum and find out that you have to install 3 files, in proper sequence, reboot system.
4. bad luck.
5. then you will try 3 button reset
6. WOW. ovi store will work after the similar 3 file anna update
7. you will call nokia care line
8. they will tell you that 3 button reset is not nokia recommended and that you will have to "reflash" your device
9. you will lose your cool, especially after having come from the same place already
10. then you will scream out loud in this forum.
11. you will get used to the problem or you will optimistally wait for Belle.
whew... sometimes, i tend to think that if the above process is standard in one order or the other, there is no need for this forum! nokia can post this in a website itself as a
if... then... else... code prose!

  • Nokia offers free download for Symbian Anna

Symbian Anna – the latest software update for Nokia’s Symbian smartphones – is now available for download in the Philippines.
Symbian Anna significantly enhances the user experience on the Nokia N8, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01 and Nokia E7. A new user interface, virtual QWERTY keypad in portrait mode, split-screen messaging, enhanced Nokia Maps, better web browsing and stronger security are just a few of the improvements that people will be able to enjoy. Symbian Anna can be downloaded using the latest version of Ovi Suite (version 3.1.1) on a PC, or over-the-air directly to your smartphone.
"Nokia’s Symbian smartphones are used by millions of people around the world every day, addressing specific consumer needs and providing choices at many price points," said Mike Smith, Device Portfolio Manager, Nokia Philippines. "Symbian Anna represents a significant update to the experience of those users. It also demonstrates our ongoing commitment to Symbian, which still headlines the next 10 phones that Nokia will introduce over the next 12 months. Moreover, it signifies our thrust to continuously bring updates to the user experience and support for the software until at least 2016."
Below are some of the key features of the Symbian Anna:
New user interface: Symbian Anna brings a fresh new look and feel to the Nokia N8, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01 and Nokia E7 with crisp icons and multiple usability enhancements. Typing on the touchscreen is much easier with a split screen, so you can see message threads, webpages, contacts or email view while typing on the virtual QWERTY keypad – now also available in portrait mode.
Better maps and navigation: Symbian Anna enhances Nokia Maps with better search functionality, new public transportation routes and the ability to check-in to favorite geo-social network sites like Facebook, Foursquare and Twitter. Users can also share their location via email and SMS, even to non-Nokia phones.
Faster browsing experience: A faster, easier-to-use browser delivering quicker page loads and improved device navigation allows people to connect more easily to their favorite sites on the go.
Stronger security for better business: Symbian Anna brings true business-grade security with improved data encryption on Nokia smartphones. Business users with a Nokia N8, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01 or Nokia E7 can now easily and securely access their company intranet with IPSEC and SSL VPN enablers.
Near Field Communications (NFC) availability for Nokia C7: The Symbian Anna software update also activates the NFC hardware in the Nokia C7, so people can now simply tap their Nokia C7s together to share contacts, photos, videos and play games; easily pair with NFC-enabled accessories from Nokia and others; and read NFC tags to check-in and more.
Business users will also benefit from more features offered by Symbian Anna. Enjoy instant messaging and presence with Microsoft Communicator Mobile. E-mail enhancements are also provided, including full meeting request support.

  • Continued development for Symbian Anna?

    All,
With the eminent release of the E6 and the Nokia/Windows future are any developers still interested in creating apps for Symbian Anna?  I'm more interested in 'useful' apps (book reader apps, checkbook/financial, database integration, etc.) instead of games and music.
I love my E62, but it's just so slow and of course has it's own data transmission limitations.  The E6 looks particularly exciting, but I would want to use it for several years to come as I don't upgrade phones that often.  Maybe I should limp along until a Nokia Windows business phone is released (a scary thought).
I'd like to hear your thoughts on the matter.  Thanks!

The statement was "until 2016", if I recall, which might just as well mean that the last new Symbian models will be done in 2013, but sold (if anyone still buys)  and supported (spare parts, warranty, possibly some sw updates) for 2014, 2015.
Nokia's smartphone sales (all models combined, all Symbian) for the last quarter (Apr-Jun) already dropped by 30% with - for the first time in about 15 years - other companies bypassing Nokia in smartphone sales (Apple, Samsung).
Time will tell, of course, but the if Symbian phones are not selling (people are not buying), Nokia is not going to keep making them.

  • Australian Symbian Anna release

    Hi Skyee,
Could you please make clear the processes going on as to the intended release date for Symbian Anna for Australian N8, C7 etc vanilla handset users? Will Symbian Anna be released in Australia for vanilla handsets before Symbian Anna is released for non vanilla handsets? As I am reading it in this forum, it seems that those of us (of which I am one) who have vanilla handsets, have to wait until the various carriers in Australia test/approve Symbian Anna before Symbian Anna is released for vanilla handsets. Is this the case and could this be clarified asap?
    Cheers.

Symbian Anna for Australia is slated for release in the next couple of weeks... Check this out...

I've been pretty patient compared to most of the people on this forum/in this thread. Next couple of weeks for the USA, Canada and Australia?! Oh come on!
Waiting and waiting for simple things like a split screen calendar, a portrait qwerty (mainly for touch devices like N8) and being able to add a caption to photos before sharing them to facebook, is getting tiring.
Personally I have kinda given up on the whole Anna thing, it's a mess now, it's not something people like me can just say, oh well, just another couple of weeks...my patience has run out.
Basically I'm done with checking this forum every day for skyee's messages. I'm just going to wait for December/January and simply wait for Symbian Belle. If Anna is needed in order to get Belle, I'll install it for a day then go straight to Belle. I can't spend the next 2 weeks checking to see if Anna has been released yet. It's silly now. August 18th with all that fuss and fanfare. And it'll be around October 15th before we (might) see it in these countries. People will tell me to install the Anna version from the internet, but I'm not doing that. My E7 runs just fine without screwing it up like that.
This is poor, Nokia. Very poor.
    Nokias: 232, 3210, 3330, 6230, 6101, 6021, 6126, E75, E73, N900, N8, E6, E7, N9. There's a Samsung in there somewhere too, but...we don't talk about that.

" Nokia Australia There is a Mail for Exchange bug and also an emergency call display issue ie. the phone can still make emergency calls but the UI on the phone doesn't show that it can."
Can't believe minor bugs take so long to iron out... but at least its on its way...
Oh btw... stop fussing over Anna, its just a entree for the main course: Belle!!!
complain when Belle is delayed :L
with Anna your not missing much tbh...  <im in Aus btw... and tried Anna and Belle>
MODERATOR'S NOTE: Post has been edited as you have mentioned a procedure that is illegal. Use of it may cause unforeseen damage to the device which in turn invalidates the warranty of the handset; therefore we do not allow this to be discussed in an official Nokia forum.

  • Clarification on 025.007 for Symbian Anna products

    Hi all,
as you might have noticed we started rolling out a new update version for the Symbian Anna products.
025.007 only contains some error fixes and is therefore not a mandatory update for N8/C7/C6-01/E7/E6/X7. This means, that not all countries/operators will test and approve this version. The rollout is happening in waves, depending on lcoal testing and approval. If you want to get a notification when the update is available for your phone, please switch on the software update auto check. (You can find it under Options in your phone’s Software Update App.)
    BR,
    yvonne

I received a symbian Anna service pack of size 1040KB which when installed did not change the version to 025,but said it was meant for usability improvements. It will give me better scrolling in messages and help me get quick location info on photos plus more(it was not mentioned what exactly is this "plus").However it added conversation appl, java run time and conversation server to my installed files list.

  • Map updates for Symbian version of Nokia Maps/Driv...

The last map update I had for my Nokia 808 is from back in April of this year.
Is Nokia no longer providing map updates for the Symbian version of Nokia Maps/Drive software?
This would be VERY disappointing if so.
Please respond, and not ignore this question.
    thank you

    thanks!
But sadly Nokia didn't even have the manners to respond in that thread either.. so there is still no answer.
I just dropped $550 on a Nokia 808 Pureview, with the assumption that I will have good GPS software...
Now Nokia is abandoning map updates for symbian?
I will be outraged if this is the case..
    NOKIA please respond!!

  • First patch for the non-released 9iAS 9.0.4

Today I mentioned the first patch is released for 9ias 9.0.4 (patch 3089193). Strange that Oracle already releases patches for a product that itself has not been released yet. Is it that difficult to implement that patch into the base version? I heard that we may expect 9iAS 9.0.4 around september/october so there should be time enough.

Well -- to respond to the patches...
9.0.2.1 core patchset breaks my Jdev/BC4J application with an error indicating the BC4J tables couldn't be updated
So, I try 9.0.2.2 patch. Can't get past installation instructions (posted message yesterday about this -- no response yet).
javax.naming.CommunicationException: webdev1.softmatic.esoftmatic.com:4031. Root exception is java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: object is not an instance of declaring class
Patches have definitely not helped here.
    To be constructive:
    1) Looking for 9.0.4 release to allow clustering of OC4J processes even if installed with reports/forms (i.e. allow me to use EM to cluster, even if EM can't cluster the reports servers). It would be nicer to have EM cluster reports services too, but probably need smart way of updating CGICMD.DAT, for example. I could deal with just clustering the OC4J portions, but to prevent me from doing it because I've installed the "business intelligence" is frustrating because I know the capability is there -- I just can't get there because we use the reports too.
    2) Looking for text/xml/configuration files on NT to use Windows CRLF (cgicmd.dat, opmn.xml, etc). Annoying, especially since I have to document the installation procedures for disaster recovery and need to include unix to dos type utilities, etc. Getting a real editor isn't my problem, it's the disaster recovery plan where you can't count on people knowing how to deal with it themselves.
    3) Looking for way to deploy 9.0.3 JDeveloper BC4J to 9.0.2 safely (docs say you can't)...As a generalization, allow deployment of newer jdev/bc4j libraries with the applications. The "tightness" of BC4J within 9iAS causes issues. Development environments are updated more regularly than production -- hence the ability to fully deploy newer applications to the older app servers is key.
There are probably others... but those topics seem to not come up in the forums.
    Jeff

I'm looking to upgrade to a S60 phone (6720 classic) from my S40 phone (6233) howevern I've noticed that the calendar in the S60 phone is a downgrade from that of the S40 - it doesn't have birthdays or other features (not even recurring anniversaries).  Can anyone recommend a third party calendar - it doesn't need to be fancy, just replicate the old S40 calendar features, or is Nokia about to release an upgrade for this?

i doubt they will revamp the calendar unless the Foundation decides to do it with future os releases. as it stands this has been the calendar case for s60 devices.

  • Smilies in Symbian Anna SP1, Nokia E7

    Hello!
There is such problem. I need to send SMS in bank. At work with bank certain format SMS of messages is required. In this format it is used symbols "8)". At the moment of input of these symbols everything is all right. On the screen they are displayed correctly. But in sent SMS they automatically it is replaced with a smilie. It does SMS the message wrong for bank and I cannot carry out the operation. Whether there is a possibility to disconnect these smilies or it is a system bug? Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have made many attempts to correct a situation. I can make nothing. Because of these smiles I cannot use service of mobile bank from the E7. The format of inquiries of mobile bank in last parametre has(xxxx), where xxxx - 4 last digits of number of a card. When I type in SMS inquiry of mobile bank, outwardly, all looks normally. But after sending SMS, the inquiry in which last digit  of number of a card and closing parentheses are replaced with a smile comes to bank. I see it when I look a folder Sent. A question for me is very serious. My smiles are not necessary to bank. Correctly generated inquiry which I cannot make is necessary to it. I address to experts. Please, help me to solve this problem.

  • Nokia E6 or Symbian Anna Bug ?

Nokia really needs to update nokia E6 Firmware to resolve the bugs regarding no call waiting or divert onscreen notification
    whats wrong guys ?
This feature is always present in any other cellphone but in Symbian Anna or E6 does`nt show if the caller is already on another call or the calling number is on divert.
my nokia E5 can show if the number called is on divert or already on call (Waiting notification)
Nokia kindly reply or anyone can eloborate from Nokia Team or Any Technical Advisor ?
These two features are really mandatory in any other cellphone but why not in Symbian Anna or Nokia E6 ?

I live in Bucharest, Romania, and have the same problem since more than two months now! I called Nokia customer support and, after having waited for two weeks, they called me back to say they checked with their "headquarters" and that there's no way the phone has such a problem... That this function works perfectly in Finland etc. They advised me to go to the Nokia Care center to get the phone fixed... So I went there. In order for them not to claim anything else later, I asked the Nokia Care clerk to call another number from his mobile and meanwhile I called him from my old Nokia E71. The "Waiting" sign appeared immediately. Then I put the same SIM card into the brand new Nokia E6 and did the same test but no "Waiting" appeared...!!! They kept my phone there for another 15 days, and, at the end they told me that the Symbian Anna doesn't (yet) support this function... And guess what: I found out the E7 (the new Nokia Communicator) has the same issue.... Why? Because it also carries the... Symbian Anna! Honestly speaking, this "Waiting" function that Nokia had but Blackberry didn't still kept me with Nokia... But with this one gone, I really have no other reasons to stick to Nokia... Pity, Nokia, that you're sinking like this...But before you do, just let me hope for another week: are you going to fix this shortcoming with a new software update or do you really not care anymore???
Honestly, people: when someone buys the latest, state-of-the-art phone, it expects that it shall feature much more WITHOUT giving up on the main functions that made them what they are... It's like buying an Audi because it has the best 4x4 Quattro system, only to discover that the shiny car doesn't have it anymore and no one has told you...!The fact that you guys at Nokia have put out a phone missing a basic, IMPORTANT function that nearly all previous releases had is abuse of trust to us, your buyers. May I say in my case I felt like I got stolen the money I spent buying this phone... And the Nokia corporate reactions I went through in order to solve this issue were simply pathetic... Too bad, and I'm genuinely bitter with this experience... !
