Patch level Oracle client
Hi,
Does the Oracle client needs be on the same patch level as the Oracle database (10.2.0.4)?
Your answere is appreciated.
Hi,
Patchsets are recommended when you have problems with your installation or when you need to get to a higher version to keep on having full support. For example, for some platforms it would be necessary to upgrade to 10.2.0.4 database version before March 2009 to keep on having full support. If you are having no issues I think its not necessary to upgrade your client. If you want to be sure of the supported versions of every product you can check it at [metalink.oracle.com].
If this answered your question or was helpful please qualify.
Thanks!!!

I have a question about oracle patching e.g. 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.4
We do patching of 10.2.0.4 for 10.2.0.1 on oracle server.
Just wanted to know do we also perform patching on oracle client also?
If yes then what is the advantage/purpose to do that?
Thanks,CKPT wrote:

Sir, i am confused with both your contradictory answers.... :)
As per 1 reply we do patching for enhancements but i gues those will be helpful/useful at server side at the database level....
how it wil useful for client side? This will help in preventing the issues which are result of client-side software code. F. ex. I can recall daylight savings time fix in 9.2.0.x (don't remember the exact patch number now, but I think it was 8) which included patching both client and server software.OP question is on We do patching of 10.2.0.4 for 10.2.0.1 on oracle server
My answer included an "example". It has nothing to do with the versions that OP has mentioned. -

Patch for Oracle Client Software
Hi,
i have download oracle 10.2.0.5 patch set on the Oracle server..
i have a Oracle client machine with oracle 10.2.0.4 client.
Can i install the same patch in the Oracle client machine?Hi,
Ok let me explain in detail
First there will not be any separate client patchset or client software and you need apply the server patchset to client
what will happen?
Only client related components will be upgraded.
server will consists of lot of other components compare to client
but when you upgrade client, only client related components will upgraded it will not touch the other components
Note: make sure that you have a valid oracle client backup ie 10.2.0.4.

How to get and install 10.2.0.3 patch for Oracle XE (express)
Total newby here, pardon the stupid question....
I've installed Oracle XE but I've been told I need the patch that updates the database to 10.2.0.3. I can only find a patch for Vista, I'm on XP. When I go to the metalink(?) page it says I need to have a support ID.
How do I get a support ID (free) for XE, or is there something I'm missing.
Thx,
Mark1) Just for sanity, I'm assuming that you posted a Metalink Note ID, not a bug. Metalink Note 334968.1 refers to bug 3807408.
2) The patches referenced in that bug would appear to relate to the Oracle client. Assuming proper licenses, I would expect that you could patch the Oracle clients accessing the XE database and resolve the issue.
3) The Metalink note references an alternate workaround of installing Visual Studio in a non-default location that doesn't include parenthesis.

RegardsWhich begs the question . . . do you need to upgrade the client? There is nothing fundamentally wrong with using a 10.2.0.1 client against a 10.2.0.5 database. -
It is giving this exception
OUI-10133:Invalid stage area. There are no top level components for Windows NT, Windows 2000 available for installation inthis staging area.
The OS is Windows Server 2003 R2. I have just installed Oracle Client 10.2.0.1 and trying to apply patch of 10.2.0.3 Its urgent. Thanx in advanceI was able to install this patch on Windows 2003 R2.
When it asks for the install home it will just make one up. If you click in the box (it looks grayed out) you will see the REAL home. Highlight that and then continue. It should install fine after that. -

Can i do client export import between systems with different patch levels
we want to do a client export import between two systems. As I understand the patch levels should be the same in both for this to happen..
But right now I am in a situation where time is a big constrant. The basis patch level is on par. But the rest are not. Can I do client import successfully at this stage. The only thing that may stop it working could be additional functionality between the systems.
I work on XI and there is a huge difference between SP12 and SP15. We were able to do the transports between systems, but as Dev was patched before QA, and the transport was reliant on standard settings not being available, it still went though, but we had to transport it again after applying SP15 to QA.
Again, it probably depends on what System you have running on Netweaver... -

Oracle Database Lite Administration and Deployment Guide Release 10.3 (E12089-02)
7.4.3.1 Enable a Platform for Your Mobile Client
Not all of the possible platforms are enabled on the Mobile client setup screen. To enable a platform for your client device, do the following:
On the Mobile Devices screen, click Platforms.
On the Platforms screen in the Search pulldowns, select the language and either Disabled or All and click Go.
Select the platform name that you want to enable.
Enable the device by selecting Yes in the Enable pulldown.
Click OK. The device is now enabled and will be visible in the client setup screen.
=====================================================================
I was on the Platform screen before, but missed the "Enabled" setting under Search. I looked at the screen and saw only the enabled list, and assumed this was 'all' of the platforms....
Once I switched the search setting from "Enabled" to "All" I saw my disabled SQLite options.
7.4.3.1 was under 7.4.3 Extend or Create a Custom Platform. Wasn't trying to do either of these, so never looked under there before. Only ran into it when I was going to attempt to create a custom SQLite platform.
I thought it was just a bad setting somewhere.... Just couldn't find where....
Thanks for all who looked at my question and userBDBDMS-Oracle for trying to help. -
To make patch level same to do client copy
Hi, I would like to do client copy between two systems but currently patch levels are different. How to download and upload patches from marketplace. Thanks, Sam
Hi Sam,
To acquire the support packs you need to set up a 'maintenance transaction' in Maintenance Optimizer in your Solution Manager system. Maintenance Optimizer will determine the appropriate support packs and put them into a download basket for you and then approve them for download. Once you've done that, then you can download the support packs from the Service Marketplace and apply them to your system with SPAM. You can manually put the support packs you want into a download basket directly on the Service Marketplace, but you won't be able to download them until you approve them via Solution Manager. The reason for this is to ensure you are downloading a consistent and appropriate set of support packs.
How many clients do you use on the target system? If it's only one, then perhaps a system copy would be more effective than a client copy.

Patch levels for Oracle and kernel
Hi everyone,
Can you pls tell what are the maximum and minimum patch levels that can be used for BW 3.5 installation on LINUX RHEL 4 ,
oracle -10.2.0.2 & kernel - 6.4 .
Thanks in advance,
Praveenhi people,
we have checked for the status of support package in Transaction SPAM traffic signal is still red and in the Phase RUN_SPAU_? it is stuck and even after restarting import it shows clean-up phase is left and it ends with same error mention above
the support package name is SAPKB70014 size is 116266 MB now after restarting the Import the following error message comes
The import was stopped, since an error occurred during the phase RUN_SPAU_?,
which the Support Package Manager is unable to resolve without your input.
After you have corrected the cause of the error, continue with the
import by choosing Support Package -> Import queue from the initial
screen of the Support Package Manager.
The following details help you to analyze the problem:
- Error in phase: RUN_SPAU_?
- Reason for error: TP_CANNOT_CONNECT_SYSTEM
- Return code: 0255
- Error message: Could not connect to semaphore server
we run all the phase in background, and even after entering the support package number in transaction SPAU there it is showing
"No objects within selected filter parameteres"
Q.1 Any idea what went wrong and how to fix that?
Q.2 Is there any problem if we run the all four phases of support package in background or it should be run in dialog
latest tp & R3trans updated? -
What's the latest patch for oracle 10g client?
what's the latest patch for oracle 10g client? 6810189?
The same as the patch for the Oracle database of the same version and operating system. Since you didn't specify the operating system or the particular Oracle version (10g could mean 10.1 or 10.2), it's hard to be more specific.

Hey guys,
I have a query regarding Oracle patches/CPUs. Are there normally any Oracle client only patches avaiable?
I know that you get the server patches and CPUs where you upgrade the server and the client gets updated too (provided they share the Oracle Home).
But would there be any patches/CPUs that are applicable to clients only?
The platforms I'm interested in are:- Windows 32bit & Solaris SPARC 64bit.
Thanks in advanceThere is nothing much really to it. We (my company) recommend certain Oracle CPU patches to be updated clients and servers.
If they are the same version and on the same system, it is no problem.
But if the client and server are of different versions and on different systems, we recommend to install certain client CPU patches and certain server CPU patches.
I believe that there is no 'client-only' CPU patch and as confirmed by others in this thread.
Which is why I wanted to whether there is a 'server-only' installation where CPU patches would be applied only to server rather than the client.
I hope it makes sense!
Thanks.
