Patch Manager for Solaris 9 9/05

I am trying to locate the Patch Manager download for Solaris 9 9/05 but all I have been able to locate on the downloads site is the version for Solaris 8. Does anyone have a link to the Solaris 9 version? Thanks.

Exactly, whith that configuration all works well (if my server is connected to Internet).
The problem is when I have another server, not connected to Internet, that requires new patches.
If I have good understood I can install patch manager(2.0) on that server, require patches to my local patch server and if the patches required aren't on the disk the local patch server requires them to Sun. During this request it seems that my local patch server doesn't connect trough the proxy (snoop doesn't report connections). even if the configuration is set. (I have tried a reboot too).

  • Patch manager for sol9 missing some recommended patches

I just tried cross checking a machine that was completely up to date according to patch manager with the Sol 9 recommended patch set.
The recommended patch set included the following patches that patch manager doesnt appear to distribute.
    114049, 111711, 111712, 119211.
I would have thought anything that was important enough to be included in the recommended patch set was worth distributing through patch manager.
In particular, 114049 and 119211 appear to have security implications.

    Hi Robert,
This forum is for Sun update Connection problems on Solaris 10 only.
I cannot give you reply as to why Patch manager for sol9 missing is some recommended patches. I will email an internal email alias and try to find out.

  • Patch management for your remote/mobile workforce

Curious to know how folks are handling patch management for their remote users. Many of my laptop users are not tied to our local office or even to our VPN connection. They are however more often than not connected to the internet so it would be nice to find a patching product that can patch them over the internet. I know logmein has a patch management module but there's no way I'm upgrading to that level.
    Any other options out there?

  • Kernel patch updation for solaris 10 x86

I have Solaris 10 06/06 installed on x86 machine which is using svm and clustered with another node. The kernel revision is 118855-19 from the uname -a output. I am looking for the kernel patch updation and I heard 118855-36 is the latest one. Shall I go ahead with this patch and what r the dependency patches for this.
If anyone done this please guide me..

Patch 118855-36 is the latest kernel patch for Solaris 10 on x86 and its dependencies are:
    113000-01 117435-02 118344-14 119043-09 119255-14 121264-01 122035-01 123840-01 (or greater)
Whether you should go ahead and install the patch is up to you, if possible try it out on a test box first. For better advice on this matter, I would suggest posting in the Solaris 10 forum as this forum is for the Sun Update Connection, Patch Manager & PatchPro toolsets.

    RPS

    Hello,
we are currently using solaris 9 with veritas volume manager 3.5.So i would like to know if i upgrade to solaris 10 06/06.whether i can use 3.5 or not.
Using the Veritas (Symantec) support site, I have found the following document
VERITAS Storage Solutions 3.5 Maintenance Pack 4 for Solaris
    http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/278582.htm
The latest supported version listed for VxVM 3.5 with MP4 applied is Solaris 9. That means the answer is NO.
I understand that searching the Veritas knowledge base might be tough and time consuming, but it's their product ...

For Solaris 10 x86 the latest offered with smpatch is 125101-07 and yes it may be recommended to patch. Then again you said clustered with sun cluster? You may want to check the documentation and if your machines aren't facing the internet you may wait for 7/07 to hit the street and do an upgrade.

    1) Go to http://Metalink.oracle.com
    2) Then click on the link at the top with text:
==> Click here for Patches released after February 19, 2001 and for all Application Patches. "
    3) Then Choose
    Product family = oracle developer
Platform = Solaris or anything you wish
Limit Search to = Latest Product Patchsets or Minipacks
You should be able to see the patchset you are asking for. If you are looking for a one-off patch then select the default "all product patches" for the option "Limit search to".

  • Patch 140476-01 breaks update manager for Solaris 9.

I just noticed that deferred patches werent being applied on my solaris 9 machines.
It turns out that patch 140476-01 which updates the certificates also manages to delete the file /etc/init.d/installupdates.
Since that shutdown script is the thing that applies the deferred patches, not surprisingly they're no longer being installed.
That file is no longer needed on solaris 10 since it got converted to a service, but its still needed on solaris 9...
It seems lately that the update connection software gets broken with monotonous regularity.
The solaris 10 version is finally working properly again after many months. But now the solaris 9 version is broken.
    Not your best work, Sun...

    Forum Moderator:
While most of my systems are Solaris 10, I still have one rarely used S9 system that has 140476-01 that deleted /etc/init.d/installupdates. Is there any update on when we can expect 140476-02 (presumably ....) that will fix this issue?
    Thanks,
    John
p.s. From my perspective, updatemanager has been working very nicely on S10_x86 for several months .... I have not experienced any of the "hanging" during the installation of multiple patches that were problematic for some time. Thank you and your updatemanager colleagues for your diligence in improving this important tool.

  • Recent changes in patch entitlement for Solaris 10 sparc systems?

Have there been any, especially those which non-contract customers should know about?
I am running Sol 10 u3 sparc on a Sun Blade workstation. Today, I noticed that some patches already installed on my system are now considered private on SunSolve (e.g. 143510-01). Also, kernel patch 142900-04 is private! I've been using SUM to get kernel patches forever (I am at 142900-03). What happened? Hopefully this is just a glitch. I can't believe that kernel patches will be private from now on!
There is a certain Xsun security patch which I have deliberately not installed. For years, it has come up in SUM. Today, for the first time, it is gone.
I am also running Sol 10 u8 on an x86 system. No problem with patches there - all normal. I installed kernel patch 142901-04 on it today. Also without a support contract.
    What is going on?

    Gary,
That is a great idea. I've been wondering about other ways Oracle could handle this issue, such as charging per patch, etc. This issue applies very much to Sun Studio 12.1 (see other recent thread about SS patches in this forum). There is NO WAY I, or the organization I work for, could justify spending $1,000+ per year just for SS patches. $300+/year for OS patches may be doable, but still probably wouldn't be worth it, unless SEVERE security holes are discovered that must be patched immediately, which I have never found to be the case over the last 8 years.
Your idea sounds like an ideal solution, but I fear that it is highly unlikely that Oracle would consider it. That would make some manager look bad in having to change his/her "great plan." Oracle should find some way to differentiate big "enterprise" Solaris users from 1-2 box shops who can't afford these pricey support contracts, but still depend on Solaris. For the last 7 years, public patches and these forums have done the job for me, and I have NEVER had to initiate a service or support call or request. That is testament to the stability of Solaris and the brilliance of its engineers.

  • Patch management for Office 2013 on MDT

    Hello,
on current MDT 2012, Office 2013 is added as an app. MSP was created for customization and placed in Update folder (did it a while ago)
I am preparing new MDT 2013. Deployed OS will be patched with latest updates. So Windows update will not take initially any time for applying patches after deployment from WSUS.
I would like to know best practices for Updating Office 2013 on Deployment Share.
Please provide a link or instructions: where to get latest O2013 Update Packages (at least security and critical) and how to place them properly in Update folder. Can it coexist with Customization.msp?
    1. What is the right thing to manage this? No SCCM in place.
    2. Does somebody includes Office 2013 in the image and then use GPO for customization?
Is it a valid scenario? I see at least 2 advantages: no additional time after deployment and full patches for the moment of image creation. Than it could be updated in the moment of image update.
Does it make sense? What are disadvantages of this approach?
    thanks.

    Thanks to all!
Ty, I added a lot to my knowledgebase during bombing :) you with the questions since last week :) ... Thanks for the answers...
I purchased Johan's Fundamentals V4 (found it more applicable to my current needs).
A bit in pressure this week need to push 2 models deployment quickly and correctly as possible.
So don't have time to Deep Dive.
What I achieved Driver Group approach works find for tons of drivers. Tried just on model now...
Have to solve sudden issue with WinPE that was working fine and suddenly stopped working.
    For O2013...
Just to make things fast I installed O2013 in reference image.
If I understand correctly I cannot use MSP file after the installation is made. I suppose to create it and add to Updates folder of the O2013 source.
So now my option is to work with GPO. I have a configured one for O2013 APPV deployment.
    It works great.
Don't remember if I can manage by GPO applications appearance in the Office. (Example want to exclude Publisher and Access from being used on client PC).
Can somebody point where is the option in GPO for selecting individual apps within the Office.
In my MDT2012 I use O2013 deployment as App and use MSP.
For Appv Office I use apps selection from APPV manager. So not sure if it is doable from Office GPO.
    Thanks.

  • Patch Requirements For Solaris 10 x86_64 (10/08)

    Hello All;
We are about to begin testing the use of installing SAP Netweaver onto Solaris 10 x86 (10/08). I have seen SAP Note 908334 and it describes use of a prior older version of Solaris 10 x86 (01/06). Can anyone tell me if newer versions of the patches described in this SAP note are included or need to be added later?
    Many Thanks
    David L. Black

    You can check using
    showrev -p | grep <patchnumer>
if the patch is already installed. Most likely this is the case for the version you use so there's no need to update any patches.
However, it's always a good idea to keep the system up-to-date, especially if you plan to use ZFS as filesystem.
I use "pca" to update our systems (http://www.par.univie.ac.at/solaris/pca/) - much easier to handle than "Solaris Update connection" - and fewer problems.

    Moderator Advice:
    Welcome to the OTN forums.
This is your very first post to the forums, so before you go any further, a piece of advice:
When you give your post a title of "Hi All" it does not tell anyone anything about what your inquiry might be.
The topic title that you place onto each one of your posts is just as important as what you place into your post. It tells everyone whether they need to spend any time with it. It tells everyone whether you are worth spending time with, whether you will be able to understand what they type in a reply, how technical they can be in a response.
These are technical forums. They are not chat rooms for casual feel-good gatherings. They are not `blogs`. The site is also NOT a way to make contact to Oracle's technical support staff. The OTN community is from the entire globe and is from end-users that happen to have an interest in the topics you read here.
Spend some time reading the forum FAQ,
    https://wikis.oracle.com/display/Forums/Forums+FAQ
which is linked at the top corner of every page.
Also, spend some time with the forums Terms Of Use
    http://www.oracle.com/us/legal/terms/index.html
which is linked at the bottom of every page.
In particular, spend some time reviewing section #6 in that T.O.U.
When you make your posts more informative and easier to read then responses will be more helpful.
... now go back and edit your post. Change the title to something that better describes your actual question.
