Patch Policy for EBS

Does anyone have a comprehensive list of all technology that requires security patching in the oracle EBS and supporting infrastructure?
I'd prefer comments as opposed to endless links. And possibly if you could provide a split of what Oracle will patch in the technology stack, and what it doesnt, i.e. what requires 3rd party patching?
I am pretty sure our web servers run apache, does oracle EBS only run on certain supported versions of web services?

Patch 7690975 for EBS 11i

Hi hussein,
I am applying patch 7690975 on our 11i instance, but I encountered "worker failed" error. The patch process is telling me to resolve it using "adctrl"
"tell the worker to restart a failed job", but still the error persist and it is stocked up on the same failed process :(

I guess I need to apply the patch to make my afmdmsg.lct be at version 115.29 from 115.28.How you decide it? I guess u checked worker log but for this decision u refer which note(what is patch number which u need to apply)
But how do I bypass the current hanging patch 7690975 which got the error? I know everytime I run the patch I will check the previous erroneous patch.
Sould I continue = "NO"?
If you are sure about upper patch. You should stop patch 7690975 and then apply your patch and then repatch 7690975

Revieweing Readme is Mandatory Step, however at a high level you would start with
1. Applying OS Patches/JDK Patches if any
2. Apply DB Patches
3. Apply TechStack Patches/Forms Patches
4. Apply Oracle Applications Patches.
while applying oracle apps patches you can use option adpatch option=prereq which would tell if you missed any prereq, however as said before it doesnt list all the prereqs and u need to review the readme.

Backup strategy for ebs R12?

Hi,
I have a couple of questions regarding to backup strategy for ebs R12.
Let's say that we have one application server and one database server running, and we would like to have a backup periodically for both servers.
This means that we want to have the exactly same backup of configurations and other files for the application server and the database server in case of any fatal crashes in the servers.
I went through some discussion threads and it seems common way is to use RMAN for the data of database and file system copy for application and database servers. But, I would like to know what's the best way or recommended way for the backup strategy for data and server files of Oracle e-business suite.
Do you guys have any suggestion for this?

For your issue basicly what we do
1. For our prod db, if possible we take weekly cold backup(sunday) and take rman backup also daily(full backup, but it depends system you can prefer to take incremental)
2. For our system we take file system backup weekly(OS base)
3. For application we take backup every sunday(for some system 15 days or 30 days period). The most important point here if your system prod, and if you need to apply patch to your system you need to have valid backup and also need backup for after patching
One other important issue is we run preclone sh before take backup for apps and db tier

Our env is Oracle EBS 11i (11.5.10) + CU2 +ATG RUP6. We are currently on 9.2.0.8.0
I am currently applying Minimum Baseline Patches for extended support - +Patch Requirements for Extended Support of Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11.5.10 [ID 883202.1]+.
For the HTTP Server Patch - 4393827 do I need to apply patches for all the below components? It prompted me 4 times to apply the patch for each component.

DB_8.1.7.4

I applied HTTP Server Patch - 4393827 in my upgraded instance 11.5.10 CU2ATG RUP6.
Now the Apache version is:
Server version: Oracle HTTP Server Powered by Apache/1.3.19 (Win32)
Server built: Jun 14 2005 15:26:57 (iAS 1.0.2.2.2 rollup 5)
While applying HTTP Server Patch - 4393827, I was prompted to enter Y or N to apply patch for the following components individually. I had the option to enter N also.
OHS_1.0.2.2 component
MODPLSQL component
Webcache_1.0.2.2 component
DB_8.1.7.4 component
I entered Y(Yes) for all the components and the patching was successful for all the components.
I am doubtful about the DB_8.1.7.4 component patch. Should I say Y to this also?. Since my Instance is on 9.2.0.8.0 is it required to apply this component (DB_8.1.7.4 component) also?

11.2.0.3.12 or 11.2.0.4.4 for EBS 12.1.3

Currently we are running our EBS 12.1.3. environment at the database level 11.2.0.3.0. We are getting several errors due to memory corruption. We are looking to upgrade. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations of 11.2.0.3.12 versus 11.2.0.4.4 for EBS 12.1.3? If we do decide 11.2.0.4.4 is there any Doc ID we need to look at?

SOA Gateway installation for EBS 12.1.2 from 12.0.6

Hello Friends
I have installed Oracle EBS 12.1.2 from 12.0.6. I want to install integrated SOA gateway (ISG) in the upgraded version 12.1.2. But I cannot find a direct ISG patch update in Oracle Metalink for 12.1.2 from 12.0.6; Oracle gives patch only for 12.1.2 from 12.1.1.... Am i missing something? Please help

Problem in creating AppsDataSource for EBS using fnd user with APPS Schema connect role

I have done all the setup on EBS R12.1.3 like apply patch for additional profile options, set required profile options, generated DBC file for external node and some entry in FND_NODES table. I have rebuilt the fndext.jar file on external server, and placed it at required path. after doing all these we created fnd user with UMX/APPS_SCHEMA_CONNECT role but I'm not able to create DataSource every time I'm getiing invalid username/password error, properties my connection are below:

I'm trying to create EBS DataSource to integrate ADF application with EBS, for this I have followed steps mentioned in Document 974949.1 but still I'm not able to move forward.
Why? What is the issue?
For this Do I need to install Oracle E-Business Suite AccessGate. But this is not mentioned in Metalink Doc. This I'm trying on Weblogic server on Windows.
AccessGate requires extra steps for EBS integration as mentioned in (Integrating Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 with Oracle Access Manager 11gR1 PS2 (11.1.1.7.0) using Oracle E-Business Suite AccessGate (Doc ID 1543803.1)) which I believe is not required here.

I am creating patch policies for the critical, recommended and informational impacts and I am wondering why the Software Installers impact is nowhere to be found in the filter options. I also tried <> from those 3 impacts, which did nothing.
Considering there are both actual applications and things like Windows Malicious Software Removal tool in software installers, then it would be useful to be able to have a policy that filters by those I think. But that may simply be that I am unsure of how that impact should be used.
Could someone kindly enlighten me please.

Patch updates for text-heavy packages in pacman

I just updated qt-doc from 4.5.2 to 4.5.3, a download of 90.3MiB. The package for 4.5.2 (which I downloaded just a month earlier) was 90.1MiB. This is about the biggest package I get with any regularity, but I've been telling pacman to
--ignore qt-doc
because the download is a pain when I'm busy doing other things.
Out of curiosity, I extracted and diffed the two packages:
$ mkdir 4.5.2; tar -xzf qt-doc-4.5.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz -C4.5.2
$ mkdir 4.5.3; tar -xzf qt-doc-4.5.3-1-any.pkg.tar.gz -C4.5.3
$ diff -rN 4.5.2 4.5.3 | gzip > outfile.gz
The size of the resulting file was 1.3MiB. That is, pacman has me downloading almost 70 times as much data as I would be with the simplest of improvements.
User-modified files might pose a small problem, and you'd need a policy for which from/to diffs to provide, but this would be a big win for a small price even if only the [curr-1:curr] patch was available.
Obviously not a good idea for most things, but for source and documentation packages it's almost silly not to do it.

Terribly sorry if I caused offense (or sounded "pissed"). Perhaps I should be more explicit:
I'm a bored programmer. If some extra manpower will help things along (that is, if this is sitting on the back-burner because it's not interesting or important) I'm willing to spend some time in the trenches.
Edit: Looking around it seems folk are more stuck on how to best implement this, rather than on the implementation itself. Ho hum, hope it turns out well, but it doesn't really look like I can do much to help.
