Patch Recommendations

I'm trying to reduce or eliminate all of the security patch recommendations that are listed in our grid control(11g).
When I apply a CPU(eg 16802901) using "opatch napply", though, the patch actually consists of several sub-patches.  So the patch number that the grid control is not listed when I run "opatch lsinventory".  This causes the patch to remain listed in the security patch recommendations even though it has been applied.
Is this a known issue? Is there something that I can do to manually tell GC that I've applied this patch?

Hi,
The patch 16802901 was applied to which ORACLE_HOME ?
When you are checking the inventory did you set the ORACLE_HOME to same path ?

  • EBS Patch Recommendations via My Oracle Support is coming... get involved

Here is a chance to be involved in the feedback look for extending the collector based patch recommendations interface in MOS to include the extensive EBS suite.
If you are actively involved with evaluating patches for installation in your Oracle EBS, you should consider getting involved in this early stage. We will look to a wide selection of EBS customers to gather one-on-one feedback starting around Jan 2010.

    Hello All,
    The issue is resolved.
The problem in my case was the presence of more than one organization ID in oracle support portal - i.e., my organization apparently has multiple Oracle support contracts. The Oracle collector does not know which ID to use, so none of the collected information shows up in the support portal.
To fix this, the Oracle collector must be "told" which ID to use using this command:
    ./configCCR -s ID_goes_in_here email_address_used_for_oracle_support_login_goes_here country_code_goes_here
    Example: ./configCCR -s 1234567890 [email protected] US
    Once that is done, use:
    ./emCCR collect
To force the collection of information and upload to support.oracle.com
    That's all.
Regardless of whether there are multiple IDs or just one, this situation may arise any time the collector cannot determine the organization ID during initial setup.
On a sadder note, having gone though this process, it turns out that OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1 patch recommendations are not supported by the collector anyway. So, this was all a bit of a waist...
Back to researching the patches manually.....
Does anybody have a good process for patching OBIEE?
Thank you all for your responses. Hope this information helps somebody.

  • PATCH RECOMMENDATIONS PAGE SHOWS DB PATCHES ALREADY APPLIED

I applied the latest APR PSU to all our oracle RAC 11gR2 databases. However the Patch Recommendations page from Grid control 11g  still shows that the patches have not been applied. I need to stop receiving these misleading patch recommendations, as my senior management uses Grid control to view/get the latest information on all databases. How can I get Patch Recommendations page to sync with the correct patch list for my targets?

Try moving the files in /export/home/var/sadm/patch and /export/home/var/sadm/patch back to their correct locations.
You might then find that updatemanager works as expected again. Did you ever stop to think what those directories were used for?

  • Third Party Patching Recommendations

What Products are you using?  What are the Pro/Cons of the products you are using?  What do you recommend?
We are looking at SolarWinds, Shavlik, Lumension... Thoughts?

You could have a look at SCUP, but that still requires a lot of manual work for everything except Adobe products. Third party products will definitely make your life a bit easier. Another product for your list should be Secunia.

  • Patching Oracle Application Server

Hi, I'm trying to patch my Oracle Application Server that's going to be running a PeopleSoft softare installation. I've been having trouble making sure I have all the patches I need. I'm running version 10.1.3.1 of the Oracle Application Server. I downloaded the patches recommended by the PeopleSoft guides and the latest security patch supported by version 10.1.3.1. If your wondering why I'm using such an old version, it's simply because its the latest version the PeopleSoft guiddes certify as supported.
So I have these patches, and I searched on metalink for Oracle Application Server, iAS version 10.1.3.1.0 and there were no other recommended patches. However, I notices the patches I already installed weren't under the list of patches for OAS, not even when I searched under classification any. That's when I realized that the patches that PeopeSoft recommends are listed under Containers for J2EE version 10.1.3.1.0, which is why it wasn't coming up in the search. Now I thought Containers for J2EE were part of the Oracle Application Server, so why don't patches for it show up when I simply search for OAS patches? Is there any was to find all the recommended patches for all software that was installed with OAS? I feel like I may be missing important patches
One wrinkle is that I used the SOA 10.1.3.1.0 CD to install OAS, but I used the option for "J2EE Server and Web Server" without installing the SOA appllications. The only reason I did this was again because this is how the PeopleSoft install guide showed installing OAS.
    Thanks

Dont worry about not install the SOA products, because you dont need them, at the end the patches will upgrade only the necesary.
You may try to dowload 10.1.3.4 patch, it include the previus patches and newers.

  • Patch 118844-21 killed my laptop!

Solaris 3/05 loaded just fine, recently patch 118844-21 installed GRUB as a bootloader, replacing the one that Sol 10 3/05 installed. Now the machine does not complete a boot. It loads the copyright notice and then hangs. Before this patch my laptop was quite happy. What gives?

    Hi,
I'm new on Solaris, I installed the Solaris 10 3/05 on my lap and yesterday I installed the patches recommended and today I found that I can't boot with Solaris. I think I have the same problem but I don't know how to uninstall the patches that you mentioned.
    Can you help me?
    Thanks.

  • Patch for 64bit and 32 bit

    hi hussein/helios,
We are about to start implementing an EBS R12.1.1 , Can u give me notes on what are the latest patches recommended on this latest release(e.g family pack, one-off-pack, CUP, RUP, etc, etc). My boss does not like to implement it since she said it is still "full" of bugs , she recommended R12.0.6 . But the client is insisting on the latest R12.1.1 because they said its the version Oracle delivered to them and what they paid for. By the way the server OS is 64-bit. Are all patches applicable to both 64 and 32 bit OS and EBS?
    Thanks a lot
    MsK

    Hi,
If the application is 64-bit, then download/apply the 64-bit version of the patch. If the 64-bit does not exist and you have the 32-bit version, you can apply this one.
    Regards,
    Hussein

  • PSU Finding the correct patches help

I'm confused on what patches I need to apply.  I can easily find the WLS PSU patch (19182814), and have patched that before without issues.
This is what my opatch is telling me I have installed on one server running the web tier:
    Oracle WebTier and Utilities CD
    11.1.1.7.0
Are these the correct patches to apply: 18603707  18423801 18603703 17664563 18423831?   If so, why are there no patches for October 2014?  Is 11.1.1.7 out of support, or was there just no new patches?
This is what opatch is telling me I have for a server running Forms and Reports:
Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer 11g Patchset
    11.1.1.7.0
This one I'm not sure, I can't seem to find anything, so is this one out of support?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

    Hello Prakash,
Thanks for your response.  I have looked at that document.  I am beyond confused.  Am I basically supposed to go through that section (Table 87 Patch Availability for Oracle Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.7), and download any and all patches for Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer 11.1.1.7.0 home or Oracle Web Tier 11.1.1.7.0 home? - If this is correct then all these need to be applied to both my WebTier and Forms and Reports homes:Patch 17337741 Patch 17306880 Patch 17664563  Patch 17617649 Patch 18423801 Patch 19591065
I got the above patches in my first question from the MOS patches Recommended Patch Advisor by selecting:
    Product: Oracle HTTP Server
    Release: 11.1.1.7.0
    And our platform
Does the recommended patch advisor not work the way I thought it does?  Also I'm assuming that these are like the DB SPU/PSU patches and that they are accumulative?  OR do I need to go back and apply any and all previous security patches?
    Thank you!

Hi I am trying to install patch 9654983.
the read me says to take the following steps:
    unzip p9654983_11201_<platform>.zip
    cd 9654983
    opatch apply
however ... when i try and run the command opatch apply, i get the following error:

    Any ideas??

Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
Sorry im really new to both oracle and linux ... the following are the pre-installation instructions:
    2.3.1.1 Environments with ASM
If you are installing the PSU to an environment that has Automatic Storage Management (ASM), note the following:
For Linux x86 and Linux x86-64 platforms, install either (A) the bug fix for 8898852 and the Database PSU patch 9654983, or (B) the Grid Infrastructure PSU patch 9343627.
For all other platforms, no action is required. The fix for 8898852 was included in the base 11.2.0.1.0 release.
    2.3.1.2 Environment Checks
    1.
Ensure that the $PATH definition has the following executables: make, ar, ld, and nm.
The location of these executables depends on your operating system. On many operating systems, they are located in /usr/ccs/bin, in which case you can set your PATH definition as follows:
    export PATH=$PATH:/usr/ccs/bin
2.3.1.3 One-off Patch Conflict Detection and Resolution
For an introduction to the PSU one-off patch concepts, see "Patch Set Updates Patch Conflict Resolution" in My Oracle Support Note 854428.1 Patch Set Updates for Oracle Products.
The fastest and easiest way to determine whether you have one-off patches in the Oracle home that conflict with the PSU, and to get the necessary conflict resolution patches, is to use the Patch Recommendations and Patch Plans features on the Patches & Updates tab in My Oracle Support. These features work in conjunction with the My Oracle Support Configuration Manager. Recorded training sessions on these features can be found in Note 603505.1.
However, if you are not using My Oracle Support Patch Plans, follow these steps:
    1.
Determine whether any currently installed one-off patches conflict with the PSU patch as follows:
    unzip p9654983_11201_<platform>.zip
    opatch prereq CheckConflictAgainstOHWithDetail -phBaseDir ./9654983
    2.
The report will indicate the patches that conflict with PSU 9654983 and the patches for which PSU 9654983 is a superset.
Note that Oracle proactively provides PSU 11.2.0.1.2 one-off patches for common conflicts.
    3.
Use My Oracle Support Note 1061295.1 Patch Set Updates - One-off Patch Conflict Resolution to determine, for each conflicting patch, whether a conflict resolution patch is already available, and if you need to request a new conflict resolution patch or if the conflict may be ignored.
    4.
When all the one-off patches that you have requested are available at My Oracle Support, proceed with Section 2.3.2, "Patch Installation Instructions".
    1. im unaware if I have Automatic Storage Management (ASM),?
    2. how do i check to Ensure that the $PATH definition has the following executables: make, ar, ld, and nm.
    3. [matt@localhost 9654983]$ opatch prereq CheckConflictAgainstOHWithDetail -phBaseDir ./9654983

  • Sol10 won't boot anymore after patching

    Hi,
I tried patching (Recommended patches of 1/1/2008) an old Netra T1 running Sol10 while running in multi-user mode (yes, I'm that stupid). Unfortunately when I rebooted the server it won't come up again all I get is:
    Netra T1 200 (UltraSPARC-IIe 500MHz), No Keyboard
OpenBoot 4.0, 512 MB memory installed, Serial #51796331.

Trying a 'boot disk -s' or 'boot disk -r' doesn't make any difference.
Unfortunately the server is located in another country so booting from cdrom is not an option. I only have serial and network access (limited by a firewall that I don't control so remote booting is not an option either).
Anybody any idea how I can boot my server?
    Thanks in advance,
    Nico

I think a call to Sun is in order... however I do have a long shot you could try (at your own risk or course :) )
I checked a Solaris 10 system and confirmed that stralloctty is used by specfs (sparcv9)
I then check the 32-bit version on specfs and it doesn't use stralloctty...
You could trying booting the server in 32-bit mode instead of 64-bit while this wont solve the problem is may let you boot so you can fix it....
"........To get the image to install switch the machine to 32bit mode (not supported for newer machines). To set the mode, halt the machine and at the ok prompt type setenv boot-file kernel/unix
To change the machine back to 64bit mode type the following at the ok prompt: setenv boot-file kernel/sparcv9/unix........"
NOTE: I have not ever tried this so I would test it on a machine you have locally first!!!
BTW: I don't think patching in multi user is stupid, I think if you do it (and I do) you need to quiesce the system and make sure you have a backout plan e.g. detached mirror.
I am guessing something went amiss in the patching and the kernel is stuffed i.e. half applied patch

In patch wizard do you have to download patches before it produces a patch recommendations? Or how does it check whats missing?
