Patch Scan after Windows Updates

Part of my image process is to run a series of Windows Updates using Microsofts Windows Updates website or desktop utility. I have noticed that after those utilities are ran and MS shows now new updates that ZPM still shows a ton of patches still needed for the computer. Is there a reason that the two differ so much? I can run the .Net updates and MS shows them updated yet ZPM will show the patches still need to be deployed, as an example.
If ZPM looks at the patches differently what is the best way to force deploy patches to computers that have been imaged for the first time? My Understanding is Baseline options were never intended to be used in this manner. Do I just set up a series of Monthly Patches and then force them to all non-patched computers?
I have also noticed that some computers never patch even through ZPM. Is there a different location for ZPM cache that needs to be deleted if an error has occured?

Hi Richard,
We had some major issues with the Baseline works I am sure whom ever used NPM will will have same assumptions. ZPM works lot differently.
Here is number of things to look out for.
1) You must not Disable Windows Update Service you st the option not to download or install this will let the WUS to automatically start as this service used by ZPM to check for applied patches.
2) DAU version increment every day if doesn't then delete and let it auto create.
3) Can do create a bundle to force run the scan with "zac bv DAU" where you have to change the DAU with full name base of the OS.
4) Since we can't use the base line the way e used it in NPM we create monthly Patches group bundle then we schedule those to devices.

Please make sure that your antivirus application does not scan the files in the
%windir% \SoftwareDistribution directory on any computer on which Windows Update Agent is installed.
You can also temporarily turn off the antivirus application and check the result.
Or run the following commands, and press Enter after each command:
Net stop wuauserv
cd %systemroot%
Ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
Net start wuauserv
Try to install updates again.

Dell Latitude E6520 fails to boot after Windows Updates

Hello,
I have a Dell Latitude E6520 that is not starting up after Windows updates. It installs updates and requests a reboot, after which it blue screens at the splash logo and reboots again. This goes on indefinitely. The only way to repair it is to boot from
a recovery disk and run:
dism /image:D:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions
This is after running dism /image:D:\ /get-packages and noticing that several updates are still in an "Install_Pending" state. These are the kb's that are pending:

There were other updates, but those showed as installed. I would post the WindowsUpdate.Log, but I do not see a button to attach a file and the log is very long. Here is what I think is relevant towards the end of the log:

SP 2010 - Getting "An unexpected error has occurred. " message when accessing Sharepoint site after windows update - Windows 7 Home Premium

Hi,
I am new to SP 2010. I have installed Share point 2010 server (trial version) on my Windows 7 Home Premium Laptop by following the below link.

Everything went fine and was able to see the new sharepoint site after completing configuration wizard. SP2010 Central Admin also worked fine.
However, after windows update, sharepoint site is not working. I was able to see the site working for more than a day before windows update. SP2010 Central Admin is still working. Executed "PSCONFIG" after
update but still no good.
I saw a warning "The Security Token Service is not available" in Central Admin and did some research to fix the issue but nothing worked.

Profiles being reset after windows updates?

Hi All
I'm having issues with Outlook 2013 SP1 resetting our users profiles after Windows Updates have been applied. Their profiles are being reset whilst their previous profiles are being renamed to "BACKUP of <profile name>".
Office 2013 x86 has been deployed via VL Media onto Win7 x64 machines and we are distributing the ImportPRF registry key via GPO (set to Update) in order to customise the profiles on first run. (basic email account and attaching a default PST file)
It appears that after windows updates are applied outlook is triggering the first run process again and therefore resetting the users profiles back to the standard set in our PRF.
We used this method to configure Outlook 2010 and for the years of deploying Office 2010 we never had any issues. Can anyone suggest what might be going on here or what might have changed in Office 2013?

Firefox won't start after windows update

After windows Updated my computer Firefox won't start. I tried a clean reinstall two times, won't work. When I tried to start the firefox the first time after booting my computer it comes with the following message.

I do not see much about coloum 14, but I am guessing this file is stored somewhere and its corrupt. Update.xul suggests that it is the update file. Do you still have this in your downloads folder? There are two places for update and for a clean reinstall:
[http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/] in a private window will give you a new install or you can choose from here: [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/]
This is what the file should look like; [http://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/log/7a2edc5171e6/toolkit/mozapps/extensions/content/update.xul] If you can copy and paste that file from a working browser we can see the issue, but it will just look the same as the error.
if you can replace the contents of the file locally with what it should look like it will fix the error, but who knows if there are other errors. May be best to delete the updater and save all the profile folder contents.

I want to backup my pinned tabs and my bookmarks as they have been lost several times after windows updates

There are 10 rotating daily JSON backups (bookmarks-####-##-##.json) in the bookmarkbackups folder within the Firefox profile folder, one for each day that Firefox is started.

Blue screen: HP Pavilion dv6 after Windows update on Aug 1.

Last year or so, I had this blue screen issue with my dv6 laptop and was solved by uninstalling KB2670838.And things have been very peaceful since then, but the blue screen re-occured recently after windows update last week.The updates were suggested by HP Support agent installed in and was for getting ready for Windows 10 installation.But my pc gets blue in every 3 min now, so I un-installed all updated job occured last week as temporal solution. Though I wish to be ready for Windows 10 installation, I need to have operable PC for my work.(This is Win7 sp1, home eddition) It would be great if anyone could assist me on this. Thank you, Piko.

Lost touch "scroll" after windows updates installed

after todays cumulative update for windows 10 was installed, i lost touch scroll/swipe functions. listed in Windows update along with the cumulative patch was an item named "eGalaxtouch - other hardware-usb controller a802).seeing as there is no way to deselect it, it was installed with the cumullative patch. however right after the install, touch scorlling and swiping are non functional. anyone else run into this? any workaround/fixes for this issue?? i did a system restore to just before the update, which gave me back full functions. But windows is again automatically downloading and installing both updates again! there is no way to choose which updates to install, nor opt out of.does HP have an updated driver for touch??? when the windowsupdate installs that "egalaxytouch" update, the touchscreen is useless. and with auto updating, it's a literal install/uninstall loop. i'm starting to regret upgrading to windows10. and with that said, has anyone tried the "roll back to prior version" option in recovery? it's valid for only 30days. i am thinking of going back but am wondering if anyone was successful running that recovery before i try it myself.

No fix as far as i'm aware. my last post is just a workaround until the driver issue is sorted out. It's not so much that you need a driver for this to work. You have to roll back the offending driver so that we can use the last good driver. And yes, i bbelieve that W10 will install updates as it pleases unless you have W10 Pro. W10 Pro can at least defer updates. I'm hoping that a fixed update comes soon so i don't have to defer them for too long. I miss the old 'Hide update' option from before. But as i said, this is just a workaround so you can get your updates then roll back the driver. Personas has stopped working after Windows updates. Halp! How do I get personas to start working again?

Personas was working just fine. A few days ago there was a Windows update (somewhere along the lines of 20 updates). Both our Vista laptop AND our 7 Desktop were updated and now personas doesn't work on either computer . . . with the exception of one user account on the desktop. <--- which is weird, huh?
We are perplexed. When we mouse over a persona, the font color changes but the picture doesn't. When we wear a new persona again, ''only'' the font color changes but the picture doesn't. It seems to be 'stuck' on whatever our current persona is on the computer. I also tried uninstalling personas and rebooting and . . . the persona picture was still on the computer. More weirdness. I re-downloaded personas after this but the problem persists.
I've searched and searched and can't find anything on this. My best guess is that it has something to do with one of the Windows updates as several of them were security updates ... but this is only a guess on my part.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Let me know what other information I can provide to try and resolve this problem.
Oh, both machines are running the current versions of Java and Adobe flash. We are running on Firefox 3.6.17 on both laptop and desktop.

I've been maintaining a LightSwitch desktop app for a couple of years now. The app runs on a server and several client machines access it. Sometime in the last few months, any client that has Windows Update enabled has failed to load data. Instead
it shows red crosses where the data should be and the tooltip, "Unable to load data. Please check your connection and try loading again."
Other clients that don't have updates enabled are fine. Has anyone else run into this issue? Does anyone know how to resolve it?

Thanks for your reply. I've enabled diagnostics as described. Here's what I find.
When I load my LightSwitch screen, I get the following entry highlighted red in Fiddler:

Browser cache ignore no longer works after windows update

Just thought I'd share that after the windows update I did
this week, the browser cache blocking trick described in many
places where you put ?r=<randomnumber> at the end of a URL no
longer works. Not exactly sure what happened, but it now causes a
URL not found error, at least for me when I'm loading local files
off my disk.

Here's a technique I use. In a php file:
header("Expires: Mon, 20 Jul 1997 05:00:00 GMT");

header("Pragma: no-cache");
This must be wrapped in php tags.

Win7 BootCamp won't start up after Windows Update

I been using Win7 with Bootcamp for over 8 months now and no problem but last night I shut down with a windows update and this morning it can not start up at all. I just get a black screen. I can select and enter my OSX drive no problem, even access the Boot Volume and copy files off it to my Mac partition also. Holding option key on startup shows my two dirves also. Is there anyway to revert back to old version of Win7 on startup or do I have to reinstall everything again?

Did you let the update complete? or shutdown while some of the update was still to be completed. A lot of it is done and completed after a restart.
Start getting into making sure you have free space, using restore points (you may need to boot from the DVD). You can also rollback an udpate to driver or uninstall.
There are always and will be 2nd Tues of the month critical security update in two days. The only Windows Update I've seen are to Microsoft Security Essentials. Maybe 3rd party issue?
I use CCleaner 3.0 on a daily basis to clean out temp files.
(you are running Windows, Boot Camp, no, that was/is drivers and partitioning tool, nothing else). Do you use a VM also? makes it sound like you might. Updates are best done running Windows natively, that is about as close as I can make it to what people keep referring to as "running Windows on Boot Camp" is just Windows running, not as a guest OS VM.

Sharepoint 3.0 website no longer working after Windows updates installed

We have an Intranet site that was set up in SharePoint 3.0. Over the weekend windows updates were installed, specifically KB2687442. Now my Intranet site does not work. When I try and run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard it
fails at step 9 with the following error : Failed to upgrade SharePoint Products and Technologies An exception of type System.InvalidOperationException was thrown. Additional exception information: Cannot start service SPAdmin on computer '.'. When I try and
start the Windows SharePoint services administration service manually it fails to start. When I look in the windows event log there are errors in the application log about SQL exceptions

Hopefully this gets moved to the right forum - it doesn't belong here.
I've had a few customers run into this issue as well after running Windows Update. Reboot the server (admin service should start), and then try the following command:
psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait
