Patch upgrade issues (10.2.0.1 to to 10.2.0.2)

Hi All,
I have a 5TB production database, plan to upgrade to 10.2.0.2 from 10.2.0.1 .
i want to know what are the things will happen at the time of upgradation / after upgradation like below
1) Any impact on User defined tables / objects?
2) Does it perform any statistics collection like gather stats job?
3) Does it perform or required any object compilation?
4) How long this will take to complete the upgradation task??
Please help me to perform the upgradation task.

u r still on same release so for move to 10.2.0.2
from 10.2.0.1 u have to apply only oracle
patch.u need downtime for this activity and u
should take backup first before performing this
activity.

4.depend on ur server configuration.
and i think u will get most of the answer from
Readme file of patchset.it gives u step by
step procedure with pre and post steps.
but best pratices is that u should first apply this
patch on test server and then apply it on production

As you said, i already having experience of upgrading 10.2.0.2 on test machine. It works fine. But, now i am planned to do this on my production db (5 TB). Thats why i am asking the above question.
Please let me how to compile our objects after the patchset has been executed??.. Is it possible to apply (compile) in 5 TB production db??

SAP was installed on 10.2.0.1 (SuSe Linux Ent 10 ) . now i am applying patch upgrade to 10.2.0.2. when i am doing patch the below problem was occured,
"Unable to create new central inventory at location /oracle/orainventory. A non empty inventory already exists at this location. Please select another location or clean the inventory at /oracle/orainventory."
please help me on this issue

Hai,
Please check the oraInst.loc file has the correct entry or not.
File oraInst.loc should have the entries similar to the below:
inventory_loc=/oracle/SID/oraInventory
inst_group=dba
Check the permissions of this file as well, atleast the file should have read access to others.
Also check the permissions of /oracle/SID/oraInventory, it should be owned by ora<sid> user and group dba.

A point upgrade in the fourth place is the collection of bug fixes for your platform. As such, don't expect there to be any functional changes, except as it relates to things that didn't work will begin working.

compilation?There is a good chance of this if there are any changes to system database structures.

Of course you know the answer is "it depends".
When you download the patch, there will be a README that will provide more information. In particular, you can get a feel for the impact on the database by looking at the requirement to run an upgrade script on your database. You can look at that script and see exactly what it is doing and have a better feel for what the impact might be.
Note that this answer applies to fourth digit point upgrades and general.

Trex patch upgrade issue from 44 to 50

I have successfully installed Trex version 7.00.44.00 on windows 2008 server and Now, when I am trying to upgrade patch from 44 to 50 gives the below error at DNS domain name parameter enter stage.

I have hosts entries maintained correctly as below.Checked the following note but no success.Host is not registered in the domain but as a workgroup.Can please tell me what could be reason for this???

Repository connect issue after MDM Patch Upgrade

We recently upgraded our MDM patch from SP06 5.5.63.73 to SP06 5.5.65.91
after patch upgrade we are not able to connect to repository.SAP is saying that we have wong NLS Character set.It should be 'UTF8' or 'AL32UTF8'
We checked and found that we do not have character set as per SAP Recommendation but everything was working fine before upgrading the patch.As per SAP in new Patch MDM is lokking for Unicode Character set
SAP is asking to create new DB Instance for MDM.
If we create new instance for MDM then how we are going to use our existing repository.Our environment is clustered environment and name of MDM DB instance is also mentioned in cluster.We have to use same Instance name.We are also using oracle failsafe
Creating new instance seems to be risky for Production environment.Currently we are applying the Patch in Sandbox Environment
has anyone of you faced this problem while upgrading MDM patch, if yes then how you resolve the issue

Recently, we upgraded our R/3 640 kernel from patch number 196 to 327. It went successful.
But now, the Sales and order team is having problem in saving the orders(VA02, VA01).
While saving Sales order, error pops up saying "dialog step number missing".
Kindly suggest.

The problem has been resolved.
As i said, problem wasnt with the upgrade, but came thereafter, functional team faced issues while switching between the windows.
Problem was with the Gui level, it needed to be upgraded too after the kernel patch upgrade.

Hi Jayakanthan,
Patch Upgrade is done on SAP Server only.After Completion of Patch 49 upgrade in SAP Server
then open SAP B1 in server machine it start to upgrade DB after completed DB Upgrade
In Citrix Server open the SAP B1 it start the upgrade process after completed
restart the citrix server.
There is no separate Patch instalation in citrix server.
in Citrix server SAP client only installed so you can just open the
SAP B1 in citrix server and other client machine also it automatically start to
upgrade.

R12.1.3 Upgrade issue

After i upgrading to R12.1.3 from 12.1.1, instance is very slow, its very hard to login and taking lot of time,
here is my upgrade path:
1)upgraded 10.1.3.5 patch(no issues while patching)
2)applied R12.AD.B.DELTA.3 Patch 9239089
3)applied Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3 Patch 9239090 and
4)applied online help Patch 9239095
post patch steps:
1)applied Patch 9817770
2)applied atch 9966055
3)patch 9593176
Then ran autoconfig on all nodes.

You can check the following url. Have you applied the new language pack? then follow the steps mentioned in this note. I followed it apart from following the main upgrade note. and the instance is working fine now. Previously I have faced same issue you mentioned.

Update Customized LKM after patch upgrade

We currently have over 100 interfaces that use a customized version of a default LKM,CKM and IKM. We are going to implement a patch upgrade over the weekend which includes new versions of the LKM,CKM and IKM. How do we apply the new versions to the 100 interfaces?
The customization that we had done was to modify the some of the options. When we receive a new version how do we apply the new KM with the customized options to all the interfaces?

Best paractise is always to dulicate then modify the new KM, not to modify the original KMs. This allows you to deal with the issues which arise when new KMs are released which contain new functionality you'd like to get.
I suggest that your best approach is to import the new KMs, modify them with your changes, then export them. Next do an IMPORT REPLACE on your KMs with the modified version of the new ones. Now all you have to do is to re-generate the interfaces which use the KMs.

I have never done the patch upgrade for portal, so want to know the exact procedure.
We are using EP 7.00 SP9.
Actually we are facing issues in IE 7.0, so I want to upgrade my portal's patch to SP15 or more (as per SAPu2019s note 981710).
1. Please tell me whether IE 7.0 will suit the portal 7.00 SP15 or not?
2. Please give me the Procedure or Pdf or Guide for Patch upgrade.

i have faced the same problem, but i have solved by the following procedure
while download the support package stack from SAP service market place,
you have to select the save as file then it will display two links one is right click to save this table as a CSV file and another is right click to save this table as a XML file, then right click on XML and choose save target as default name is SPSTab and save this file and copy this file into ..../usr/sap/trans/EPS/in and start the JSPM and then check.
note: the JSPM automatically first upgrade jspm and return to the JSPM screen, with the status message JSPM deployed, and the remaining components with the status message NOT AT DEPLOYED, now again continue the JSPM to deployee the remaining components, in this list next JSPM pickup the kernel and then remaining components to upgrade the system.

Kernel Upgrade Issue

Hi,
After Kernel patch upgrade (level 1393), we got Short dump SAPSQL_ITAB_CANT_SCAN during address search (OSS 573808) in Modification adjustment screen.
Based on OSS#573808, 555655 said that we need to upgrade kernel patch 464 or higher for above issue. I just like to know, if this is major issue or not. Shall we can reset and continue our database upgrade? or we have to upgrade kernel patch 464 or higher?

No, probably it will not create any problem, the higher versions having the downward compatibility.
But try to find root cause of the error. If you were unable to trace I suggest you to open an OSS message for the same.

Performance improvement from patching/upgrading wl 5.1

We have started looking at a lot of issues that are currently affecting the performance of our web site. One thing that has been proposed as a potential area for improvement would be to patch/upgrade our weblogic servers.
We are currently running 5.1 patched at level 4 on hpux.
I was wondering if anybody could provide some info or point me to some documentation that would confim any actual gains we might get by patching our servers or upgrading them to 6.1

You should definitely consider upgrading to the newest 8.1.
It offers a lot of performance improvements, including normal
connection pools and prepared statement caches, CMP batching
and many others. There is no reason for upgrading to 6.1
when 8.1 is out.
If such a long jump is not an option, at least you may upgrade
to the latest SP for 5.1 - you will get caching for prepared
statetements - if your app is database-bound, it will definitely
give a boost.

Null Exception in Family Iview after Patch Upgrade

We have SAP XSS installed on our production portal.
following was the composition.
SAP_ESS 603 SP3
SAP_MSS 600 SP16
SAPPCUI_GP 603 SP3
recently we upgraded patch level to
SAP_ESS 603 SP7 (1000.603.0.7.4.20110124060804)
SAP_MSS 600 SP18 (1000.600.0.18.0.20100830054638)
SAPPCUI_GP 603 SP7 (1000.603.0.7.0.20100914080506)

Backend patches remain the same viz
EA-HR Release: 604 ,level : 011
Now when we try to test the Personal Information Iview it gives us the following error
com.sap.tc.webdynpro.modelimpl.dynamicrfc.WDDynamicRFCExecuteException: Access via NULL object reference not possible., error key: RFC_ERROR_SYSTEM_FAILURE
Note: We have already implemented note no 1018036 which reports the above issue.Jcos are working fine , SSo is properly established and User remains valid.

The logs from ST22 as as follows:
An exception occurred that is explained in detail below.
The exception, which is assigned to class 'CX_SY_REF_IS_INITIAL', was not
caught in
procedure "HRXSS_PER_CLEANUP" "(FUNCTION)", nor was it propagated by a RAISING
clause.
Since the caller of the procedure could not have anticipated that the
exception would occur, the current program is terminated.
The reason for the exception is:
You attempted to use a 'NULL' object reference (points to 'nothing')
access a component.
An object reference must point to an object (an instance of a class)
before it can be used to access components.
Either the reference was never set or it was set to 'NULL' using the
CLEAR statement.
Other ESS applications are working fine.Issue is in Family application.Server is also restarted after patch upgradation.

JPD Upgrade issue

We are upgrading from WLI 8.1 to Oracle WLI 10.3 - We are facing problem when we are trying to Upgrade 8.1 JPD's to 10.3 and getting the following error -
Failed to create upgrader instance for com.bea.wli.ide.upgrade.JPDDocumentUpgrade.
We have installed patches which should have resolved the above ..but we are seeing the above error again. Can give us some pointers on where we might be going wrong , whether it is Patch activation issue or additional patches need to be applied ? The following are the patches we have applied -
T4EH.jar;EB3S.jar;7SSV.jar;PS4V.jar;2P2M.jar;4DRC.jar,RT9X.jar using smart update software.
Can you also share information whether we can achieve upgrade in alternative ways without using the JPDupgrader?

I searched for them in oracle site but could not find them.

can you clarify me few things ?
1) Do you have below mentioned jar files with you?, because these jar files are nothig but the patches itself.
2) Do you have Oracle License, because with that you will get Customer Support Identifier (or CSI) or Sun Contract Number. With this number/identifier you can contact oracle support for patches or other related things.
@sanjana : Did you have to apply the patch of all jar files (T4EH.jar;EB3S.jar;7SSV.jar;PS4V.jar;2P2M.jar;4DRC.jar,RT9X.jar)
answer : each jar file/ patch has specific purpose, you may or may not need it for your project. For Example : EB3S.jar is required to Convert your JPDs to JAVA files. without this patch you wont be able to convert your application JPDs.

I have successfully done the patch upgrade in dev portal.
I am facing the issue in custom WD application in QA portal system, in dev portal the application is working fine and after transporting the objects into QA portal ,while on preview the iview its giving me error : "Failed in WD JNDI lookup ".
I have tested the WD application from Web dynpro console and its working fine , even i have created iview in QA portal and its working fine but while transporting the iview from DEV to QA Portal is not working . Can any one help me on that .
