Patch-upgrade questions
I have been asked to get our phone servers all up to date with the latest OS patches (service releases) and have a question that i cannot seem to find an answer to. Our phone system consists of 4 servers (Cisco 78XX MCS) 2 of which are our Call Manager publisher and subscriber and the other 2 are our CRS servers (IPCC Express). The difference is that 2 of them are 7825's and 2 of them are 7845's but they are both running the same OS (OS image, OS Service release, OS upgrade). I was looking at the available service releases on Cisco's site 'http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/callmgr-41' but it looks like those are specific to CCM so I just need to know if I can download those patches and apply them to both the CCM and CRS servers or is here another link that shows the downloads for the CRS servers operating system? I would think that it would be the same but I just wanted to check with the folks around here as I don't think that would merit a TAC case. If anybody knows if I can use the same patches and what not on both the CCM and CRS servers I wouls appreciate it.
Hi Matt,
Great question! The page you were looking at is for SR's and patches for the Callmanager 4.1 Train specifically and would not be loaded on the IPCC servers.
For OS Versions, they generally are the same on both. Here is a clip from the ReadMe for 2000.4.5a. These are always highly recommended reading to verify the required pre-load etc;

Many Patch/Upgrade Questions/Processes for SAP Systems
Hello, I am trying to wrap my head around the patching/update process in SAP. I am familiar with how to use SPAM and SAINT, but my questions are more about the process as a whole. Here are some of my concerns:
- Do you update the OS or SAP first?
- Do you just apply only OS Service Packs or do you do all security patches as well?
- Should kernel updates be done before or after database patches?
- How do I update the kernel on a cluster?
- Should you go to the latest database patches available or go to a certain level?
- Are some areas more important to update then others?
- How are all of our customizations (1000+ in ERP) handled by the patches?
- What if we implemented an OSS Note that is fixed in a support patch?
- How do we test to ensure we are not doing damage?
- Can you uninstall security patches?
- Is there a way to know what t-codes are affected by the updates?
Just for reference, we are running an ECC 6.0 system on Windows 2003 x64 servers, with a MS SQL 2005 db. Our Prod environment is running in high-availability via MS clustering services. Your input on these questions is appreciated.Hello Techies,

Hi Experts,
I just want to make sure of the following for a Upgrade I have to do:
The client is currently on SBO 8.8 PL09 and they want to upgrade to PL10. Their License Manager is on s different Server than SQL 2008.
I downloaded the SBO 8.8 PL10 UPGRADE version (not the install version), is this the correct oen to use?
Please let me know if the following steps will be sufficeint for this upgrade:
Make backups of all databases
Uninstall Server Tools on License Manager Server
Install Server Tools on License Manager Server
Connect the License file
Run the Upgrade .exe on the SQL Server - Will this see the Server Tools upgrade? I just go through the steps, right?
Thanks for you help,
MarliHi Marli,
Directly restoring the backup of SQL 2005 n SQL 2008 wont help you when the B1 will be connected.
I'll suggest to upgrade the SQL 2005 to SQL 2008 or restore your old SQL 2005's backup to new system's new SQL 2005 installation & then upgrade that DB to SQL 2008.
After that you can directly run the PL10 setup. No need to run Ugrade.exe as you are upgrading your database.
Hope it will solve your issue.

Delta links on applying patches/upgrade.
Hi,
I have a basic question. What happens on applying patch/upgrade to the delta linked copies, when the source objects have been updated/upgraded with new SAP changes.
Will the delta linked object properties get over written by new upgraded (or SAP patches) source objects.
I have made delta links of the SAP delivered WPC IView container objects and using them in the custom pages. Lets say on applying a patch or upgrade, the orginal source objects are changed. Will those changes undo my changes on target delta linked objects.Hi,
Copying to your namespace is possible but by that you loose all the advantages in the delta-link.
What exactly are you copying Roles, iView, Pages everything?
Adding additional delta link layer between the roles and SAP content is a wise step but copying everything will only dupplicate content and will not allow you upgrade safty with SAP features.

Yesterday I have installed a latest CPU completely different way. During my six month career in oracle I always install a patch by simply double click on setup and afterward run upgrade assistant which update oracle version. But yesterday I have install patch completely different way. I have download patch the first thing to note there is no OUI setup. Patch readme file used Opatch utility to install patch. I have stated working according to readme file instruction but soon I came to know that Opatch utility not install on my machine than I installed Opatch and than patch but all these working raised my question in my mind plz help me to clarify the concept
What are the different type of patch exist
What is the difference b/w patch that change version or also have OUI setup and patch which install through Opatch utility.
Can we use GUL interface instead of Opatch utility
Why did not run upgrade assistant after Installtion of patch
Why this CPU did not change version of database
How we check either patch install successfully or not (Most important question)What are the different type of patch exist

Basically it boils down to the problem you still want everything delivered on a golden plate on your doorstep and still can't be bothered to read readily available documentation and go on abusing this Forum to abstract documentatiion you refuse to read.

Hi all, hope you having a good time.
I have a question about the procedure for PGW patch upgrade, I will perform an upgrade for version 9.7(3) and it is my first time so I need to know if the system has never been patched, do I have to apply all the previous patches or just the last one available 32 or 33 in some cases (is this including the previous ones)???
Thanks for your kind help in advance.
Regards,
KarlaHi Karla,
you don't need to apply all patches. You need to apply the latest ones. Please read this document for more details:

Hi All,
Over the years SAPB1 patch upgrade files have grown in size. V9 PL11 when extracted comes to 6GB. I wonder whether you can upgrade database and components just by copying the subfolder called "wizard". This folder is only 2gb. I tried it and it didn't give me an error.
ThanksHi,
Please repost above discussion as question marking question type.

Hi Experts,
I have a question in regards to Java patch upgrade. Say you are running on SPSxx and there has been a new Java patch released for this SPS that will fix some problem that you are experiencing.
Should you then only apply the patches for the components BI-BASE-S & BIWEBAPP (which is enough to get the fix applied) or should you apply patches for all components (where the patch is available)?
Please let me know your recommendations and previous experiences.
Thank you in advance,
Mikaelhi,
If you are applying only a higher patch for SPS then it is ok to apply it only for the 2 componants mentioned by you.

Acoount to perform SQL2005 sp patch upgrade.
Hello,
I would like to know which I account I should logon to perform a SQL2005 SP2 patch upgrade for a standard SAP system, should it be local administrator account or <SID>adm account???? Please advice.
When I perform a SQL2000 to SQL2005 upgrade task for a standard SAP system, I logon on as local administrator account to perform this task, so I would assume it would be a local administrator account.
Best regards,
Phuong.Hello Phuong,
As long as any of those two accounts (<sidadm> or Local Admin - Administrator) have System Admin - "sa" privileges in the SQL Server, you will be able to patch the SQL Server.
If your SQL DBA follows the best practices for SQL Server, he should have removed the Local Administrator user from the SQL Server System Admins ("sa") group....thus your Local Administrator user wouldn't work.
However, I am assuming that you are the DBA in this case and unless you intentionally removed the Local Administrator user from the SQL "sa" group, by default, the Local Administrator account is in the SQL "sa" group....and you can use that for patching.
Please award points if this answered your question.

Hi,
We are continously getting dumps on our BW Central instance server after we did an Oracle patch upgrade from 9.2.0.6 to 9.2.0.8.
Following is our system environment

Process terminated by signal 11.
What happened?
The current ABAP program had to be terminated because the
ABAP processor detected an internal system error.
The current ABAP program "SAPMSSY2" had to be terminated because the ABAP
processor discovered an invalid system state.
What can you do?
Make a note of the actions and input which caused the error.
To resolve the problem, contact your SAP system administrator.
You can use transaction ST22 (ABAP Dump Analysis) to view and administer
termination messages, especially those beyond their normal deletion
date.
Error analysis
An SAP System process was terminated by an operating system signal.
Possible reasons for this are:
1. Internal SAP System error.
2. Process was terminated externally (by the system administrator).

How to correct the error
The SAP System work directory (e.g. /usr/sap/c11/D00/work ) often
contains a file called 'core'.
Save this file under another name.
If you cannot solve the problem yourself and you wish to send
an error message to SAP, include the following documents:
1. A printout of the problem description (short dump)
To obtain this, select in the current display "System->List->
Save->Local File (unconverted)".
2. A suitable printout of the system log
To obtain this, call the system log through transaction SM21.
Limit the time interval to 10 minutes before and 5 minutes
after the short dump. In the display, then select the function
"System->List->Save->Local File (unconverted)".
3. If the programs are your own programs or modified SAP programs,
supply the source code.
To do this, select the Editor function "Further Utilities->
Upload/Download->Download".
4. Details regarding the conditions under which the error occurred
or which actions and input led to the error.
Kindly help.
Regards
Sachin
Edited by: Sachin N on Apr 14, 2008 12:26 PMNo. If the environment would be wrong the system wouldn´t start up.
Core dumps are in 99 % of the cases program errors (in the SAP kernel or in an interface (libdbora*)), misaligend accesses of data etc.
If you encounter such an error have a look in the C-Stack. If you can´t see where the error is happening opening an OSS call. Most of those errors are fixed by installing the latest patches for the kernel and the database interface.

"Unable to create new central inventory at location /oracle/orainventory. A non empty inventory already exists at this location. Please select another location or clean the inventory at /oracle/orainventory."

RameshHai,
Please check the oraInst.loc file has the correct entry or not.
File oraInst.loc should have the entries similar to the below:
inventory_loc=/oracle/SID/oraInventory
inst_group=dba
Check the permissions of this file as well, atleast the file should have read access to others.
Also check the permissions of /oracle/SID/oraInventory, it should be owned by ora<sid> user and group dba.

How to do patch upgradation in citrix server ?
Dear all,
How to do patch upgradation in citrix server (SAP B1 2005B PL41 to PL49) ?
Whether i also need to do same in db server ?
JeyakanthanHi Jayakanthan,
Patch Upgrade is done on SAP Server only. After Completion of Patch 49 upgrade in SAP Server
then open SAP B1 in server machine it start to upgrade DB after completed DB Upgrade
In Citrix Server open the SAP B1 it start the upgrade process after completed
restart the citrix server.
There is no separate Patch instalation in citrix server.
in Citrix server SAP client only installed so you can just open the
SAP B1 in citrix server and other client machine also it automatically start to
upgrade.
*Close the thread if issue solved.

Hello,
I was looking into patching/upgrading from 10.2.0.3 to a 10.2.0.5 verison.
Are the two zip files for 10.2.0.5 from http://www.oracle.com/technology/ "Patch Installers"
The same as Patches from Metalink ?
Please explain the difference.
Thanks..Hello,
I found out they would be the same. I was looking for more of a general answer not specfic to a product like what is "Patch Installers"
The two zip files I want are for 10.2.0.5 from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/index.html "Patch Installers"
are the same as Patch 3731593 from Metalink.
I thought the patch would only be from Metalink.

Security upgrade question - I have a 4S phone v6.01 with an upgrade to IOS 7.04 already downloaded and ready for install. I would like to install the 6.1.6 security upgrade instead. How do I delete the ios7 in the queue or have the 6.1.1 pushed as an option to the phone?
You can't install iOS 6.1.6 on that device and must update it to 7.0.6.
