Patching aip to 11.0.01

My understanding is that the best practice is to patch the aip to the latest version and do upgrades from that patched version rather than patch individual installs (please correct me if I'm wrong).
I patched my 11.0.00 install to 11.0.01.  The patch process went fine, but when I try to then run it against my current 11.0.00 install, it says that anothther version is already installed and installation cannot continue.  Would appreciate some guidance on this.

You should not have to uninstall 11 to update to 11.0.01. You would have to uninstall the product from your target machines if you wanted to update to 11.0.02. That is, you can't update patched installs; you can only update over the base version. That 'gotcha' is why most admins use the boostrapper deployment method.
What I was asking was if there have ever been a 9.x or 10.x Acrobat or Reader on that machine (or any version in a different language). If that is the case, I'll send you off in another direction. You'll probably need to uninstall the product and/or clean those machines with http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html.

  • 11.0.0.5 patch does not update AcroRd32.exe version?

    It appears that when you patch an Administrative Install Point (AIP) using the new patch (AdbeRdrSecUpd11005.msp), the patched AIP's AcroRd32.exe file (located in AIP\program files\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader directory) retains the same version number as 11.0.0.4, which is version 11.0.4.63.
    I was expecting a version # change. I am getting an error that the product is already installed when attempting to manually install via msiexec /i pointing to the AIP. I am confident that I have built the AIP in the correct order using Base product -> quarterly 11.0.0.4 -> OOC 11.0.0.5.
    I also found reference (in a German language forum) to the same problem here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1312078
    Is this a bug in the packaging of the update? Or is this intentional? Or is there something else I am missing?
    Thanks.

    It appears as if only AcroRd32.dll was replaced for the 11.0.5 update.

  • Acrobat 9 standard deployment always Italian

    Hello,
    First of all, this is the most worst deployment system i have ever seen.
    The AIP or Bootstrap way; why is there not one total update why do i need to install about 5 patches to get to the latest update?
    This way the total installation time for the installation is going to be very long.
    I need to deploy Acrobat 9 standard to clients using MDT 2010.
    I try to use the msi with an .mst file: msiexec /L*v c:\Log.txt /i AcroStan.msi TRANSFORM="AcroStan.mst" /q
    It does not install anything and the log file is in Italian. When i run the installation without /q (silent) i get a Italian interface.
    Within the setup.ini and within the AcroStan.mst i have dutch selected using Adobe Customization Wizard 9.
    When i run the setp.exe i will get dutch interface, just the way i wanted.
    Probally i am doing something wrong
    I intend to deploy several single licenses installation on several clients, so i need to make different .mst files with the different product keys in it.
    Otherwise i would have used the setup.exe to deploy and i do not want to have 5 copies of the installation of Acrobat 9.
    Anyone who can help me?
    Regards,
    Francis

    Hi Francis,
    The language mst files provided with the setup for your installer do not automatically get copied to the Administrative Install Point (AIP) that is created using the msiexec utility. If you are running your setup through the patched AIP (for 9.4.3), the installer will install it in the default language which is Italian (For Italian, Spanish, Dutch and Portugese group installer).
    You should follow the steps listed below to create the AIP and install from it.
    1. Create the AIP for 9.0 Acrobat ISDP installer using the following command line
    2. CD to AIP and patch it till the version you want (9.4.3)
    3. Copy the language mst files (e.g. 1034.mst-Spanish, 1040.mst-Italian, 1043.mst-Dutch & 1046.mst-Portugese) available in the orignial installer to the AIP folder.
    4. Create the custom .mst file for all the customizations you require and copy this also to the AIP folder.
    5. Deploy from the AIP using the following commmand line:
    msiexec /i AcroStan.msi TRANSFORM="1043.mst";"Custom.mst" /qf.
    This should work and you shoould see the Dutch UI as well as your customizations should also apply.
    Let me know if you find any issues.
    Thanks,
    Vinod

  • Deploying Acrobat X updates?

    We originally deployed Acrobat Pro 10.0.3. We created an AIP using 10.0 and the 10.0.3 MSP file. Now that 10.1 is out, we would like to update our machines. I was reading the enterprise guide and from my initial understanding, it seems we need to deploy Acrobat to every user--we can't just push out an update. Is this correct? Is there no way to simply push out the MSP file to have the machines update to the latest version? Thanks!

    Here's a follow up question, with my current work flow and understanding:
    Acrobat is installed to machines via GPO pointing to an AIP.
    When there is a patch, the patch is applied to a fresh 10.0 AIP, the old AIP is replaced, and the GPO is set to 'redeploy'.  This in effect uninstalls the previous instance of the software, and installs the new version in it's place.
    It works, but requires keeping or making a new 10.0 AIP to patch each time (a minor annoynce), the time to completely uninstall and reinstall Acrobat, and the network traffic to completely reinstall a 1+ GB application to every machine that has Acrobat installed.
    Some people put out command lines that would install a msp to a previous installation. Can this command line be integrated into the same GPO, such that the patch is applied via GPO to those machines it is already applied to?
    If not, what method is being used to run this command line on all pertinant machines, given that there is no guarantee that each machine will be online or available at any given instance (even better, it is possible, say if it were a laptop, that the machine may not be online for a month or more).
    Using the first 'Full Reinstallation from a patched AIP' method is ugly, but works as a 'set it and forget it' method.  Can the 'command line patch' be set up in a 'set it and forget it' manner as well?
    Reading through the Enterprise Deployment Guide, using the AIP is the only method mentioned in the GPO section.  So, anyone 'moving away from an AIP model', how do you accomplish this (or 'how do you accomplish this without additional software such as SCCM, which would be a whole new ball of wax with it's own problems, at least from what I've already read in this thread, and a huge overhead to implement to take care of the very few applications we would need it for).
    Thanks for the input!

  • Patching Reader AIP with 11.0.09

    I have been successfully applying previous quarterly updates to an AIP created with reader 11.0.0 for distibuting via group policy. Today I have been trying to patch the AIP made from 11.0.0 with 11.0.09 and am getting the "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer service because the program to be upgraded maybe missing.......etc.." error. I don't see anything wrong with my instructions (I can start again and succesfully patch with 11.0.07 still). Has anyone else tried? Is there something up with 11.0.09 or have I missed something? I know things are different for OOC updates but 11.0.09 is a quarterly right? Thanks.

    For some unknown reason (as I didn't think this was possible) I had to use the AIP made with the OOC 11.0.08, not an AIP made from 11.0.0. It seems to have worked. Don't you just love Reader updates.....

  • Patching up Reader AIPS with ooc XI 11.0.2

    I have successfully managed to install 11.0.1 using AIPS and GPO.
    Now I have trouble installing the security OOC patch 11.0.2
    Currently I have two AIPS one base AIPS11.0.0 and another with AIPS11.0.1
    In the GPO I have two installations one 11.0.0 and another 11.0.1 which requires the former one to apply the quarterly patch.
    I have difficulties installing the 11.0.2 patch.
    The systems is Windows XP SP3 x86. The Servers are W2008R2
    I have applied the security patch to the AcroRead.msi in AIPS 11.0.1 and target directory AIPS11.0.2
    After creating the GPO package installation I have selected that the new package will update 11.0.1
    Upon applying it to the PC the system did not update itself to 11.0.2
    What could I have missed or done wrong.
    Second if I apply this patch and new quarterly patch arrives which GPO installations should I uninstall.
    Thanks

  • Unable to apply 9.3.0 patch to .msi

    I can not apply the 9.3.0 msp patch to the 9.2.0 msi. The install fails with this error message:

    Here ya go.  Make an AIP.  Kudos to Adobe for creating such a bloated, twitchy, convoluted pile of cr@p.

  • Problems Updating Adobe Reader AIP 10.1.2 to 10.1.3

    Hi, I managed to roll out Adober Reader 10.1.2 a month or so ago via Group Policy (Software Deploy). I've now found that quite a few PCs suffer from the known printer issue. So I'd like to update our software to 10.1.3.
    I've tried reading through the admin guide but it's slowly melting my brain! And, from what I've read, it doesn't mention much about upgrading a currently installed Adobe Reader.
    What I tried to do was take a copy of our 10.1.2 install folder onto my local PC. I tried copying the 10.1.3 MSP file into this folder and running the msiexec patch command. This just threw up an error about the incorrect version to patch (The upgrade patch cannot be installed...because the program to be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch may update a different version). But trying to think back I'm certain this is how I'd patched the original 10.1.0 install with 10.1.2 (this MSP file is still in this folder).
    I think when I originally patched to 10.1.2 I downloaded a copy of the 10.1.0 EXE and using the sfx commands extracted the files and then patched with the MSP file. I've just tried doing this same procedure but patching with the 10.1.3 MSP and this works. However when I try to run the installation (msiexec /i AcroRead.msi TRANSFORMS=AcroRead.mst) I get an error relating to a different version already being installed (Another version of this product is already installed...etc) which it is, I currently have 10.1.2 installed, I would've assumed the installer would be able to intelligently either auto uninstall the current version and install the new one or upgrade it.
    Anyway, after reading a few posts in here I tried adding the new install to our Software Deployment anyway, selecting that it was an upgrade of 10.1.2 and also selecting the option to uninstall 10.1.2. As I'm guessing the option to upgrade it won't work due to the earlier error message. I then tested this new group policy update on a couple of PCs, most had issues trying to apply it (looking in the event log showed a file cannot be found message - all files are present!), eventually after a couple of reboots some do uninstall the old and install the new one. But I'm not convinced, so I've removed it again!
    Have I done something wrong here? I was assuming that the new install would be able to patch the current version installed (so long as it's 10.1.2)
    If what I've done is correct, then what exactly is the point in patching? What's stopping me from just downloading the 10.1.3 install, extracting the files and just running that? Rather than patching up?
    I hope all this makes sense! I appreciate any help.
    Andy

    The admin guide says in multiple places that quarterlies are cumulative to the last MSI. For example, from the AIP Best Practices section:
    "For Adobe Reader 10.x, quarterly updates are cumulative to the latest MSI (e.g. 10.1 replaces the base release of 10.0) and security patches are cumulative to the last quarterly. Thus, 10.0 > 10.1 is valid. 10.0 > 10.0.3 > 10.1 isn’t."
    This kb says the same thing: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/update-patch-acrobat-reader-10.html
    So, the correct order is 10.1 > 10.1.3 with no 10.1.2 in between.

    Make sure that no oracle processes are running on windows, stop all services again and use the task manager to kill any oracle process that is running. But first read de README.txt that you have with your patch, there is all the steps you need to follow to perform that installation.

    Same steps is working fine in another instance without any issues. I have tried to export the contenr from the working instance and import the same into instance which is showing error but still i am getting the same error. Is it related to B2B Patch issue?

  • AIP-51505:  General Validation Error - SFTP transport - validation disabled

    Configuration :
    internal DC with SFTP
    external DC with SFTP (via proxy)
    Business Protocol          Custom Document over Generic Exchange
    MLR 12? (patch 8703404)
    3 environments have the same tip.properties
    2 environments pick up and send all files successfully.
    I cannot see a difference between the deployments that is causing the validation error.
    [also in all three B2B's are an ebXML and AS2 trading partner configuration]
    The 3rd generates validation errors for all files (14) in the b2b.log and sends some (1-7).
    Note that the sent ones change, if a failed one is retried in the source directory, sometimes it is sent successfully.
    In the failing/validating deployment there is no validation for (cut and pasted from UI screens) :
    Document Protocol Revision Details = Translation Enabled False Validation Enabled False
    Document Types (Document Definition Details for each document def) = Is Translation Enabled False Is Validation Enabled     False

    Thank you for the suggestion, unfortunately, I cannot get it to work.
    I've updated the IDC transport server to 3 different filename_formats, and tried the corresponding files, with correct names to match the filename_format.
    After updating the IDC I validated the trading partner (host).
    I then updated the agreement using the updated IDC, and validated the agreement.
    I then validated the host again.
    Then I created a new deployment.
    And still received the error.
    I then deleted the old IDC and created a new IDC and new agreement and new deployment, trying 3 different "Internal delivery channel filename format" values (updating and validating the agreement and host trading partner each time).
    And still received the error.
    No matter what I set EITHER the IDC "filename format" OR "Internal delivery channel filename format", the b2b.log always reports :
    filename_format = %TO_PARTY%_%DOCTYPE_NAME%_%TIMESTAMP%.txt
    e.g.
    2010.05.16 at 18:05:02:758: Thread-15: B2B - (DEBUG)
    Protocol = SFTP
    Version = 2.0

    filename_format:%TO_PARTY%_%DOCTYPE_NAME%_%TIMESTAMP%.txt
    fullpath:/mnt/maximage_prd/sa_transfer/SA_DRUGS_10.txt
    timestamp:Thu Jan 15 09:54:18 PST 1970
    When I try a file with a revision number, e.g. SA_DRUGS_10.txt the log shows :
    2010.05.16 at 18:05:03:602: Thread-14: B2B - (DEBUG) oracle.tip.adapter.b2b.exchange.generic.GenericExchangePlugin:decodeIncomingMessage FILE_FORMAT = TO_PARTY - SA

    2010.05.16 at 18:05:03:895: Thread-14: B2B - (ERROR) Error -: AIP-51505: General Validation Error
    which makes sense as "10" is not a timestamp.
    If I exclude the revision, using SA_DRUGS.txt the log shows :
    2010.05.16 at 18:27:03:543: Thread-14: B2B - (DEBUG) oracle.tip.adapter.b2b.exchange.generic.GenericExchangePlugin:decodeIncomingMessage Transport Protocol = {SFTP}

    So, the timestamp gets ignored (as there is no "_" delimiter), but it still fails, probably because there is no timestamp in the filename.
    So, why won't the UI correctly set the IDC filename_format or Internal filename_format ?

    here said not find the remote partner, but in B2B server, can ping Echoserver.
    what is wrong?

    Hello again,
    I have tried all different combinations with the IP addresses and host names, but to no avail. Then I changed the Trading Partner Identification Type from MLLP Id to Sending Application (one of the customer requirements is to be able to identify the Trading Partner by the combination of Sending App/Sending Facility, since they are running multiple HL7 applications on one host). However, I still see the same error in the log file - for some reason, B2B is still trying to identify the Trading Partner by the MLLP Id. Redeploying the configuration didn't help, the requested identification type is ignored.
    Please help! If needed, I can send the B2B log file, but maybe I'm missing something obvious.
    BTW, the customer has installed the patch for bug 6439217 on October 10th. The B2B version is 10.1.2.2.0.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Silent install of 10.1.0 (MUI) Reader and patches leaves teh previous Version in Add remove prog

    Hello,
    having major issues with a silent install to 3300 users.
    I Have a vb script that runs in SCCM to install reader 10.1.0 (MUI) and the increnetal patches for 10.1.1 and 10.1.2 both MUI.  I have created a transform to not use a desktop icon, turn on protect mode and supress the eula.  3 problems.
    1.  The script searches for old versions and completly install the mui version over all with the following command line:
    "AcroRead.msi TRANSFORMS=AcroRead.mst PATCH="AdbeRdrUpd1011_MUI.msp; AdbeRdrUpd1012_MUI.msp" ALLUSERS=1 LANG_ID=1033 PRODUCTLANGUAGE=1033 LEAVE_PDFOWNERSHIP=YES REMOVE_PREVIOUS=YES EULA_ACCEPT=YES SUPPRESS_APP_LAUNCH=YES /qn /norestart /LOG c:\progra~1\Adobe\AdobeReader10.1.2.log"
    Setup.ini file reads:
    [Startup]
    RequireOS=Windows 2000
    RequireMSI=3.0
    RequireIE=6.0.2600.0
    CmdLine=/sl"1033" /rs /sPB
    [Product]
    msi=AcroRead.msi
    CmdLine=TRANSFORMS="AcroRead.mst"
    Languages=1033
    1033=English (United States)
    [Windows 2000]
    PlatformID=2
    MajorVersion=5
    ServicePackMajor=4
    [MSI Updater]
    Path=http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/8.x/8.0/misc/WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2 -x86.exe
    Problems on about 100 computers so far:
    1.  If the system had 10.1.1  and not the 10.1.1 MUI and 10.1.2 MUI stay in Add Remove Programs
    2. Systems that get the full uninstall and reinstall  even if adobe is closed and browser is closed and user can not read files from the web or email after the complete install to 10.1.2 mui.  Adobe works locally.
    3.  Some systems appear to upgrade fine.
    HELP PLEASE!!!!

    With Administrative Installation Points I've always found it best to remove the old version first with a script using [msiexec.exe /x {APPLICATION_GUID} ] before installing the new AIP.  You should read the documentation about 10.x AIP though.

  • Adobe Reader 11 MUI failing to install using transform and patch 11.0.10 via cmd/SCCM in one package

    Hello,
    I have all the files, MST and the patch located in one folder. I am trying to use the following MSI command lines locally on my computer before I can attempt to deploy this via SCCM 2012. I am having issues either with the package not compatible or using /p and getting the MSIEXEC help window prompt. I've tried a few command lines:
    msiexec /i AcroRead.msi PATCH="AdbeRdrUpd11010_MUI.msp" TRANSFORMS="AcroRead.mst"
    msiexec /i AcroRead.msi /p AdbeRdrUpd11010_MUI.msp TRANSFORMS="AcroRead.mst"
    msiexec /i AcroRead.msi TRANSFORMS="AcroRead.mst" /p AdbeRdrUpd11010_MUI.msp
    Adding /qn on the end makes the install work silently when not attempting to include the patch, but fails to install it silently when only using the transform file that I have selected in the wizard to silently install.
    We have 5 different versions from 8.0 through 10.0 in our environment of 3000 machines. Sadly this was not managed before...I can easily update our current 11.0 versions that range from 11 to 11.0.09 by only applying the patch to them but need to get the full install working for the 2500 machines I need to target.
    I tried using the /a command which seems to work, but creates program files and common files folders inside my adobe folder on the desktop when executing it from the cmd. Am i suppose to package that folder all in one and then use the /i command to install adobe? I've been researching for a week but finally hit a wall where I dont think I am getting anywhere.
    Thank you in advance,
    Kevin

    I have almost answered my own question as I just came across this link
    https://it-god.co.uk/deploy-adobe-reader-xi-11-0-10-with-sccm-2012/
    This is for the plain reader version, but we use MUI now (due to other languages required in our environmet). I get to the part where it asks to apply the patch to the AIP folder but it fails.
    msiexec /p AdbeRdrUpd11010.msp /a C:\Reader\11.0.10\AcroRead.msi
    I changed this to account for the MUI naming,
    msiexec /p AdbeRdrUpd11010_MUI.msp /a C:\Reader\11.0.10\AcroRead.msi
    But I get the windows prompt that says this package can not be opened, please verify. I ensured that both the patch and base install were MUI versions, and i downloaded fresh copies of each. I also unblocked the patch so that it can run. No luck so far.
    EDIT: Using another guide i found the command line (modified the path to my location) and this worked,
    msiexec /a C:\adobe\Reader\11.0.10\AcroRead.msi /qb /p AdbeRdrUpd11010_MUI.msp TARGETDIR=C:\adobe\Reader\11.0.10\
