Patching Domain controllers on different days. Can this cause issues

You fellas are awesome. Thanks for the peace of mind.

We have a few domain controllers that need to be patched. 2 for one of our locations and 2 for the other. They are both on different subnets however they do replicate AD information. My plan were to patch the two domain controllers tonight for one of our locations. Then patch the others on a different night for the other locations. My question is will this cause any replication issues since the two DCs would have different updates and service packs? I remember having this issue with exchange when I did this but Exchange was in a DAG which the AD boxes arent. Any replies are much appreciated.

Since all Intel i3 processors have at least 2 cores, your specs are well above the requirements; see http://ark.intel.com/products/family/75025#@All
I have some computers with far slower processors, and Flash Player 14 works perfectly well on them too.

  • Sync To CRM Time - Does This Cause Issues For Anyone Else?

I have been a long-time Eloqua user. Primarily, the companies that I have worked are B-to-B and serve small businesses.  In the small business lead generation world, when you wait to respond to leads - you lose. The first one in usually gets the deal.  We have all of our lead generation activities running through Eloqua, including our PPL campaigns where multiple competitors are also responding to RFQ's and also our inbound sales call center uses it (via form) to submit leads in order to take advantage of the de-duplication and validation power in Eloqua.  The latter causes my sales team to wait 15 minutes while they are they are waiting for the lead to get created and transferred to them in CRM.
Here is my issue.  At best, it takes Eloqua 15 minutes to sync the leads to SFDC.  These programs are "straight to queue" integrations too.  I am running integration events straight from the form processing steps, so there are no program builder delays here.  The guys in Support have been really great, and have been working with me to see what can be done to decrease the lag time, but 15 minutes seems to be the acceptable rate. So, I am starting to think of ways to take them directly to SFDC and just live with the issues of duplicates and no validation.
I can't be the only one that this causes issues for.  Does anyone else have this issue?

    Hi John,
I too have had these issues.  The main problem is not program builder.  The integration queue/engine is prone to backlogs.  Rumor has it that the integration engine is shared by the campaign engine and a bunch of other services in the platform.  Either way, the integration queue will always have a lag.
    My solution was:
    1.  Push data from ELQ form to a SFDC Web-toLead Form IF ELQ contact has blank LeadID and ContactID (does not exist in SFDC) -- this creates leads instantly in SFDC.
    2.  Run an apex trigger from SFDC to do a blind form submit to Eloqua with the email address and SFDC Lead ID for the leads created from step1 -- this will ensure that creating duplicate leads in SFDC is minimized.
    3.  Send notifications from ELQ form to Sales Reps if ELQ contact already exists in SFDC as Lead or Contact. -- even without the updates on the lead or contact records in sfdc, this gives the reps an immediate heads up.
    4.  Send the rest of the information that I couldn't fit into the post-data-to-server step for the new lead.
Of course I also baked into the form processing steps a bunch of conditions to mitigate spam.

  • I want to have 2 seperate libraries with content in different locations, can this be done?

Hi there, I have 2 uses for itunes, one is for my mobile DJ business and for this I store all of my music on a 2TB external firewire 800 HDD I use Traktor Pro to mix, but find itunes very good for creating playlists.  I would however like to be able to store seperate content on my internal drive in a different library for personal use as a great deal of the stuff in my DJ collection I personally have no time for, and do not want the inconvenience of needing to connect my external HDD to be able to listen to my own collection.  I have a SSD installed and have tried depressing the CMD button during startup of the application although no option for creating a new library presents its self, it may be that the start up is too quick for me to be able out this.  Any ideas guys? Many thanks.

Can this be done? If so, how?
there may be other (better) ways out there but all i can think of is this:
    1) make one iTunes library the main one and "consolidate" files that aren't in it, but in the other computer's libraries, to it.
you can use home sharing for this but home sharing won't copy ratings, playcounts, and original "date added". a 3rd party tool such as PowerTunes would be very useful if those details are important to you.
    2) once the "main" library is created, copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music or media folder) to the media server, launch iTunes while holding the option(⌥) key, click on choose library when prompted, and select the iTunes folder you copied to the new location.
    3) repeat with the other Macs.
with a setup such as this, be aware that only one iTunes at a time can access the library. if your intention is to enable multiple machines to access the library simultaneously, you will probably have look into a NAS with a built-in iTunes server.

  • Primary Key - non sequenced - can this cause problems??

We are seeing some strange explain plans for some queries in our 10.2.0.3 database. It just seems to me that Oracle is not using the index(es) that we expect it to use. In our discussions it was brought up that the data in the Primary Key fields in our tables are not sequential at all. I am wondering if this can be causing some issues with Oracle and it's explain plans.
Can the fact that our PK fields are not sequential be causing some issues with Oracle and the optimizer?

    Things to consider:

  • Computer space limited....can this cause it to crash?

It would appear that I may not have enough disc space for the newer Adobe Photo program and conerned it might crash!
    Can this be corrected?

    Hi BABryant,
If you do not have enough space for the new program, it might result on slower functioning of the program and the computer as well.
I will not be surprised if the program crashes too. Please free up some space on the hard disk removing unused / unnecessary softwares.

  • In downloading some games requires install of flash pgm, can this cause damage to the operating system?

I am new to Mac book pro world, wanted to run some games from website, or downloads. They require install of "Flash" f appl. Could this cause any damage to the Mac Operating System?   (I'm used to the PC Microsoft world)
    Thanks, Tom

Won't cause any damage. Apple just stopped including Flash in its default installation a while back, but there is no problems with you installing it. Just be warned that Flash apps tend to really drain your battery quickly.

  • My computer message says NSPR fails, see mozilla for download / can this cause flashcrash? am i expected to buy?

The two crash reports with the "bp" prefix are problems with plugins (Flash).
You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
*downgrade the Flash player to version 10.3 or 11.2

  • Virtual Domain Controllers in 2012 Failover Cluster. Time Skew

    Hi All,
Not sure if this is the correct space for this topic, however i'll give it a go anyway.
We have a 2 Hosts (HP DL385) Windows Server 2012 Failover Cluster.
Storage is provided by a 12 Bay NAS with iSCSI connections (This is catering for CSV's and Quorum)
We are running 2 Virtual domain controllers (2008R2)
The issue we experience is that if the cluster goes down, and when it comes back online the time on the domain controllers (one or the other or both) skews by any where up to 3 days which causes havoc for our office until we can resync clocks with the PDCe.
Time Synchronisation Integration Service is disabled on both Domain Contollers
A few days back we need to reboot the storage on the cluster, and the tasks performed were as follows:
-Power off all virtual machines (Graceful Shutdown)
-Put all CSV's into maintenance mode
    -Offline Disk Witness to Quorum
-Rebooted Storage (Waited until it came back online)
    -Online Quorum Storage (Successful)
-Bring CSV's out of maintenance mode (Successful & Browsable)
-Power on all Virtual Machines (Successful)
This is where the time Skewed and caused headaches. The time for some reason went to 2 days 11hrs in the past on 1 domain controller.
With this DNS lookups failed to work, Cluster services failed, Cluster Aware Updating Failed, RDP to VM's (and Virtual Hosts) by DNS Name failed (Date time error)
There doesn't seem to be anything in the EventLog except for date/time stamp on events being 2 days in the past.
Now this is why i'm not sure if the issue is cause by fail over clustering, or is an issue with the domain controllers.
Any advice regarding this or if anyone has seen this behaviour before any info would be great
    Thanks
    Rob

    Hi Rob,
Does both this two DCs on your cluster VM and there have not others DCs? Microsoft recommends that files for virtualized domain controllers be placed on non-CSV
disks, Non-CSV disks can be brought online without authentication. Because non-CSV disks can be brought online more easily.
For virtual machines that are configured as domain controllers, it is recommended that you disable time synchronization between the host system and guest operating
system acting as a domain controller. This enables your guest domain controller to synchronize time from the domain hierarchy, please confirm your PDC time is always correct.

  • One way trust WMI issues - only on domain controllers

    Hi all,
I'm having some interesting issues with attempting to setup remote monitoring via WMI from a trusted domain service account to some remote domains in our environment. There is a one way trust setup, and the service account has no problems with any client
machines, but gets rejected when attempting to query the domain controllers.
I've verified this is an issue both in our enterprise and production environment. I assumed it had something to do with the Domain Controller Security Policy and added the account in question to the following policies to no avail:
Act as part of the operating system
Log on as a batch job
    Log on as a service
    Replace a process level token
Now I'm beginning to suspect it's something to do with not being able to add the service account to the "domain admins" group, however I'd much rather a solution that didn't involve giving this account admin privileges at all.
I've given the account read permissions to /root/CIMv2 via the WMI control MMC snap-in, as well as DCOM remote enable and added it to the "Distributed COM Users" and "Performance Monitor Users" groups.
I'm fully out of ideas and my google-fu is failing. Anyone hit this before?

    Hi,
Yes, you will need to know the credentials of the domain admin in the trusted domain.
You can try to use Get-WmiObject command, and input trusted domain administrator’s credentials, which should give you admin privileges.

  • Re: Can it cause harm to keep my laptop running 24x7

I'm running a proxy server on my laptop which requires it to be up and running 24x7. Can this cause harm to a laptop in the long run ??. Are they designed to be left on permanently ?????

The reason I've ended up for using my Laptop as the Proxy server and squidguard , is that my PC with 8Gb of ram blew up. I've disable the option to hibernate/sleep when the lid get's closed so it is closed permanently, and I only acces it from my other PC using VNC. I've also bought a laptop stand to help with heating issues.
I was just concerned about the guarantee should it be running 24x7, as I know the purpose of laptops is mostly to carry arround which in effect tells me that they were build rather for frequent shutdown/restarts, than running continiuosly.
I've also seen on a lot of forums that you do more damage to PC's/Laptops by swthing them on/off all the time, due to voltage spikes on switching the power back on.

  • Sequence cache (can it cause lock when.....)

    it is set to 0?
We have a sequence that is used as a key in a table. If many users try to select next val from it at once and the cache is 0, can this cause the application to lock?
(I know this sounds far fitch but the only question not ask is a stupid question)

I would also ask why you were setting a sequence to
NOCACHE if there is the potential for many users to
access it simultaneously. Frequently used sequences
ought to have appropriately sized caches.
Folks that set sequences to NOCACHE are frequently
trying to prevent gaps in their sequences. While
setting a sequence to NOCACHE will tend to decrease
the probability of gaps, it will not eliminate them.
If your application absolutely requires a gap-free
e sequence, you cannot use Oracle sequences and you
have to deal with the (significant) performance
penalty of serializing all transactions on the next
    sequence value.

It was not the idea of the dba here, but the application programmers (we should be shot for allowing them to tell us this). They did not believe us when we told them that the sequences would not roll back... I reset the cache to a number other than 0...
    Thanks all for the feedback

  • The box indicating that this domain controller is the last controller for the domain is unchecked. However, no other Active Directory domain controllers for that domain can be contacted

I have 2 domain controllers running 2003 server, server1 and server2. I ran dcpromo on server1 and removed AD and removed him from the domain and disconnected from network. I then added a 2012 server
with the same name and IP address server1 with no problem. Replication from sites and services work fine on both controllers.
The new 2012 server1 is GC. I transferred all FSMO roles to server1. Again no problem and replicating using sites and services. AD on server1 is populated correctly.
Now what I had intended on doing was a dcpromo to remove server2 from the domain so I can then add another 2012 server. That is when I get the: "The box indicating that this domain controller is the last controller for the domain
is unchecked. However, no other Active Directory domain controllers for that domain can be contacted.
I have DNS installed on both servers and both look good with replicating there. Strange thing is when on the 2012 server within DNS if I right click and connect to another DNS server I can add server2 just fine but from server2 adding server1 it tells me it
    is not available.
    Help please!

    Hi,
As there is server 2012 DC (SERVER1) DC is operational in a domain then "This domain controller is the last controller for the domain" should be remain unchecked when you demote SERVER2 DC.
If you are getting error "Active Directory domain controllers for that domain can be contacted" while demoting SERVER2 DC then check the DNS pointing on both as per below article, disable windows firewall on all DC, less possiblities but worth to check if both
are different site then check the ports are open on firewall.

run “ipconfig /flushdns & ipconfig /registerdns“, restart DNS server and NETLOGON service on each DC and try to demote server2 DC.
If issue reoccurs, post dcdiag /q result.
NOTE: If initial replication was completed between both DC (new 2012 and old DC) then you may remove the server2 DC from Active Directory forcefully (DCPROMO /FORCEREMOVAL) and perform metadata cleanup.
