Patching on a Dual node

Hi ,
Can you please explain me , what should be the process of applying a patch
on a dual node ebiz environment .
for ex if all of my application tier(forms, reports, admin, apache etc) is on one node and my database on other node .
when applying a patch , should i be applying the patch on both nodes ? or should i be applying on only application tier node ?
is there any difference applying a patch on a single node and multinode please
kind regards
Krish

  • Patching Mechanism in 2 Node Installation

    hi,
I have 2 Node Installation like this
    (a) Database Node with CM processing
    (b) Application Node with All Application Services except CM..
If I want to apply any patch(now a days all the patches having U driver) ..I think I need to apply the patch on both the nodes..right..please comment on this

    Hi,
If you are using a shared application tier file system you need to apply applications and applications tier technology stack patches only on the Application Node.

  • Applying patches to physical standby node(Data Guard 10.2.0.3)

    Hello,
I have a data guard 10.2.0.3 environment (1 primary and 1 physical standby on a separate node) on solaris 10 and i want to document the procedure in applying patches to this environment.
I saw the article in Metalink Note 278641.1 which describes the procedure in applying a patchset to both nodes. It looks like both nodes need to be down before applying the oracle patchset.
Can we not apply the patches on only the standby while the primary stays up and running? My guess is you can't if the patches are significant i.e. it changes versions of the oracle binaries. But i want to confirm this.
Also, if we are applying solaris patches, i.e. nothing related to Oracle, we should be able to just apply them to the standby while keeping the primary up and running right?
The following has worked so far but i wanted to find some documentation that confirms it's ok.
    1. shutdown oracle on standby node.
    2. apply solaris patches...
    3. restart oracle on standby node and put in managed recovery mode.
    Any comments are appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi
Did you get an answer for your question yet? I have the same problem with one of our databases. Would be very nice, if you could tell me.

  • Need to apply PATCH&HF for other nodes??

    Hi guys,
I got one confuse. I have host A to be DB HOST(ORACLE 9205), Host B& host C to be cluster nodes for EP6 SP2 PATCH4 HF7. I installed portal & CM on HOST B, applied PATCH4 HF7, then applied CM PATCH 4 HF5. very thing work fine than I installed addtional dialog instance at host C.
the problem is , when host C 's server node startup, there is a CM startup error in the console log. the error msg. is :
com.sapportals.wcm.repository.ResourceException: CM Startup failed: CM startup failed: Failed to init. connection pool configuration: Failed to init. connection pool configuration: missing plugin /cm/utilities/connection_pools
I make sure the config_local.properties file is ok, SAPWCM's password is ok too.
after I install the dialog instance, I didn't apply any patches for host C , is that right? please guide me

    Hi Jochen,
My problem is due to I got 4 server nodes, the connections to the ORACLE is too much. There is a note mentioned how to increase ORACLE's default process and session no. Search "oracle process 80" at OSS you can find that note.
    wish this can help you.

  • ITS 6.20 patch level 18 - dual host - Linux/Apache

Has anyone had to deal with the error message?
    "Error in EnviInitialize, rc=1100"
This is diplayed when starting Apache.  I suspect it's from the Wgate component that Apache is trying to start.
I setup a dual-host ITS, and it worked fine: I could access services on the application server(a 4.6C system), etc.  Then I went through the process to have the two communicate via SNC.
And now, whenever I start Apache, I get this error message.  Apache itself does start, but the wgate component doesn't appear to be running because I try and access an SAP service, I get an error message from Apache(page not found), instead of a error message from SAP.
    Thx,
    Kevin.

    Hello Kevin,
yes, the error message is from the wgate.
This is a bootstrap issue in initializing the low-level functionality (reading ITS registry, tracing, etc). If this failes the wgate is not able to read its parameters or write traces, the only thing it can do is to write to the apache log (or stdout) and return to the server.
Since tracing (and other stuff) is not in-place there are no more hints to get to the cause.
What I can think of is:
syntax errors in (one of) the xml files (probably ItsRegistryWGATE.xml)
    >> Please check your changes again (end tags and slashes), or take them out one by one.
Apache runtime user is changed and due to that the XML files are no longer accessable.
The rights of the XML files (ITS registry) are changed and no longer accessable.

  • Dual node problem

    Problem:
I have a Sun box with 2 nodes (2 CPU's with non-shared memory but shared hard disk).
A Java developed system will be running concurrently on both nodes (i.e. failure reduction).
The problem is that both processes need access to a common registry (with fast access, several million accesses per day). Therefore the registry will be in the memory of one of the nodes, but what happens if that node fails then the other node won't be able to access the registry. Since this defeats the object of 2 nodes I need a solution.
Any ideas?? I'm stumped short of introducing a third node!!
    Thanks in advance
    Nick

Does your several million accesses per day negate the option of using a file on the shared disc - to contain the common registry
You could use another file as a semaphore to control which Node has got access rights (BUT you would have to build in some sort of Semaphore release timeout in case of NODE failure) - do the nodes share a common clock source for file write timestamping ??
Otherwise, I guess you wil have to build in some sort of Registry replication and 'handshake' mechanism to determine loss of the other Node - perhaps by having the 2 Nodes exchange a counter of elapsed time since Node start-up (ie the longest running Node should have the latest Registry settings)

  • Dual Node CWA Redirect

    Hi,
we are using two ISE nodes for guest authentication (CWA) in our wireless network. We have an inside interface (eth0) on the ISE and a public interface (eth1), accessable for the wireless clients.
At the moment i make a redirect to the ip address of the primary ISE:
For backup purposes, this is not a good idea. So I tried to configure an ip host 10.x.x.x FQDN with the ip address of eth1 and the FQDN of eth1 and removed the static host parameter in the common tasks of the CWA configuration page.
But then the wireless guests will be redirected to the FQDN of eth0, which is the wrong IP and not reachable for him.
    What am i doing wrong?
ISE Version is 1.2.1 and i restarted the services after configuring the ip host part.

    Hi
You can configure custom portal to perform Client Provisioning and Posture. If you select this option, the guest login flow performs a CWA and the guest portal will be redirected to Client Provisioning after performing AUP and change password checks. In this case, the posture subsystem performs a CoA to the NAD to re-authenticate the client connection once the posture has been assessed.
If Vlan Dhcp Release is selected under Multi-Portal Configurations, posture will perform the client side IP release and renew operation. Check the Vlan Dhcp Release option to refresh Windows clients IP address after VLAN change in both wired or wireless environments for Guest with posture.
This affects the CWA user login flow when the network access during the final authorization switches the guest VLAN to a new VLAN. In this case, the old IP of the guest needs to be released before the VLAN change and a new guest IP needs to be requested through DHCP once the new VLAN access is in place. The Cisco ISE server redirects the guest browser to download an applet to perform the IP release renew operation.

  • Linux 2.6.9-42 EL Firewire driver problem in building a dual node RAC-10g

    Hi,
I have tried everything I can to resolve this Linux Firewire driver/module (sbp2+ohci1394+sd_mod)issue to no avail; will someone please help?
I have followed all procedures in Jeff Hunter's paper to get Linux on my x86_64 Compaq PC to work and I get stalled where Firewire disk drive does not get recognized by the installed Linux system (USB port does see the drive). I have tried both Cenots 4.2 (complains it does not see the native hard drive during installation and aborts the installation process), and Centos 4.4 (does not have sbp2 and ohci1394 anywhere to be found -- even after I find where they are and copy them to the appropriate directory the system fails to incorporate them).
I need to get past this hurdle. Please let me know what URLs I should use to get a working Linux version along with the appropriate patches… The following are the URL's to the white papers in which I have been following the procedures:
    http://www.rampant-books.com/art_hunter_rac_linux_kernel_firewire_modules.htm
    and
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/hunter_rac10gr2.html
I am now trying RHL 2.6.9.-42.EL (RHEL AS 4.0 Update 4 x86_64 GA) and don't get it to load the appropriate modules to recognize the Firewire Drive either. I get sbp2 and ohci1394 "FATAL: Module sbp2/ohci1394 not found" error when I do: "modprobe sbp2/ohci1394" and “modprobe –r sd_mod” complains about device being in use, "modprobe sd_mode" seems to work.
Once again, thanks for any pointers/directions you may be able to provide me.

THe downloaded firewire module must match the kernel version
    linux1:/lib/modules> uname -a
    Linux linux1 2.6.9-42.EL #1 Wed Jul 12 23:16:43 EDT 2006 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
This is latest version you can download from oss.oracle.com
    oracle-firewire-modules-2.6.9-42.0.3.EL-1286-1.i686.rpm
But it doesn't match ! I can't find kernel 2.6.9-42.0.3.EL in Redhat website. I have same problem.
    Firewire drivers are installed at:
    linux1:/lib/modules> ll /lib/modules/2.6.9-42.0.3.EL/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/
    total 2200

    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 217082 Oct 23 14:08 sbp2.ko
But my OS can't find the ieee1394 drivers because it looks at this path only:
    linux1:/root> ls /lib/modules/2.6.9-42.EL/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/
    No such file or directory
If I can't find 2.6.9-42.0.3.EL release I will downgrade to RHEL update 2.

In my case, I have11 5.10.2 with a shared APPL_TOP for most of the modules but have a separate external apps tier outside our local network sitting in DMZ - but I can see only one record for each bug at least for all that were applied in the last 100 days.

How should I apply this patch? Should I rollback path 12311357 and reapply both together?
    Thanks.

Thanks. Although it is true my grid user environment doesnt contain /usr/ccs/bin in the PATH variable, opatch seems to know where to find those commands. I have included it in the PATH but the error persists.
On the other hand I have seen lib directory under GI HOME, where libclntsh.so link should be created applying the patch, belongs to root with 755 permissions. IS THIS CORRECT? Then grid user never will be able to create the link reported in the opatch error above :
ln: cannot create libclntsh.so: Permission denied
    ar: cannot create shoc.o
    Permission denied
    So, What is wrong?
    Thanks again.

  • What are the preferred methods for backing up a cluster node bootdisk?

    Hi,
I would like to use flarcreate to backup the bootdisks for each of the nodes in my cluster... but I cannot see this method mentioned in any cluster documentation...
Has anybody used flash backups for cluster nodes before (and more importantly - successfully restored a cluster node from a flash image..?)
    Thanks very much,
    Trevor

Hi, some backround on this - I need to patch some production cluster nodes, and obviously would like to backup the rootdisk of each node before doing this.
What I really need is some advice about the best method to backup & patch my cluster node (with a recovery method also).
The sun documentation for this says to use ufsdump, which i have used in the past - but will FLAR do the same job? - has anyone had experiance using FLAR to restore a cluster node?
Or if someone has some other solutions for patching the nodes? - maybe offline my root mirror (SVM) - patch root disk - barring any major problems - online the mirror again??
    Cheers, Trevor
