Patching RHEL AS 3
Hi All,
Currently I am running 10g AS(9.0.4) on RHEL AS 3 with the shipped kernel/glibc packages. I have patched many of the other packages to the latest versions from Redhat but am wondering whether I can patch these also to the latest versions without breaking the Oracle installation.
Thanks
Chris
Not sure to understand your issue.... you can set the pause, for example
SQL> set pages 24 pause on pause "Press Enter "
SQL> select table_name from user_tables;or you can spool the result
SQL> set pages 9999
SQL> spool tables
SQL> select table_name from user_tables;then edit/list tables.lst.
... or increase the lines of scrollback in your ssh emulator.

To Forum Users,
Below is my issue description:
OPS Center 12C is successfully installed & configured on RHEL 5.9 but post installation while trying to configure controller (enterprise & proxy) using http url it redirect to secure port https but doent promts login screen page. Later i found RHEL 5.9 O.S doen't support Ops center 12c.
Did oracle have any bug / patches for this issue ? or any planned release for / against this vulnerabilities ?Hello AkankshaSheoranKaler
We have done the following, but we aren't able to resolve this issue. Thank you for your help!
lf
“This happen if the software library is not accessible, readable or unmounted (if it is in shared file system).”
On Enterprise Manager server [nsn175-105], we did the following:
1. we modified /etc/exports to include this line: /export *(rw,no_root_squash,sync)
we start nfs service by executing command “service nfs start”.
On Management Agent server (nsn175-89), we verified that we are able to mount /export directory of EM server.
On Management Agent server, we started firefox browser and were able to run successfully https://nsn175-105.us.oracle.com:4904/empbs/genwallet
After making this change, we ran agent deployment again. We encountered the same error as shown above.
“You can fix the software library or you can download the agent bits in offline mode.”
For fixing the software library, select Setup->Provision and Patching->Offline Patching, then select Offline Patching radio button, download: https://updates.oracle.com/download/em_catalog.zip. Next upload this zip file.
“Try downloading the bits again”
We are not sure what agent bits are. Would you please explain this and provide procedure how we can download this?
(Here I have attempted to fix the software library, but I am new to Enterprise Manager and not sure how to interpret this). -
I have comms suite installed on Linux. I'd like to get the Convergence 2 patch 1, but it seems I need a support contract. Yet, I can't find Oracle Communications Unified Suite in the store. What am I missing?
Oracle Communications Unified Communications Suite (the formal name) is part of Oracle's Communications Global Business Unit (CGBU). CGBU products are not available through the online store, so you need to contact Oracle sales to get licensed. 1-800-417-0059. Or you can get a callback from Oracle by going to this page <http://www.oracle.com/us/industries/communications/index.html> and clicking on "Have Oracle call you."

BO XI 3.0 on RHEL 5.2
Hi everyone,
The supported platforms guide says that BO XI 3.0 supports RHEL 4 and higher patches, we are planning to install it on RHEL 5.2, is this installation safe? is this installation supported?
Thanks,
FabioHello Fabio,
I recommend to post this query to the [BusinessObjects Enterprise Administration|BI Platform; forum.
This forum is dedicated to topics related to administration and configuration of BusinessObjects Enterprise, BusinessObjects Edge, and Crystal Reports Server.
It is monitored by qualified technicians and you will get a faster response there.
Also, all BOE Administration queries remain in one place and thus can be easily searched in one place.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS/ES 4.0 2.3.4-2 To determine installation status, enter: $ rpm -q glibc
Domain Name System (DNS) Resolver Parameters
Two Domain Name System (DNS) resolver parameters (timeout and attempts) are set by default to low values when the operating system is installed. These low values may cause attempted network connections to an Oracle database to fail. If this happens, add or update the following entries to these minimum settings in the /etc/resolv.conf file on each server node:
options attempts:5
options timeout:15
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS/ES 3.0 and 4.0 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 and 9
Verifying Host Names
Use the following to verify host name settings:
For Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS/ES 3.4 and 4.0:
Verify that the /etc/hosts file is formatted as follows:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain
<ip_address> <node_name>.<domain_name>
Verify that the /etc/sysconfig/network file is formatted as follows:
HOSTNAME=<node_name>.<domain_name>
If the /etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles/default/network file exists, remove it.
If you changed any files in the previous steps, restart the system.
Modifying the Number of Open File Descriptors
Open the /etc/security/limits.conf file and change the existing values for "hard" and "soft" parameters as follows. Restart the system after making changes.
For Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS/ES 3.0, 4.0, and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9:
hard nofile 65535
soft nofile 4096
Modifying Port Range Values
Open the /etc/sysctl.conf file and change the value of net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range as follows. Restart the system after making changes.
net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 10000 65000
Please note that this range is a recommended range, and may need to be adjusted according to the specific needs of the user's environment in order to avoid port conflicts.
Setting the Environment
Verify that the host name setting is correct. The command should return a fully qualified host name. For example: <host_name>.<domain_name>.
# hostname
For the hugemem kernel, install rpm setarch-1.0-2 or higher. (For up, smp, and boot kernels, omit this step.) This step is not required for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8.
# setarch i386
Completing Preinstallation Tasks
Complete these tasks after you set the environment variables and before you begin the installation steps described in Installing Oracle Applications.
Unset the NLS_LANG environment variable, if it is defined prior to installation.
Apply one of these OS library patches: 4198954 (for Red Hat 4.0) or 3006854 (for Red Hat 3.0). You can download these patches from OracleMetaLink.
Restart your system.
groupadd dba
useradd -g dba appltest
useradd -g dba oratest
Completing Postinstallation Tasks
After the installation is complete, perform the following tasks in addition to the ones described in Installing Oracle Applications:
Apply patch 4632932 to all the application tiers, then re-source the applications environment file to refresh the environment variables. This patch is required for setting the values for LD_ASSUME_KERNEL and LD_PRELOAD.
Should be missing kernel parameters and some other utilities like ar,make,gcc etc
Thanks,
SMHi,
Please can someone help me to get the Patch 4198954. Why don't you download it from MOS website? I believe no one is supposed to download the patch from MOS and send it to you by email as this violates Oracle support agreement policy.
Thanks,

Adogjf Unable to generate jar files under JAVA_TOP error while patching
Hi,
I'm upgrading my version of Java from 1.3.1_19 to 1.5.0_17. I downloaded the jdk-1_5_0_17-linux-i586.bin file and unpackaged it to /u0/<SID>/<SID>db/10.2.0. It unpackaged it to a new directory jdk1.5.0_17 (/u0/<SID>/<SID>db/10.2.0/jdk1.5.0_17), whereas the old version is in a directory jdk (/u0/<SID>/<SID>db/10.2.0/jdk).
Having done that I had to run an interoperability patch (4372996). Upon running this patch I received an error at the end:
adogjf() Unable to generate jar files under JAVA_TOP
There were no other errors.
I think the problem has to do with where my new java version is located but I'm not sure. I'm thinking that it's still looking under the old JAVA_TOP (/u0/<SID>/<SID>db/10.2.0/jdk) when I want it to look under the new JAVA_TOP (/u0/<SID>/<SID>db/10.2.0/jdk1.5.0_17). So, should I move the contents from the new directory (jdk1.5.0_17) to the old directory (jdk) or is there a way to 'point' it to the new JAVA_TOP.
Please let me know if I'm totally off base and there's another solution. We're currently on EBS 11.5.10.2, DB 10.2.0.4 and RHEL 4 Update 5.
Thanks,
Lia.Here you go. Hope this helps you to help me :-). Thanks.

Installing Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.2.0.2 on RHEL 5.3
Dear All,
My Linux version is RedHat 5.3
I want to Install oracle 10g Application Server on it please help me out to do so.
Please help me,thanks in advance.
Please provide me with the documentation link to install Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.2.0.2 on RHEL5.3

Said that OAS 10.1.2.0.2 is desupported, you have to apply patch 10.1.2.3 to be fully certified on OEL/RHEL 5.

Help deciding whether to Patch, Upgrade or Fresh Install
Soon we will be upgrading one of the Oracle database targets to 11gR1 (11.1.0.7).
Here is the existing OEM Grid Control configuration:
* RHEL 4 Update 1
* GC 10.2.0.2
* Repository: 10.1.0.5 (single instance)
* Agents 10.2.0.3
* 17 Hosts targets
* 13 Database targets
* 10 User Defined Metrics
To monitor the upgraded 11gR1 target database, I have the following options:
OPTION 1) Patch GC to 10.2.0.5
OPTION 2) Patch GC to 10.2.0.5, then upgrade to 11g (11.1.0.1)
Installing the 10.2.0.5 patch set would require less effort than upgrading to 11g, but let’s suppose the final goal is to upgrade to:
*RHEL 5 Update 2 (on a new virtual server)
*GC 11.1.0.1
*Repository: 11.2.0.1
Knowing we have Option 2, I wonder if there might be third Option. For example:
OPTION 3) Fresh install of OEM 11g Grid Control and manually add targets and UDMs
My question is Option 3 feasible and would it be less effort than Option 2 given the ease with which agents can discover various targets?Choose Option 3

#### Therafter i run dbassist and I create the db and all went well.
When i followed the same procedure in RHEL 3.0 it goes smooth till applying patch glibc2.1.3_stub.tgz but thereafter when i try to create db using dbassist it gives me error like :
ORA-12545 Connect failed because target host or object does not exist.
Even if i tried to run svrmgrl it gives me error
:ORA-12545 Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
Could anyone help me in resolving that ? the same installation procedure works well for Redhat 8.0/9.0

JILI have given a proper entry in hosts file. The same problem persists. How did you restart the installation? Did you clean your previous installation?
Might be because of corrupt zip files ?Could be. How did you create the stage area? -
Installing OEM 10.2.0.5 on RHEL 5.2
Hi all,
I've been trying to install Oracle 10g R2 Enterprise Grid Control on RHEL 5.2 32-bit for week now with no luck.
In OUI, the Configuration assistant "Agent Configuration Assistant" failed.
When I tried to start it manually, I got the following error:
emctl start agent
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 10.2.0.1.0.
Copyright (c) 1996, 2005 Oracle Corporation.
Starting agent ..... failed.
The agentTZRegion value in /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/agent10g/sysman/config/emd.properties
is not in agreement with what agent thinks it should be.Please verify your environment
to make sure that TZ setting has not changed since the last start of the agent.
If you modified the timezone setting in the environment, please stop the agent
and exectute 'emctl resetTZ agent' and also execute the script mgmt_target.set_agent_tzrgn(<agent_name>, <new_tz_rgn>) to get the value propagated to repository.
Consult the log files in: /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/agent10g/sysman/log
I tried the steps to fix the TZ issue but eventually I knew it's a bug fixed in patch 10.2.0.5. But I cannot
apply batch with the installation itself not finished yet.
When I ignored the error and clicked on Next, the installation finished without creating the repository db.
Is there any step-by-step guide on installing Oracle 10g Enterprise Grid Control on RHEL 5.2 32-bit that really works?Thanks for the hint. It was really useful to me.
I re-did everything, in OUI I specified the software parent location as /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0
Yet, OUI created a directory /tmp/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db10g and installed the db there!

Installing Enterprise manager grid control 10.2.0.3 on RHEL 5 64Bit
I'm not able to install OEM Grid control 10.2.0.3 on RHEL5 64BIT and cannot find a document for the installation.
Could anyone give me here all the steps for this installation : all the package requirements or a link to achieve successfully the installation.
Thanks in advanceBe careful, if you have an older environment or a large variety of database versions in your install base the 11g version of OEM may not support them.
Follow these instructions (from My Oracle Support) to install the 10.2.0.3 base and patch up to 10.2.0.5 on RedHat 5:
If the link doesn't work, it's article 784963.1. Do not follow the installation guide or release notes from technet - they are incorrect and will only work for RHEL 4 and lower.
