Patching Setup

Hello All,
My RefreshfromMetalink job has been working fine for months. However, I just noticed that it stopped working a few days ago...My guess is it stopped when Metalink Authentication changed. I have updated the patching setup page so that my email address and new password is now used to access the http://updates.oracle.com website.
However, it's failing on "Oracle Metalink authorization failed".
I'm on GC 10.1 on Windows. Has anyone changed their patching setup and got it to work?

Created a new job RefreshfromMetalink and no luck.
So, you were able to get your job to run after the Metalink Authentication change?
Ok, can you stop/delete the refresh from metalink
job and create this job again,

I have done a fresh installation of 10.2.0.5 Grid control. Grid is running fine, but I could not configure the patching setup, my metalink user name and passwords are fine. I have two other 10.2.0.4 Grid environments are running they are working fine. I have used Direct connection to Internet, with out proxy.
This is the message I am getting.

Does any one facing this problem on 10.2.0.5? I am seeing a bug listed on metalink Bug No. 8485175 not sure it is a bug on windows side. My 10.2.0.5 grid is running on Windows 32 bit 2003 server.
Please let me know if anybody facing the same issue.

Thanks for the information. I didn't apply the patch. First I tried setting metalink credentials through proxy, the metalink credentials saved and apply button
worked fine with out any errors. I have logged out of the Grid and logged in back checked credentials they are saved tested refresh metalink job it ran
successfully.
Later I have shifted this patch setup back to Direct connection and tested apply still error is coming but credentials are saving. I have
tested logging out and logging in back to 10.2.0.5 grid. Tested a test refresh metalink job it ran successfully.
The interface of patch setup in 10.2.0.4 and 10.2.0.5 is bit different. This trick worked for me. Daily metalink refresh job is running fine on 10.2.0.5.
Initially I didn't try through proxy because all my other 10.2.0.4 patch setup are working fine using direct internet connection.

Unable to set up a Patching Setup section in Enterprise manager 11

Hi folks,
I have a problem with setting up a "Patching Setup" section in Enterprise manager. The problem is with a metalink login details. Is it the same as login details to support.orracle.com based on CSI number?
I have CSI number, I'm registered in support.oracle.com but don't have a metalink details. How can I get them, or how to set up that section correctly?

Yes, the credentials for OEM for the patch download section are the same as for MOS (support.oracle.com)

Gridcontrol Patching Setup fails

Hi,
I have installed grid control and trying to set up Patching Setup. In have given my metalink username and password and the url in the patch search URl is http://updates.oracle.com. I trid apply it says "Oracle MetaLink authorization failed. - Check the spelling of your username and retype the password, making sure that caps lock is off."
I tried to log in separately in metalink my username and password are valid. I went to proxy settings and all options like manual, direct connection to internet etc but it failed.
Am I missing something.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The url is there.. but after I hit apply, my userid gets cleared out up to my first name... ie
[email protected] becomes steven.. so my user is invalid in MetaLink

Patch Setup Fails

I am trying to do initial setup of 10.2.0.5 GridControl. I am on the "Patching Setup" page where I entered my oracle account, password and proxy settings. After first attempt I got this error.
Error: - Malformed URL: @&EM_SQL_ROOT/core/latest/ip/monitoring_outofbox_reports.sql. Correct the URL and try again. Exception message: @&EM_SQL_ROOT/core/latest/ip/monitoring_outofbox_reports.sql
Any idea?

Patch Setup For Multiple Songs / Digitech GNX 4 (two questions)

As per the title this is a two-question question.
1. A little bit of background: I play in a band and I've been using my laptop with MIDI controller since May. My current method is simple and a bit of a jury rig, but it works. We have a repertoire of about 80 songs for which I've created separate GarageBand files for each song containing each sound needed for a tune in a separate recording track. Of late, I've been needing a way to use two controllers to control two sounds and so I've just gotten Logic Studio and have been futzing with MainStage. My question is as follows:
It seems that theoretically I could make one Project file and literally load patches sorted by song for our entire repertoire, but it would cause my computer to be ridiculously slow since I only have 1GB RAM. Because I only have 1GB should I just make separate Project files for each song or is there a way I can load everything in one file without making the computer be slow? I do plan on upgrading the RAM to 4GB if this all works out.
2. I also have a Digitech GNX4. It has a USB port for computer recording and it's worked with Garage Band. Can I assume it will work with the guitar effects of MainStage? (The USB port is broken and since I haven't really needed it, I haven't had it repaired. If the GNX4 does work with MainStage, you can bet it's going to the repair center).
I've loaded some of the guitar effect presets that have like 20+ patches and it takes a long time to load which I'm guessing is tied to only having 1GB RAM.

I have two MIDI controllers; M-Audio Keystation 88es and Oxygen 61.
My live situation is 95% keys (my various sounds split between the two controllers), and just running my guitar clean direct to amp for the few tunes when I use it (my guitar is a Rickenbacker 360-12). We're starting a few new songs where I'll have to use my six string so that's why I was curious if my GNX4 via USB can, again, use the amp modeling for those few songs. It's on it's way to the repair shop so it'll be a few weeks before I can test it.

Errors on applying PSU patches for GI (Grid Infrastructure) 11.2.0.3

This is all in the version of 11.2.0.3.   We created a single node GI with ASM by the user grid.   Grid home is /grid/product/11.2/grid/   And oracle home created by user oracle at /oracle/product/11g.    I have downloaded the GI PSU patch 16742216 for GI and Oracle DB PSU patch 16619892.   I just want to apply the patch to GI home, then Oracle home with different PSU.   Here is what I did after unzip the patch for GI:
1.   Stopped ASM instance and stopped listener (these are owned by grid)
2. Created a ocm response file at grid home by grid user:   $ORACLE_HOME/OPatch/ocm/bin/emocmrsp   -no_banner
3. Use the root to run grid profile to setup grid GI environment
4. Use the root to run as (as described in Oracle instruction): opatch auto /home/grid/patches -ocmrf /grid/product/11.2/grid/OPatch/ocm/bin/ocm.rsp
But got this error.   For some reason it looks for Oracle home, not grid home, although I do not have any oracle home environment setup in root user:

July PSU 11.2.0.3 patch apply failed

We installed oracle GI (Grid Infrastructure) and Oracle 11.2.0.3 on a single node Linux.    The GI home is owned by the user grid to include ASM storage configuration and Oracle home is owned by user oracle.   After we installed GI home, configured ASM, installed oracle home, and created an oracle database (no listener was created at this point yet).   I tried to run the July PSU 11.2.0.3 patch for both GI and Oracle home.    Here is the procedure based on the oracle readme instruction:
Problem Description
This is single node Oracle EE installation of GI, ASM, and Oracle 11.2.0.3. We tried to apply the patch PSU (p16742216_112030_Linux-x86-64.zip). It is failed on GI apply. But oracle database home apply seems fine. GI home owned by user grid and Oracle DB home owned by user oracle.
Here is the procedure we did:
1. Download the patch set 16742216 for our Linux version and unzip to a location.
2. Download and upgrade the opatch to 11.2.0.3.4 (p6880880_112000_Linux-x86-64.zip)
3. Shutdown the DB, ASM (there is no listener on the DB configured yet).
4. As oracle user create the configure file: Create the ocm response file in turn off ocm option (run as oracle)

5. Run the command as root without any oracle environment variable setup

After that, I checked with opatch version.   It looks the Oracle DB Home patch applied fine, but not GI Home.     In the error message it shows the "crsctl stop has" command was failed .
Then, I tried to run the command manually by grid or root. Both were failed too. I am not sure why and need the solution on it.   Any suggestions?

Error while applying 10.2.0.2 patch on Oracle10g.

Hi All,
I am getting the below error while applying the 10.2.0.2 Patch setup on fresh Oracle10g.
"Error in writing to file D:\Oracle\product\10.2.0.2.0\bin\oraevrus10.dll"
I was getting the above error contniously after clicking retry button.But even my installtion was moving ahead and in the end shown the message Installtion Successful.
But after that I am not able to loging using the sqlplus.Getting the below error
"The procedure entry point kglsim_cln could not be located in the dynamic link library orageneric10.dl"
Anybody know this issue please let me know.

Thank you for your answer to rename the DLL file. That has worked now and I was able to continue the installation. I had the same problem with upgrade from 10.2.0.1.0 to 10.2.0.4.0.

Oracle 9i iDS (9.0.2.0.1) Core / Non-Core Patches

I realise that there are at least 3 patches available out there for Oralce 9i iDS (9.0.2.0.1) running on Windows XP Pro.
I am working with WebForms/WebReports migration project from 6i to 9i and running into all sort of errors. I get the feeling that many of my problems are already addressed by some Patches out there.
I am aware of the followin patches:
PatchSet 1: 2705870
PatchSet 2: 2842923
PatchSet 3: 3129219 (Non-Core PatchSet, PreRequisite Patch: 3038037)
I tried to apply PatchSet 3 directly without applying PatchSet1 / 2 not the Prerequisite Patch 3038037.
1) Can I apply the prerequisite patch 3038037 after Patchset 3 3129219 ?

PS: I heard that Oracle was suppose to come out with PatchSet 4 earlier this year in January. Any word on that ? the patchset number ?

I have solved this problem.
When I run the patch setup.exe again, I should select Destination Name: OraHome92 rather than the Developer Suite's Oracle Home "Ora9iDS".
The patch installation is successfully completed.
I have also installed Designer Repository on a remote Oracle9i Release 1 Database server. Can I applied this patch from another machine and remote logon to the database server and perform the patch installation?
Or I have to install the Patch on the Oracle9i Release 1 Database Server resided in a Windows 2000 Server.

MOS Credentials setup in Grid Control 11g Error

Hi All
I have a 11g Grid Control Environment setup on a W2K8 R1 32 bit with a 11g db. Everything works ok apart from the patching setup.
When I setup the proxy settings and test the patch url it works, but says need to setup MOS
When I do this i get network error cannot connect to oracle support.
In the emoms file it says this
oem 11g cannot establish proxy connection: 407 proxy authentication required
I have managed to set the server to bypass any proxy server and can connect out to the internet and firewall logs to prove this, but if i choose no proxy i get the error of no proxy server setup. But should i need to if its bypassed anway
Also is there a file where i can put my credentials manually on the server, maybe some config/xml file? It must be stored somewhere.

The Firewall should allow connections to:
*.loginadc.oracle.com
support.oracle.com
login.oracle.com
updates.oracle.com
Actually it is best to allow all connections from the OMS-server to the outside world, because I have seen GC using URL's I have never even heard of. But if your company will allow this?
In case of problems you could ask the Firewall manager to check the Firewall logging on traphic coming from the OMS-server that is not allowed to go through the firewall.
Note: Understanding Proxy Settings in Enterprise Manager Grid Control [ID 471842.1] is also good reading.

Moving Patch Channel Strips to Set Level

I have a patch setup I would like to move to a Set level, complete with it's layout, channel strips, plug-ins, and instruments. Is this possible in MainStage 1? How? And, iƒ not, is it possible in MainStage 2?

The simplest way is to do it by channel strip, for each channel strip, position your mouse over the Setting block, right click, choose "Copy Channel Strip Setting", go to your Set (insert a new channel strip if you have to) then right-click over the Setting block again and choose "Paste Channel Strip Setting".

How apply multiple patches on oracle database at once?

Hi,
I setup a new server and I setup the Metalink Patch Setup, to bring the database up to date after 10.2.0.4 patchset.
I see that the cache shows 157 patches available.
Is there a way to schedule an all in one job to apply the pacthes at once? As I can see, the whole process could take a long time.
I could schedule jobs and leave there to work, is this the only option?

I am not sure where the 157 number comes from but the Oracle quarterly CPU patch sets are cumulative so if you apply the most recent you should get most of the patches in a single user action.
I would not attempt to apply any patches not included in the most recent quaterly patch release unless I hit a bug that has a patch for it. That is, do not apply what you do not need. Wait to pick up any additional avaialble patches with the next quarterly patch set since one-off patches sometimes have side effects and the more time that goes by after the one-off patch release the better from a reliability point of view.

Configure OMS for Linux host patching

I try to configure OMS 10.1.2.3.0(?) to patch my Oracle EL 5 x84_64 hosts. I followed the instructions in the document "Administrator’s Guide for Software and Server Provisioning and Patching 10g Release 5 (10.2.0.5.0) E14500-03" chapter 3.5 and chapter 20. I own an CSI
In chapter 3.5.2.2, the installation of the yum-repository is described. It reads:
11. Type the command up2date nox show-channels to verify the list of subscribed channels.
-> this works well, the server is subscribed to x86_64/latest and x86_64/addon
12. Once the deployment procedure completes successfully, goto Setup, select Patching Setup, and then select Manage RPM Repository to verify if the ULN channels are displayed in the Enterprise Manager Console.
13. In the Manage Repository Homepage, check if all the subscribed channels are listed and if all the packages are downloaded.
There is only Setup -> Patching Setup -> Linux Patching Setup -> Manage RPM Repository
The server is shown on the list of configured rpm repositories, but there are no channels!? There is only an empty list...
It is possible to retrieve new packages from UTN, but there is no way to update my other servers.
If I register a custom channel, I may patch my hosts, but cannot receive new packages...
I'm not sure how to continue, maybe s/o my help?

I asked earlier "And what flavour of Linux are you running?". I believe your linux has a name. Is it any of the two mentioned above (Red Hat Linux and SUSE Linux)? If yes, what versions are they? If no, then the message is clear.

3.01 patch not working under Vista 64 SP1 ?

Hi,
Under Vista64 SP1; launching "Audition 3.0.1 Patch Setup.exe" shows a first dialog box for language selection... after clicking "OK" nothing happens.
Launching "instmsiw.exe" brings up a dialog box which displays "Wrong OS or OS version for application"
Launching "components.msi" starts the installation, but stops with a message "The wizard was interupted before Adobe Audition 3.01 Patch could be completely installed"
Any advice ?
