  • RRI Jump Works with SAP GUI 7.20 Patch 3 but not with Patch 4

    Hi,
I have an a RRI  jump to an R/3 transaction working when executed via  7.20 GUI for Windows - Patch 3.  However, the same jump does not work when executing with an updated GUI to patch level 4.  There is no error message, nothing happens.  I tried recreating the RRI with the new GUI patch and it didn't solve the problem.
I saw a couple of OSS Notes taking about enhanced security for patch 4, i.e. 1526048 & 1397000).  Is this related?
Has anyone else had a similar issue?
    Thanks,
    Sheila

    Hi Martin,
where did you get this info? Any official SAP note available? Do you encounter similar problems?
We, too, noticed that uploading and downloading files from directories with German Umlauts, this fails now, too. There may be problems with files, too, however, we did not check this so far. The previous SAP Gui, I guess it was 7.10, didn't have any problems with this.
I start wondering if SAP Germany have ever tested this? Or do they not use Umlauts anyway

    Hello,
this message it's only to advise that the error "Unable to locate BOE platform components. Install or reinstall BOE platform and retry" when you try to open "Data Services Designer" with the following software can be solved uninstalling Patch 01 of BI 4.1 SP03
    Windows 7 SP01
SAP BO BI Platform v4.1 SP03 Patch 01 (client components)
SAP BO Data Services v4.2 SP01 Patch 04 (client components)
    Hope this helps

    Hello Ilias,
yes, we opened it and they told me this:
    Hello Rubén,
Thanks for the confirmation that without the patch the installation
works - this is as we expected it.  Your observations on the
combinations you were trying have been noted.
Once the patch level hass been approved (post-QA etc) then the KNBA
will be adjusted appropriately to reflect any issues and/or bugs that
might be discovered in QA and fixes applied.

  • Deferred patching broken for machines with zones

For a while I've noticed that Ive had trouble patching a couple of machines.
I've managed to determine the significant characteristic identifying them.
All the machines with a non global zone have the problem.
To confirm, I added a test zone to a machine that was fine. And it immediately it developed the problem.
Anyway, the symptom is that no deferred patches will install.
So patches delayed by a "smpatch update" till the reboot fail to install.
The sunucLog displays the following error
    Sep 17 10:30:05 webdb1 123186-03 [notice] Status Install Begin 123186-03

Anyone got any workarounds for this problem.
    Is it a known issue.
Or should I log a support request.

Any progress on this? Its been 2 months. And sun has managed to put out an entire new update to Solaris.
And a 119254-59 has been released. But neither includes a fix for this issue as far as I can tell...
Its now basically impossible to patch machines with zones up to the latest kernel 137137-09 since that has a dependency on 119254-58.
And machines with zones can't be patched if a version higher than 119254-53 is installed....

  • Mplayer patch: make mplayer work with growing files

Mplayer currently doesn't seem to handle the growing files. They are usually used when you stream something from the web (e.g. youtube-dl). Now when mplayer reaches the offset which was the size at the open time it just quits with various errors. Here's a simple way to reproduce. Get/download a movie and do the following (let's name our movie b.mp4):
    $ size=$((2*1024*1024))
    $ head -c $size b.mp4 > a.mp4
Now start mplayer a.mp4. Tweak the size parameter to have around ~10 seconds of movie. Mplayer will quit when it reaches the 10th second. Now do this:
    $ head -c $size b.mp4 > a.mp4
$ [start the movie in the background and wait until it begins to play]
    $ tail -c +$((size+1)) b.mp4 >> a.mp4
Mplayer will still quit at the 10th second even though it could continue playing (VLC continues to play without a hitch).
Mplayer used to continue playing but it was because ffmpeg was buggy and stopped working after the following patch has been introduced: http://patches.libav.org/patch/14105/
I'm not sure how to fix this properly but this patch seems to fix this on my computer. There's a related bug to this and this patch seems to fix that too: http://bugzilla.mplayerhq.hu/show_bug.cgi?id=1821
I've sent this patch upstream, but I got no response, so I thought I post it here in case anybody else wants to try it (or try to send it upstream again):

  • Patch and administer oracle with different user id other than "oracle" user

    Hi Friends,
This is question about oracle on Windows. Can we patch and administer all parts of oracle with differnt user id than one from which we installed?
Example, If we install an oracle from user "oracle" than can we install patches or other admin work including backup and everything with user "a" ,"b"?
Doen't it need to be a same user for pacthing and other critical administration work?
help me understanding this with an example.
    Thanks in advance.

Its always good to patch Oracle with the same user from which you installed the user. Oracle sets certain permissions or modifies the DCOM settings when you install the Oracle from a certain user which would not be same for other user. So It is always recommended to use the same user for patching.

  • Apply Patches on Oracle Database with Logical Standby Database

    Here I am:
I got a primary database with a logical standby database running Oracle 11g. I got two client applications, one is the production site pointing to the primary one, another one is just a backup site pointing to the logical one.Things will only be written into the primary database every mid night and client applications can only query the database but not add, update nor delete. And now, I want to apply the latest patch on both of my databases. I am also the DNS administrator, I can make the name server pointing to the backup site instead of the production one.I want to firstly apply the patch on the logical one, and then the physical one.
I found some reference which explains how to apply patches by adopting "Rolling Upgrade Method". however, I want to avoid doing any "switch over" mentioned in the reference because I can make use of name server. Can I just apply patches as the following way?
    1)Stop SQL apply
2)Apply patches on logical standby database
3)let the name server point to the backup site
4)Apply patches on the primary database
    5)Start SQL apply
6)Let the name server point back to the production site
    Thanks in advance.

  • SAPGUI 7.20 patch level 5 problem with Modification Assistant

I'm using SAPGUI 720 patch level 5 on a Windows 7 sp1 machine. There is a serious issue with modification assistant not working properly.
For some reason it does not focus on the correct code line and automatic comments are not inserted either.
    Anyone else facing this issue?

    Hello Jason,
sounds as if this could be related to the correction from note 1569250 "Focus set to textedit toolbar on roundtrip".
I assume that a textedit control is used in the Modification Assistant - right?
If so the easiest solution for you is to apply hotfix 2 we published  couple of days ago (hotfix 2 is available on SAP SMP).

  • Patches for Solaris 9 with incompatible Packages

I have a Sun Sparc machine with Solaris 9 on it as oracle server. We added two patches (112233-11: SunOS 5.9:Kernel Patch and 111722-04: SunOS 5.9:MathLibrary(libm)patch). When I prepared the server for Oracle installation, I checked patch with command: $/usr/sbin/patchadd -p | grep <patch_number>. Then UNIX told me that these two patches have incompatible packages. 112233 got 12 incompatible packages and 111722 got 3 incompatible patches. My question is: does this incompatible packages affect Solaris 9 operation on the Sparc machine? How serious will it be? Thanks.

The syntax of ldapclient changed in Solaris 9 (at least by 9 12/03). You now specify it like this:
    # ldapclient -v init -a profileName=cn=myProfile,ou=profile,dc=example,dc=comIf you're using Proxy Authentication add the following:
-a proxyDN=cn=proxyagent,ou=profile,dc=example,dc=com -a proxyPassword=ClearTextPWYou should have been able to create a profile (storing it in the DIT) when you ran idsconfig. If you took the default name of "default" (cn=default,ou=profile,dc=example,dc=com) you might not even have to specify the profile name to ldapclient.
To generate a new profile and store it in the DIT use:
$ ldapclient -vgenprofile -a profileName=cn=myProfile,ou=profile,dc=example,dc=com -a defaultSearchBase=dc=example,dc=com ...With your various attributes for your profile as specified in ldapclient(1M).
As for pam, you have to decide which you're going to use: pam_unix or pam_ldap. Note that the Solaris pam_ldap is very different from the PADL pam_ldap used under Linux and elsewhere (this makes it easy to find apparently conflicting advice).

  • Is patching Sol 10 machines with zones safe?

Now that Sun update has been released, "smpatch update" explicitly checks for the presence of non global zones and refused to run.
Now, its fairly trival to reproduce the "smpatch update" functionality from "smpatch download" which still works and a bit of scripting.
Ive done this on a test machine with zones with no obvious ill effects.
However since Sun went to the trouble of disabling "smpatch update", you have to presume there was a good reason.
So is patching machines with zones safe. Or is there some known problem with doing this.

The problem was that the underlying tool patchadd was not zones aware and then changes (I believe for bug: 6200143 ) changed the exit codes that smpatch relies on.
Now in Solaris 10 patchadd/patchrm now returns only an exit code of 1 or 0 when using zones which is insufficient both for smpatch and for the Update Manager.
    So there are two options:
If the system does not have any local zones configured then you can run "patchadd -t" in transitional mode which reverts back to the old pre Solaris 10 rich return codes that smpatch needs.
If there are zones on the system, using smpatch download + patchadd will work, but you cannot get rich status from patchadd:
Running "patchadd -t" on a system with local zones gives:
    # patchadd -t
Transition patching (-t option) is not supported in a zones environment.

  • Patch 7315332 - 10G Jdeveloper with OA Extension ARU for R12.1

    Hi,
I would have a look at the JDeveloper with OA Extension ARU for R12.1 (cause we will upgrade to R12.1), just to see the features and try to open "old" projects created with the patch 6739235 (11i).
Do you know where I can download a trial version?
    Thanks a lot,
    Rosanna.

    Rosanna,
Should be the same place you get the other patches - "My Oracle Support" - the site formerly known as Metalink.
You would have more luck getting appropriate answers on the OA Framework Forum as well.

Of course it has to be added to the PKGBUILD, with md5sum, etc.
    Hope someone finds it useful.

I'll keep an eye on this -- although I don't like the patch as-is, so I will likely implement something similar upstream when libpng14 is a little more wide-spread.
What other patches does ArchLinux have kicking around for FVWM that I seemingly don't know about?  Who's responsible for maintaining these.  I am specifically *not* interested in patches which implement crappy features, but more the ones like this libpng patch, which are integration patches.

I maintain the fvwm packages in the repo. The only patch currently used is similar to the one posted here to build with libpng14.  We also add a .desktop file to the package.

    Hi ,
As per the log you have mentioned, it might be a little vauge to cooment on the error. Could you please navigate to " \usr\sap\<SID>\J<instance>\j2ee\cluster\server0\log" and check for the '+DefaultTrace+' and you could get a better insight to the error.
    Hope this info comes handy.
    Regards
