Hi,
I want to upgrade my crs 10.2.0.1.0 to higher version(10.2.0.4.0) in rhel5_64bit environment,so i want to know the patchset number to download from metalink.
could any one share this patch number for crs and also asm.

  • Patching Strategy for CRS and ASM homes

I'm fairly new to RAC/ASM and haven't performed any patch set upgrades yet. Back in the simple days when I wanted to apply a patch set to a database, say from 10.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.5, I would create a brand new Oracle home ahead of time and apply the patch set to it. I'd name my homes like this:
    /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0.4/db1
    /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0.5/db1
During the maintenance window I would change /etc/oratab to point the database to the new 10.2.0.5 and complete the database upgrade scripts. The advantages of this strategy:
1 - Less risk installing software as nothing uses the new home yet. If something goes wrong in the install, no big deal. Research the problem and try again without being under the stress of a defined maintenance window.
2 - No need to backup old home for back-out purposes.
3 - Less time required for database to be down during actual patch window since Oracle Installer does not need to run.
Now with CRS and ASM, is there a way to pre-stage a new home for those, but not have them "active" to the node until later during the maintenance window?
For ASM, it seems like it would be possible to treat the same way as database and simply update ASM SID in /etc/oratab
    +ASM1:/opt/oracle/product/10.2.0.5/asm1
but I'm not totally confident in that as I'm afraid the CRS home may already have references to the ASM home in the cluster registry.
For CRS, it seems like the home is pretty well hard-wired into the node startup scripts and installing a brand new CRS home will probably disrupt the running CRS home.
    Any thoughts about this?

Starting with 11.2 for Grid Infrastructure only "out-of-place" patchset upgrades are supported.

Any thoughts about this?As of 11gR2 the ASM is part of the Grid Infrastructure, therefore it is running from the same home and not recommended to separate them. (although you can do that)
By the way, what is your upgrade path? It could be easier to answer your questions if we knew that as there has been a quite a few enhancements and changes in the upgrade/patching process from 10g to 11g. (even between 11gR1 and 11gR2)

Installing and Configuring SF Oracle RAC Software
    # cd /cdrom/storage_foundation_for_oracle_rac
    # .installsfrac -configure
Note: Do not run root.sh yet, but return to the installsfrac session from step 15.
19 In the installsfrac session, press Return. The installsfrac utility now verifies
the database software installation, copies the SF Oracle RAC libraries to $ORACLE_HOME, and relinks Oracle on each node in the cluster.

다음은 CRS patchset 적용 후, 문제 해결 위해 Oracle 10g 를 manual 하게 relink하는 과정입니다.
방법1. Relinking Oracle 10g (Using the command line)
    [ 10g R1 ]
For Oracle 10gR1, enter one set of the following commands
    a. For 32bit oracle:
    # cp /opt/VRTSvcs/rac/lib/libskgxn2_32.so
    /opt/ORCLcluster/rac/lib/libskgxn2.so
    $ cp /opt/VRTSvcs/rac/lib/libskgxp10_ver23_32.so
    $ORACLE_HOME/lib32/libskgxp.so
    $ ln -s /usr/lib/libodm.so libodm10.so
    b. For 64bit oracle:
    # cp /opt/VRTSvcs/rac/lib/libskgxn2_64.so
    /opt/ORCLcluster/rac/lib/libskgxn2.so
    $ cp /opt/VRTSvcs/rac/lib/libskgxp10_ver23_64.so
    $ORACLE_HOME/lib32/libskgxp.so
    $ ln -s /usr/lib/amd64/libodm.so libodm10.so
    [ 10g R2 ]
For 10gR2, enter one set of the following commands:
    a. For 32bit oracle:
    # cp /opt/VRTSvcs/rac/lib/libskgxn2_32.so
    /opt/ORCLcluster/rac/lib/libskgxn2.so
    $ cp /opt/VRTSvcs/rac/lib/libskgxp10_ver25_32.so
    $ORACLE_HOME/lib32/libskgxp.so
    b. For 64bit oracle:
    # cp /opt/VRTSvcs/rac/lib/libskgxn2_64.so
    /opt/ORCLcluster/rac/lib/libskgxn2.so
    $ cp /opt/VRTSvcs/rac/lib/libskgxp10_ver25_64.so
    $ORACLE_HOME/lib32/libskgxp.so
    방법2. Relinking Oracle10g (Installer)
위 Article에서 Relinking Oracle 10g after upgrading SF Oracle RAC 부분을 참조하여 해결하는 것도 가능합니다.
여기서 2개의 node name이 galaxy 와 nebula 라고 가정합니다.
    1. Invoke installsfrac once again:
    # cd /opt/VRTS/install
    #./installsfrac -configure
    2. Enter the system names when prompted:
Enter the system names separated by spaces on which to configure
    SFRAC: galaxy nebula
    3. Navigate to the "Install and Relink Oracle" menu.
    a. Select the appropriate Oracle 10g version (3):
    1) Oracle 10gR1
    2) Oracle 10gR2
    b. Select "Relink Oracle" (3) from the menu:
    1) Install Oracle Clusterware (CRS)
    2) Install Oracle RDBMS server
    3) Relink Oracle
    b) [Go to previous menu]
    c. From the menu displayed, enter the required information. For example:
Enter Oracle UNIX user name: (oracle) oracle
Enter Oracle UNIX group name: [b] (oinstall) oinstall
Enter Oracle base directory: [b] /app/oracle
Enter absolute path of CRS Home directory: [b] /app/crshome
Enter absolute path of Database Home directory: [b] /app/oracle/orahome
    Enter Oracle Bits (64/32) [b] (64) 64
    d. Confirm your responses in the verification screen. The installer copies the SF 5.0 Oracle RAC libraries to /opt/ORCLcluster, where it expects libskgxn.

    예방책
Before you run the root.sh script, you need to add the init.cssd.patch.
    a. Open another window on the system where you are running the installer
    b. Log in as superuser
    c. Change to the directory where the patch is to be copied:
    For Oracle 10gR1:
    # cd $CRS_HOME/css/admin
    # cp /opt/VRTSvcs/rac/patch /init.cssd-10gR1.patch .
    For Oracle 10gR2:
    # cd $CRS_HOME/css/admin
    # cp /opt/VRTSvcs/rac/patch /init.cssd-10gR2.patch .
    d. Run the following command to install the patch:
    For Oracle 10gR1:
    # patch < init.cssd-10gR1.patch init.cssd
    For Oracle 10gR2:
    # patch < init.cssd-10gR2.patch init.cssd
    e. Run the root.sh script. For example:
    # cd $CRS_HOME
    # ./root.sh
This starts the CRS daemons on the node where you enter the command.

  • Can I use data guard to create a RAC standby database for a non RAC primary

    Hi,
we need to RAC our production database but the normal methods will mean a long outage. It is possible to create a standby as a single node RAC database and when ready do a graceful failover to the standby database and open it for business. The next step would be to create another RAC node from this on the original server.
servers are already cluster aware, using ASM etc
    Oracle 10.2

Yes, you will be able to setup RAC stnadby for a non-RAC Primary. For primary it just needs a available destination for redo shipping it doesn't matter whether it's RAC enabled or not. And ofcourse you are using 10.2 anyway only one node will be running MRP and that is too in standby mount mode.
However since you have are using You may follow below sequence.
    1. Setup a new standby as RAC enabled.
    2. Perform a switchover.
    3. Shutdown the Old primary (which is standby now).
    4. Install CRS and RDBMS on the old primary and it's new node.
    5. Modify the cluster_database=TRUE and cluster_database_instances=<required number of instances>.
With above modification mount the standby database in standby mode and start MRP.
    6. Introduce the database and instances to the OCR using SRVCTL add command.
    7. Once you your database is synchronized with Primary do a switchover.
    9. Now you can repeat step 3 to 6 on the other site too.   <- if you need your secondary site to be RAC enabled too
    10. Finally both the sites should be RAC enabled.
    Hope this is helpful!!!
    Thanks,

    HI,
I did like below and this solution works fine.
    as root user:
    crsctl stop crs
    rm -f /var/tmp/.oracle/*
    crsctl start crs
Wait a few minutes (2-3 minutes) for crs to start. When crs_stat comes batch without "error connecting to CRSD", start the instance with srvctl (as the oracle user, not as root):
    crsctl check crs
    crs_stat -t
srvctl start instance -d databasename -i instancename
Thanks to rajesh in the below fourm.
Can't start instance by srvctl with error PRKP-1001 and CRS-0215
But i don't why should i remove the files inside in /var/tmp/.oracle directory.
Please share the details if anybody knows the reason.
    Thanks to all.

  • Any idea about the pricing of the hardwares for Oracle 10g RAC?

    Hi,
If I go for 2 nodes RAC using Dell servers and Disk array, any ideas about the prices? (just for the hardwares.)
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Jason

It's all about the shared disk(s).
If you are only ever going to use two (2) nodes a SCSI JBOD solution is cheap. (practical too with ASM as the cluster filesystem / volume manager)
More than 2 nodes, you step up to certified NFS, iSCSI or FC/AL connected storage. More expensive, faster, more flexible.
The computers are the cheapest portion of the cost especially with multiple core multiple cpu 64bit linux based servers being so inexpensive.

  • The best option to create  a shared storage for Oracle 11gR2 RAC in OEL 5?

    Hello,
Could you please tell me the best option to create a shared storage for Oracle 11gR2 RAC in Oracel Enterprise Linux 5? in production environment? And could you help to create shared storage? Because there is no additional step in Oracle installation guide. There are steps for only asm disk creation.
    Thank you.

Here are names of partitions and permissions. Partitions which have 146 GB, 438 GB, 438 GB of capacity are my storage. Two of three disks which are 438 GB were configured as RAID 5 and remaining disk was configured as RAID 0. My storage is Dell MD 3000i and connected to nodes through ethernet.

  • Install CRS and RAC with different users

I' m tring to install CRS and RAC with different users.
It is supported but I don't find documentation.
Have someone experience with this configuration ?
My question are related to permission/own of voting and ocr file.
in this configuration is CRS owner or DB owner that run srvctl commands ?
    Thanks !

Yes it is ... check out the RAC FAQ on metalink, and just as Chris metioned the users will need to have the oinstall group as their primary..
"Is it supported to install CRS and RAC as different users.
Yes, CRS and RAC can be installed as different users. The CRS user and the RAC user must both have "oinstall" as their primary group, and the RAC user should be a member of the OSDBA group.

  • Looking For Patchsets for Oracle 11.2 g for Windows 2003 64 bit

    hi,
I suppose I should not be running Oracle on Windows :) i have heard that more than once.
I'm browsing My Oracle Support (support.oracle.com) searching for the correct patchsets for Oracle 11.2 g database Enterprise on Windows Server 2003 64 bit.
All I seem to find is for 11.1
I'm browsing under the 'Patches and Updates' tab in My Oracle Support. Can anyone point me to the downloads for Windows 64 bit and 11.2 please?
    Thank you.
    John

Do you by chance mean the 11.2.0.1 release? I don't believe any patchsets for 11.2 have been released yet?

  • Compact patches for CRS installation.

    Dear All,
Please suggest me the compact patches need for the below RAC configuration.
    OS-RHES4
    2.6.9-22 EL SMP
    HPDL360 XEON
Plaaning to put the ocr and voting disk on raw devices.
    And file system into ASM.
Please suggest me which compact patches do i need to apply?
    Thanks.
    Shyamakanta.

I'm not sure what you mean by "compact patches". You'll probably want to install the latest OS updates to Linux (not sure which distro you're using) and you'll get those from the OS vendor. If it's Oracle or Red Hat (looks like one or the other), then you'll need a support contract to obtain the updates.
Then check the prereqs in the install guide for specific packages you need to have and the other OS configuration steps (kernel params, user/group creation, etc).

  • Are there any patchsets for version 4.1?

Just to make sure I have the very latest version. I can't find any patchsets for version 4.1 on Metalink. This may be because there aren't any, but it may also mean that I'm not looking for it in the right place.
    The version I have is:
    Application Express 4.1.0.00.32
Edited by: Rene W. on Feb 14, 2012 4:27 AM
    Added current version

    Hello Rene,
The patch set for APEX 4.1 was not released yet, as you can see from Marc answer to the following:
patch  4.1.1.00.21 is available to download?

Looks like it might be soon (i.e. 10.2.0.3). Check this metalink doc: Oracle Warehouse Builder, Releases and Patches, Doc ID: Note:340955.1.
