PATH env. variable value if Oracle is installed

Hi,
When Oracle is installed on the machine,in such case if we type on command prompt "PATH" and enter (on Windows machine) then we see the first value pointing to the ORACLE INSTALLED directory.I want to know, does this value persist till we uninstall Oracle from machine?
What will happen if 2 applications want to share the same path, one application wants to chage the path value which will update ORACLE INSTALLED directory, and other one wants to keep it as it was earlier ?
Waiting for reply.
Thanks,
Rupesh

Agreed ! What I want to confirm is that the first value in PATH env. variable.
Does it remain same always ?
Like, if I type PATH on command line and press ENTER, I can see value of PATH variable as :
D:\ORACLE\BIN;C:\PRO\BIN;D:\ABC\BIN;....; and so on.
First value in above string is always ORACLE_HOME\bin directory. So, does it mean that, if Oracle is installed on machine, then PATH variable always sets it first place to search to ORACLE_HOME/bin directory ? is it so ? please suggest me.
Thanks,
Rupesh

  • How to get field and variable value in oracle

    Hi all,
I'm finding very difficulty to get a field value.. In oracle 11i form there is a field name called total accured and it has value 519.. but i'm not able get this .i search in all tables so iwent to help--> tools-->examine--(diagnostic)-->
i get Block :'XYZ' field: "Balance" and value:'519' and search in table shown in help.
Please can anyone help me to get this field and it's value. it is in HRMS.
    Thank You

It may be a derived / calculated field, which is why you might not be finding it in a table.
For information on the last query run (may give a clue) do help -> examine, then change block to "SYSTEM" and Field to "LAST_QUERY".
Also, Help -> Record History will show you the table or view that the data comes from. May also lead to a clue. And this is what is mentioned in the doc referenced above.

  • Env variable confusion - newbie install

    Hello,
I have completed the installation sequence for db 10g (10.2.0.1) on RHEL 4.3 (x86_64). I am somewhat confused by this installation procedure wrt env. variables such as ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_BASE, etc.
The pre-installation guidelines are clear in saying that .bash_profile (in this case) for user 'oracle' should NOT set these variables prior to installation:
    8. If the ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_HOME, or ORACLE_BASE environment variable is set
in the file, then remove the corresponding lines from the file. (Preinstallation Tasks 2-41)
User 'oracle's .bash_profile does not get updated during installation; subsequent login as 'oracle' shows that the env. variables are not set via other means. Is there a post-installation step I'm missing?
    Thank you again,
    Scott

oraenv uses the ORACLE_SID to set the ORACLE_HOME and PATH - including making sure the ORACLE_HOME/bin is unique in the PATH
But ... unless there is a database instance involved, ORACLE_SID is meaningless. It really does not have meaning until dbca is used to create a database, or the manual counterpart to dbca is invoked and oratab is updated.
I have found there is a Catch-22 related to the oratab/oraenv which seems to have caused oraenv to be undervalued.
However, due to the possibility of several ORACLE_HOMEs and several databases, since Oracle7 I have used the following sequence in my .profile
export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/bin # if not already done
    export ORAENV_ASK=NO
    ORACLE_SID=orcl
    . orenv
    export ORAENV_ASK=
and then I am able to source /usr/local/bin/oraenv on demand to set te SID, HOME and PATH for any database.
It's so useful, I add entries for each ORACLE_HOME into the oratab, regardless of whether it represents a database or not. For example, I will have entries for GridAgent, OMS, and so on.
I can not explain why the oraenv is not better discussed in the documentation. It misses a major 'feature'.

  • Multiple oracle homes on Windows and the "Path" environment variable

    Hi There,
We have a windows 2003 database server that has few databases running oracle 10.2.0.3. We are installing oracle 11.2.0.1 on the box as well, and we were wondering, which binaries should come 1st in the path environment variable? and how does this effect the working oracle environment?
Going to the oracle home selector and swapping the 2 oracle homes around will have the same effect on the windows path variable - which will treat the 1st oracle home to be the default home - are there any general rules reg. multiple oracle homes on a server and the default home?
Should the earlier version of oracle always proceed the newer one (i.e. c:\oracle\product\10.2.0.3\bin;c:\oracle\product\11.2.0.1\bin) or should the newer oracle version comes 1st as newer oracle versions are usually backward compatible?
    Your thoughts are highly appreciated.
    Thanks

    That isn't going to happen.
If you install 11.2 last it will appear in the PATH variable first
If you don't want that you need to Oracle Home Selector utility in the Installer to change it.
Obviously, as usual, all of this is documented.

  • Creating Variable with Replacement Path to get value from ANOTHER Variable

    Hi all,
Is anyone has created the Variable with Replacement Path to get the value from another User Entry Variable, PLEASE ?
First created the User Entry Variable (ZV_X) and it accepts the date range like '01/01/2009 - 01/31/2009'. Next created the Characteristic variable (ZV_Y) of Replacement Path for which source variable will be ZV_X and we should get the 'FROM Date' (01/01/2009) from the selection (ZV_X) into it (ZV_Y).
While creating the Characteristic variable (ZV_Y) of Replacement Path, I didn't find my newly created ZV_X variable in the list of available variables under 'Variable' header in 'Replacement Path' tab and it is causing the error 'Source to replace variable ZV_Y is not defined'. How could I create the Characteristic variable of Replacement Path for my requirement, PLEASE ?
    The following is from help.sap..com:
    Replace with Characteristic Value
Text and formula variables with the processing type Replacement Path can be replaced with a corresponding characteristic value. In the variable editor, on the General tab page, you specify under Reference Characteristic the characteristic that is to be referenced by the replacement. On the Replacement Path tab page, you can choose whether the variable is replaced with the From or the To Value and with the Key or the Name of the characteristic value. You can also specify the Offset Start and Offset Length for the output.
    Replace with Variable
Characteristic value variables, hierarchy variables, text variables, and formula variables with the Replacement Path processing type can take their values from a different variable.
The following prerequisites need to be fulfilled:
    Variable
    ●      The variable must not be input-ready
    ●      The variable must represent a single value
    Source Variable
    ●      The source variable must not be a hierarchy node variable
    ●      The source variable must be input-ready
    ●      The source variable must be available in the query
    ●      The source variable must represent a single value or an interval
In the variable editor, on the Replacement Path tab page, you specify the source variable from which the value is to be determined. The value is either determined from the key, the external attribute of the key, the description, or the attribute value. You can specify an Offset Start and an Offset Length for the output here. The variable is replaced on the variable screen upon each data release.
    Thanks,
    Venkat.

    Hi Eve,
It is possible to connect the 2 queries using a Replacement Path characteristic variable. You would need to create the variable on the char whose values you want to pass from Q1 to Q2. The variable will be of type replacement path and you will need to enter the name of Q1 from which it will get the values. Make sure that you include this char in the query definition of Q1 and Q2. In Q2 you will restrict the characteristic using this variable. DO not use this variable (replacement path) in Q1.
In your query properties check if you have turned on the checkmark for Release for OLE DB for OLAP (3rd tab). If the check mark is there, then remove it.
We are using the scenario in a couple of places, and it works very well.
    Hope this helps...

  • How to get the path of the INST_TOP environment variable value

    Hi,
I have some file processing code in the OAF. I would like to use INST_TOP/temp folder as a temporary location. When I tried to get the env variable from System.getenv(), System.getProperties(), they don't seem to have INST_TOP in the list.
Could anyone please tell me if it could be fetched from some other place ?
    Thanks
    Ponraj

Concurrent processes store the value in fnd_env_context ... if that helps, you might do something like the following (example only for this thread, not tested!):
    select value from FND_ENV_CONTEXT where variable_name = 'INST_TOP' and concurrent_process_id = (select max(concurrent_process_id) from FND_ENV_CONTEXT);

  • Oracle CKM Module not resolving variable values

    Hi,
    I am using ODI 11g.
I created a database datastore with dynamic table and column names using variables.
I use this datastore as the target table in an interface but for some reason when the creation of the Error table is attempted (during CKM) the variables do not get resolved correctly and execution fails. (When I trace the variable values I see that they have the correct values).
    The following script is executed:
    create table DAMAN_6020400_DEV."*E$_#TableName*"
         ODI_ROW_ID           UROWID,a
         ODI_ERR_TYPE          VARCHAR2(1 CHAR) NULL,
         ODI_ERR_MESS          VARCHAR2(250 CHAR) NULL,
         ODI_CHECK_DATE     DATE NULL,
         #column1     VARCHAR2(50) NULL,
         #column2     VARCHAR2(200) NULL,
         #column3     VARCHAR2(200) NULL,
         ODI_ORIGIN          VARCHAR2(100 CHAR) NULL,
         ODI_CONS_NAME     VARCHAR2(128 CHAR) NULL,
         ODI_CONS_TYPE          VARCHAR2(2 CHAR) NULL,
         ODI_PK               VARCHAR2(32 CHAR) PRIMARY KEY,
         ODI_SESS_NO          VARCHAR2(19 CHAR)
If I skip the CMK steps, the following steps are executed successfully and the data are inserted in correctly in the target table.
Can anyone think of a reason why this is happening?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply Bhabani.
My variables are Project scope (isn't that correct?)
From what I see in the previous successful steps when the data is loaded the statements look like:
    create table SCHEMA_NAME.*"I$_#Project_name.TableName"*
On the other hand during the steps that fail the variables are not prefixed with the project name:
    create table SCHEMA_NAME.*"E$_#TableName"*
I did not customize the KM's that produce these steps but for some reason the second step produced by Oracle CKM has this problem

  • How in ColdFusion with in variables get a Oracle stored procedure to return values?

How in ColdFusion with in variables get a Oracle stored procedure to return values?
We have tried several things, we can get  a stored procedure to return a result set if we are not passing in variables but we cannot get them when we are passing in variables.
We know how to do it calling  MS SQL.
    Thanks for any help,

P.S. we have heard this may not be possible with the current Oracle Driver is there a different Oracle driver?

I can only barely understand what you're asking here (not from a technical perspective, but from understanding your written English), but I suspect you're wanting to know how to pass back values other than recordsets from Oracle?
You should be able to pass them back via a type=out proc param, shouldn't you?
If you could reword your post so it's a bit more coherent, and possibly post some code, that might help.

  • Setting env variables through scheduler

    Hi All,
I am trying to run a PERL script which makes database connection using DBI module through scheduler. The script works fine if I run it manually but from scheduler it fails because it can't fine libclnt.sh.10.1 lib file. I have LD_LIBRARY_PATH & LIBPATH set in my .profile and i guess when scheduler runs the external job, it creates a new shell but doesn't inherit the .profile settings (same as cron). I tried setting these env variables in PERL script itself but even then it's not working. I tried my theory by running this script from shell but without running .profile and it fail with exact same error.
I want to know how you guys are handling this situation? How to set or call .profile from scheduler job so that all the env variable get set properly?

Thanks for the reply, I am doing the same. I have create a very simple script where I am setting all the env variables and I can see that those variable are getting set but still, it doesn't work. There is something special when we run .profile, that time along with env variables, something else also get set (which i dont know and trying to find out) which makes PERL to search the oracle library in oracle_home. I can see that by turning libraries debugging on. Here is a small snippet when .profile doesn't get execute but the env variables are set:
