Path stroke... ^_^

why is the stroke path option not working? i am able to select the option but it doesnt work...

It could be that you're not setting the stroke path wide enough to see.  Post a screen shot with your setting in the menu bar showing, so that we can see what all your setting are.

  • Vector path stroke

    I have a path drawn which I stroked. However, this stroke is raster and I really need a vector line to be drawn instead. How can I create a vector path stroke?

    With your Path active, add a Solid Color Fill Layer, and add a Layer Style with Stroke enabled and the Fill set to zero.
    Note that this will only work if you are dealing with closed paths, like an elipse or recangle. If the paths are open, Layer Styles Stroke acts as if they are closed. If your paths are open, you really need Illustrator to keep the strokes vector.

  • Path Stroke not working properly CS6?

    Hello, I am using a work path in Photoshop CS6 with maybe 2-300 unique lines. The issue is that when I attempt to stroke the path, only about 80% of the lines get stroked, and some are incomplete or are a slightly different (thinner) width.
    Here is what I am doing to get this result: I have linked the path to a blank layer via layer>vector mask>current path, selecting the brush tool, and pressing stroke path in the layer toolbar.
    Any ideas? You are appreciated!
    Should all be thick black lines around each housing lot, but this is what I keep getting.
    Thanks

    Should all be thick black lines around each housing lot, but this is what I keep getting.
    Then you should not have applied the Vector Mask to the Layer.

  • How to adjust path stroke weight?

    I'm unable to adjust the weight of a path. Here's a 40 sec video (no audio, 1920x1080) that demonstrates I know how to adjust the stroke weight on a path, followed by a demo of it not working when I try to adjust it:
    http://stephenbuck.org/adobe/il-point-width/point-width.html
    Here's what I do in the video:
    First, on a path that allows the change:
    Select an elipse.
    Increase the stroke weight of the elipse.
    Control-Z to undo.
    Decrease the stroke weight of the elipse.
    The above demonstrates I know how to adjust the path weight (at least I think it does).
    Next, on the path that doesn't allow the stroke width to be reduced:
    Select path.
    Increase stroke weight to demonstrate it increases.
    Control-Z to undo.
    Decrease the stroke weight to .25 to demonstrate it does not reduce in size.
    And that's the problem.
    What do I need to do to decrease the weight of the path I am trying to adjust?
    Thanks,
    Buck

    Hi Jacob.
    Yes, thank you and I've figured out what has happened. The layers panel included a layer titled "Meridians" and a sublayer titled "<Path>". Each item has an effect applied through the appearance panel, and that is what was causing the problem. I had been meatballing only the <Path> item in the layer panel, which is behind the Meridians layer item. Decreasing <Path> was not noticable because the Meridians layer item was the 5 point weight in front of it... I changed each item to contrasting colors, increased the weight of <Path> to 20pt, and then it was apparent that the Meridian layer effect was the item that needed to be resized.
    Somewhere in this process I mistakenly applied the same effect to the Layer and the Path, and that's what caused my little dilemma.
    Thanks to you and everyone else who participated in researching this problem. It's solved.

  • CS6 : How to convert a path stroke in a vector shape ?

    Hello,
    When you use the Photoshop CS6 new function stroke on the path of a vector shape, how can you convert the result in a vector shape ?
    Merging multiple vector shapes doesn't work. The strokes outlines are not vectorized in the new vector shape.
    It's possible to convert in pixel and keep the stroke drawing, but no way to convert in vector.
    Illustrator has a similar function in order to vectorize the stroke.
    Thanks for your help

    Yes, I misunderstood.
    Photoshop has no command to directly create a new vector path from the outline of a stroke.
    You could try making Path from Selection. With the Shape on a white background, click on the pink with the Magic Wand Tool with options as shown below:

  • Stroke path is not working PLEASE HELP?!?!?!

    Hello everyone,
    I am using Photoshop CS6. I am not in quickmask, I am using the essentials pallete I am creating a path not a shape, and I have a new blank layer selected. When I right click on my path, stroke path is available but it just won't do anything. Please help me figure out what I'm doing wrong. Thank you!

  • Maintaining Stroke Weight when changing path to brush stroke

    Is there a way or an option I am missing to convert my regular paths to a path stroked with a brush profile,while maintining the proper stroke width?
    For instance, I have a regular line with a stroke of 5 and then add a brush profile, which then converts the original stroke to whatever the brush was made at.
    Can I change this? I am hoping I am missing something with an option or how I make brushes
    Thanks!

    dasikins,
    When you apply a Brush to a path, the resulting width of the brush will be the basic brush width multiplied by the path Stroke Weight in points.
    Presuming you wish to have a final brush width of 5pt and the basic width is 2.5pt, you will need a path with a Stroke Weght of 2pt because 2*2.5 = 5.
    I wonder whether this is relevant or nonsense.

  • Need to add a cut line around text with a stroke

    This has been driving me nuts for years and I've often found ways to "kind of" accomplish this, but I figured someone here might be able to help.
    Create text, convert to outlines, add a stroke. Ok now I want to add a cut line around that entire thing so it's dye-cut out on vinyl. My cut line is just a stroke with a color defined in my pallet. I can create 2 strokes, but I can't figure out how to get one to go to the edge of the other. I also tried duplicating the image, creating just an outline, but it's impossible to get it exactly outlined by hand.
    If I'm not explaining this right, please let me know.
    So there I have the text, converted to outlines, white fill and gold stroke. I need to be able to dye-cut this. If you add a new stroke, it's on top of the old one. Basically I want to add a stroke, to the stroke, but only the outside.
    Thanks in advance!!

    Thank you Larry. I kind of followed what you said but I think there's some steps missing here?
    I'm glad you showed me how to create additional strokes without creating outlines, I was never clicking above "character", I had to click above it to add a new stroke, if you have the text selected, it's greyed out.
    Ok so I created a new stroke, then selected it, went to FX > Path > Offset Path. I chose 0.02 (closest I could seem to get, but not perfect, ok in some areas, bad in others), miter joins set to 4? Are those the same settings you used? You didn't tell me how much you offset yours. Then I selected the offset path stroke and went object > expand apperance, but it didn't seem to do anything? It just removed the offset path FX option on the stroke? This is where I'm pretty confused. Why even do the step after the offset, couldn't I just stop there and print?
    After adding a stroke and offsetting
    After selecting Object > Expand appearance.
    As you can see, like on the C. There is a gap between the cut line and the stroke at the top, but there's no gap on the left side, but there is on the right, and there is on the bottom as well? If I printed this, I would get white fill, gold stroke, and then another white stroke basically.
    Thank you for your patience, I'm self-taught but over the last 4 years of using it every day I'm still learning new tricks!

  • Ive created a path, but now how do I get it turned off?

    Hi guys,
    One thing that I havent been able to work out is, when I create a path, I use the path, stroke it and now I want to keep the path, but I don't want it to remain on the stage. I want to keep it in the paths channel for easy access, I just don't want to see it on stage.
    Without having to manually save the path/selection seperatley is there anyway I can just simply have it temporarily disappear?
    Any help would be great

    In the Paths Palette, first Save Path (just to be safe), and then click in the empty area below it, to turn it OFF.
    Good luck,

  • Why can't I make a selection with my path selection tool?

    While following a tutorial, I am now unable to make a path selection.  I know how to select a path, have done it before, but now my path selct tool does not select a path.  Did I change settings or something else that I am not aware of?  Any help would be appreciated.

    A changed setting may not be your problem.
    One pertinent question is: Can you SEE the path you are trying to select ? That is, do you see the thin line that Photoshop uses to show you the locus of points that define your path. This is distinct from the stroke that you may have applied to the path and distinct from the fill which you may have put within your path. The point being that if you cannot see the path you cannot select it.  If you cannot see the path go to the paths panel and left click on the path of interest. This will show you the path line and then with your path selection tool active clicking on any part ofthe path line will select the path.
    By the way, depending on path fills and path strokes that may be present it may be difficult to see the path line.

  • WPF: Could we simplify path definitions?

    We have defined two paths for apply to two different styles.
    The only difference between two paths is one path rotates 180 degree of first path.
    So far we have to duplicate Path definition code and two paths difference in bold line section.

    JaneC

    You could apply the RotateTransform on the element instance to which apply the style or on a ContentControl:
    <Path x:Key="pathChrome" x:Shared="false" .... />
    <ContentControl Content="{StaticResource pathChrome}">
    <ContentControl.LayoutTransform>
    <RotateTransform Angle="180"/>
    </ContentControl.LayoutTransform>
    </ContentControl>
    The drawback is of course that you have to this (apply the RotateTransform) every time you want a rotated path.
    A better option may be to create two styles and base the second one on the first one:
    <Style x:Key="pathChrome" TargetType="{x:Type Path}">
    <Setter Property="Height" Value="74.569"/>
    <Setter Property="StrokeThickness" Value="1"/>
    <!-- + all other property values... -->
    <Setter Property="Data" Value="M5.4907628E-15,85.783656 L-1.1796041E-14,15.481527 C-1.1796041E-14,15.481527 0.00046152103,-0.125 15.441696,-0.125 30.82625,-0.125 153.00691,0.12776899 153.00691,0.12776899 169.14967,0.12776899 169.5,15.491538 169.5,15.660051 169.5,27.792962 169.5,67.500033 169.5,85.783656"/>
    <Setter Property="Stroke">
    <Setter.Value>
    <LinearGradientBrush EndPoint="0.5,1" StartPoint="0.5,0">
    <GradientStop Color="White" Offset="1"/>
    <GradientStop Color="#FF8D8D8D"/>
    </LinearGradientBrush>
    </Setter.Value>
    </Setter>
    <Setter Property="Fill">
    <Setter.Value>
    <LinearGradientBrush EndPoint="0.5,1" StartPoint="0.5,0">
    <GradientStop Color="#FF9E9E9E" Offset="0.004"/>
    <GradientStop Color="#FFE2E2E2" Offset="1"/>
    </LinearGradientBrush>
    </Setter.Value>
    </Setter>
    </Style>
    <Style x:Key="path" TargetType="{x:Type Path}" BasedOn="{StaticResource pathChrome}">
    <Setter Property="RenderTransform">
    <Setter.Value>
    <TransformGroup>
    <RotateTransform Angle="180"/>
    </TransformGroup>
    </Setter.Value>
    </Setter>
    </Style>
    Usage:
    <Path Style="{StaticResource pathChrome}"/>
    <Path Style="{StaticResource path}"/>
    Hope that helps.

  • CS5 screws up brush strokes drawn in CS4

    I have a drawing that was created in CS4 and which uses many brush strokes created with an Intuos4 pen. When I open the file in CS5, everything looks OK, but if I try to make ANY edit to the stroke - whether changing color or moving or re-orienting an anchor point, the complete character of the brush stroke is destroyed.
    I might add that often, these strokes had a specified thickness defined with their brush that was later altered with the strokes thickness setting (usually made thinner). But since no such corruption would ever take place in CS4 when making such trivial edits, I can only assume there is a problem with the way CS5 handles this kind of altered brush stroke.
    Here is a screen shot:

    Monika,
    If I change the Options of selected object for one particular stroke in CS4, the same one I showed in the screen shot, here is what happens. The specifications were for it to be 1.7 points. I had manually specified .3 point in the path stroke settings. If I make the specifications .3 point, the stroke loses all its character and is barely visible. I think the expressiveness of the stroke may have to do with the fact that I made this manual tweak.
    Also, I have SEVERAL THOUSAND such strokes in this particular file, and they were based on a variety of brush designs and were all manually overriden in this way (not one at a time though; I just kept drawing with the manual override and it maintained it).
    I cannot imagine how many weeks it would take me to revisit them and tweak them to fit new brush behaviors (if this is not a CS5 bug). I really want to take this and other files into CS5 because the performance of everything else is so much better.
    I hope someone will chime in who knows what's going on between CS4 and CS5 in this regard and has a solution. I don't want to resort to using Expand Appearance or Outline Paths to solve this - I want to maintain their integrity as brush strokes at least until I am completely done drawing...
