Path to windows shared disk

Hi,
what would be a typical path to mount a windows shared drive as a device? I suppose I have to choose SMB/cifs but then? SHould it look lije this:
//SERVERNAME/SHAREDFOLDERNAME or use the IP like this 192.168.5.555/SHAREDFOLDERNAE

Thank-You Jason and Changhai,
i think i've found the problem.
i do not have enough memory for the second node.
i am running OUL 5 2.6.9-42.0.0.0.1.ELsmp with PV
and could see the shared disks in vm.cfg on both nodes. if i shutdown node1 and startup node2 i could see the shared disk.
Thanks for your helps.

  • Windows sharing disk problem

    Hello,
I have LAN network at home in windows 7, I have a sharing disk and when I turn on the iMac I did not find my sharing disk, and only after 5 minutes I can find him. After that the disk works fine. Why It happens?
    Thanks

Sometimes it takes a while before devices on a network become visible. If you can't wait, note the IP address of the device you're looking for, and next time connect with it manually.

  • Mounting Windows shared disk - getting stuck; won't eject?

I'm sharing the C: on my windows 2000 server machine, on the network. Most of the time I can mount and eject the volume just fine.
However, sometimes it gets "stuck". Meaning, I can mount it once, then eject it, but when I try to mount it again, i get the ?-mark over the drive. I go to relaunch Finder, and the volume is still there, but it won't eject. I can browse it still, but every action I try seems to not cause it to eject. I have to reboot to get it to clear off.
Is there a way to force a volume to eject? Am I mounting my drive wrong in the first place? Is there a proper way to eject a volume? Thanks.

  • Shared disk on Airport Extreme appending path to '-1'

    Hey guys,
Recently just got Sick Beard and SabNZBd+ setup to automate some occasional downloads I need to make (everything is completely legal there - don't worry) and I have it interface with my shared VERBATIM hard drive via my Airport Extreme.
Everything has been working well, but it seems occasionally (I think when the hard drive is unmounted, and then remounted) that OS X appends the path of the attached disk so it becomes 'VERBATIM-1', 'VERBATIM-2' ad infinitum, instead of just remaining 'VERBATIM'.
I have my folders all setup in Sick Beard, but it doesn't update dynamically with the unmount/remount scenario, so it remains looking for just 'VERBATIM' and I have to change the path manually, kinda defeating the purpose.
Is there a way to keep the path static?
    N.
Apologies if there isn't enough info, let me know if you need more. The problem seems to reside with Airport Extreme/OS X rather than the third party software, I only added it in for detail.

    Thanks for the reply,
I'm not sure I follow. Was that a workaround or a solution?
I am trying to make sure it remains only mounting as 'VERBATIM' and not with the additional characters so other applications etc can no longer find it.
This is what I see after 'Go to Folder' - '/Volumes/'...
    http://i53.tinypic.com/2enaxhk.png
As you can see, 'VERBATIM-3' is the only one associated with the actual path currently, whereas the others used to be, in descending order.

  • Extreme with shared disk and two users on same mac issue

    Hi,
just got my airport extreme + a 1TB hard drive for disk sharing and everything worked great until my wife came home (not her fault )
My setup:  I have 1 mac which we both share with two user accounts plus I have a Windows 7 machine. I setup the Airport Extreme drive sharing with 'accounts' as I thought/know this will work with Windows (smb I think) which it sure enough did and I could connect to my share from both my Windows machine and my macbook air and was rather pleased how easy it was.
My wife then came home logged on and she could see the drive and even see the root folder in Finder but saw no files whatsoever and instead of the 'sharing icon' (not sure what to call it looks like a hard disk with wifi signals) she gets a circle with a red bar in it in the finder title... so I disconnected the shared disk in finder and reconnected entering the account details again and things worked for her.  I then signed into my account and now I had the same issue... I could see disk but see nothing on it which means I have to disconnect and reconnect etc. etc.
I even setup two seperate accounts now in the AirPort Utility for disk sharing and use one for my account and one for my wifes but the issue remains, by the way no issue on the Windows 7 box.
HELP    the whole reason why I got this is so we can share our pictures and videos etc. on 2 machines and 2 computers with 2 accounts.

Yes, I'd like a solution to this one as well! Did you ever find the answer?

  • Windows Sharing Password.. Lost / Forgotten.. Administrator account..

HI.. I thought i would connect up my old G3 iMac running 10.4 Tiger to my Win7 laptop via ethernet crossover and move everything over i wanted to save by browsing the files and folders.
Connected the iMac and the laptop and i can work from the iMac sending files over to the laptop but i cannot remember ever setting a password as administrator on the iMac for my account for windows sharing.
I have a second account on the iMac for friends or guests to use and i logged in and that is the same as the loggin password but for my account my admin password is not recognised.
    http://www.fort-delce.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/win-share-pass.jpg
Is there a way to reset the password or a workaround to delete the keychain if possible. I've been sat at the keyboard trying every possible password i might have used but i'm sure i never set one.
    Paul.

    Hi BDAqua...
I read up a little on your suggestions for resetting / creating new admin account and decided not to try the New account route. There seemed to be issues with losing accounts and files and ending up with an "as new" mac and that was too big a risk..
All i wanted to do was reset the windows sharing password and there seemed to be NO method of doing this within the sharing preferences window despite being logged in as the Admin for the account. So I moved a few files over to another account on my iMac and started the transfer but this was time consuming.
Having just searched the Apple help docs i found a simple answer.
    *Change my admin password*
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8202.html
+If users can’t connect to the Mac from the Windows computer using the user account you specified, you may need to reset the password for that account in Accounts preferences.+
So with a new admin password on my account the windows sharing password was reset to the new admin password and I'm good to go..
Many thanks for your help and suggestions.. It didn't fix my problem but reading a few of the links has shown me how to make my mac safer for the future. I didn't realise that it was so easy to overide the account password.

  • Windows Sharing causing 50% CPU usage

I have an iMac Core Duo running 10.4.6, and a few weeks ago the Activity Monitor started showing both CPUs running at about 50% all the time. About 40% of the graph is green (User mode) and 10% is red (System mode) on both CPUs. In addition, there seems to be a constant 275 KB/sec of data written to the hard disk.
Mysteriously, the Activity Monitor doesn't show any particular process being responsible for the activity, even when I show All Processes. However, after some trial and error I was able to determine that turning off Windows Sharing would make the activity go away.
I don't need Windows Sharing often, but it is occasionally helpful and I'd like to keep it turned on. Does anyone have suggestions on what I might do to get it working normally again?

Yes, I was getting the same respawning of the nmbd process. I just checked /var/log/samba and see that it is indeed huge: 5 GB It just seems to be repeating the same error over and over:

Doing a google search for the error revealed this discussion on Ars Technica, where folks seem to think this problem is caused by installing Xcode 2.3 on an Intel Mac. That would match my situation. Does it match yours?

Someone there posted a technique for disabling just certain background daemons, rather than disabling Windows Sharing entirely. Personally, I'm more comfortable disabling Windows Sharing than fiddling around at a lower level. I've found that if I disable and then re-enable Windows Sharing, everything is OK until I reboot. That will work fine for me until Apple has a chance to fix Xcode.
I'm going to post a developer bug report about the problem, and suggest you do the same.

  • Cannot connect to USB shared disk

The other day got my new Airport Extreme-n and up unitl now it has worked solidly. The most annoying problem is accessing shared USB disks. I have attached a USB disk to the ABE and it is recognized. Then, enabled disk sharing with a simple disk password for testing purposes. The is as far as the documentation goes however.
I am guessing the Airport Disk Utility is supposed to mount these shared USB disks. The only thing I am seeing is "NO Disk Found"
The disk has been formatted in both HFS and FAT32 and still the same results, nothing. I even accessing the shared disk through a windows share and sometimes I can but it will not let me add or retrieve files.
Ant help would be great. Thank you.

Unfortunately this has become a known issue in the meantime and Apple is supposed to be working on it. Usually this happens when the APExtreme gets disconnected from your computer (e.g. power loss or taking your mobile mac to another location). The following is not really a solution but better then nothing:
    1) Connect your USB HD directly to your computer and wait for recognition and mounting
    2) Disconnect properly
    3) reconnect the USB HD to your APE
    4) it should be recognised
    5) hope for a soon software-update

  • Problems sharing disks using OpenFiler.

    Hi There

I have restarted the Service but i do not see iscsi directory under /dev directory. • How to disable Windows Sharing -- for real

To move files between my Mac and PC I used Windows Sharing on my MacBook Pro. It works like a charm.
To enable I go to System Preferences >> Sharing, check the "Windows Sharing" box, press the "Start" button, and enable Windows Sharing for my OS X user account.
I can then just type my Mac's IP into Windows Explorer on my XP box and voila, full access to my Mac home directory (after typing in my username and password, of course).
When I'm done I disable WS by performing the activation steps in reverse, and OS X happily says "Windows Sharing Off." However, I find that even though it's off I can still access my Mac from XP. In fact, I'm not even prompted for my password again.
How do I really turn off Windows Sharing in 10.4.8? Neither my XP box nor my Mac get restarted often, so if my XP box (the weaker link) was compromised, I don't like knowing that my Mac could be reached so easily with full control.
    Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Strange, but I'd start of by verifying Permissions with Disk Utility, and if that didn't work I'd try Trashing...
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist
    /Users/nnnnLibrary/Preferences/com.apple.internetconnect.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
Reboot and set everything up again.
    And/Or, get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, boot holding down CMD+s, then when the prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.

  • Shared disks for clusterware

    Hi:
I am setting up Oracle Clusterware. I am trying to set it up on two nodes. This i on AIX and trying the latest version 11gR2. I am selecting the first option ( Install and Configure Grid Infrastructure for a Cluster)
I am trying to setup shared disk by mounting a file system of one system on the other using NFS.
    Here are my questions.
I am creating user "oracle" on both the boxes. I am adding all the groups (like dba, oinstall etc.)
    Here are my questions:
The NFS mount I have which is accessible by both the boxes should be used only for OCR (Oracle Cluster Registry) and Voting Disk (CF). I do not have ASM.
    Is it correct?
    Also
The Oracle Base(eg : /u01/app/grid ) and Software Location(eg : /u01/app/11.2.0/grid) can be local to each individual nodes
    Is it correct?
Those are the two questions I have. Also, will this work?
I have tried to put everything on the shared disk (installation files, OCR, CF, base, inventory etc) but looks like the second box (the one from where I have not installed) is having problem. Because it is trying to change ownership of user and group of a few files when I run orainstRoot.sh and root.sh.
    Please let me know
    Thanks

    Hi,
The NFS mount I have which is accessible by both the boxes should be used only for OCR (Oracle Cluster Registry) and Voting Disk (CF). I do not have ASM.
Is it correct?Use documentation of Oracle GI 11.2
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24614/storage.htm#CDEJIDFB
Why not use ASM? Since is more safe and have more performance.
    Also
The Oracle Base(eg : /u01/app/grid ) and Software Location(eg : /u01/app/11.2.0/grid) can be local to each individual nodes
    Is it correct?
Those are the two questions I have. Also, will this work? For grid infrastructure for a cluster installations, the Grid home must not be placed under one of the Oracle base directories, or under Oracle home directories of Oracle Database installation owners, or in the home directory of an installation owner. During installation, ownership of the path to the Grid home is changed to root. This change causes permission errors for other installations.

  • No shared disks visible in the Cluster Configuration Storage dialog

When installing the Oracle 10g clusterware the "Cluster Configuration Storage" dialog shows no shared disks.
    We are using:
    Windows 2003 Server
    HP Eva 4400

    Hello,
all disks in cluster are visible from all nodes (2 of them).
We tested it with unpartioned and partioned disks (primary and extended). No way to make them visible for the OUI.
Automount is enabled in Windows like required from Oracle.
Besides, we are using Standard Edition. Therefore we have to work with ASM.
    Any more information needed.
    Thanx in advance.

  • Help, Multiple Time Capsule shared disks created??!!

This won't make too much sense but envision a Finder window with the left hand side showing all the SHARED disks/computer such as the other computers on my local network and including the Time Capsule. When I first started using the TC, it showed up just fine with its pretty TC icon. That still shows up. But about a month ago, there was a bad storm, TC freaked out. The old icon for the TC is still there along with it's original name - "Time Capsule" (original, I know). But I cannot connect to it. However, a new shared disk appeared named "Time Capsule(2)" which I could connect to normally. Then last week my surge protector freaked out and not that one is a no go but a third was created "Time Capsule(3)" which I can connect to. NOTE: the subsequent shared disks have a "cinema display" type icon and not the cute TC icon.
Ok, here is what I want to know: how can remove the "dead" Time Capsule, make sure the working Time Capsule has the cute icon, and understand why this happened. Much appreciated.
    Alex.

    I would try this:
NOTE: The information (data, files, backups) stored on the Time Capsule will not be erased by this process
    1. In Time Machine preferences turn off backups (if not already off)
    2. Open Disk Utility
    3. Enter Time Machine and then exit (only to mount backup) - in Disk Utility, Time Capsule should show in left hand window
    4. Verify Disk (repair if necessary)
    5. If you need all the settings from Time Capsule, enter Airport Utility>manual setup and copy down the information
    6. Conduct a hard reset (erasing profiles) on the Time Capsule by pressing the reset button for more than 5 seconds immediately at power on (light should blink rapidly amber followed by a reboot)
    based off these instructions:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1300
    7. Restart your computer
    8. Run Airport Utility to reconfigure the Time Capsule
    9. Go to Finder window and connect to Time Capsule
    10. If necessary per step 1: Turn on backups, select Time Capsule as backup disk & conduct backup
