Path tool

hi,
i'm from germany sorry for my bad english... but i will try to explain my problem.
well, i draw a bezir line (path) in inkscape, because its more easy to use and saves a lot of time for me then the beziertool in illustrator.
than i saved it as an .svg file.
but if i open it in illustrator many functions are not availabel to me.
my idea is to let a path look like hand-drawn or painted .... and i want to edit the some path
lines later. ( i want to edit it like a path drawn in illustrator with the bezier tool.)
i attached the svg file to understand my problem.
thank you for helping me
greets Martin

ALWAYS state what version of Illustrator you are using.
Your file opens in CS3. Always look at the Appearance Palette to see what kind of object is selected. It will tell you it's a Group. All you have to do is ungroup it to work with the separate paths.

  • Path tool  CS5 verses CS6 ?

When making a circle or a curved section.  I used to be able to  grab the line segment between the 2 points without the handles rotating and effecting the previous shape of the line. In CS6  the handle rotate and change the shape of previous line. Is there any way to make path tool behave like CS5?

If in photoshop cs6 you select the Path or Direct Selection Tool and check Constrain Path Dragging, does that make a difference?

  • What happened to freeform path tool?

one used to be able (Ps-CS6) to draw multiple lines and then stroke them all at the same time. but, in CC 2014, one can only draw/stroke one line at a time?
    say whaaaaaat? (O.o;)

more tolerable than not being able to use the freeform path tool. (^.^)
btw, i have another open discussion about CC 2014 not playing nicely with the radial menu of my Intuos 5 (pro)...perhaps you could look at that and offer thoughts?
    thanks again!

  • InDesign Type on a Path tool not available in toolbar

My InDesign 6 does not have a Type on a Path tool. The type tool icon in the tool bar does not have a fly-out option where I should be able to find it. I'm pretty sure it was there at one time. Any suggestions on how to restore this?

Thanks for the help. Using the Cleaner Tool and then reinstalling worked.
I must say though. Although I wanted to just clean the Indesign app. I ended up having to clean the entire CS.
I tried using the Enterprise Clean Tool to just select Indesign, but had trouble following the directions on entering code into Terminal.
It would be more user friendly if when you open the Cleaner Tool app it would then ask you what App(s) you want to clean.

  • Type on a path tool

Is there any property to check text typed on a path tool?

Hey Hey Hey I figured it out!!!

  • Fish Eye Lense path tool

I need help with the fish eye path tool. I have followed the tutorials online and from the instructions I am not getting it. Drawing an eclipse ect. Just dosn't work. Anyone know where I can find a video tutorial?

You need two paths; the one you want to distort and the ellipse which
    creates the distortion.
I suggest setting no fill to the ellipse so you can see the effect
easily when it has been applied.
If you are distorting text, it must first be converted to paths. Auto
shapes and the rectangle tool must be ungrouped first before the
    effect can be applied.

  • Reset Default Stroke and Fill on Path Tools

DUH! I've only done this task a million times before, and now I’m flummoxed. About the third weird thing in as many weeks . . .
Here's what is what: a file I've used before with no problems, suddenly will not let me reset the default settings of no fill and 1 pt black stroke on the path tools. I know how to do it - make sure nothing is selected and then reset the default. Easy peasy.
After I reset, it shows the default settings everywhere (tools panel, control panel, swatches panel) then after drawing the path, the object has no fill and no stroke. I've reset many times and finally understand the definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and getting the same result!
I've also tried creating a local defaul with a Cyan fill and a Red stroke, and everything looks good to go, until I draw the rectangle. Then it's no fill and no stroke again.
I'm almost embarrassed asking this question, but now I’d like to know if there is an answer. Is it possible the file is corrupted? If so, is there anything one can do to save the file? I tried doing a Save As and converting it to CS6 but that didn’t work. I’ve rebuilt the Preferences (again).
    Thank you (she says, sheepishly)

    Thanks, Michael.
You got me thinking about the Object Styles.
I went in and found the Basics Graphic Frame was messed up, so I Redefined the Style and now everything is working.
I needed some fresh perspective. Thanks to you and Bhatnagar for responding to my question.

  • Slow, Blinking, Sluggish, Vector Path Tool

I am having problems with very sluggish tool performance in
both Fireworks and Flash drawing tools. I shyed away from
Macromedia applications in the past due to their sluggish, awkward
interface. I don't think any of that has improved.
So someone give me a clue as to sluggish tool peformance. For
instance, when using the Vector Path tool, it feels heavy and
sluggish and very innacurate and takes forever to update a stroke
let alone it blinks on and off as soon as I select the tool.

  • Offset path Tool versus Object menu and Effect menu

After a strugle with the ofset path tool I find the solution...
Offset Path in the effects menu acts totally different thean ofset Path in the Object menu WHY?
    What happened;
Offset path in the effects menu gives you a centerline with offset path which isn't modifiable..
for in stance in my kind of work i want to create a paralell road on one side of the main road.
the offset path in object menu gives me the right result, an offseth path which I can cut and modify.
It should have been easier if the different behavior was in an offset Path tool menu...

Offset Path in the effects menu acts totally different thean ofset Path in the Object menu WHY?
Because the command in the Object menu is a straightforward path-modifying command. You select something, apply the command, and the result is a new path.
Everything in the Effect menu is, in Illustrator parlance, rendered as a "live" effect. That is, the program creates the modified version sort of "behind the scenes." That lets you continue to modify the original path, and the Effects that you have applied automatically re-apply on-the-fly. So instead of Offset Path giving you an new path that you can no longer manipulate as if it is one stroked path, Effect>Path>Offset Path lets you continue to work with the single path without having to start over every time you want to change it.
An Effect can be "nailed down" to "literal" new objects by using an Expand command.
Offset path in the effects menu gives you a centerline with offset path which isn't modifiable..
The offset path is "modifiable" in that you can change the attributes of the Effect any time you want. The offset path is also "modifiable" in that you can re-shape the path to which the effect is applied, and the offset path updates automatically. That's a good thing.
for in stance in my kind of work i want to create a paralell road on one side of the main road.
So when you're done manipulating the orginal path, and you now want to "nail down" the offset path as a separate path that you can modify, select Object>Expand Appearance.
the offset path in object menu gives me the right result, an offseth path which I can cut and modify.
Yes. But it's frankly rather lame. That is, if you now need to bend the whole road in another direction, or alter one of its curves, how are you going to do that for both sides of the road at the same time? With Offset Path applied as a live effect, you can. With Offset Path already Expanded, or applied as the older...uh...dead...command, you can't.
So it's your choice. The interface is needlessly awkward and confused, because when Adobe adds new features it seldom does a good job of integrating them with the existing features. So you end upon with both the older and newer features which essentially do the same thing. That's the nature of Illustrator--it becomes increasingly inelegant, cluttered, and confused over time.
One example to the contrary: CS4 finally did away with the separate Filters menu, which was just the old, "literal" versions of most things in the later "live" Effects menu (all of which can be turned into "literal" versions by an Expand command). It was hideously confusing for newcomers to Illustrator to see the same things listed in two menus, one labeled "Filters" and the other labeled "Effects." On the face of it, what's the difference between a "filter" and an "effect" in most people's minds?
One case-in-point example: The Effects menu has a list of Pathfinder Effects that mirror the names of the command that reside in the Pathfinder Panel. But they do different things; they are meant to be applied to different kinds of objects.
Such is the nature of Illustrator. It's a hodge-podge, grab-bag collection of scattered features which are often redundant and often poorly integrated with each other.
It should have been easier if the different behavior was in an offset Path tool menu...NO! The last thing this program needs is more off-the-cuff, willy-nilly, ad-hoc palettes. It needs a thorough interface overhaul, with a dedicated and careful eye toward concise elegance and organizational efficiency. That would be a very ambitious undertaking because the program has been allowed to become such a rat's nest of disarray.

  • Type on Path tool not typing on the path

Using the Type on a path tool I keep trying to type along the stroke of the shape though it keeps placing text inside the shape? I am using cs5. What am doing wrong?
    Thanks.

    Fred,
... I already had type inside. I also want to add type to the path.
Unless changed the the latest version(s), I am afraid the path can only be applied to one Type type at a time so that you will have to copy the path to appy another Type type (sorry, being the type that I am I had to type it in this way).

  • I need help using the target path tool

    Hi all,
I realise that I need to keep all my code on the main timeline, so now I need some serious help with targeting movieclips and buttons, when I use the target path tool (the little gun sight in the action script panel) it lets me navigate to the thing I want, but when I use it's suggestion it very often doesn't work, and I am left using trial and error to work it out.  Ican get stuff to work, but I really have no idea why or how I am doing it, Sorry to be such a N00B, but I really think if I can work this out I am going to get somwhere.
    Cheers

OK that is basically what I have been doing, but its been a bit hit and miss, but maybe now I see why, your last sentence
of course, all those objects have to exist at the time your code executes.
So if I am referencing something inside a mc and it doesnt exist on the first frame there will be an error?
    exactly.
also what is the       this.  Object() and Object(parent)  ??
Do I need to be using these?
not when using code on the main timeline.  "this" refers to the current scope which for code on the main timeline, is the main timeline.  the following are the same:
    this.mc and mc
    this.var1 and var1
And still I want to know why the target tool gives me a path that doesn't work?
i can't tell you much about the target tool.  i've never used it.  but i tried testing it just now and it seemed to work correctly to target a nested movieclip.  again, you must sure that object exists when your code executes so if you target something on frame 2 (or greater) of a movieclip using code on frame 1 of the main timeline, the reference may be correct but the object won't exist when your code executes.  there are a number of ways to handle that if it's your main problem.

  • PS path/tool cursors not refreshing

    Hi everyone
I'm using PS version 12.1x32 (CS 5.1 Extended) and recently i've been getting some erratic behaviour when creating clipping paths/using other tools.
For some reason, as I'm creating a clipping path, the results of my work aren't showing up unless I either change my view setting or changing my zoom level (which leads me to think it's a refresh problem). Even when I'm done with the clipping path and I move it around, it still doesn't update, only showing the last position (see screen grab below). Has anyone come across this behaviour before and is there a solution? Also, when using other tools, such as rectangular marquee (but not limited to it), my cursor dissappears whenever i'm using the tool. It's a bit annoying to be honest...
    Thanks
(note position of path outline in preview window vs actual position in path panel thumbnail).

It seems that OpenGL being enabled had something to do with it. It's working now.

  • Direct selection path tool deletes entire path

Need to delete part of a path, but when I select the points I want to delete (or a line between two points) with the Direct Selection tool (not Path Selection) and hit "delete" the entire path deletes!
This appears to be a new CS5 default on my copy.
    Any thoughts?

Thanks, layer needed to be selected. Don't recall this being an issue in CS3.
Is this a new "feature" ;-)

  • Smooth path tool (for pen tool).

    Hello, all.
I believe I remember using this tool or function in the past but can't seem to find it now.
In the past I have traced the outline of an image using the pen tool by placing as many points along the countour or outline as possible. Once I closed the path the appearance was not perfectly smooth. I remember using a tool after that to smooth the path that would eliminate any uneven or jagged edges and make the curves really smooth.
Does anyone know how to do this in CS6?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi, DrStrik9.
Perhaps I didn't explain it well enough.
I have tried using bezier curvers and the method you describe but found the process a little tedious and time-consuming.
The method I used before required the placement of as many points along the outline as practically possible with a path smoothing tool to smooth the closed path (it may work with open paths too). My memory tells me I used this technique with the pen tool but it may have been a different drawing too.
Are you aware of a path smoothing method like the one I described?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Vector path tool question

Is there a way to make an irregular shape with multiple
vector path lines and then fill this shape with color? I tried this
with a shape like a box but with curves and straight lines but it
won't fill correctly. I did join the multiple lines together but
the curved lines fill independently. I know there has got to be a
way to do this, but can't figure it out. I did try different things
with combining/altering the path but was unsuccessful. If there is
a way to fill this shape with color as a single object, can effects
be used such as bevel/emboss on this shape? Any help would be
    greatly appreciated.

I suggest you view this tutorial. It will show you the basics
    of the Pen
    Tool.
    http://www.communitymx.com/abstract.cfm?cid=D01EF
In order to join to paths you have to use the Subselect Tool,
    select two
points you want to join then go to Modify > Combine >
    Join.
You can also use the Subselect Tool to drag an end point
    close to the
other end point. As you get close it will snap into place.
The Subselect Tool is the white looking arrow to the right of
    the black
one at the top of the Tools Panel.
