Pathing for Image Links - CS5.5

Hi, we currently have out InDesign file in a folder which the name can change but within that folder we have a subfolder called images under we always have our images so our image links which get populated from XML data always point to file://images/imagename.eps so normally no problem finding links.  What we are looking to do is have other subfolders with different InDesign files at same level as images subfolder but be able to utilize same images.  Is there a way to point to these somehow without knowing the entire path, just being able to go back to the images subfolder which would be be up one level from actual InDesign file.  I know on websites, we are able to do some ../ type of stuff which would handle that but never tried to do in InDesign.  Thanks, Joe

Hi MissJB,
Please try downloading Dreamweaver CS5.5 from the Direct Download Links available at : http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cs5-5-direct-download-links.html
But make sure you follow the important instructions on the page before initiating the download.

  • CS4 Dreamweaver not replacing paths for images/links

    New Windows 7 machine with CS4 Web Premium.  When using Dreamweaver, and, for example, replacing an image or a link in the design window using the properties...  I click on the image, click the browse button, select the new file (I've tried hitting OK and double clicking -both of which should, or at least used to work in CS3).  However, when returning to the main screen, the path to the image or link has not been replaced.
    What is interesting is that IF I click on more than one image - i.e. say I am replacing one.jpg. So, I open the browse button, and select two.jpg, but then click on three.jpg (which is the file I want) and then hit OK (if I double click three.jpg after selecting another image first), it works fine.
    Any ideas how to fix this irritating bug?? Thanks...

    Hallelujah!!  I'm not alone!!  I wonder if Adobe does actually browse these forums.  I can't believe something like this isn't a really easy fix for them.  I can't tell you the amount of times I thought I'd updated a picture and then looked completely incompetant to a client because it didn't take.  Very sloppy on both mine AND Adobe's part.

  • Is there a substitute tool path for "Image Adjustments Variations-" in Photoshop CS6 Standard Addition?

    Is there a substitute tool path for "Image>Adjustments>Variations…" in Photoshop CS6 Standard Addition that brings similar results?  I was used to using Image>Adjustments>Variations… in Photoshop CS4 Standard Standard Addition quite often. I upgraded to Photoshop CS6 Standard Addition to get the 64bit memory architecture compatibility on my Macbook Pro, booted in Mountain Lion.  I see now that Photoshop CS6 Standard Addition has the "Image>Adjustments>Variations…" tool path removed.
    I don't have Photoshop CS6 Extended, which has the all new Image>Adjustments>Variations… tool path.  I only have Photoshop CS6 Standard Addition so, if anyone can share with me a substitute tool set that can give me similar results to using the old "Image>Adjustments>Variations…,"  I would appreciate it.

    Thanks, R_Kelly.
    You helped me to start exploring other tools in the Image>Adjustments Menu.  "Image>Adjustments>Color Balance…" seemed to help me get the results that "Image>Adjustments>Variations…" used to deliver.  "Image>Adjustments>Photo Filter>Warming Filter (85)" also got me to where I wanted to be in desired adjustments.  I used to get the results I wanted in brightness, contrast, mid-tone adjustment, and color balance buy using just Curves, Variations, and Hue/Saturation.  Now I'll use "Color Balance…" and "Photo Filter>Warming Filter (85)" along with Curves, and Hue/Saturation.  I also have learned to use "Levels" some more to get the same effect as Adjustments>Variations…"  I always thought there were more technically precise adjustment tools to get the same effect as "Image>Adjustments>Variations…"  Adobe dropping Variations in Photoshop CS6 Mac version forced me to learn better image adjustment approaches for pre press color correction and image warming.  I feel confident now to make Photoshop CS6 my prime-time work tool and move the Photoshop CS4 launch icon off of my Mac OS app Dock.  Thanks again, R_Kelly.

  • Fixing the path for images in RoboHelp 8

    I am rather new to Robohelp, so please forgive me if this has been addressed in another dicussion...I have been searching and cannot seem to find what I am looking to describe.
    I am working in Robohelp 8, and  creating a new help system by importing topics from a previous help system. The problem I am running into and I cannot see how to fix is that there are a couple of topics that have images where instead of the path for the image directed to a folder called "Images" in the main directory, it dumps the graphic into the project manager window when I import the topic. I tried viewing topics that don't have their images on the main project manager window, and comparing against the one that does, and I cannot see the difference. I have tried renaming the images and placing in the correct folders, and then inserting the images into the topics, but it still tries to look at the main folder and still dumps the image into the project manager.
    Any help you can provide please share.

    I am going to say yes (because it sounds like what I am trying to get at, but not sure).....I have tried deleting the images, and recreating, and then re-inserting into the topic, and they still go to the root of project. As I am going along, I am finding more and more.....so far there are 20 images that are doing this.  However, I also just did what you mentioned and dragged it and put it under the topic. But I am still confused as to why I would need to do this for some topics and for other topics the images don't appear at all (meaning they don't show under topics or root of project), they are just linked through the folder on the main directory. Does this image help more?
    Left of picture above: The folder directory has a folder called Images, and this is where all of the images were stored and are stored for the new project.
    Middle of picture above: The topic Horizontal Command had an image in it "image20.gif", and it was at the root directory and as you suggested I moved to the topic. Also see the topic circled Expand and Collapse Folders topic has the image circled at the left within it.
    What I am trying to understand is why would the graphic from the Horizontal command topic dump into the root of the project, while the image from the Expand and Collapse Folders topic not show on the root project or even within the topic listed. (Which is what I prefer for all topics).

  • New desktop has wrong path for page links in nav bar

    I created a new desktop and have the following problem. The image links to portal
    pages in the horizontal nav bar in the top have wrong path.
    Example.
    In the original portal the home page link in the nav bar has a image associated
    with it in workshop.
    \framework\skin\classic\images\home.gif
    The partial url generated for the image looks liek this:

    I created a new desktop everything works fine except for the images. The href's
    are created for the links but the image path is wrong.
    the url generated is : \mywebapp\appmanager\framework\skin\classic\images\home.gif
    The "appmanager" in the path causes the problem.
    Is this a bug?

    Hi Subbu,
    I used workshop page properties to associate the image to the page.

  • InDesign behavior for image links on virtual drive?

    When working with local InDesign files and local image links, I get warnings about missing links or modified links in case the images have been removed or updated since being placed in InDesign. When working with InDesign through Adobe Drive, the behavior seems to be radically different.
    For instance, I place an image from the virtual Z drive and save the InDesign file on the virtual Z drive.
    At a later time, the asset is removed from the DAM system (or moved so it is now mapped to a different local path).
    When I reconnect through Adobe Drive and open the InDesign file, I will not get a missing link error, instead the link will appear without a missing link icon but also without a path.
    Certain workarounds that we have implemented (e.g. remapping the path on the fly in case the asset has been moved) work when the originally placed image was a local file (i.e. occurs in the XMP with a C: path) but not when the originally placed image was retrieved through Drive (i.e. occurs in the XMP with a Z: path). Of course we would like to obtain consistent InDesign behavior regardless of whether the user connects through Drive or not.
    Has this different behavior for InDesign links been documented? Can I get any additional information about it?
    Thanks in advance.

    In the mean time I have done some more research. Basically the issue I am struggling with can be illustrated with the following simple scenario:
    1. Create a new InDesign file and place an image located at C:\Temp\link.jpg in it. Save the file to the C drive.
    2. Connect to your DAM through Drive which is mapped to the Z drive.
    3. Create a new InDesign file and place an image located at Z:\Temp\link.jpg in it. Save the file to the C drive.
    4. Copy both InDesign files without the links to a clean machine (which has no connection with Drive and no images in the C:\Temp folder).
    5. Open the first InDesign file. You will get a missing link error as expected.
    6. Open the second InDesign file. You do NOT get a missing link error.
    7. Create a new image on the clean machine and save it as "link.jpg" in the same folder as the copied InDesign files.
    8. Open the first InDesign file. You will get a warning about a modified link with the option to update the link.
    9. Open the second InDesign file. You do NOT get a warning about a modified link. You cannot update the link.
    So the problem is in steps 6 and 9.
    Why don't I get a missing link error in step 6?
    What will happen when I try to print the InDesign document at this stage (or try to export to high resolution pdf)?
    At this point the high resolution image link is not available so I assume the preview will be used.
    However the user is not at all aware of this. This could turn out to be a major issue for our adoption of Adobe Drive.
    Thanks in advance for any additional insight you can provide.

  • Relative path for images in RTF templates

    Hi everybody!
    When I insert an image in a RTF template, I put its path into the web dialog, in order to see correctly the picture when I open the report from the xmlp server, in this way: url:{"http://servername/analytics/res/Images/image.bmp"}
    How can I make this path relative, in order to see the images even if the server name changes?
    Thanks so!
    Francesco

    Hi Tim,
    I am using BIP 10.1.3.3.2. I am able to access system variable CURRENT_SERVER URL.
    Steps:
    <?param@begin:CURRENT_SERVER_URL?>
    <xsl:value-of select="$ CURRENT_SERVER_URL"/>
    CURRENT_SERVER_URL is getting printed in BI Publisher. Value displayed is http://xx4697.xxx.co.in:9704/xmlpserver.
    Now we are importing xsl into RTF template. File aaa.xsl is stored at [BIP_Installation_Directory\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\default-web-app]
    We have hardcoded the path for XSL in RTF. The path is <?import: http://xx4697.xxx.co.in:9704/aaa.xsl?>
    As we want to set dynamic path we changed hardcoded xsl path to <?import: {$CURRENT_SERVER_URL}/../aaa.xsl?> but it is not working. Sometimes BIP is taking local path of MyDocuments folder and sometimes Desktop path. If I put that XSL file in MyDocuments folder or Desktop, it is working fine. But ideally it should refer [BIP_Installation_Directory\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\default-web-app] path...
    Thanks,

  • Relative paths for images upset by forwarding requests

    Hello World.
              I am using a web app deployed in Weblogic 5.1 with service pack 8.
              I have hit a problem which puzzles me. When I forward a request from
              one JSP to another (say from A to B) the web server seems to take the
              URLs of the images on the served file (B) relative to the path on the
              calling file (A). Here's a detailed explanation...
              Suppose I have a the web app structured as follow
              /oddApp/launch/A.jsp
              /oddApp/B.jsp
              /oddApp/images/tick.gif
              Page A simply stores its request URI and forwards its request to page B
              <jsp:forward page="/B.jsp" />
              Page B displays its requestURI, contextPath and servletPath. It also
              attempts
              to show three images
              <img src="images/tick.gif">
              <img src="../images/tick.gif">
              <img src="/images/tick.gif">
              When I invoke page B directly, the first image is shown, the others are not.
              When I invoke page A, it forwards to B and the second image is shown, the
              others are not.
              In each case the URI, contextPath and servletPath are correctly displayed
              with regard to page B.
              URI = [oddApp/B.jsp]
              contextPath = [oddApp]
              servletPath = [B.jsp]
              The URI in A.jsp is also correct (i.e. /oddApp/launch/A.jsp).
              The search for the images seems to be relative to the original URI (i.e. not
              the URI used to forward), which strikes me as daft. It means that page B
              must be aware of where it is being called from. It is perfectly plausible
              that
              relative paths which suit when called from one location are incorrect when
              called from another.
              I had thought that including the leadling slash (as shown as the third
              image)
              would cause the search relative to the document root (/oddApp/), but this
              appears not to be the case. The search is done relative to the root of the
              server not the web app.
              Adding jsp mappings in the deployment descriptor of the web app does not
              help (I had thought it a long shot anyway).
              Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
              PHiL

    i face the same problem (WinNT, WLS6.0): my wep app has a contextRoot " root " which makes it react to the URL: http://host:port/root /: it is this folder which will be used as a basis by the Web server But in the jps I use a relative URL for images: / images/toto.gif : it works very well when I deploy my jsp out of a Web-app by setting a document.root to the weblogic web server.On the other hand, once deployed in a Web-app, images are not found because the default path of the browser is http://host:port, without the context root of the Web-app! In other words, my war has images/*.gif in its root but when /images/toto.gif is resolved in a jsp, as the relative URL is not prefixed by my context-root, the image is not search in the war! actually, if I type http://host:port/root/toto.gif, my image appearsany clues? an alias on the web server? a setting in web.xml/application.xml and their weblogic equivalent files?

  • Full path for images automatically?

    Hi -
    We do HTML for emails (i.e. - viewed in an inbox NOT a
    browser, per se) so every document I create needs to have the full
    URL path. i.e. -
    http://www.servername.com/images/picture.gif
    The Site Definition (Advanced Tab) allows me to make my
    images relative to the site root. But since my customers are
    opening my HTML docs in their inboxes, that doesn't work.
    I thought there was a way to make the entire URL appear in
    the code for all images. Right now I do a Find/Replace at the end
    of my process, but I would prefer it to be automated.
    I hope this makes sense, and I hope someone has an answer for
    me.

    Unfortunately, no. I have informed the higher authorities,

  • Defining virtual path for images to be visible without specifiying path(AS)

    Hi,
    I am running a report (Version 10g) which have an image (Read from file = yes) item with source "Function column" that returns an image name. Ex. "11.gif"
    I am recieving an error that the applications server cannot find the image "11.gif"
    Image 11.gif is stored in a directory on the Applications server "D:\photos".
    Where should I add the directory path "D:\photos" so that the reports will view the image?
    Thanks

    No need to define a virtual path similar to what's done in forms 10g. An entry in the registry key 'REPORTS_PATH' is enough!

  • Correct URL path for images on HTML reports

    We are using Reports Server 6.0 and rwcgi60.exe to display HTML reports on the web. A number of our reports have embedded charts in them which get converted into gifs when the HTML report gets generated.
    The problem is that the HTML report has a <base href="http://machinename/cache/xyz.html"> at the top of the report. In our case, the machinename is the name of the web-server. However, when folks go to our website, they actually see our domain name rather than the internal machine name of the web-server. Hence, the images do not show up as the URL associated with the image is not accessible by folks coming from outside the web-server.
    Is there some setting that will help us set the base href associated with generated reports? Or is there some other way to get the reports to show up with images on the web?
    Thanks

    You can't change the base tag - but I'm not sure I understand the problem. If machinename.domain is the full name of the machine running the webserver, and this is what was used when calling the CGI, then this is what the base tag will have. Does your machine have 2 names or something - and only 1 gets resolved to some folks?

  • Batch Retrieve Image links

    Hi,
    I've found the File -> Package -> Report quite helpful for generating a detailed report for image links. However I am dealing with a few hundred files so the act of going into each one and generating a report individually is quite time consuming. I have been able to reduce the overall time by a) customing the hotkey for accessing the Package and b) memorizing the keystrokes required to complete each report however I can't help but think there has to be an easier way.
    My assumption is that there would be a way to script such a simple action so that I could simply hit play and have the file generated, am I correct?
    If not my second assumption is it would be easier to troll through the XML files and parse the links that way?
    Thank-you very much in advance for any and all support in this matter.
    Cheers,
    Kud

    OK, try this out:
    var inFolder = Folder.selectDialog("Choose the folder that contains the InDesign documents.");
    if(inFolder === null){
              exit();
    var outFolder = Folder.selectDialog("Choose the folder to save the reports in.");
    if(outFolder === null){
              exit();
    var files = inFolder.getFiles("*.indd"),
              fileStrings = [],
              doc, i, l, link, j, k, reportFile;
    app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel=UserInteractionLevels.NEVER_INTERACT;
    for(i = 0, l = files.length; i < l; i++) {
              doc = app.open(files[i], false);
              reportFile = File(outFolder + "/" + doc.name.replace(/\.indd$/,"") + ".csv");
              fileStrings = ["\"link\",\"status\",\"complete name\""];
              for(j = 0, k = doc.links.length; j < k; j++) {
                        link = doc.links[j];
                        fileStrings[fileStrings.length] = "\"" + link.name + "\",\"" + link.status.toString() + "\",\"" + link.filePath + "\"";
              doc.close(SaveOptions.NO);
              if(fileStrings.length > 1 && reportFile.open('w')){
                        reportFile.write(fileStrings.join("\r"));
                        reportFile.close();
    app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel=UserInteractionLevels.INTERACT_WITH_ALL;
    So, this will ask you to choose the folder that contains the InDesign documents you want link reports on. It won't descend into subfolders. If your files aren't all in one folder, you can drag aliases/shortcuts into one folder and it should follow them. It will then ask you for a folder to save the report files in. It's set up to make one .csv for each document, and it doesn't produce them for documents that have no links.
    Let me know if the file format I've chosen doesn't work for you, or if you'd rather have all of it in one document, or more fields, or whatever.
    Tested on CS5 on the Mac.

  • ITunes Store image links do not display - previews & purchases do not work

    PLEASE HELP!
    Below are the images of what I am seeing.
    And I promise you I have really made an effort to research and try to resolve this without success. I have even run iTunes on a completely seperate computer and a different login (both OS user login and iTunes store login) and have the exact same issue.
    I have reinstalled with a reboot (several attempts), performed a winsock reset, followed procedures in TS4123 for LSP conflicts, I have cleared my cache, I have checked for Firewall issues, I have restarted my cable modem, I have copied iTunes store links to a browser to check that images are displaying - nothing resolves this problem.
    Email support has only recommended what is already posted in communities forum and on the knowledge base.
    I have seen that in past there have been posts related to this specific issue but were not answered (for what I found). It seems that unless you are having a complete white screen when accessing the iTunes store that there is no solution for a problem like mine??
    Also only "Ping" will display all images for image links.
    Thanks in advance for any help / feedback!
    and
