Pause button for Podcast downloads?

iTunes ***** up virtually all available bandwidth and a great deal of processor time and appaently doesn't like to share these resources with other running processes. Exiting iTunes while it is still downloading results in partial files. Question: Is there any way to 'pause' or 'suspend' iTunes or at the very least, drop its priortity so that the system resources are freed up for use by other processes?

When downloading Podcasts, go to the 'Downloads' page.
This page appears in the Source pane in the 'Store' section (green icon)
Click the 'Pause All' button, located at the lower right or click on the tiny 'pause' buttons of individual Podcasts next to the loading indicator.
When you're ready to resume, click the 'Resume All' button or resume individual Podcasts by clicking on the tiny 'resume' buttons.

Pause button for Captivate 4

I've done a lot of work for a customer, originally I used a shortened playbar with next/back and play/pause. Now with issues in Captivate 4 (The playbar appears below the course instead of on top) I need to import a Pause button as I cant use the skin anymore.
I downloaded the Pause/Play button from Raising Aimee which was excellent (Great site by the way) but if the course is paused and you move on the graphic still shows that it is paused but the button acts like its defaulted back to the other state.
How do people here pause (and resume) their courses effectively ? The pause in the playbar was excellent but I cant seem to recreate it in a standard Captivate course.
I just want to have a button which pauses the course and obviously when you press it again it moves on. If you pause the course and then press the button for the next page the course is unpaused (and the button resets).
I'm hoping its something easy ?!

I thought that Paul's gizmo did change state when you paused. I'm probably wrong about that. You may wish to contact him and see if he has changed it or is willing to modify it.
As for the playback controls and positioning. Please submit this as a bug to the Adobe Captivate team. While I'm sure they won't view it as a bug, it actually is because they decided to change from something you were used to and introduce something that no longer works for you. Thus forcing you to change your workflow in search of something that works.

Get buttons for podcasts disappeared after iTunes update

I updated iTunes to 10.5.3.3 the other day, and now the GET buttons for my subscribed podcasts have disappeared. Has anyone had this problem? If so, how do you fix it?

When this happened to me, a while ago, I downloaded iTunes (again) and ran the Repair option.
So, do not uninstall the current iTunes, but do download iTunes again. Run the installer and at some stage, you should see a Repair option. Use that.

"Get" button for podcasts has disappeared

A few days ago, the "get" button for individual or get all podcasts no longer appears, so I can't manually download podcasts anymore. I have iTunes 10 and an 8 gb iPod Touch. In my iTunes it just lists the new available podcasts, but there's no more buttons and when I right-click, there's no options there to download either. Any ideas?

I have the exact same problem using iTunes 10 and an iPhone 4. I'm pretty sure it's a bug, as most people still have those buttons. I'd really like to get them back. But in the meantime, you can double click on the grayed-out, available podcasts and that should start downloading them. Alternatively you could go to the podcast's iTunes page and download them all manually, but that's even more of a pain. I haven't figured out any way to Get All though.

How to add a toggle play/pause button for a flash video

Can someone help me with this flash video. I am creating a
custom video controllers and I need to have a toggle play and pause
button. How would do I go about that. I tried to use it on a play
button and the video pauses and play, but I need to get the pause
image and play image in there. So, can anyone give me the code for

Pause button for iTunes

Is there a way to reserve the Pause button (on my keyboard) for iTunes?
I don't need slide shows, but I need to start/pause my music often during work.

Yes, it's Shift-S, if you want to change settings before the Slideshow starts, but F8 also starts it, directly.
I'm not at my mac at the moment so can't check exactly, but if you go into Aperture>Commands>Customise you get the commands window. From here you can select a command set (top left) you should be able to select default from here.
I checked Aperture>Commands>Customise but it's still set to Default, I'd never changed anything here.
So still no solution.

Pausing or restarting Podcast downloads?

Is there some way to pause iTunes downloads? Sometimes I need the bandwidth for other tasks and would like to be able to pause or suspend iTunes, without having to close it. Also, if you terminate iTunes during a download, you get a message that the download will have to be restarted the next time the program is run, but I haven't found any way to do that. I have several partial downloads in my Podcast directory and would like to find some way of either continuing (completing) the download, or at least start it again from the beginning.

After I have migrated a 'master' profile into another, the browse button (for a download location) in Options, General doesn't work anymore. How can I fix this?

I've been struggling with this some time (downloading / saving problems) and tried all kinds of variations. But I'll keep it simple for now.
As a test .. I've just created a fresh firefox profile. Checked out if could change the download location, through the Browse button, and indeed that worked. I got an explorer dialog to choose a folder.
Normally I would do the options, manage the search engines, do some layout stuff etc etc in order to get some 'baseline / master' profile I can evolve further into other more extended profiles. So you see this master profile will get copied into another one.
But, having copied that fresh profile (having done nothing yet) into another seems to disable choosing another download folder. The Browse button in Options > General does not work anymore.
There's more. If I browse to, say, C:\ as default download location but then enable 'ask me where to save ..' in the fresh profile and then copy this profile to another one .. if I then want to change the download location (which shows C:) it jumps to Desktop and again the Browse button won't work.
This is driving me mad. Any ideas? Sorry for the long story, hope it helps.

@cor-el: getting rid of not needed parts is what I always do. Besides prefs and localstore, only the search-metadata and permissions / signons are passed along. Oh, forgot to mention the mimetypes.
No, my point is why is FF looking for those folders when there's no mentioning of these to be found in my options? Not even in de about:config ... When I state C:\ as my downloads location it's absurd to check any other folder first, which FF seems to do before giving me an explorer window showing .. C:\ as a starting point. Like my unrestricted laptop does.
@jscher2000: Even if there are pointers to those default folders, FF should not be checking those. When I state C: I mean C: (see my answer above).
No, I'm convinced this is a bug unless someone knows a way to stop that folder checking. And to be honest, the not working Browse button is the least of my problems (I use: ask everytime where). No it's the saving that is the problem. But I guess the underlying problem is the same. Saving / downloading, what's in a name ..
Guys, thanks for your help ! I can't fix a bug so I'm going to let it be. I'll rebuild my master and will keep checking of saving a website becomes a problem somewhere. Mind you, the solutions offered in kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_save_or_download_files didn't work.

Play - Pause button for external .swf?

I'm trying to create buttons so a viewer can pause and then play an externally loaded swf. My project can be accessed at the linke below. This is how I want the project to function
     -Click a room on the building (choose Accounting for this discussion)
     -Click one of the demo options (choose Ending a Period for this discussion)
     - Now that the demo plays, I want the user to be able to play and pause the demo swf.
The demo .swfs were created in Captivate so I don't have access to their timeline. They are loaded into an empty Loader component using the MovieClipLoader Class. Can anyone post some possible solutions to this problem? Thanks!

Play/Pause button for embedded video

I'm working with an embedded video file and have set up some
basic controls. The client wants the play button to be able to go
from Play to Pause and have the button visually do this as well.
Currently I have one Play button and one Stop button. How do I do
this?
Right now I have this for the play button:

Where is error message for podcast download failure

I susbscribe to several podcasts in iTunes 11. All but one are working fine -- with the broken one new podcasts are found but every time I try to download an episode I get an explanation point in a circle. Is there a way to see the cause of the failure?

I found out how to see the message: Immediately after clicking the Download button, a progress icon appears at the top of the window, immediately to the right of the search box. When I click on that icon, a popup window shows the download progress, including the HTTP error code when it fails.

How do I solve for podcast download error -50 on iTunes 8?

I've recently set up my work computer with iTunes, as I now have an iPhone. In trying to download any free NPR podcasts (e.g., Fresh Air), I can subscribe to it but when I try to download, the orange spinning circle shows very briefly, then I get a grey exclamation point. Clicking on the "!" reveals error message: There was a problem downloading "Podcast name". An unknown error occurred (-50). Please check that the URL is correct and that the connection to the network is active and try again.
I'm using a Dell with Windows XP Pro Server Pack 2, with the iTunes 8.0.1. At home, I also have a Dell but with an earlier version of iTunes, and I'm not getting the error.
I have already tried deleting the podcasts from my library (including the cache), and resubscribing. I've tried to manually add the podcasts using the URL (through iTunes).
Any guidance would be very appreciated. I'm feeling lost with out my morning podcasts!

Itunes follow 302 for podcast download - error 8006

i have itunes 11.0.0163 - when i refresh my podcast i get an error 8006
using wireshark, i can see itunes ask for "GET /podcast/podcast.mp3?e_id=1A6F97F3-0924-553D-5DA81BB68493EDD2&ref=p_itune"
and getting back a 302 redirect to "/podcast/podcast.cfm?e_id=1A6F97F3-0924-553D-5DA81BB68493EDD2&ref=p_itune"
tried unsubscribe, resubscribe - still has the same error

upgraded from 11.0.0.163 to 11.0.1.12, still same issue w/ 302 redirect from host=www.scientificamerican.com started around 12/14/2012

After reading your post, it sounds like you are experiencing an error with the Podcasts app. You may want to consider restarting the device first, and then resetting if that does not work. This article provides detailed instructions for Restarting, and Reseting:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
How to restart
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device until the red slider appears. Then drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
How to reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
