Pause key

How do I dsable the Pause function on the Shift key? I have never seen a more useless function on a major key on a keypad before (in over 30 years of PC use).
I would throw out my HP laptop if I could afford to do so. Hitting the Pause area of the formerly-Shift-key-only pad causes my cursor to jump to a previous locale of its choosing (no Fn key involved), so unless I am intently watching my keyboard, the next several characters wind up in the wrong locale. I LOSE A LOT OF TIME ON THIS ONE BRAINLESS "FEATURE."

I grasp that you are having a difficulty with the pause key on the keyboard. I am unsure why it is acting that way.
I suggest you uninstall the keyboard driver and reinstall.

I need to use a "pause" key on windows parallel, or the fn f15 key. I have a mac book pro 13" and only see keys upto f12. Is there a way to do this?

I own a mac book pro 13" and I use parallels for work and desperately need the "pause" key that used to be on my PC. It is the equivalent of the f15 key. My keyboard only goes up to f12 and I have looked in here and on google and can't figure it out. doesn't anyone have ideas?

I have found the solution for myself for the above. I use a specific scripting program which is accessed by Control A. To pause it, you need to use Control B. not sure if this would work for any other application but it resolves my dilemma after hours of trying!

Pause key not working whilst recording a video demo.

The title says it all really. I've set the pause key to various different keys and have then pressed them whilst recording a video demo with narration.
On video playback, it is clear that the video recording was not paused at any point. What is the issue here? Is there a particular solution?
It isn't project specific as I have tried setting up various projects. The key is definitely set up in preferences and I always run Captivate with admin rights.
Is this a bug or am I missing something?

Hello everybody, I dont know why, but Pause key during recording Video demo project not work. I tried all others keys what I see in the Preferences dialog box and all works corectly, only Pause key not. Can somebody help me? Win 7, Captivate 6.

Play/Pause Key Troubles

The play/pause key on my macbook has quit working in the last few days. I use this key a lot and it's inability to function has proven to be frustrating. Though the key won't play or pause iTunes, it is not entirely unresponsive. When the backlight goes out just before the screen goes black, pressing the play/pause button still causes the backlight to come back on. All the other keys are working fine, including the skip forward/backward buttons immediately adjacent to the play/pause key. Any help would be much appreciated

Weird, just realized that it only happens when using QuickSilver to select a song. Still, it didn't used to do this.

Hi, I'm looking for a way to make Aperture not start a slideshow using the play/ pause key on the Apple keyboards.
It's really annoying when you want to play/pause song in iTunes - Aperture stars slideshow.
Is there some solution to disable Aperture media keys?

The only way I can use the play/pause key is when using Ecoute to listen to the iTunes library. And only by pressing altshiftF8...
In Ecoute you can define your own shortcuts which don't interfere with iTunes.
Try:
ctrlcmdspace -> play/pause
ctrlcmdleft -> previous track
ctrlcmdright -> next track

[Solved] Control MPD with Macbook Pro Play/Pause keys

I have mpd installed and working with ncmpcpp as the client.
I have a 17" C2D 9600GT Mac book Po.
I have pommed installed and working.
I'm using openbox, but I sometimes use awesome when I feel like it.
I think that's all you really need to know. This is probably really simple, but I'm not sure how to do it.
I would like the play/pause key to play/pause, skip forward key to skip forward and the skip back to skip back.
This is a little unrelated, but if any of you have a macbook pro you would know about the alternate to the F3 key. In mac It takes all of your active windows and tiles them across the screen so you can select what window. In awesome, to change the tiling mode you press Command(super)+space. Can I make that alternate F3 key mapped to this?

Just in case anyone was wondering, I ended up figuring out what the keys were mapped to and assigned them to control mpc via the rc.xml for openbox.
So basically, copy and paste this into your rc.xml as long as your keys are mapped to XF86 correctly.

Play/Pause key on Mac keyboard now Play/STOPs iTunes?

The Play/Pause key on my Mac keyboard used to Play/Pause the music. Ever since upgrading to iTunes 9.1, however, the key acts as Play/Stop, so if music is playing and I hit the key, it will STOP the music, and when I hit Play again, it won't continue from where it stopped but it will instead choose a different song in the same playlist to play. How can I fix this to revert to the previous functionality?

F8 (play/pause) Key running real time player

I have just brought a new mac wireless keyboard for my mac mini.
I am having problems with one of the shortcut keys F8, to play/pause media. Once pressed itunes playes which is generally the main idea but it also causes realtime to start up and play the last film shown.
Can anyone tell me how to stop this from happening?

I was surprised too when I saw that in my IdeaPad Y530 isn't possible to set other application for "Play/Pause" button than WMP :-(
Like you wrote, "utility.exe" is searching registry for path to WMP and then launch it. There is a "wmplayer.exe" string in "utility.exe" file so it is unchangeable, I think . I can't understand it.
Is possible to patch "utility.exe" but this is Lenovo job - to give customers good working app.
I think changing registry key is now only one fast method.
One question: I see in "utility.exe" string "Right-click the icon to select the program or file that you want assigned to the hotkey". When/where app shows this text ?

Play/pause key plays a sound

greetings
while listening to iTunes, whenever I press the play/pause (F8) key it plays a sound. I it just started doing this and i'm not sure why. how can I turn this off?
Additionally, The sound DOES NOT play when I press the play/pause button with my mouse in iTunes, it only happens when using the keyboard.

nevermind. there was a rogue sound file on my desktop that was played whenever i hit that key

Safari not playing live audio when tapping the play pause key in IO5

Hi. I just upgraded Ipad 2 to IO5 and now when using Safari to play "listen live" audio from various websites the play/pause button only works one out of 15 taps; I have to tap the reload icon to get it to start and stop...any suggestions? Thanks, Steve

Tap Settings > Safari
Then tap Clear History then tap Clear Cookies and Data
Then restart the iPad.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button down until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

How to remap the PrtScr, Scroll Lock and Pause keys on a PC keyboard?

This has been bothering me for a long time, I've bought a Cherry's Standard PC Keyboard G80-3000 (forgive to abandoned Apple's USB keyboard) two months ago. It's all good except one thing: THERE IS NO VOLUME CONTROL FUNCTION KEYS ON THIS KEYBOARD!!
The PreScr key act as F13 and the other two are totally dead! Is there any way I can remap those three to: Increase Volume, Decrease Volume and Mute keys?
Or any software can create the shortcuts for volume up and down?
Is it possible or I've been punished?

There are at least a couple of utilities, namely uControl and DoubleCommand, that do part of what you need (key mapping).

Windows 7, Microsoft Keyboard Media Keys (Play/Pause), and iTunes

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and iTunes 9.0.1.8 with Microsoft Intellipoint 7.0 and a Microsoft Keyboard with media keys.
In previous versions of Windows, iTunes, and Intellipoint, pressing the "play/pause" key on the keyboard would play or pause iTunes -- even when iTunes wasn't the active application.
In my current setup, when iTunes is minimized, then the media keys don't control iTunes.
Is this a bug? Is there something I can do to fix the situation?
I've asked Microsoft for help, and they say it looks to be a compatibility issue with iTunes. So, now I'm asking Apple. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have this same problem, but with Windows XP Pro. It MUST be a iTunes and a Microsoft IntelliType driver issue.
I JUST reinstalled my computer and loaded all new everything and the buttons worked off and on (depending on focus). I don't remember doing anything to make it work last time. The only thing I remember was installing a plug-in so my ATI Remote Wonder worked with iTunes.
I downloaded Chris's dll as suggested. Worked flawlessly. I hope Apple and/or Microsoft fix this in the next release of their software.

Pause on Key pressed

i need a functionality to start and stop the captivate presentation with keystrokes. The pause-key on the keyboard should have the same result as clicking the pause-button in the playbar. I already tried to modify the playbar in flash but i am an absolute beginner in actionscript. The pausebutton has the script:

Is it possible to start _parent.onPBCBtnClick("pause"); with a keystroke?
If not - maybe it is possible to build a widget with this functionality.

Indeed, you cannot use an interactive object on a master slide, you cannot time it for the rest of the project. The only way to have this on each slide is to copy/paste. You are probably aware that you can paste to all slides at once (just select them in the Filmstrip). The issue is that each interactive object needs it proper ID. The advanced action however will be always the same. Standard instead of conditional would also be possible, using Expression rdcmndPaused = 1 - rdcmndPaused and similar for rdcmndResume

So I am using a Logitech G710+ keyboard with my Mac (running 10.9) , and the media keys (Play/Pause, Stop, Next and Previous) work perfectly fine with iTunes, even in background.
Now, when I use Spotify, I usually quit iTunes (to stop conflicts), but only the Play/Pause key seems to work.
It does work in the background, which is good, but crucially the Next / Previous keys don't work at all.
Any ideas?

So I have the exact same issue as everyone else here. I have a Logitech K750 wireless keyboard running Yosemite on my MBP. I don't necissarily think this issue resides with Spotify, but instead with Logitech. If I use the media keys on my MBP I am capable of using Next/Previous even when Spotify is in the background. On the wireless keyboard only Play/Pause and the Volume buttons work. I think the issue is with the key mapping with the Logitech. Then again, I don't know how the code is written. Maybe Spotify missed an alternative key map for the media buttons. I didn't write the code.... The logitech forum is a ghost town for this issue though. Only post I found was 5 years old. EDIT: With further reasearch I DO believe the problem lies with Spotify. A tech for Logitech explained to me that Spotify wrote some "interesting" code for the keymap functionality for its Mac client. A quick Google search shows that it is not only Logitechs experiencing this issue. It would be great if we could get someone to look into this. It isn't critical, but it sure would be nice to get fixed.
