Pause then Resume Play....Scrubbing...

Ok, this is a new one to me. If I am listening to a song and pause it and go away for a while, when I resume play it doesn't start where I paused it. It rewinds. But, here is the kicker. The time displays the same, like it should, so when the time runs out on the song, it continues to play. When I scrub through a song it gets really freaky. I can't explain it any other way than that.
Anyone having anything similar????

• Ipod randomly pauses then resumes (seems to skip like a cd player)

I brought my 30gig ipod about 2 months ago on only recently has this problem been happening. It seems to pause for about half a second then resumes automatically, simalar to what happened to the old cd player walkmans when you shook them. My friend recently had a similar problem with his ipod mini and they said it was his hard drive but his ipod would stop playing for about 20 secs and then resume or just stop playing completely. Please help, Josh

See if the following helps
For Mac computer
1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”

• All is set up ok but when I view a home movie the apple tv reverts to the menu at random times, sometimes every 30 secs or so, sometimes plays for mins before cutting out and then i have to enter menu, go to movies and select the movie then resume play bu

Whwn viewing home movies the movie cuts out back to the general menu at random, forcing me to enter menu again, reselect the movie and hit resume button.
this happens everytime I try to play a movie, maybe after 1 min of play then again after 3 mins, next time it might play for 6 mins then cut out and so on. The macbook pro is not reverting to sleep mode or closing down and the wifi signal is strong. So is the apple tv an expensive load of junk or what?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

• Videos and music pausing then continue playing

Hi, I really need some kind peoples feedback on this - I've tried eveything I can think of.
My 80gb 5.5 gen iPod video is playing up.
When I play a video movie I get a slight pause, for about 2 seconds in the flow of the movie.
This happens around every 10 mins of playing. My movies are ripped via handbrake.
Also the pause appears with music tracks as well, around the 7th track played in an album. It happens with all albums - they all paly fine on my shuffle and iPod touch.
I have tried formatting he iPod via disk utility and restored the iPod using iTunes.
The iPod is using firmware 1.3 I am now wonderng whether I should downgrade to a lower firmware or even trying a firmware from a 3rd party company.
I have also cleared all artwork off the song tracks and converted them all to 123 aac as well.
Please let me know if any of you guys have experienced this problem.
Thanks

Prior to vacation, i had about half the iPad (64GB) loaded with videos and music. I left all of that on the iPad, and added even more. I synced it, checked in itunes that the iPad drop down lists were showing my vids and music, and then went on vacation. I never checked that the videos actually played after the sync. I never thought that would be necessary after seeing them in iTunes. Especially since the majority of them were ones that were remaining on my ipad and have always worked fine.
So the problem is that my iPad memory is full, the files definitely synced over, but the ipad is not recognizing them as videos and music. It lists zero ids, zero songs. Oddly, my photos, which i didn't touch, are working perfectly.
I'm confident that i could fix this by endlessly syncing when i get back home, however that 12 hour flight home would be a lot more entertaining if i could get this working without my computer

• Quicktime videos freeze then resume playback

I am experiencing a problem when Quicktime plays videos. The videos freeze for a few seconds, then resuming play.
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 with Windows XP.
I began experiencing this problem 3 days ago when I updated my software to iTunes 9.0, until then everything worked fine.
Since then, I have repaied iTunes, Quicktime, uninstalled and reinstalled all the software; nothing has helped to improve this problem.
If anyone can help me any, it would be greatly appreciated.

While in Quicktime, click "Edit" > Preferences > Quicktime Preferences. Then click the "Streaming" tab and make an adjustment at the bottom in the "Instant-On" area so there's more of a delay.

• IPod no longer resumes play where last paused

After the 3.0 update, I've noticed that after pausing the iPod and then using the phone for other things, it will no longer resume play where I last paused. For example, I shuffle almost 100% of the time I play music. If I pause the music to surf the internet or otherwise do other things on the iPhone, when I go back to play music, it is no longer paused on the last song it was playing ("Now Playing" should be displayed on upper right corner), but now starts a new shuffle; i.e., no previous songs played.
Has anybody else noticed this?

Hi!
I can confirm, that the playback problem, where iPod starts at the beginning of the first song on your iPhone, still exists with OS3.1. I have written my second feedback to Apple regarding this issue, one for 3.0 and one for 3.1.
I do have playlists in use, but I dont believe, that they have something to do with this issue.
If you also have the same problem, please leave a feedbac on http://www.apple.com/feedback.
Thanks, bye
Michael

• Why does my VOD movie, after pause timeout, never Resume Play but always starts over?

Two years, if I have to go to the bathroom and pause, I've been experiencing the issue that my VOD movie NEVER! resumes. It always starts over.
Any fixes Verizon?
Can't pause your 16 bucks a month HD DVR for VOD or Resume Play after pause timeout. How is there even a pause timeout?
I know this is a flame but I'm tired of the **bleep** and if anyone has a fix I'd love to hear it.

Oops, Brian - I accidentally clicked the "this solved my question" button. No offense, but it didn't - not yet.
By "reset," mean it played for literally a few seconds, then dumped out of the movie and went back to the selection screen (in Netflix, this would be the screen with the movie description and Play button; in just the AppleTV interface, that would refer to the movie list with the chosen film highlighted, ready to hit SELECT to start it).
Sometimes, if I selected again (or hit Play), the movie would return where it left off (or within a few seconds to a few minutes of the scene). But other times, it would just jump back to the start of the movie, regardless of where I'd been when it dumped back to the menu.
Tonight, I tried something else, just to see if my wireless router is to blame: I patched a CAT-5 cable directly to the AppleTV from the router (same one that's doing the WiFi routing; it has four ethernet ports on the back). Netflix played flawlessly. HD all the way, no downressing to SD (or worse), no audio dropouts, no returns-to-menu. Since I don't have a long enough CAT-5 to reach the iMac, I have no easy way to test whether that would solve the iTunes Home Sharing issues I've been having. But just getting clean playback from Netflix tells me the wireless router is suspect here.
The hunt for answers continues.

Hi Goofy Goat,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you have done some great troubleshooting for your iPod nano that is not responding. In this situation, if resetting it did not resolve, I would suggest restoring the iPod back to its factory settings and then sync your content back onto it from iTunes. Please use the following article as a resource for restoring.

• Can I download a file in different sessions or should it be in a single session? In other words can I pause the download of a file, shutdown/restart my system and then resume download from where I left off? Or will it start from the very beginning?

Can I download a file in different sessions or should it be in a single session? In other words can I pause the download of a file, shutdown/restart my system and then resume download from where I left off? Or will it start from the very beginning?

If a server supports resuming downloads then the download should continue where it left off.
You can test that by simple starting a large download and wait a minute or so before pausing it.
Then you can close and restart Firefox and see if resuming works.
You can set the pref browser.download.manager.quitBehavior to 2 on the about:config page.
That will make Firefox ask for confirmation if you want to cancel the download if you close Firefox.

• New Problem - video loads, plays a bit, pauses, then plays without sound.

On the first time that I used the TV-Out feature of the iPod, videos that normally were playing properly started to lag. The video would play about 15 seconds, then stop playing for a few seconds, then start again, but without sound. I just thought it might be because of the TV-Out feature, but after that incident, a large amount of my videos have been doing this, without using the TV-Out.
My first use of the tv-out feature was around the time that I first updated the iPod firmware. I now realise that I have no need of the updated firmware, so would be willing to restore the iPod to factory settings, but would rather get some opinions first.
Although these videos had played normally before, now they (and most all videos I have added since), do this when playing:
Load up normally, play normally for about 15 seconds, pause and do nothing, then continue playing but without sound. If I use the clickwheel to skip ahead after it pauses, it will play normally for another 5 seconds or so and then pause and cut the sound again.
I had not experienced anything like this before that first time I used the TV-out capability. Nor had I experienced it before updating the iPod. Now, many, but not all of my videos are doing this.
Oh, it seems only the videos longer than 10 minutes are doing this... all the others work... some more testing would be needed to be certain. Video podcasts are playing fine. So... anyone else had this happen?

This problem seems to occur for the 60GB models that are using the new firmware 1.1. It has been posted all over google and the only fix to this problem is to downgrade to 1.0. The problem is reported as not to affect the 30GB models but there are a few videos on my ipod (30GB) that suffer from this as well. I haven't downgraded by 30GB one to check if it fixes it, but I can assure you that it will fix the problem for the 60GB one (I used to have that one before).

• AirTunes pauses then plays (in the middle of a song)

I just got a brand new Airport Express to set up a wireless network at home. All the wireless is working seamlessly. But when I try to play a song from iTunes to the router to play on my home stereo, the song plays but every now and then it pauses, then after about 5 seconds it automatically starts playing from the same place again. I have an Intel iMac with the latest iTunes. I have noticed that the song also pauses in iTunes. This doesn't happen while playing through the computer and not the stereo. I've tried restarting my computer, the Airport Express, and reconfiguring the Airport Express. My connection to the base station is very good, the menu bar status icon always shows either 3/4 or 4/4 connection strength. What is the problem?
Thanks in advance,
mac_swede

I've been pretty lucky with my AE. Been using it non-stop and have had it for over a year and now. I used to experience the same problems initially. So I know how disappointing/frustrating this can be. It took me weeks of testing several settings until I found 2 particular settings that worked flawlessly. One setting where the AE is linked with a linksys g-range expander and another setting without the range expander. The AE has been pretty durable too bec the range expander has been replaced TWICE now.
Mine's connected to a Linksys router (in my living room 20+ ft away) and plays apple lossless/AIFF/AAC/MP3 music to my soundsystem for hours on end until i shutdown my itunes. i am also able to surf/download while playing airtunes. The music is no longer saved in my library but originates from my ipod connected via USB. Even when other people are surfing and sharing the internet connection there are no skips/hiccups.
I don't know if my settings will work but i'd try it anyway. these are my settings on a LINKSYS ROUTER w/o the G-RANGE EXPLANDER (BTW my WEP SECURITY is disabled).
Try these settings :
Run the airport admin utility application, locate the AE you wish to configure, click the NAME of the AE and then CONFIGURE.
AIRPORT TAB
wireless mode : create a wireless network
channel : 11
wireless security : not enabled
mode : 802.11g only
multicast rate : 11 (in wireless options)
tick -> ENABLE INTERFERENCE ROBUSTNESS
tansmitter power : 100%
INTERNET TAB
connect using : airport
mac address : [AE will enter these]
configure : manually
IP address : 192.168.1.103 -> [the last 3 digits can be anywhere from 100-150 I THINK.]
subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
router address : 192.168.1.1 -> [this is default IP for linksys]
DNS servers : go to router settings and click STATUS.there you will see "DNS1" and "DNS2". I used those IP numbers.
WDS TAB
tick -> enable this base station as a WDS and select "remote base station"
tick -> allow wireless clients on this base station
main airport ID : click SELECT and search for your wireless network
MUSIC TAB
tick -> enable airtunes on this base station
All other settings on the other TABS (NETWORK,PORT MAPPING, ACCESS CONTROL) were pretty much set to its default mode.
Good luck guys and let me know how it goes. Best to email me.
Cheers,

• Music doesn't start when selected from playlist have to push pause then start. Always playing one track behind what is on screen

Music doesn't start when selected from playlist have to push pause then start. Always playing one track behind what is on screen as my I-pad worksorks fine

Same problem here, since upgrading to IOS-5. Whenever I try to shuffle or play a genius mix (or even simply play an album) the iPod will skip the first one or two songs, play one song and then 'crash'. I say 'crash' because it selects the next song and then nothing happens - the player isn't paused, and it appears to think it's playing, but the time bar doesn't change and no sounds come out. Occasionally I've noticed the album artwork is wrong too.
Rebooting does NOT work - I've tried it a number of times.
Is this just an iPod problem?? If so, I would be surprised if Apple do anything quickly about it - they're more worried about iPhone problems I expect, and we (iPod users) are just the poor relations... C'mon Apple - SORT IT OUT!!!!

Weird... this does not happen to mine..... maybe you should try reloading the firmware.... if not might be a player with your player and you should call support.

• ITunes very slow to resume playing a tune

While using iTunes latest version to the date (8.1.1), it takes about 6 (six) seconds to resume/start to play a tune. This happens even if while I'm playing the tune, I hit pause, and then hit play again (thus freezing for 6 seconds). My iTunes library has 20G.

Same problem here. I spend a week thinking iTunes was locked up, killing it, and insanely doing it over and over again.
Is there some process we can collectively get Apple to look at this? I have spoken to support 3 times, and visited the Geniuses at the store, and while they all seem to want to help, they continue to give me the same bad advice, over and over... reinstall itunes, restore your phone.
I suspect this problem will just magically go away in the next itunes release, but I'd really like someone just once to tell me, hey there was a problem, we know what it was and we fixed it. Here's the details...

• How can I stop (not pause) music "now playing?"

After playing a song on iPhone 5 IOS7, I can only "pause" it and not "stop" it. This is a problem because when I connect to my car's bluetooth audio system, it says bluetooth audio is paused, and Maps won't speak directions through the car audio system.
Now if I resume playing the song, Maps will lower the song volume and speak directions through the car audio system, but I don't want to have to listen to music just so Maps will speak directions through the bluetooth systems.
I consider this a serious bug. And if there is a way to stop the music then its not intuitive. I've tried everything including reboot, hard reset, double clicking home button and swiping away the music app all to no avail.

The pause should not "run out". Something may be amiss if this is happening.
If you want to totally stop the music you can terminate the iPod App by using the "recently used" Apps tray which is accessed by double-clicking the home button. Press and hold an App icon for a couple of seconds and a "minus sign" will appear at the upper left corner of the icons. Touching the minus sign will remove that App.
