Paused Video Kills Alarm

I originally posted this with a different subject line. I'm now almost convinced that this is an iPod software issue related to paused video and the alarm clock feature. If anyone can reproduce this, please post here. I have an open case issue with Apple on this, and I'd like some corroborative data.
Here are the steps that cause the problem on my Windows-formatted iPod...
1) Set an alarm to play a play list a few minutes from the present time.
2) Go to videos and start playing one, but stop the playing by pressing the 'menu' button. The video is now paused.
3) Now press and hold the 'play/pause' button to turn the iPod off.
4) Watch and wait for the iPod alarm to trigger. For me, the iPod does come on, but it's doesn't play any songs. It's in the state it was when it was turned off - i.e. at the list of videos.
5) Now move your thumb around the click wheel as if to scroll the list of videos. For me, the menu items - i.e. the names of the videos - disappear. What I see is just the blue selection highlight that moves up and down on an otherwise blank screen.
You can also pause the video (step 2) by pressing the 'play/pause' button instead of the 'menu' button. That will also prevent the play list from playing, but since the iPod is not displaying a list when it wakes up, there are no disappearing menu items. It does, however, behave a bit flaky.
Does anyone else see this?

You have concidered the fact however that it may just be that if you want music to play you have to have paused a song or be in the playlist which you would like to wakeup to?
The fact that the play list doesn't play is just one problem. As mention in my original post, the other is that the list items disappear after the iPod wakes up. Thus, I suspect a bug (or that I have a faulty unit). Since everything else about the iPod seems to work, a bug is more likely.

Ipod Touch 3G no longer plays clock alarm sounds and just pauses and shows alarm messages.

All of a sudden, I am no longer able to hear clock alarm sounds like I used to. Until recently, I was able to just play a music file, set the clock alarm with any sound from the selection while being able to preview the sound before I saved it, and then have it play at the time I set the alarm. Now, whatever music I'm playing just pauses while the alarm goes off and the alarm messages are visble on screen. I went to settings--->general-->sounds and everything is on. What happened here?

Yes, I did. All I needed to do was raise the volume from zero to above using the *actual buttons on the side* of the device instead of just the touch screen volume control. If you try to adjust the volume using *only* the touchscreen volume control, the sound of your music and videos will be affected directly as you desire, BUT if the volume control from the *actual buttons on the side* is completely down, the alarm clock will not sound.
I hope this helps. It may not make sense right off the bat but do give it a try.

Bluetooth headphones disconnecting after pausing video content on Yosemite.

(short) My Beats Studio Wireless headphones will disconnect after pausing video content.
(long) My headphones will connect without issue. However, after watching video content (either on Safari or QuickTime), the headphones will disconnect from bluetooth. To re-connect, I must turn the headphones off then back on. I have read the bluetooth faqs and there are no solutions addresses this issue. I have had moderate results by removing com.apple.bluetooth.plist and re-pairing my devices, yet, the problem returns after watching video in Safari. This problem only persists on OS X. I have tested the headphones with Windows and iOS and they work as intended with no dropouts. Any ideas?

Thank you for the response. Because this is not happening when your computer goes to sleep, the first troubleshooting steps I would recommend would be to reset your computer’s PRAM and SMC. Please follow the instructions located in the attached two articles below to complete these steps, and again, please let me know if the issue continues.

Pausing video on Video Chat

Is there any way to pause the video for a video chat on a MacBook like closing the shutter did on the original iSight?

Try checking the html ebed code for your flash flv and look
in the flash vars line and make sure it reads something like
autoPlay=false. Check the entire code and change all of the

Firefox hangs for a few seconds when trying to pause videos or skip ads on Youtube.

Hello all!
My problem is that YouTube sort of hangs for a few seconds when I try to pause a video or skip ahead or skip ads. The video freezes while the audio keeps playing until, after say 5 seconds, youtube finally does what I tell it to do.
This doesn't happen if the video is embedded on a different website, nor does it happen on Vimeo, Dailymotion etc. I can play YouTube videos perfectly while using Chrome, IE and a Windows 8 Youtube app I have.
After the initial freeze all commands start working very well, at least until I open a new video.
I noticed that a lot of people are having trouble with youtube while using firefox and I've tried a few things:
- uninstalling and reinstalling flash and java
- starting Firefox in safe mode
- using different antivirus software
- reinstalling Firefox
I read that this might be a problem caused by the whole Google being all buddy-buddy with Adobe thing, but I'm skeptical.
So, is there any way to get YouTube to work properly?

Sound goes out of sync after pausing video

Hi everyone,
Got a 1 month old Apple TV which is working just great with videos bought off the store... However I've run into a really annoying problem when watching videos that I've encoded myself. They will all play just fine, from beginning to end - unless I pause them. When the videos are un-paused the sound is badly out of sync, and no amount of pausing/unpausing stopping/starting will get it back in sync again. Best I can do is restart from the beginning and fast forward to the same spot and this usually results in a better sync - but not perfect. This happens with both SD and HD encoded video. They are playing off the internal drive having been synced over from my itunes library.
My Apple TV is on 3.0.1 firmware and I'm running iTunes on a Windows 7 laptop. I've been using "Any Video Converter Pro" (http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video/)to re-encode my videos as I don't know much about the subject and it has an AppleTV option which makes it really easy...
Here's the settings used for a typical video file: 1280x720 resolution with a 3500kbs bit-rate at 25fps, audio bit-rate of 128kbs with a 44100 sample rate. 2 channels.
Would be grateful for any ideas on what's going wrong here as this is really spoiling my enjoyment of the apple tv.

Sounds like the encoder software causing issues.
When I encode on the Mac from my Camcorder to itunes/ATV I use HandBrake with good results - there is linux and Windoze versions versions available.
It has a preset for ATV as the destination which saves the hassle of tweaking the settings to start with....
It's been around sometime and was fantastic help when I went from Windoze to Mac a few years ago, and I wanted to re-encode all those files I had still in raw DV format from the camera.

Video as alarm tone

Can I use a video clip as alarm tone in iPhone 5 ?

Yes, check the App Store.
Or DIY here using iTunes which is not hard to do:
1. Select a title (.mp3 or .m4a) in your iTunes Library
2. Do File > Get Info on selected title (Windows do Edit > Get Info)
3. In the dialog choose Options tab
4. Set Start Time and End Time (no more than 35 secs otherwise won't work)
5. Close dialog.
6. Now control click the title (right click) and choose Create AAC Version
7. When it is done, drag the newly create title to the desktop.
8. Delete the newly create title in iTunes.
9. Rename the title on your desktop from ringtone.m4a to ringtone.m4r
10. Drag and drop it into iTunes
Now you have a ringtone.
Make sure it is selected in iTunes for syncing with your new iPhone.

Video Calling / Alarm

Not that i get many but when I do receive a video call it knocks out my alarm clock settings. Anyone any idea on why it's doing this and is it fixable?

Did you also try to do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears)?
Well, if you did and the problem is not solved then since it's new, bring it back to the Apple Store and have them look at it. Maybe you do have a hardware problem.

Elements 12 video player automatically pauses & video time line

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to use Premier elements 12 to do a few things & cannot find the answer to a few questions I have & was hoping someone could help me
1) When using the elements video player (one built in) if I start to play a video, it's automatically pauses after about 7 seconds. Is there a way to have it not auto pause?
2) When I bring in a video & look at the "Video1" bar, I notice the video only shows for about 30 seconds & then there is a blue space. How do I get the video clip to show thru out (in the Video1 bar) ?

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? Could use that information if we get into any computer specific Q&A details.
I think that we need to start with
a. What are the properties of what you are importing into your project, such as...
video compression
audio compression
frame size
frame rate
interlaced or progressive
file extension
pixel aspect ratio
We need that information as it relates to the next question. We could direct you to video audio properties readout program for the information but let us try to get the necessary information from knowledge of the brand/model/settings of the camera that recorded the video.
b. What is the project preset that you or the program is setting to match the properties of the source video?
(See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and tell us what you see for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Rate, Pixel Aspect Ratio - even if the
fields look grayed out).
c. When you are playing your Timeline content in the Edit area monitor is there an orange line over its content.
d. To the left of the name "Video 1" is a filmstrip icon. That represents the video display style. It has 4 different display types. You toggle to get the display type that you want - assumed the one where video thumbnails populate the whole Timeline clip's duration. That is the display type which is seen in the above screenshot. So, one click at a time on the filmstrip icon until you get the preferred video display style. The audio tracks also have display styles - only two different ones not four like the video display style. (For audio, see the speaker icon to the left of the name "Audio 1")

Flash Player 11.3.300.265 Crashes when paused video/stream loses focus to a different firefox window

Whenever I have a video or stream in fullscreen and paused and I try and use my other screen for firefox, it will crash.
I have the latest update of flash player (11.3.300.265) & firefox (13.01, also tried 14.0 beta)
EDIT: Forgot to mention that I have hardware acceleration disabled in both firefox and flash.

I had the same. Adobe blamed RealPlayer for the bug but that's not true. It's the protected mode. You have to turn it off via editing a file manually.

Pause Video Keyboard Shortcut While Using Word

I am curious if there is a way to pause a video playing on the internet while using word.
I am watching a prerecorded lecture on Safari and taking notes in Word. It is incredibly annoying having to switch back and forth to pause the video so I can copy down what the professor says.
It would be a huge help if I could simply hit "Command or Option Whatever" and simply pause the video without leaving Word. Perhaps modifying the F8 key (a pause button that tries to open iTunes when I hit it)?
I really appreciate any help the community can lend. Thank you in advance.

I think the problem here is focus. The default keystroke for iTunes to play/pause will not be captured by the application unless you have the focus on iTunes.
I have no idea how you are used to working, but if you are just taking some notes at first, can you not resize Word and place it next to the video playback window? Or perhaps if Word resizing is too difficult, use a smaller text editor to do the same, than cut and paste into your word document, post-note taking, to format, etc?
Other than that, I don't know how to make custom shortcuts/key-assignments to create a work-around. Sorry.

Premier Pro 5.5 - Sound will not resume after pausing video - HELP PLEASE !

I have a co-worker that is having a very strange problem. After he pauses a video and tries to restart it, video works fine but the sound will not resume. This doesn't happen all the time but it does happen often.
Please help.

I just finished running all the updates for adobe and it did not find any updates for Premier Pro, so the current version I have is 5.5. I'm going to check to see if there is any update I can download from Adobe that is not been detected by adobe updater so I can upgrade to Premier 5.5.1.

Bringing in paused video

Is there a way to introduce a video clip, such that it animates in paused on the first frame, and waits for a click to start playing?
I've been doing this with a workaround involving a captured still-frame, but hopefully there's an easier method.

My first click brings the video onto the slide with a "flip" animation. However, instead of the video playing right away, I just want it to be paused on the first frame, waiting for the next click which will start the video.
does that make sense?
